  1. Strawberries for me, too. I was going to hold out a couple of weeks for the local berries in the farmer's market, but strawberry fever took hold and I ended up buying some in a box store. God only knows where they came from.
  2. Left over Kentucky Fried for me. Maybe I'll do some actual cooking tomorrow.
  3. In all seriousness, killing off Death really doesn't make too much sense; (and I love Julian Richings in the role, too). I think they were going for the shock value. Hey, we've killed Death! And there's no more Mark of Cain! And here comes the Cloud of Ultimate Darkness! And the Impala is in a rut! Best Oliver Hardy voice: "And here's another nice mess you've gotten me into." edited to correct error in name
  4. Ah, I see. Glad we got that cleared up. Still, a scantily clad Death might be kind of fun.
  5. QUOTE It is the phrase I've put in bold that troubles me. The implication is that such women are throwaway trash that are marked for victimization. But perhaps I've misunderstood you.
  6. Yeah -- I know what you mean. I'm afraid the series is past its prime. Not familiar with Neil Gaiman -- just did a quick lookup, and looks interesting. May take a peek at his work someday.
  7. And that's not sexist? Strippers, hookers, and barflies are also human beings. In any case, I suspect Bruinsfan was not being literal, simply pointing out that Death could come back with a totally different persona.
  8. Ah, I see. Perhaps, next season, we'll see Dean do a special on the Cooking channel, called "How to make food offerings for gods and semi-divine beings" -- assuming, of course, that the Cloud of Doom doesn't shut down all the TV stations.
  9. Okay -- season finale: Dean gets some cosmetic surgery curtesy of a magical lightening bolt. Darkness is loose upon the Earth and air quality index goes into the red. Rowena turns into mega-witch. Death becomes dead. (Huh?) But, most importantly, THE DEANSTER KNOWS HOW TO COOK TEX-MEX! And here I thought Dean's idea of cookery was setting the timer on a microwave.
  10. Yeah ,the"sitting around computers" is a big part of the problem. That, and the poor acting. And the poor scripts.
  11. Planning on Spanish chicken and rice tonight. Last night, I improvised a bit: ground chicken, mixed with chopped onions, ranch dressing seasoning mix, and some bread crumbs, formed into patties and fried.
  12. The elaborate and extreme nature of the plan may be an indication that Oscar wasn't working alone. (Of course, it could also mean that the scriptwriters got a little carried away!) The thing is, while I can certainly imagine Oscar leaving drugs on Sherlock's porch, I can't imagine Sherlock falling for it. It would require something more than that for him to relapse. Oscar could be strewing heroin in Sherlock's path every day for years, but unless he happened to catch him in the right emotional state, it would be a waste of time and resources. I really don't have any problem with Oscar's motivation, although I entirely agree that we should have seen some indications of violence in him before this time. Whether he was smart enough -- or had the resources -- to pull this off on his own, is another matter altogether.
  13. I haven't been watching this series until a couple of days ago when I heard Ted Danson would be moving in next season. I've now seen 4 or 5 episodes, and don't think I can stand any more. Many TV series have poor first seasons, but they're seldom as bad as this. I'll tune in next season to see if DB Russel can rescue this turkey. And they'd better get some new writers as well. Worst. scripts. ever.
  14. This. Also, Oscar was in control when Sherlock was using. A sober Sherlock was not only beyond Oscar's control, but was openly contemptuous of him. Not good for Oscar's ego. The two possibilities for Oscar's motivation, i.e., being hired versus trying to fulfill his own murky emotional needs, are not mutually exclusive. He could possibly have been contacted by someone who knew something about his and Sherlock's past. This would be a great deal for Oscar -- he can have the perverse pleasure of luring Holmes off the wagon and get paid for it, too.
  15. Anne of Cleaves was wife #4 (1540), Catherine #5 (executed in 1541) Cromwell was executed in 1540.
  16. What can I say? It's a scandal.
  17. Top Pot Doughnuts are mostly in the Seattle area, but they've opened up a couple in Dallas, Texas. (I'm not sure how that happened -- it's quite a jump from Latte Land to the Lone Star State.) They have lousy coffee, by the way. Great doughnuts, bad coffee.
  18. Well, that was . . . intense. And it's only the penultimate episode -- what's the finale going to be like? Dean was awesome. And scary. Very scary. Crowley also awesome, especially with the red eyes. Cas and Sam seemed wishy-washy and foolish by comparison. Are there any Stynes left in Europe? If so, we may not be done with them, yet.
  19. Tonight: fish tacos. I've never tried them before, so this will be an adventure.
  20. I'm like Homer : "MMMMM . . . Doughnuts!" The only ones I don't like are the overly-gooey ones (too much filling or icing). As for doughnut chains: Love "Top Pot" and a local place called "Chuck's". Not impressed with "Krispy Kremes". Keep hearing about "Dunkin' Doughnuts", but, alas, we have none nearby. One of these days, I'll saddle up my Passat and go on a quest for DD in Latte Land. And, yeah, those prepackaged powdered mini-doughnuts can be addictive.
  21. Not surprising news; CSI has been past its expiration date for some time now. Oddly enough, though, I'm going to miss it.
  22. Tonight: grilled flank steak, baked potato, and asparagus
  23. Easy dinner tonight: leftover spaghetti and meat sauce.
  24. I definitely want a Dyad coffee mug! You know Orphan Black is taking over your life when . . . You refer to your cats (three females from the same litter) as "the sestras". Or, since they all have enthusiastic appetites, the "three Helenas".
  25. Found the episode to be a little boring. But . . . the miniature golf game was kind of fun. And they mentioned Jody Mills! Not as good as seeing her again, of course, but still . . .
