Number of titles won by Red Sox in 21st Century: 4 Number of titles won by Yankees in 21st Century: 2 Maybe if the Yankees recruited Eli Manning to be their fifth starter . . .

First Adam Warren, now Joe Kelly. How many baseball players have names of comic book writers that I really like?

Doctor Who: Here's an episode featuring a character that's a lot like a certain person in the news. Beat that. Supergirl: (belching loudly) Hold my beer. This is gonna get ugly. I don't think there's going to be an ending to this story where everybody understands everybody else. This episode was . . . is mawkish the right word? Way too heavy-handed. Hellboy's heavy hand heavy-handed. Basically, some schmuck turns into a grassroots terrorist in the span of a few years . . . and on a few points, you can't blame him. I'm not being contrary for the mere sake of it. J'onn beats down an alien, crashing through a family home. He shouts "YOU'RE SAFE!" He flies off . . . .and the house is ablaze about a second later. Probably not J'onn's fault, but I would hope the concept of "collateral damage" is driven into their heads. Agent Liberty is an asshole, but he's a bad kind . .. the kind that had ridiculous bad breaks turn him evil. And yeah, isn't there a solution to Kara's crisis where "ship her to another universe" isn't the best option? I imagine the team debating it, looking at a clock that says "COUNTDOWN TO NEXT ARROWVERSE CROSSOVER," seeing that "Elseworlds" is a ways off, then start thinking up other methods. You mean Omega? You know, I see a resemblance. Now I'm imagining the Third Doctor repeatedly judo-flipping Agent Liberty in a mental landscape. And before I forget: I kinda miss Cat. I think this season's problem is too big for her, but she could knock it down to size and deliver choice snark in the process.

S13.E08: Charlie's Home Alone
Lantern7 replied to Ray Adverb's topic in It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
I know this is “Sunny,” but I have to ask: how could Charlie still have a leg after losing all that blood and being in the trap for at least 24 hours? If it turns out Charlie dreamt the whole episode, I could buy that without too much complaint. -
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations (Toonami Pace)
Lantern7 replied to Lantern7's topic in Naruto: Shippuden [V]
I’m thinking “soon.” I think his known jutsu is shadow clones, but he might have a weird version of his mother’s Byakugan (didn’t spell it right the first time), where he can sense personal darkness instead of chakra. Konohamaru looks good, doesn’t he? You can picture him being a “big brother” to Boruto. In other news, my iPad’s autocorrect turned “Boruto” into “abortion.” Just thought you guys should know. ?♂️?♂️ -
I thought Charla came off as likable. If you consider her to be a pill, Mirna would be the entire bottle. I get putting Charla in parallel with the likes of Rupert Boneham, but I feel she's genuine, and I was happy with her (and Mirna) completing TAR11. Now I'm wondering what would've happened if Charla & Mirna had to handle the ox. They probably would have gone with the ducks. Remember, that was a Detour; everyone opted for the ox.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - General Discussion
Lantern7 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
This week: Josuke and Okuyashu can't even get a meal at a fancy Italian restaurant without encountering a Stand user. This time, it's chef Tonio Trussardi Trendy. Basically, Okuyashu eats and fluctuates between agonizing pain and remarkable wellness, with overreactions to food on par with stuff I've seen in clips of Shokugeki no Soma (known in the U.S. as Food Wars!), where foodgasms seem to be a recurring trope. Seriously, one clip had people eating meat so perfectly prepared and delicious, they went into a mental wonderland where their clothes exploded off their bodies. Anime, right? It turns out Tonio is basically neutral . . . he just wants to make his customers happy, even as Josuke sees the nightmare fuel of a dog more or less explode from eating Tonio's food. Don't worry, he was okay . . . though with this series' thing against dogs, we might want to start a dead pool on when Koichi's old pooch bites it, as opposed to merely "if." Oh, and Oldjo is coming to Morioh! OH MY GOD SON OF A BITCH!!!!! As for the Stand . . . it looks like several vegetables with faces that float around. It's name? -
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations (Toonami Pace)
Lantern7 replied to Lantern7's topic in Naruto: Shippuden [V]
"Boruto. You know why we never had Shino get much screen time? Because nobody likes him, yet nobody hates him!" Hey, Iruka is the principal of Leaf Village Academy! Good for him. And Kuranai is still around. All that's left from that team to see are Kiba & Akamaru. I suspect the latter is still alive, since he's a ninja dog and all. -
@TigerLily20 . . . when I first saw it, Goku's body vanished. But that was the Ocean dub, so they may have thrown that in.

Today marks 32 years since the Mets won their last World Series. You think the Dodgers would pay to fly Sid Fernandez in for Game 4, so he could shut down the Red Sox again for old time's sake? An agent as a GM . . . . that's not a good move, right? #OnlyTheMets ETA: Here's Bill Simmons on Game 6. I think I tried searching for this last year with no luck, so I'm happy it's online now.

Puig, Machado, the Coward Chase Utley . . . the Red Sox are basically the good guys by default, right?

My Hero Academia - General Discussion
Lantern7 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in My Hero Academia
Got any media mentions of My Hero Academia you want to share? Bring 'em here! Examples: MHA set for Hollywood movie adaptation (yeah, like that's gonna work out) Comic book writer Scott Snyder's family goes Plus Ultra for Halloween And here's a "So This Is Basically" video. I don't think there are major spoilers. I'm ashamed that I never thought of calling Midoriya "Small Might." -
@Jextella: S38 is already "in the can," so I'm guessing they're poking around to cast S39.

Reminder: Mob Psycho 100 debuts tonight at 11:30; FLCL: Alternative moves to 2 a.m. And I think One-Punch Man moves from there to 2:30. ETA: Not bad. Mob kinda looks related to Saitama, though it might just be the vacant face. Nice concept with him being the apprentice of a total fraud . . . a relationship that gets flipped in One-Punch Man, with Saitama not feeling like being a mentor to Genos.

I went to a parade once to try and get material for an article. Heard 'em chant "1986! 1986!" So, you know, fuck Yankees fans in general. Anyone else think last night was more or less Mark McGwire hitting a walk-off in Game 3 thirty years ago, and the BoSox will have thinks wrapped up by Sunday night?
-
EIGHTEEN INNINGS. Holy shit. My night: got home. Napped for about five hours. Got up before 1 a.m., and the game was still on. I had dinner and dessert, went to bed, and the game was still going on. Do you blame how networks handle postseason games? Remember, I was stunned last year, when Game 1 wrapped up in under three hours. I’m guessing the game wrapped up after midnight in Los Angeles . . . and that shit is never supposed to happen.
-
Dang. I napped for at least five hours after I got home, and the game is still going on?!?

I’m liking the Beach Blanket Black Bulls arc. Minimum, we see that the hulking dude can shape-shift. Saddest part so far — aside from flashbacks of Noelle’s siblings saying she should have died — is the low talker missing the proverbial bus, staying back and drawing his teammates’ faces on rocks to keep him company.
-
Clemens started Game 6, and left due to a blister. Dennis “Oil Can” Boyd was slated to start Game 7, but it was postponed. The Sox wound up bringing in Bruce Hurst — who was already 2-0 — to face the Mets on three days rest. I should see if I can find Bill Simmons’ account of Game 6. He was a Sox fan, so you know that wasn’t a fun night.
-
GM Frank Cashen looked like a genius. It’s like he gave up Schiraldi for Ojeda, then gave the kid subliminal suggestions in the off chance the Mets and the Sox met in the Series.
-
You’re right. Could’ve sworn “Shady Shane” (?) did Dirty 30.

Season Three and Beyond: FFwSB
Lantern7 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Full Frontal With Samantha Bee
Depressing and funny as always. Nothing says "journalism" like some third-string fuckwad from Fox News trying to find unfortunate souls, and then we see a bunch on a raft, along with what sounds like a kid crying. Also . . . so if one guy can't make a raft, no one can make a raft without help from the deep pockets of a major political party? I imagine there's a lot of turnover at the FF staff, from all the people forced to watch Fox News and rage-quitting over their bias. Two gubernatorial rivals actually get along with each other? Maybe the U.S. should give Vermont to Canada. -
Reality Blurred has thirty names listed. It looks like it might go to 32. I'm really hoping we don't have pairs yet again, because some folks are lead weights when they're partnered up. Who is Bear??

Sounds like some people needed an excuse. Some poor, pathetic, attention-starved people. "No such thing as bullying." Fuck you, Joe Mena. Fuck right the hell off. The stupid thing is that Lyrsa will probably be forgotten in less than a year. I say that because of the nature of the series and my own failing memory. "Lyrsa? That was a Lyrsa? I should remember a Lyrsa." "Purple hair." "Oh, right! Purple heart, sorta cares!!!"
