  1. They had to work pretty hard to keep Molly. Her dessert was not elegant at all. It might have tasted great, but it wouldn't elevate a table. I was not impressed with Clement's wonderful advantage for winning the pre-heat. Unless there was a choice like lime and coffee or something equally as egregious, it didn't seem like a trade between 4 similar cocktails was that big of a deal.
  2. I hope they can pull off this movie. The book spent a lot of time outside the actual Hunger Games. The games are really just a jumping off point. I was pleasantly surprised with how well Suzanne Collines dealt with Snow. She really did a great job with how his ambition gradually took over his life. I was afraid she was going to try and 'redeem' him, but she didn't take the easy route. It'll be hard to get the subtilties in a 2 hour movie. Fingers crossed!
  3. I kept waiting for a line about that when Sheldon was first staring at the screen! Disappointing. No mention of how the numbers smell, taste, or look to Sheldon? I loved that revelation during TBBT episode where he found the object. Meanings within numbers jump out at Sheldon. I wonder if Dr Sturgis has anything like the same sensory reaction to numbers?
  4. My eyes just about rolled out of my head at that one. Wow, do you think someone told Nancy that Clement tried and failed to have his flag on a pole??? /s I thought Clement had a very unlucky night to have a bad bake, so I'm glad they saved him, even though, from the critiques, it sounded like he should have been booted. I liked Christian just fine at the beginning of the show, but now he really is coming across as smug to me. I hope he doesn't win (since I'm vindictive like that πŸ˜†).
  5. I really love "Margaret" and read it as a kid, but I don't remember any talk about breasts or periods between me and my friends. On the other hand, I was a gymnast and everyone was probably underweight. I was wearing a training bra pretty much through the end of high school and didn't start my period until I was almost 16 (after I quit gymnastics). I'm so glad adhesive pads were available before I started, but they were about 2 inches thick!

    Galaxy Quest (1999)

My favorite scene (among many) is when Jason and Gwen are trying to get through the chompers. Gwen's growing hysteria about the chompers and why are they even there, and yelling "this episode was badly written!"
  7. No mention of whether Jensen is expected to return. From his interview, he only had a few days of filming left for his part. I'm definitely mixed on this. Even if they dedicate the film to the woman who died, that's obviously not going to negate the tragedy. On the other hand, a lot of people are involved in a film production that had absolutely nothing to do with the live ammunition. I still can't get over that the next scene to be filmed after the shooting was to be a shoot out between Alec and Jensen's characters.
  8. I'm sad, but I agree that April was the one to go home. Her muffins were kind of pathetic looking and her pie decorations looked like autumn leaves to me. The chocolate work was really a mixed bag. Josh and Clement's were outstanding. The gazebo was an interesting idea but didn't look appealing at all. Christian's didn't need any skill. All he did was swirl chocolate around. Not anywhere near the level of Josh or Clement. I was shaking my head at Molly's bird nests. Way too simple. And there was a day when she would have been dinged for using pre-made chocolate eggs.
  9. I had no idea he was so close by when it happened. For some reason, I didn't think he was on set that day.
  10. Christian's Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol "decorations" were bad. The result just looked like a child ran amok with finger paint and play doh. Plus, Andy Warhol was more of a '60's figure, not the '50's. An all over fail for me. His pool cake looked cool, but did any of the judges actually eat the jello?
  11. I was wondering why there was a cyclops alien on Molly's cupcakes. πŸ˜† Even though I clearly heard her discussing her pink cadillac theme, I was completely flabbergasted by the actual decoration. It looked like Mike from Monsters Inc.
  12. I like April, but any baker who doesn't practice a mirror glaze before coming on this show deserves to be chastised. The contestants can be reasonably certain a mirror glaze will be a required element and they can be 100% certain that someone else will create a gorgeous dessert with a mirror glaze. I don't know how many years ago this was, but I still vividly remember Josh's red mirror glazed Santa cakes. Just spectacular. Nancy playing with that dessert like it was Silly Putty was childish and rude.
  13. I assume the point of having too few convection ovens is to increase the amount of running around the contestants need to do. I'm at the point where I don't really want to call them "bakers" anymore.
  14. I just got caught up. Jai is not too far from me! I hope she has a bakery. I like Christian. He's a little arrogant but not too obnoxious, more like confidence. Clemente has been kind of a disappointment. There's still too many bakers to figure out everyone, but there only seem to be a couple of duds. Very talented group.
  15. I must have misunderstood. There was a graphic showing the top female skaters and the top three were Russian, but were greyed out. Maybe it had to do with top scores of the season, regardless of where they were from, such as the Russian Nationals? Since Russian skaters are banned from ISU events, they can't be considered the top skaters in the world?
  16. I'm watching the European championships and I'm wondering why the Russians are allowed to skate, when their scores aren't "counted" anyway?

    Vesper (2022)

I was intrigued by the TV ads I've been seeing for Vesper so I watched it last night. It's a beautifully shot film and Raffiella Chapman is wonderful as Vesper. The ads are misleading though. This is not a rebel against the empire kind of movie. It's a very personal story which has an element of "savior" to it, but I don't think that was the main focus at all. The world building was well done overall, but some things really didn't make sense to me. I would have liked more backstory on her father and Uncle Jonas. How was Vesper as educated as she was? Why were the jugs created to feel pain at all? If their purpose was to be lab created semi-intelligent workers, why add in pain receptors? Why would Jonas eat jugs but not humans? If food is that desperate, cannibalism doesn't seem that far fetched. And why were the Pilgrims so intent on hauling metal to their camp if their huge tower is completely made out of wood? I like movies that leave me thinking after they're over. There were just enough gaps in this one to make me a bit annoyed with the story telling.

    Vesper (2022)

Struggling to survive with her father after the collapse of Earth's ecosystem, 13-year-old Vesper must use her wits, strength and bio-hacking abilities to fight for the future.
  19. Do brother/sister pairs, like the Browns, have a harder time with scoring? They are kind of limited in terms of the style of their routines. I mean, they can't go sexy (at least, I hope they don't!).
  20. I just watched this again on TNT or TBS (or somewhere). I had tears running down my face during Dean's death scene. It still hits me so hard! And Sam wandering through the halls and then shutting off the lights in the bunker got me in the feels too. Although whoever is responsible for Sam's grey wig should be drawn and quartered. It's just as horrendous on rewatch as it was the first time! It looks like an Einstein Halloween costume wig.
  21. What are "Black and White" cookies? Are they generic Oreos? The initial graphic of Aaron's skyscrapers and the black rectangles that actually ended up on the cake were drastically different! I am confused about his time management. Surely those cakes took a while to bake and cool. Why didn't he spend time cutting out his skyscrapers? His cake would have looked so dramatic.
  22. That would have been a great idea for the "crispy" pie! Jessica's bacon lattice looked amazing, BUT. Did she put that lattice work on raw? Or did she pre-bake the bacon? The thought of all that bacon grease flowing down into the pie as it cooked freaked me out! πŸ˜ƒ
  23. I'm so glad Sumera left and not Jessica! Jessica had a bad bake but overall her food has been wonderful.
  24. I was hoping the crew would explode the remaining credits. I don't think they even got away with half. That's still good for funding the Rebellion, but it leaves a lot in Imperial hands.
  25. The situation reminds me of the frog and the pot of water. As the Empire gradually expanded their reach and increased their oppression, people, like on Ferrix, got used to the deprivations and harsh rule. The heist is prompting the Empire to raise the temperature at maximum speed and the shock is alerting the average citizen they better do something now, before it's too late. I don't think Karn had an epiphany. He's acting more like a petulant child who got his toy taken away from him. He's still having his clothing tailored to reflect a higher status than he actually has.. I think his exile to cubeville is turning him into Javert, willing to do anything to catch the fugitive.
