Remember that interview where one of the EPs used baseball analogies and said that KC & WH had been benched for most of S2, so they were being brought forward in S3, and how with such a large cast, they had to put other characters (Diggle) back some, etc. -- I don't recall the exact wording. Now this season, WM had said this is year of Diggle and Felicity. Well, using their revolving door rationale, it could be that next season (S5), Laurel will be brought forward again and given a big revenge arc. (That's assuming she has little to do in the back half of S4.)

Logical or not, the introduction of Curtis Holt has given ammunition to the 'argument' that Felicity is now replaceable on the team - unlike the masks who each have unique code names and comic-ky identities. I don't agree, but that's the argument. So while I may think that Felicity is an irreplaceable member of the team even without a mask - not just for her IT expertise but because she's the heart of the team (and also keeps Oliver in check), I can also see how giving her a mask might help the perception that she's equal to the masked heroes. Personally, I think there are too many masks on the show right now. Incidentally, EBR is not inexperienced in using weapons on a show... (EBR in Soldiers of the Apocalypse)

What if Felicity doesn't find out about Oliver's secret son until 414? And then she breaks up with him in the middle of their engagement party? That would be consistent with the way the EPs like to ruin happy moments.

Everyone is entitled to ship whoever they want. However, I find objectionable the implication that Felicity's only function on the show was to help Oliver transition from the Arrow into the Green Arrow - and that now she has turned Oliver into a real boy from the dark toward the light, she's no longer needed and should drop out, so that Laurel can step forward and reap the benefits of a relationship with a more mature, monogamous Oliver. On this point, I'm reminded of a Big Bang Theory episode when Penny complained that she's the one who made Leonard into someone that Priya would want to date. Also, saying that Felicity should die or go away in order to pave the way for Laurel to have the romantic relationship with Oliver is so Smallville - that show made it seem like Lois was second choice, someone that Clark was with only because his true love, Lana, was unavailable to him.

Alex could be a rogue member of DD's extended family, who's always rebelling against DD, but who DD can't kill because he's blood family. Maybe he'll end up trying to protect Thea against DD and dying as a result. I envision a scene where Speedy and Alex in HIVE soldier disguise fight each other (like Buffy and Riley in BtVS) and discover each other's secret identity.

I kinda see kismet's point. Why can't Felicity be both brainy and a somewhat decent fighter? She doesn't have to be as good as the others on TA, but some fight & weapons training wouldn't be unrealistic given their chosen lifestyle. Also, I noticed that male superheroes like Mr. Terrific are allowed to be both supersmart and a trained martial artist. And how many movies have we seen where the hero is both technically smart and a physical fighter?

I just posted a second roundtable discussion in the Starling City Times thread in which reviewers believe that Felicity will be traumatized or emotionally damaged in some way.
