From what I have read, this is the only book so far, but there is a sequel in the works. I think there are some short stories also set in this alternate reality. I've only just started reading the novel, but, so far, the series is pretty close to what is written.

Steven has been told he will be a king someday, so I suppose he figures he will eventually get something out of the situation, whereas Lady Pole has nothing to look forward to. Thank goodness she has found some allies in Segundus and Honeyfoot.

Good episode. Miscellaneous thoughts: Looks like Ken Karn has a backbone after all, as long as he has sufficient motivation to act decisively. Too bad he's such a bastard. Poor Emma. I hope she finds a safe haven somewhere. Does she dare go back home? Manson's music: Don't really have an opinion on how good he actually was -- I'm not a good judge of such things. From what I've read, he did have some musical talent, although not as much as he thought he had. Outsiders who saw him perform mention that he had a strong stage presence, so with the right "packaging" maybe he could have made it. (I mean, if Herbert Khaury, aka Tiny Tim, could succeed, why not Manson?) Record company guy: My impression was that he was put off by Emma's delusions and was extricating himself from the situation. His job, after all, isn't to look for the next messiah; just find someone who can make money for the record label. ( On the other hand, maybe he'll decide promoting a messiah would be profitable.) I missed Charmaine. Was really sorry that the old priest got killed, although I was afraid something bad would happen when he said he was going to confront the gambler privately. And farewell, Jimmy Too. That actually was a surprise. (Although I should have seen it coming. Lucille wasn't going to put up with him for long.)

Currently reading Go Down Together: The True, Untold Story of Bonnie and Clyde, by Jeff Guinn. It's a grim book --per Guinn, the celebrated criminals lived squalid lives; often times barely surviving from day to day. A very different story from the highly romanticized 1967 movie.

It's possible. IIRC, his blood dripped on the tarot cards, particularly on "The Hanged Man". Perhaps that had some magical effect. Another great episode. I am enjoying this series immensely.

Tillamook ice cream is pretty good; not in the same league as Ben & Jerry's, but less expensive.

I don't think Kasabian was around at this time (1967). Although, from what I've seen so far, Emma has some doubts about Charley and the gang. Very curious to see what they'll do with her character.

Linda Kasabian -- if they do focus on her -- didn't actually do any of the murders, although she did participate in the creepy crawls and thefts. She was the chief witness for the prosecution. For the other Manson followers, I have little sympathy.

I love to dip bacon in syrup -- the wonderful combination of sweet and salty! I haven't seen maple bacon doughnuts in my area, although I've seen caramels with bacon and fudge with bacon. I guess bacon is the trendy thing now. I'm with those who stick with genuine maple syrup. It's worth the extra expense. (Also, from what I hear, it's healthier than the imitation stuff.)

The stages of tonight's dinner: 4:00 pm--It's 90 degrees in the shade. I don't wanna cook. 4:05 pm--So make a salad. 4:10 pm--Don't feel like eating salad. 4:15pm--So heat up some left-overs. 4:20 pm--Ate up all the left-overs earlier this week. 4:25 pm-Grill something? 4:30 pm -- The hibachi is somewhere in the back garage. It's hot and dusty in there. 4:35 pm -- Well . . . isn't there some kind of festival downtown involving music and food trucks? 4:36 pm -- BY GOLLY THAT'S RIGHT!!!! 5:00 pm -- Happily snarfing down BBQ pork sandwich and cole slaw. Nice music, too.

Ah, maybe I misunderstood. Shafe gave his wife such an odd look when she (the mom) said that. I figured maybe Kristin had fibbed to her mom to make the marriage more acceptable.

Is there any relationship in this show that isn't to some degree dysfunctional? Shafe and his wife seem okay, but I noticed she had evidently told her mother that Shafe was "high yellow". What happens when Mom finds out the truth? A thumbs up for Charmaine. Quixotic, perhaps, but her heart's in the right place. And Hodiak isn't even trying to stay away from the booze. That's not good.

I'd be interested if it wasn't Lifetime.

I actually liked Norrell in earlier episodes. Now, he seems despicable. What was the point of telling Lady Pole how long she was to live under these awful conditions? To make her more compliant? Anyway, the series continues to impress. Very well done -- performances, directing, special effects, everything.

Finally found time to watch this episode. Wish I knew some magic so I could get my RL work done faster. Anyway - - Really love this series. Quirky, funny, dark, and scary! Now I want to read the book, and I've already got 5 sitting on my "to-read" shelf.

Oh, for Heaven's sake. Yes, facelifts and other forms of cosmetic surgery have been around for a long time. Yes, even in the ancient days of the 60's. There aren't that many anachronisms in Aquarius, really.

Dinner for me turned out to be a plate of nachos from a stand at the farmers market. Had planned on something else but those nachos looked so good.

Curiously, I'm having no problem with that at all. If Grace looks a bit younger, I figure it's because she's had a bit of work done. She has the economic means to have all the plastic surgery she wants, and she's certainly concerned about her image.

I'm reading The Last Gunfight by Jeff Guinn, the history behind the "shootout at the O.K. Corral". Well-written and well-researched.

Not according to Guinn's biography of Manson. While in prison, he raped another inmate in a manner similar to his attempted rape of Karn, but how someone behaves in prison doesn't necessarily indicate their real sexuality. As far as I know, the whole gay relationships/blackmail plot is fictional. However, Manson did enjoy controlling other people, so it does fit his personality.

Can't get too enthusiastic about martinis, but National Pina Colada Day is on July 10. Only 3 weeks away!

I'm planning on huevos rancheros tonight. Not sure if that's inspiring or not.
