Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
Blergh replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
I agree! And I also get mad at the girl's unseen parents who seemed to have no problems jaunting off to wherever- leaving behind a child too young, inexperienced and too small to help with a sitter who was too old and frail to not need to have someone looking out for her. I'm guessing that the child was by Grandma's change-of-life lastborn son who himself waited until he got a trophy wife before his own retirement to sire her. Sorry, I'm reading too much into this but having to make sure my own elderly mother is okay gets me mad at these sandwich generation dorks who seem to care more about 'free' sitters for folks too young/old to be on their own. -
Rinaldo, I think they were hoping to make a combined spin-off with Wojo& his girlfriend and their domestic life rotating with Harris& Dietrich and their 'odd couple' domestic life the other weeks. However; Wojo & his girlfriend didn't even work out in their two-parter episode (and she was never seen or referred to again)- and aside from a few Squad Room cracks between Harris & Dietrich re their temp arrangement, nothing came of that part of the intended spin-off. Oddly enough, the performer playing the-edge-of-retirement call-girl Wojo romanced also seemed to have entirely dropped out of known film or television productions after this two-parter. Yeah, I agree that this particular arc didn't work for Wojo. However; I think they COULD have done an after Barney spin off- perhaps having Wojo help rehabilitate ex-cons. At least Mr. Gail still seems to be working.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage

Jaded, If it's any consolation, if (in X number of years) Miss Blonde Ambulance Chaser were to do a spot urging folks to go after their coffers, it wouldn't come as a total surprise to me. -
Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage

Sometimes I see those ambulance-chaser ads with that individual come right after the 'cure all' stuff pitched and I wonder how long it will be before Miss Ambulance Chaser goes after them, too ? -
I know it may be sacrilege but IMO, Mick Jagger always sings as though he's on the verge of throwing up so I don't get the appeal. Oh, and when Bette Midler said [to him]she sang "Beast of Burden" better than anyone on her 'spoof' video, I TOTALLY agreed. She DID sing it like someone who'd just thrown off their yoke rather than as an entitled whiner ready to throw up over being called on asked to be monogamous. I wish HER version had gotten wider release and was the one that's been endlessly played on 'classic' stations.

If I have to splurge on fat, calories, blah-blah-blah, I make sure my ice cream/gelato is from a local parlor made with cream milked from grass-fed cows whenever possible. Even if one doesn't care how the cows get treated, the milk just tastes better that way and Iike my monies to go toward folks I personally deal with rather than a faceless corporate entity living who-knows-where. BTW, I always think it's funny seeing terms such as 'grass-fed cream' and 'grass-fed butter' as I've YET to see cream or butter attempt to eat grass. LOL

Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"
Blergh replied to Betweenyouandme's topic in Everything Else
Ok, here's one: fist bumps. I grew up in the 20th century and never did them then and have no interest in doing them now. So why do some folks actually get upset if they attempt to give you one and you don't respond in kind? Oh well, at least they're quieter than high-fives. -
Saw the "Jack Soo Tribute" one in which the regular performers appeared in their 'offstage' attire and reflected on how vital his contributions were. What was interesting was seeing James Gregory without the silly suits AND with a MUCH toned down New-York accent. Also, Hal Linden shined reiterating all the late Mr. Soo had had to overcome being as US-born child of Japanese immigrants in the years during and after World War II but used that comic edge as a way to make a difference. Yes, I could tell that everyone sincerely liked and missed him (too bad there were no post-show cast tributes to James Gregory, Ron Carey, Steve Landesburg or Abe Vigoda).

Let's not forget that Doris Roberts had a few run-ins with the One-Two. On two occasions she played the wife of a gold-hoarder who wanted him arrested so he would quit selling off her clothes and furniture. Anyway, she said in her Emmy TV Legends Archive Interview that she had a lot of fun playing the parts BUT she disliked having to work to their regular 2 AM quitting time.

Relationship Thread: Advice, Venting And Everything Else
Blergh replied to MH319's topic in Everything Else
OK, here's an unsolicited relationship tip: if your significant other is openly rude to their non-abusive opposite gendered parent, there's virtually zero chance they won't wind up treating you worse. -

I think most folks would agree that gum chewing is more appealing than tobacco chewing, though. I'm thankful that the latter habit seems to be done far less now than it was 20 years ago- even less prevalent than cigarette smoking. -

Ronnie Claire Edwards and Ann Morgan Guilbert ! Sad to lose them. Both made their shows much more fun than otherwise. I wonder if they ever met? Please be careful, Katherine MacGregor! -
Faux Life: Things That Happen On TV But Not In Reality
Blergh replied to Kromm's topic in Everything Else TV
People on TV NEVER seem to get wrong numbers or robo calls- ONLY calls that are relevant to plotlines or even convos they're currently having with 3rd parties. -
Agree- it's kind of like seeing Scooby and Shaggy act surprised that the 200th 'ghost' they've unmasked turned out to be a living human fraud.

How about fave restaurants and establishments where everyone knows your name [like "Cheers"]? That's one reason I'd hesitate leaving my hometown should my mother no longer be in this world.

A Case Of The Mondays: Vent Your Work Spleen Here
Blergh replied to potatoradio's topic in Everything Else
OK, here's a workplace pet peeve I'd like vent : why would an able-bodied person need forty-five minutes to use the restroom? I mean, I'd think they could build their OWN bathroom complete with commode and sewer line in that time. -

And I don't even see why it would be anyone's biz online what color socks I'm wearing so I can't imagine why anyone would want others to have access to bathroom or hygiene issues. UGH -
The Carol Burnett Show - General Discussion
Blergh replied to Meredith Quill's topic in The Carol Burnett Show
Last night [June 3,2016], Miss Burnett helped host a PBS special highlighting some of her personal fave skits. Yeah, they were quite hilarious (and I liked how two of them were with Tim Conway and Harvey Korman with her being NOT part of them- which I thought showed how she wanted to promote what she thought were the funniest altogether of the show rather than just blowing her own personal horn). The only downside of it was that she seemed as though she was a bit tired when she taped this. I know she's now in her 80's and one can't expect her to stay a bundle of youthful energy forever but it was sad to see. -
In Memoriam: Entertainment Industry Celebrity Deaths

As sad as his death and latter years have proven to be for Mr. Ali, is it too much to hope that folks reflect upon them will seriously consider whether the risks of permanent impairment and injury is worth themselves or their minor offspring participating in physical contact sports such as boxing and football? P.S. While I'm not by any means dissing him for having changed his original name or the reasons why he believed it was necessary to have done so, I think it should be noted that the original Cassius Clay was a very prominent planter who became a staunch abolitionist to the fury of his neighbors in Kentucky but was someone who was outspoken and not afraid of risks to have unpopular opinions- just like Mr. Ali. -
For me , I dump books when there's more than one extremely detailed blow-by-blow account of abuse and/or violence. I know that abuse and violence happens in real life all-too-often. However; when this gets detailed more than once (rather than having subsequent accounts being summarized), it gets me wondering whether the author actually is identifying with the perpetrator instead of the victim and whether they may even be getting cheap thrills depicting it despite any subsequent protests. Yes, I've dumped works that turned out to be what I call 'perp porn'.

Having discovered that there seems to still be a great love for the literary works of Winnie the Pooh and his friends, I think the time has come for us to have a Topic dedicated to him here. BTW, I happened to see "Winnie the Pooh and the Royal Birthday" - and, despite Mr. Milne having long since departed from the Hundred Acre Woods, IMO, this captured the essence of Pooh while celebrating 90th Birthdays of two well-known British folks. I won't give anything more away but it's well worth a look by Pooh fans young and not-so-young.

krimimi, I'm quite touched that you actually make a moving case for us Eeyores AND I like that there seems to be a Pooh affinity out there but since this isn't the book forum, I think I'll start one there.

The Bob Newhart Show - General Discussion
Blergh replied to David T. Cole's topic in The Bob Newhart Show
Good insight on the show, Big Mother (and the times which I WAS alive for). Yes, one might even go so far as to say that the show may have helped make psychology become more acceptable for those in need to seek. Still, I also liked that it wasn't above showing how utterly dependent some clients [e.g. Mr. Carlin] became on the sessions to the detriment of themselves being able to have independent, autonomous, contended lives. Oh, and Newhart could convey more emotion with an eye twitch or pause (while Dr. Hartley was trying be diplomatic to his clients, colleagues and even Emily) than some of the most exhaustive physical comedians could achieve. Loandbehold, I think the key to the Hartleys not killing accepting Howard is that Howard was their de facto child who was never intentionally mean or annoying (unlike his 'MTM' counterpart Ted Baxter). Even when Howard met up with Bob's engaged sister and 'inspired' her to break it off, they couldn't get mad at him because they believed that he'd meant no harm. -
I liked it when it Barney and his unseen wife had separated how everyone rallied for him BUT he did his best not to let his personal setback overwhelm him doing his job while acknowledging that he was unhappy with the outcome.

So because they're folks who are completely unable to dance, does this mean I shouldn't be grateful for having that ability [to a certain extent]? I have to admit that I have to work at 'being thankful in all circumstances' as per the New Testament injunction because IMO it IS a good exercise to try find some tiny sliver of hope that one may build upon in what may initially appear to be a completely hopeless or wretched situation -even though I'm more inclined to be Eeyore than Tigger.
