It's probably just wishful thinking on their part. If you read the rest of the article, you can see where their preferences lie. Incidentally, Talk Nerdy With Us has published their interview with ER, but I'm going to post it in the Spoilers thread because it's arguably a little spoilery as to Taiana's character.

I've been reading some reviews and comments speculating that being seriously injured and almost dying (assuming she survives) will cause Felicity to rethink whether she wants to continue the hero lifestyle because it's so dangerous, or will somehow emotionally change her feelings toward Oliver. I just don't see that. This is not the first time that Felicity has been injured or thought she was dying. She was shot saving Sara in S2. More significantly, just last season, she thought she was dying from the virus thrown into the Nanda Parbat cell when Oliver was pretending to be evil. If she bounced back from that, then she should bounce back from almost dying now. Any other reaction would be OOC and just a plot contrivance.

That new Star Trek movie looks like fun. You know what I like about the Star Trek movies? The core cast of characters (Kirk & gang) go through hell and back in their space adventures, but you never have to worry about any of them being killed off permanently (fingers crossed this will not change in the future).

I rewatched this episode (only the second time, so I'm behind some of you ;) ) and I noticed two things that I didn't notice before (maybe they've already been mentioned in this thread, but I just don't recall)... When DD crashes the holiday party, he looks at Thea, hesitates and goes 'hmm' - at least that's what I thought the first time I watched. The second time, I thought the argument could be made that he recognized Alex and was surprised to see him there. Also, I noticed that DD's "family" (wife and daughter?) look similar enough to Alex both in coloring and features to be related. In the tree lighting/proposal scene, Oliver is wearing a tie in the same olive green color as his GA suit. Add to that the color of his jogging outfit in 401, and it's almost like he wants people to connect the dots.

I think they'll be dropping anvils for various characters over the course of the season. They've dropped anvils for Quentin and Laurel and maybe even Thea. Next they'll drop some anvils for Diggle. And they've been dropping anvils for Felicity throughout. They want to keep us guessing (hoping?) up until the actual death.

This reminds me... in the Jan. 2013 Ryan & Ryan podcast interview with MG and GB (recently posted in the Starling City Times thread), MG said that SA began bulking up even more (above his abs) during S1. You can see a noticeable difference from the pilot to later in the season, and esp. up to now.

I think he likes our scenes together as we laugh a lot and, as you know, he has to be very serious most of the time so, it’s always nice to have a bit of levity in a scene for a change, I think. That doesn’t apply to the scene we will be filming this week- it’s a tearjerker!" Maybe it's just transference. In the past, Laurel's go-to place has been to blame Oliver.
-
Wasn't Oliver right in front of the glass? If the Canary Cry could crack glass, then wouldn't it shatter his eardrums as well? Since the rescue was planned, then I guess he could be wearing earplugs, but then how did he hear DD and anyone else talk to him? Does he read lips?
-
What I noticed was that Laurel's 'pep talk' to Oliver didn't influence Oliver's thinking or his actions at all... Oliver: "Did you learn anything from the hotline?" Laurel" "Only how many crazy/bored people there are in the city. Don't go there." Oliver: "Where?" Laurel: "Your go-to place. Where you sit there and you say that it's all your fault." Oliver: "Well, it is my fault. I'm the one who outed Darhk." Laurel: "I know. I seem to remember us all being there when you did." Oliver: "I ran for mayor because I can protect myself and I thought that all of you could, too." Laurel: "And you were right, we can." Oliver: "I know, but you didn't sign up for this." Laurel: "Oliver, we can take care of ourselves. And that's including Felicity. You inspired a lot of people." Oliver: "Well, Thea and John and Felicity - inspiration is not what they need tonight. But somewhere, someplace there is a Ghost that's gonna talk to me." Laurel: "What if there isn't?" Oliver: "I'm going to take great pleasure in trying to make them." In that sense, this dialogue could never have been given to Diggle or Felicity because when they speak, Oliver is influenced in some way. For example, in 409, Oliver & Felicity have this conversation... Oliver: "I have that handled, Felicity. It had to be this way." Felicity: "Why? 'Cause you think that we're in this situation because of your decisions? Look, I really hate to be the one to break this to you, Oliver, but you are not the boss of me. And I am the one who decides whether I need anyone's protection. But at the Christmas party from hell, you said you were gonna propose and you didn't because you weren't sure our relationship could survive this kind of life." Oliver: "It was a holiday party. And I had more to say, but we were attacked." Felicity: "And here we are, fighting. Fighting our way through the danger instead of running away from it. Isn't that the whole point of marriage, to get through the hard times because we are together, not in spite of it?" Oliver: "Yeah." Felicity: "Just so you know, if you would have asked me, I would have said yes." And then later, Oliver proposes. Also remember that last season, Felicity is the one who gave him the "Don't fight to die, fight to live" speech that apparently was pivotal in giving Oliver the victory over Ra's (no matter how unrealistic). Not to mention her multiple "I believe in you" and "find another way" speeches from past seasons that influenced Oliver's thinking and actions. There are also examples of Oliver/Diggle conversations from past and current seasons (like the 406 scene when they share a bottle of Tennessee whiskey and Diggle reminds an oddly insecure Oliver that Felicity chose him and not supersmart Ray).
