I keep forgetting to post about a new 30 For 30 featuring Joey Chestnut. It premieres tonight at 8 p.m. on ESPN. ETA: Oh, and there's going to be a documentary on Bethany Hamilton playing in films starting on July 12.

The Mystery Team goes to great lengths to get a girl's wish granted . . . which turned out to be her daddy breaking out of prison. He joins his wife in going back to cooking meth, and their blow themselves up. And the girl is adopted by deer, because their child was run over by Marcus (is that how it's spelled?) trying to enter the magical land to get her original wish granted. Also, Pigeon continues to be an asshole pigeon. Speaking of our favorite asshole bird with the troubled bird asshole . . . I saw this trailer for Will Smith's CGI movie, and I immediately thought of MTM. Not too weird of me, right?

"Bertholdt? Berhooooldt. . ." "Uh. Whuzz wuz . . .what?" "Open your eyes. You're gonna want to see this. The bad news is that you're gonna die. The good news is that you're going to be replaced in the food chain." "I . . . I don' unders- . . . FUCK!!!! ARMIN!!!!!" "Chow down, big guy!! Growing Titans need their strength!!!" "FUCCCCCCKKK!!! WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS?!?!??!? I mean, besides set humanity back to darker ages while keeping a watchful eye on them to make sure they would never overcome the Tit- . . . NOT THE LEGS, ARMIN!!! GO FOR MY HEA-!!!!" Damn, that was a ludicrously tense episode. Nice that our neurotic brainiac got to live, but they lost Erwin, whom Levi wanted to bring back. And you just know Armin and Mikasa will probably hold a grudge. I checked Wikipedia . . . four more episodes to go. Then the final season airs in Japan in Fall 2020. For those keeping track: how many of the plots are currently in the air? ETA: The clip in the link is short (15 seconds), but there might be a spoiler image. Proceed carefully.

Lots of names, but two unknowns wound up running for the bye. I don't think either of them have an "official" nickname. I don't think "Part Ninja" or "King of the Walk-Ons" will stick. Most of the bigger guns either fell or failed to scale the Warped Wall. A couple of 2018-era phenoms got humbled, and it looks like Jon Alexis Jr.'s season is over. Great, now Akbar can't shout "FEE FIE FOE STEP!!!" or "BRITTEN'S GOT TALENT!!!!' this season. I gotta find the clip of the penguin snapping at Akbar. I know, he's the goofier of the commentators, but it seldom comes off as outright mugging. And he handled that snake longer that Matt.

The Promised Neverland - General Discussion
Lantern7 replied to Sandman87's topic in The Promised Neverland
You'd think Isabella would have cameras around the area. I mean, maybe one wouldn't automatically think kids engaging in ziplining without immediately "breakout," but the shit they were doing was hardcore. Or maybe she did know. Who knows? It is hard for me to sympathize with her, even with the glimpses of her past and the revelation she gave birth to Ray. She raised kids like frigging veal. Maybe not penned in, but it's still hard to overlook. The kids are out. No one fell into the abyss, which was a bit surprising. If/when there's a second season, I bet we'd go three episodes before one of them bites it. At least they got the running down. They don't even have to stick their arms out like the kids from Naruto. One slot has been cut out, and two will be filled by Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin and Food Wars. Also, My Hero Academia gets shoved to 3:30.I'll need to bring that up on the appropriate thread. -
Tonight: Najee Richardson, Joe Moravsky, Alyssia Beird, Jon Alexis Jr., Jamie Rahn, and lots of other ninjas! Wow "Mama's Boy Ninja" a capella send-off for the win. Is there a map of the setup in Baltimore. I've been to the Inner Harbor a few times, and I'd curious how it looks beyond the cameras on the course.

I think it's more Black Clover or My Hero Academia, only without magic or Quirks. I hear it's a good anime There's supposed to be a stanalone special where Sanji from One Piece drops by.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations - General Discussion
Lantern7 replied to Sandman87's topic in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations
I caught that episode and the following, and I still don't feel that vibe. The kid is brash, but I don't see him as a Gary Sue. And his attitude towards his father is understandable. Consider: if Naruto's ultimate goal as a child was to become Hokage, and he wound up on a path where that title would be his . . . why did he have Boruto with Hinata? Or Hiumawari? Being Hokage more or less means being the father to all its people. The test wraps up, with the cadets managing to fight Kakashi to a standstill. Okay, he probably would have broken their arms and legs within five seconds if that had been an actual battle, but it was still impressive. I can understand everyone pointing out the times Boruto helped them can grate, but I don't really consider it that bad since he wasn't within Gary Stu parameters. Please bare in mind that stuff in my brain might make sense there and only there. Your mileage may vary. Oh, and the kids defeated Shino, Anko and Konahamaru. And we got the see some of the tactics of the background kids. I'm guessing Denki's deal is sealing jutsu? Anko fights with snakes . . . appropriate, given what Orochimaru did to her. I don't think he was responsible for the weight gain, though. BTW, anyone else tickled that graduating from the Academy doesn't mean one would have to become a ninja? Like it would look good on a college resume or something. -
I forgot that Doctor Who covered that environment last year with "Kerblam!" Does anyone else think that the monitoring devices could be used for the workers' good? Maybe send alerts for walking too many steps, monitor potential exhaustion, etc. And Amazon is so fucking big, Jeff Bezos would probably only have to send one less dick-shaped rocket into space. And that's a "maybe." I don't use Amazon Prime. Most of the stuff I order isn't urgently needed. If I want friggin' Oreos, Amazon would be at the bottom of the list for me.

"Famewhore" might be pushing it in a few places. I'm guessing Chris & Bret were further down the list of Survivor folks to cast on TAR than they'd admit, but they held their own and managed to entertain. And ANW is a legit good show . . . though "reality-ish" is a good description. Anyone think Ozzy would be a natural for ANW?

Mets with five runs in the eighth. Edwin Diaz is in the bullpen, all, “Okay, how will I piss everyone off today?” If the Mets were to deal him, he’d go back to being a quality reliever. Brodie probably saw the 51 saves, and he gambled that whatever curse clinging to the team couldn’t neutralize that completely. ETA: One-two-three ninth for the win. Miracle!!
-
Just checking , . . three Yankees? If that’s the case, I don’t blame you. The same number as the Mets would be worth getting pissed off about.
-
Not really . . . but I can see how that connection could be made. ”Ronnie, is that your rape wig?” “Is one of them.”
-
I thought the Mets game was at 7. If I had known, I would have recorded their ceremony for the 1969 team. I feel bad for the fans who stuck around . . . 70 minute rain delay and the bullpen shit the bed again. One of the old-timers could’ve been the one to shoot Mickey in the head after the game. I mean, I’m well aware things could and have been worse, but it should take more than firing the pitching coach and replacing him with the guy who taught Cy Young all he knew.
-
My move would’ve been Lupin the 3rd Part 5, on account it feels more “adult.” 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ Speaking of which, would anyone be interested in s Lupin-based thread? I just wouldn’t want it to be just me in there.

Apparently, guillotines are a universal thing. Good to know. Anybody else have Jeff Probst blaring in their heads? "Last person holding their chain wins reward. Wanna know what you're playing for? Your very lives! I mean, it should be obvious, right?" Cut to Enoch on the side: "Yes, it was obvious to me." AoS still leaning into the crazy. Part of it might be to steer casuals away from trying to fit it into MCU continuity. Either way, it's still fun. "He's breathing fire!!!!" "Say again?" "FIRE!!!! HE'S SPITTING HOT FIRE!!!!" "So he's rapping now?" And that's exceeded by the stupidity of putting two Shrike hosts in a cell, then keeping the door open while they go through crystalline metamorphosis. Bonus: Rando agent with the gun just standing there as he gets skewered. Maybe Sarge watched the series on his way to Earth. He would know that the people he'd be dealing with would be that easy to screw with. Deke is still a thing, I guess. If I'm Mack, I'm shoving his into a locker, then getting agents to pound on it with batons for several hours. He is so useless.

When is the re-release? They're making it hard for me not to go, but re-releasing a film so close after the initial launch, and throwing in added material that could make things better is a bit evil. After the credits: "Okay, so Steve basically cloned himself with the Reality Stone, dialed back the clone's memories to the 1940s (perhaps with the Mind Stone), and that's the guy that was with Peggy the whole time. He didn't know about any of the bad shit that would happen from nineteen-forty-whatever. And Original Steve is still out there, fighting to put right what once went whatever." As much as an explanation to soothe butthurt would be nice, putting it in an "updated" version kinda sucks. For the record, I didn't see the PG-13 version of Deadpool 2. Liked it the first time, didn't want to spend $20 on a ticket and snacks to see Ryan Reynolds and Fred Savage goof on the framing stuff from The Princess Bride.

Good ending. Ging is still a jerk for leaving Gon behind. But I guess reunions are always sweet . . . especially when they take place in a nest of giant baby birds. Like I said (or close to it): they was SO baller. Once again: I'd be down for a continuation if enough of the manga is made to warrant it.

"It's so haaaaaard . .. to say goodbye . . . to yessssterdaaaaaaaayyy . . . " There are not enough 40 oz. bottles to pour out in Armin's honor. He was the equivalent of Morty Smith in terms of neuroses, but he was the sharpest tool in the Scout shed, and he went out like a man. And Hange lives! Man, she is gonna have so much fun poking Reiner and Bertolt's bodies. A food funnel lodged in a rectum will seem like paradise for those two.

The Promised Neverland - General Discussion
Lantern7 replied to Sandman87's topic in The Promised Neverland
We got a nice swerve . . . all of the kids were in the loop, Emma prevents Ray from killing himself via housefire, and they manage to trick Isabella at the low cost of their ears. And Isabella looks shook, but she's loving that her best pupils are still alive. Oh, and one kid is tugging on her clothes. Looks like her bosses will be having a snack when they arrive. -
Toonami has heard the fans. "We want anime about cooking where tasters are so delighted, they practically orgasm!!!!! Oh, and My Hero Academia moved to the end of the block at 3:30 a.m." I reckon Toonami has hearing problems.

Music? Spoken word? Both? In other news, Sean Pertwee hints that Doctor Who may have approached him. Would he pop up as a original character? Or would he follow his father Jon in playing the Third Doctor? If you've never seen him (particularly as Alfred Pennyworth in Gotham), there's more than a passing resemblance.

At work. Go to ESPN.com. Phillies have a 1-0 lead on the Mets in the ninth. They get three runs to take the lead. Moron that I am, I leave the window open . . . and the Phillies just walked off with a 6-3 win. I bet Mickey is a nice guy, and I bet he's smarter than most people think, but he has to walk the plank . . . especially if the Mets fuck up on the weekend celebrating the 1969 team

Are the English even interested in baseball these days? Also: how badly did London want the Yankees and Red Sox? i think the NFL usually sends in scrub teams for their regular season visits.
