I don't agree with the rankings (I'd move Arrow up the list and put Agent Carter at #1), but I agree with the description of Arrow's problems this season. I also don't like it when anyone claims to have the "definitive ranking" of anything.

The promo for this episode had included a scene of Malcolm saying to Thea (right before she's lowered into the LP), "You don't have to come back if you don't want to." That scene did not appear in the aired episode. JB retweeted a fan comment who wished it had stayed in. https://twitter.com/team_barrowman

Just watched that sneak peek of the dinner scene... loved the shot of baby Sara. However, after Felicity spoke, Thea gave her this look like, "who are you". I wonder if Thea knows what Felicity's relationship is to Oliver now. They barely met and rarely interacted up to now.

Below is the comic teaser for the next episode of The Flash. Why am I bringing it up here? Because it hints at the future Justice League and possibly explains why we're being deluged with DC superheroes, why the Atom and Black Canary stories were rushed through on Arrow this season, and why Sara is being brought back (possibly as the White Canary?). If DC Comics is building toward a TV Justice League, then it would explain a lot of why Oliver Queen's journey/story was intercut this season by other superheroes' stories and maybe affect next season of Arrow as well.

At the end of that NZ promo for 3x21, it looks like Thea is threatening to shoot Oliver with an arrow if he doesn't "get away from him". Does Thea save Diggle's life? If Oliver was actually about to kill Diggle, that could put a rift in their friendship.

looptab, I didn't think you said that. I was addressing the issue of what constitutes "fan service". IMO, just taking into account what fans want and ask for does not constitute fan service if what fans want coincides with what the EPs/writers want to do and is connected to the plot/character development. It's only fan service if it's completely gratuitous/unnecessary/irrelevant to the story. ETA: I don't think all fan service is bad. The boxing glove arrow was harmless fun. I also don't think all shirtless Oliver scenes are fan service (for example, shirtless Oliver for the sex scene was kinda necessary).

Here's MG's tumblr response to the "fan service" question: "Fan service" is something that is thrown into an episode just to please fans and isn't really necessary to the plot or the character. For example: putting a character in unnecessarily skimpy clothing or throwing in an obscure reference to an external work (source) The term apparently originated from the anime and manga fandom, and can include gratuitous nudity or sex, long fight scenes, and violence. (source) "Basically, if it has little plot-redeeming value, but makes the viewer sit up and take notice, it's probably fan service in one form or another." (source) Based on those definitions, I don't think that the Oliver/Felicity sex scene in 3x20 was fan service, nor do I think that making Felicity the love interest for Oliver is fan service. We've seen their relationship grow organically from ally to friends to partners to lovers over the course of three seasons, aided by the incredible chemistry between the actors. Having sex on the eve of what they believed to be their permanent separation was a natural progression of both the plot and the characters as developed on the show. IMO, an example of fan service on Arrow would be something like Oliver using the boxing glove arrow.

I"m trying to look on the bright side. If Oliver and Nyssa are forced to marry and then team up to defeat Ra's, then Nyssa could become the new Ra's, their marriage is dissolved, and Oliver returns to Starling City. Because of their temporary marriage alliance, they develop respect for each other. That plus Nyssa's friendship with Laurel will make the LOA an ally to help Oliver fight the new Big Bad next season.

Yes!... DR calls Oliver, Felicity and Diggle the "core of the show". I agree 100%.

Normally, I would post this in the Clock Tower Theater thread but it includes spoiled pics from that dinner in next week's episode, so here is the link (with a few sample gifs posted below): http://smoakingbabbles.tumblr.com/post/117429845440/meme-monday-on-sunday
