  1. I liked that the whole team was together in the episode. Is this the first time we've actually seen Monty? I may have just missed that in other episodes if he has shown up. Other than that, it was a pretty standard episode. I think I've watched this other and other crimes dramas so much, I'm getting good at picking the murderer earlier. I think that they went from a 0 to 60 on this one. They found each other attractive and interesting, but to run away, fly to New York and elope seemed like a stretch to me and kind of silly. I'd love Goodfellow to have a meteoric rise and take over from Mallory. He's so cartoonish, I just roll my eyes at him. I don't even get a sense that the actor is even having a blast playing him this way. I do think the show's been on so long now, it's getting weird. Why is Kembleford essentially the most exciting place and active in England? Makes me laugh. On tv, all murders all happen in very specific places.
  2. Agreed! I found the episode so pleasant and I knew it was because Inspector "Padre" Mallory wasn't in it. Then after coming here and realizing Mrs McCarthy wasn't in it either and I knew I didn't miss her as well. Her moralizing and judgmental attitude would have just gotten on my nerves, so happy she wasn't there. If they made Goodfellow the new inspector and he actually worked with Father Brown, although he'd have to spout the party line "Father please stay out of this investigation" while winking like I'll call you. I'd enjoy that very much. Mallory has become unbearable and unpleasant, and he is a terrible detective! How did he get promoted! The other 2 inspectors were more enjoyable with Father Brown even though he did get on their nerves. Maybe to keep the show fresher, we need someone like Goodfellow in charge. I won't be mad if the change it up a little bit if they keep the show going.
  3. Bell ringing definitely seems to be a deadly activity in the Midsomer world! Who would have thought it!
  4. I moved to Philly about 10 years ago. I'd never heard the word "jawn" ever and I thought it was so ridiculous when I did. To my astonishment, I use it pretty frequently now. It's actually a really versatile word! There are other Philly-specific things that I'm waiting to see if they make their way into the show eventually. The show has been such a delight so far and I've been really enjoying it.
  5. Making this my 2022 motto
  6. This news made me cry. She was so genuine and warm and charming and funny. All our Girls are gone and it this really hurts. I hope they are enjoying some cheesecake together now. I'll be toasting Betty (and all my girls) tonight. She will be missed. 2021 really couldn't keep it's stinking hands to itself, could it.
  7. Watched on Britbox I had been excited this since hearing Dwane would be part of it. Dwayne seemed almost cartoonish and over the top. Like he couldn't settle his energy or something. I’ll pretend that it’s because he hasn’t worked cases lately and he’s a little rusty, which he alluded to. I still don’t care for Marlon, but in his interactions with Dwayne, maybe they are trying to show that he’s growing and taking his job more seriously. Maybe. Neville and Florence???? Come on, it's the most unoriginal idea of all time and beyond stupid! Besides him being her superior officer, would that even be allowed? Everyone else has echoed my thoughts on this plot point already. Catherine needs to leave this alone! I find it astonishing that there are no other women (or men) for them to date other than the people they work with. It’s so annoying to me that I'm sure they will go ahead with it! Ugh, the woman who played the new wife could NOT hold her so-called “American” accent. I had no idea if that was what she was going for, but it was terrible and super distracting. The case was fine I guess, but I mostly figured out who the killer was pretty early on, the twist was an interesting though. The show may be losing steam, it's been on forever, so not too surprising.
  8. Are they moving over to BritBox or someplace else?
  9. All my thoughts, in no particular order: As usual whenever Kelli is in an episode, I love every minute she's on screen. Classic: "I'm gonna write a show about him, just so I can kill him off"...OMG I rewatched that scene multiple times because the acting between them was brilliant and with so few lines and same girl, same Next: 'They call me the undertaker at work, mostly because I take naps under the desk but whatever" Kelli please come to my next brunch!! Issa and Nathan need to stop trying to make fetch happen, it's not. I'm beyond over Issa and Lawrence. Please show don't end with them! Issa living her best life and her career taking off. I traveled extensively for work for several years until I said "enough", it's glamourous for exactly 2 seconds! The only thing I like is the status I still have from those days. But otherwise, nope. Travel is exhausting and not fun. Crenshaw can eff all the way off. Yeah, it's hard doing that work, you unappreciative jerk. Get down on your knees and apologize like you know you should. Yeah, maybe that was a sexy ass apology, but not enough 😂 She's so forgiving, but I can understand she's not messing with the coin. Kelli is great at her job and I saw a previous comment about her being endearing to her clients. It's true. Plus, can she help me do this with my freaking parents! They act like they don't know what the hell I'm talking about. So frustrating. Parents, as much as they appreciate their kids and what they accomplished, have a hard time with listening to them like that. Molly I feel you (on this one specific thing!) Really Tyra Banks. I laughed too hard. Taurean is a good dude. I like that Molly is actually able to be honest and plainly state where she was. Molly a couple seasons ago would have gone and put on her fake representative. Wine and wings sent to her was nice. Her therapy or whatever she's doing is working, definitely helps when you don't lie to your therapist. I really wanted to know what bottle he selected, it was a red, but which one?? I'm a burgeoning wine snob, that would be informative on his level of wine knowledge. I don't need any of our girls to end up with a partner because that doesn't mean you will be happier in life, than without one. Taurean seems like a good fit for Molly. Issa has no one that I want her to be with. Tiffany is married and her husband seems solid. Kelli can do whatever she wants. I still laugh when I think of how she pretended to be British with that absolute dummy last season.
  10. That's great! I love that. I'm a pretty organized person but I'm not sure I could keep up with that many services to cancel. Which is clearly what they are hoping for when we sign up for those "trials".
  11. I had BritBox for the longest time because I was determined not to have both Acron and BritBox, and BritBox at the time had better programs. I mean, I have to draw the line somewhere! Then, as someone mentioned, Acorn stepped it up. I signed up for a trial during Amazon Prime day which was $0.99 for 2 months. Of course, now I have BritBox and Acorn. So don't listen to me on which one to pick! I have done the sign up and cancel in the past, so that's definitely a solid approach.
  12. I certainly couldn't figure out what Joshua's accent was supposed to be and since it was never mentioned where he might be from, it just left me puzzled. Now that I think about it her accent was a little strange too, someone posted her voice seeming to change tone, wonder if it was her trying to maintain her accent?
  13. Lolol...you make a great point, . That episode was ridiculous.
  14. I like that! Especially if she's someone who only says half her thought before he jumps in with the other half and then she does the same with him. Like they fill in each other's thoughts because they are both brilliant thinkers. This happening, all while leaving the team baffled at what they are witnessing! Now in my imagining, she's also a DI, so maybe she's there for a big case? They've done it before so it's not a wild idea! Clearly not what they will do but I'm intrigued with this idea now! DIP writers, if you are poking around!
  15. I wholeheartedly agree with your entire post! I really enjoy when writers discover that certain characters play off each other so well that there's no way they can't put them together. That's what I'd prefer to see and I don't see that here at all. There's no chemistry whatsoever. They are clearly colleagues, she is polite and kind because they work together. I don't think she's a good enough actress to convince me that she had secret hidden feelings for him, lol! Nope. I'm on record (with my friends at least!) at HATING when tv shows insist on pairing up the male/ female leads. It's as you said, just LAZY! Florence is doing her job, trying to move on from a deep loss, and trying to navigate a new path for herself. It's nice that Catherine thinks they would be good together, but so what! He's her boss and it is creepy, I'm hoping they decide against going in that direction. Give him a non-work love interest, if they are determined to include romance.
  16. She's amazing! Her speech was lovely and heartfelt and genuine. I love that she got a standing ovation, it's quite something when your colleagues respect and admire you as they do with her. Well deserved. If I was in that category, I'd be running around tell everyone "I lost to JEAN SMART!" I'd wear it as badge of honor.
  17. lol, nope! He always wears, what seems like a wool suit, in the CARIBBEAN, while complaining about it being so hot all the time and insisting on drinking his hot tea! Always made me laugh!
  18. I'll also try the half milk/ half water as well! I found that fascinating. The info about Washington was just appalling to learn, like many other things in the special. For some reason, that one just made me so angry & sad. Such a great guy, ugh. Loved the whole special, well done and informative and touching and engaging.
  19. I hadn't liked Florence when she first joined the team because I had liked Camille. But then on a recent re-watch I ended up not liking Camille quite as much. She seemed so irritated and exasperated a lot of the times with both Richard and Humphrey, with her eye rolling and side eyes. There are times when I wonder what I like about the show when there are so many characters that get on my nerves 😀 I think it's a case of the sum of the parts is greater than the parts. Overall, it works. Dwayne's absence is REALLY evident with a rewatch. I really liked Fidel. JP was a good addition who I liked from the beginning. That blink and you missed DS that was on for a little while? I can't even remember her name and I never missed her when she was gone.
  20. Tell me about it! He's proven to be pretty irreplaceable, he managed to capture the light-hearted carefree attitude, with experience, and knowledge of the inner workings of the island. Ruby grew on me, but she was so irritating in the beginning. The less I say about MArlon the better. I guess I liked his fondness and eventual admiration for JP. Otherwise, no.
  21. Applause to every word you wrote. I don't want to belabour Coupling too much but when that first episode was the literal word for word copy of the original, that's when I knew it was going to be a terrible show. You're right the actors weren't "better" however there is an alchemy when you get the right people together. Lee, Dave and Rob are magical! Such a perfect word for it. YOu can't recreate that by throwing similar ingredients in. I'm just so apprehensive at what will be shown. I only just started seeing Taskmasters, thanks to YouTube putting episodes in for me. I didn't even realize they brought it over here. It's not good? Shocking. At least we will always have the original episodes to enjoy.
  22. In seasons 1 and 2, yes, I very much liked Rory. I liked her less and less each following season. Peak hate was season 4 and 5. I absolutely detested her in the revival or season 8, I guess. Now I I've worked myself up just thinking about her!
  23. Maybe it is the accent! You're so right that the shows just don't translate when they cross the pond. I'm sure many smart people have written why. Of course they have lots of terrible shows there too, so it's not just us that suffer through that. I suspect a good part of the issue is going from 6-8 episodes in a series to 22-26 (now sometimes 13) episodes in a season. American TV makes 3-4 years worth of a British show in one year! it's so much content to generate and it can't align with the original concept. My original horror was the American version of Coupling. I will still never forget trying to watch that abysmal attempt to reproduce the show. Stripped it of everything that made the show charming and funny and enjoyable. *shudders remembering it*
  24. I like the idea of reaching within the improv community, which has some very talented performers. I worry that because it's a network show they will go for some big names. Paul F Tompkins would be an interesting choice. Let's hope the network heads don't mess this up!
  25. I couldn't agree more. Not optimistic about this since you're right the casting of the host and team captains is critical. The more I watch the original version, the more apparent that becomes. Who is the US version of Lee Mack? David Mitchell? Rob Brydon? Not to mention they should really get a Bob Mortimer like guest on the show as well. I adore when he's on the show!
