  1. Here is the thing- aside from Cookie (who is a revelation), Rhonda is kind of my favorite. If her lacking a soul is what makes her so fantastic, I'm down. From what we know of her- she seems to genuinely love her husband, she takes care of his needs, they seem to have a very active sex life (an open marriage is not for everyone- but if it works for them, rock the hell on you kinksters), she appears to have a handle on her own career (which I don't think is associated with Empire at all), and is super practical. She is trying to help her husband succeed in inheriting what they both believe is rightfully his (because he is the eldest son, they one with the head for money, etc). The competition Lucious set up between his own children is ridiculous, but hell if I can't down with a woman who has her hubby's back- by whatever means necessary. What is so different between her and Cookie really? Cookie was dealing to get her man what he needed- and she also just had a man murdered. Rhonda has taken some video, signed off on an idea to send some truly moronic hangers-on over to another studio, and encouraged competition between 2 boys who were already being encouraged (by their parents) to compete.
  2. Why was the cancer patient not hooked up to some sort of machinery? He just crawled out of bed to spew blood everywhere and there was no coding at all?!?! He was experiencing essentially a medical miracle a few hours earlier and no one at the research hospital was testing anything?!?! Come on people. Kai is awesome- the other witch stuff, not so much. I want Bonnie back.
  3. "For realsies" killed me- as did "up your butt" and the ensuing explanation of the joke. Jazz hands will never not be funny. I appreciate Madelana embracing the full on evil. "I really like stuff." The tango was perfect. The King is awesome, as are the other main characters, but the supporting players really nail it. I'll echo my love for Gareth. The Chef may actually be my favorite though. I am going to be so sad when this sow ends. I did miss the Jester singing us into the show.
  4. Preach @Clockwork! This is one of the few silly sitcoms that my husband and I both chuckle at at least once or twice and this episode was no different. Tedward is just amusing, Judy went a completely different way than I ever pictured, as did Judge Hernandez. Plus Dick Casablancas people!! My VMars love gives a lot of shows a lot of leeway.
  5. As silly as this show is, I do find that I enjoy it. However, I really really hope that Laura is genuinely ok with Jake moving on. It is fine to show the minefield that is navigating post divorce- parenting, but she has a hot, talented and fun boyfriend (that I really like).
  6. One thing I am super impressed with this season is how much more likable Witney is! I'm also a SYTYCD fan, and I hated her on her season of that show- that girl could find a camera no matter where she was. Her partnership with Alphonso was joyful and she is tuning into a fantastic choreographer. While I too miss DanceCenter- I wish we got a longer look at the dress rehearsals. Those are hilarious and I think Tom Bergeron is even better there than on live tv (which is saying something, because that man is a national treasure.) A few other random comments- Does anyone else get shades of Jordan Knight from the Jonas Brother? I admit I am a pretty big Twitch fan-girl. but even here with everything going on, he is just a magnetic performer. Jonathan looked like he had a blast doing that performance. The Fresh Prince things was awesome. I wish Randy Coutor had gone further. Finally, I loved how relaxed everyone looked- it seemed like they all enjoyed themselves.
  7. I liked Mark's choreo for that dance. That feels weird to type. I would actually like to see someone like Lacey do it along with him. I will say that Mark always does really well with these types of "stars." He has the perfect process for those younger, naturally rhythmic gals. I just wish her family wasn't her family. For the most part she is everything I expect a teenage girl to be. Which brings me to Bethany- one of the 3 "stars" that I had no clue who they were this season (the other 2 were Michael because I abhor NASCAR & Sadie for similar reasons). She is also about what I expect of a teenage girl- just on the other side of the spectrum from Sadie. Not as outgoing, so not as fun to watch on tv (from my point of view.) I'm not going to weight in on the "bullying" thing- that is a different debate. I just don't enjoy watching her dance, for whatever reason I don't connect. Having said that, because of this weeks theme I was prepared to be annoyed by a lot of the dances- but the whole thing with her parting the mean words away like some sort of internet lady Moses was a bit much (even by this shows standards). Alfonso's dance was pitch perfect. That dance illustrated how this theme can work. Witney is doing a wonderful job this season, I am glad she is mellowing out and learning and growing as a tv dancer. For me, this is where the nostalgia factor lies. I still sing the theme song at the drop of a hat, I hear Tom Jones- I think the Carlton dance. Loved it. I want this from the show. Sad to see Betsy go.
  8. I like it- not love it. It is by no means appointment tv but good for background noise. While Dash is annoying- his delivery of "only the baddest lady-chef ever.Whatever, I'm kind of a foodie," was hysterical.
  9. I liked it. I didn't mind the easter eggs- I'm a casual batman fan. I know enough of characters, but not any of the real detailed canon. I thought it was a well done pilot - the only major glaringly bad spot for me was when Montoya just took Copplepot's word at face value & went to Jim's fiance with the info. First, obviously you are jealous of that relationship. Second, that is just bad police work...if you genuinely think that you go to IA and God forbid you get any actual proof. So I am in for the now- the Monday night block excites me.
  10. Oh, I agree with the sentiment 100%. I think it really has more to do with fanbase and people they know that can deal with TV, which really is a different beast than competition. For this show- which has been on the decline for the past several years, pros that come in with a fanbase must seem like the good idea (from a produces standpoint). People that can deal with tv, even better. Keo is an excellent example- unknown, great dancer, but not the best at managing live response (based on the comments about his response about training Lolo). Is that enough to bench him? We will see. I mean Tristan is a great example of a no-name that was pretty universally loved by the fandom- but look at how they treated him. Again, as a regular viewer of the show- I would love to see more ballroom peeps get tapped. However, I do understand why the producers might make these types of calls. I would probably be more upset if they pulled all 3 from SYTYCD and all 3 were non-ballroom but it was a pretty decent mix, so I'll wait for the rest of the season to see how Allison plays out.
  11. Really, I just want to know if this means there is a higher chance of seeing Twitch show up on DWTS- as a guest dancer or whatever. I also think the producers went with someone that has a built-in fan base- and Allison's is fairly large. It is entirely possible that some of the ballroom specialists we might know from SYTYCD might actually be competing or are contractually obligated elsewhere. Don't Anya and Lacy both work on the DWTS's Vegas show? This also might not be the type of show a lot of dancers don't want to work on. Dancing and teaching are one thing, being on a tv competition is something else entirely. So, my jury is out on Allison- I'll wait and see how the season progresses. I don't know enough about ballroom to make really technical critiques of the pros and for the most part I enjoy her dancing. I will say I'd like to see Ryan DiLello as one of the pros though. Love him to pieces.
  12. This! Oh my lord, this has been the number one thing on my mind for this entire series, probably because I am more of a sci-fi gal. I get that Claire is out of her depth, but she did actually seem to take the fact that she had time traveled fairly well. Changing the past should be like the number 2 thing on her mind (I'll let her have getting home as #1), especially because she has dealings with someone that is connected to her future. I'll admit I would also like to be drunk as possible if this were happening to me, but seriously she needs to get a handle on her emotions. There is so much to discuss with regard to paradox and things like the butterfly effect, or if fate is cast in stone or malleable but I really wish she would address that in show. Having said all that- I really enjoyed this episode. The gore doesn't bother me all that much so I really got into that whole thing. Thus far that has been the best narrative of a character this show has shown us. The actor is absolutely brilliant in the juxtaposition of the two roles (but clearly having the most fun with BJR). I'll echo my appreciation of Dougal here and while I do find Jaime very attractive there is still that sense of "boy" about him to me. So it is a bit harder to jump on that ship emotionally at this point- however on the shallow end of the pool, those are two very pretty people and I look forward to the wedding night. Claire should at least have fun helping him along to "man."
  13. http://tvline.com/gallery/fall-tv-cast-changes-returning-shows-new-actors-leaving/#!107/colin_ferguson/ So, this is interesting because I will pretty much watch anything with Colin (and I was only slightly invested in VD this past season) but it is also pretty much a guarantee that Colin will die at some point in the season. I am conflicted about how he will tie into the rest of the season.
  14. Well- at the very least I am happy to know others love Ryan as much as I do. Obviously, the judges never verbally articulate how awesome he is- but I always felt during his season the audience never really gave him his due either so it is nice to hear it now. I guess since the show uses him as an All-Star, they must like him but I would kill to see him on DWTS. Anya too. That's another show that could benefit from a shake-up in the cast (ex- see Tristan's popularity)
  15. I just don't like Kelli. When she said she was ready to crush some dreams- I believed her and who still uses the term lover? However, I did agree with her about Adam. Serious douche right there. Ugh, so many douches- I'll see how long I can keep with it this season. I didn't make it last year. Actually, if they decide to use Romeo and his "witchery" and blend ANTM with like Ghost Adventures I might enjoy this.
  16. My God- Anya is ridiculous (glad she went back to darker hair). I'm sure Ricky did well- but I could not take my eyes off her. Ok- that's not true. He did well enough- especially not looking like a little kid next to her. The big issue I had was he was just a bit to happy-smiley. Not smoulder-smiling they way someone like Dimitri would. I think I am just really disappointed in this season...there is no excitement for me. I'm so bored and I don't want to be. Can you imagine how cool that wedding hip hop would have been with someone like Comfort?
  17. I was so happy to see Ryan that I almost paid no attention to Tanisha- despite the fact that I actually really enjoy her dancing. Ryan is still one of the best partners any female dance could have on this show and he definitely brings a sense of maturity to this season. Frankly, that is why I was looking forward to the All-Stars- this season has been very lacking in several things that I think the All-Stars they bring in force the dancers to step up. I did love the opening to that dance- her in the shadows and some really pretty forms and then he just sort of appeared. But really, I was just happy to see Ryan. Jasmine rocked that dance.
  18. Finally finished this episode. It took me 3 tries to get through it- which was a combo of my schedule and me just being bored. Which I don't want to feel when I am watching this show. I pretty much tune the judges out anytime they speak- it just makes this an easier show to take. It is an incredibly strange feeling to love the show Nigel has created (and truly loves I think) and really just hate pretty much every other world that comes out of his mouth. His comment to Malena was ridiculous- even for him. If they wanted WCS on the show- I don't think the first real episode is the show to have it on. Sadly the song really set the tone for the dance...it was a mess. Which again makes me sad because I freaking love Benji. Having said that- no Nigel, Benji wasn't mean, he did his job- the dancers were not up to it at this point in time. The tango, afro-jazz, and interrogation dance were the ones that stood out for me tonight. Like a few others, you really have to screw up a tango for me to not like it. The afro-jazz was a bright splash on a very "beige" night. The interrogation was the first one that was actually fun for me. I am so over contemporary. I hope Mark shows up- his second dance last season may not have been well received but at least it is interesting and his first one was so freaking good!
  19. I enjoyed the episode on a basic level- Malena/Marquette were my favorite ballroom. The samba rolls were beautiful and I just love him. He has a striking presence. She is sexy as hell. May grow into an Anya 2.0. I love the heavy ballroom emphasis if it means we see more of it during the season. I think Nightshift worked for me mainly because it was so different from a majority of the other performances of this episode. Plus, it was fun and possibly an intro to a low-rent porno...in my book that is a win. I also liked them joking around with Cat. Ricky/Jessica- it was good, it was pretty. I always liked him. She still annoys me but she can dance. It was not life altering Nigel- get it together. Sonya's best piece is still The Garden (w/ Mark & Courtney) which was also her first one but it is nice to know she can still come up with something fresh. I feel bad for the ballerinas- they got a raw deal. The contemporary blended but Stanley was a standout for me. As for the renewal- Nigel did not announce this season until they were several episodes in last year so there is still hope.
  20. This was how I felt about her, as a contestant she never clicked for me, despite the fact that I recognized she was an extraordinarily talented dancer. I actually think that as an All- Star, that may work to the contestants advantage this season. I love Twitch, but unless someone is really stellar- he is who I watch. I think Jenna will make an excellent partner because she did come across as a bit of a non-entity (albeit a very, very talented one). Some people just don't translate well on tv but I will say I loved her dance with Mark- one of the most memorable for me from last season for sure. If we had gotten that particular dance earlier- I might not have been as hard on her.
  21. So aside from remembering some really great routines, this thread has mostly made me realize how much I miss the original stage (because the newer one is still terrible and I will never get used to it). Here is Sexy Back (I truly loved all 4 of these contestants but Donyelle was fierce in this!). Anyway, it has that club feel/atmosphere that really added to the dance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cLYiApwEZA and here is Comanche- another Wade Robson I love but on the "new stage." It just makes it feel more removed- and it is so freaking giant and cavernous it makes the cameramen do strange things. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MefBJeSdLl8 And here is Calle Ocho, just because it was awesome: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9z_sCBGdN2k
  22. Oh man- I loved Jesse (and Evan before him) with an almost unreasonable amount of affection. Those short, broadway boys just get me! I have to say the tap number that was Jesse, Nick, & Matt Flint (the UK winner that year) is high up there for me... I am also not-so-secretly in love Ryan Di Liello (I don't think he got nearly enough credit during his time on the show- he was hands down one of the best partners anyone could ask for) and this Quickstep is one of my favorite from this show ever (I really enjoyed Eliana too...) The last big trick is jaw-dropping. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n75k2HDKhVY
  23. Since I am giving her the side eye for now- I'll share. I didn't have a problem with her dance. I don't have a problem with younger girls exploring sexuality or being "sexy." I absolutely hate it when anyone (regardless of age) comes in announcing that "Oh- I'm just so sexy and I don't even mean to be.../puke" This has nothing to do with her age at all. If you are 40 and do something like that (saw a ton of it as a bartender) you are going to annoy me (and probably wait a while for a drink). That is what colored my view of the dance. I was annoyed with her before she started so it was harder for me to objectively watch her dance. If I would have just launched into the dance without her pre-package I don't think I would have been as annoyed with her. I generally love the young ballroom girls and they usually audition with the spicier dances (and far less clothing). She also kind of sort of reminded me of Witney in personality (not great for her)...like I said, she gets side-eye right now. I want to see more of what she can do.
  24. At this point though- don't the dancers know that being "used" is a possibility (hell, isn't it an asset to have a story)? It would be even more disingenuous to not acknowledge the girl with Alopecia- there is clearly something different about her. Now- if either make it to the top 20 and that becomes the overall theme of their journey (at the expense of their dancing talent), I can see how that would be alienating. As for the eating disorder- I actually thought they did that with some taste as it is something of an issue, of course MMV. I will say that becoming "known" on this show in general is an asset...of all the competition shows I watch this is the only one where I constantly see many of the contestants woking regularly. Aside from the cash prize- winning this thing doesn't really matter if as a dancer you boost your profile and get a job out of it. Anyway- "Miley" was the worst, sexy girl is definitely getting side-eye from me and I loved that Joffrey girl had such a crush on Fabrice (which I totally understand), and Mary-Poppins was fun (Plus, she used Sade for her song- win!). I agree that when Fik joined her, that took her to the next level and probably gave the closest approximate to what she can do on a live show. Overall, I really enjoying this audition but just once I would like to see the jidges say "That was a beautiful contemporary piece but I'd like to see if you krump..."
