  1. Not sure, but they might be thinking ahead to the DVD release. DVDs don't usually bleep out anything, and may even have scenes cut from the original broadcast. (That's just a guess, I don't really know.)
  2. Dinner for me was a take-out hamburger from a family restaurant with a name connected with fruit and a flying insect. Big, big mistake. Would have done better at the Golden Arches. Could have been worse, though. Earlier this evening I saw Andrew Zimmern eating rats in Vietnam.
  3. I'm reading John Sandford's Rules of Prey, the first of his Lucas Davenport series, published in 1989. Davenport isn't quite so pleasant a character in this one -- guess he's mellowed over the years. Also reading Geoffrey of Monmouth's The History of the Kings of Britain. I've read portions of it back in my college days, mostly the Arthurian material, but not the early chapters. So far, Brutus and his allies have immigrated to Albion, which would become Britain, while fighting and slaughtering anyone in their way. I'm not finding it all that edifying.
  4. Made dinner midday, because it's a little too hot to cook in the evenings lately: fried chicken, roast potatoes, pea pods fried with ginger.
  5. Salmon seared in butter, barley with sour cream and dill, spinach sautéed with garlic
  6. I've put in hold requests for both Helter Skelter and and the Jeff Guinn book. Thanks for the recommendations. Geez, with all this extra reading, I'm never going to finish that book on Tahiti.
  7. No, he doesn't -- although, in the day, the more conservative elements of society would have automatically feared him for the long hair. Wanna-be hippies like me thought he was being set up by police. (He's a flower child! He didn't do it! ) Then more facts came out, and we still couldn't quite believe it, so out came the tarot cards and the I Ching to try to determine the truth. Took us a while to be convinced. To modern eyes, he doesn't look very appealing -- not dangerous, just unappealing -- but in those days, he would be attractive to counter-culture types. So I would imagine he gained followers fairly easily. But to be bed-partners with a "square" lawyer? That does seem a little far-fetched. To each their own!
  8. Welcome to the Hippie era! The gals are the ones with no beards. Ah, memories. Overall, I liked it, though it drug a bit at times (I mean "drug" in the sense of "slow", not what they're smoking). Loved the music and the general ambience. So, yeah, I'm in. Next step for me: read Helter Skelter.
  9. It is -- also rather watered down Doctor Who. But the movies are fun, anyway. And there's Peter Cushing!
  10. Pork chops, baked beans, green salad, and peach salsa.
  11. Currently juggling 3 books: Geoffrey of Monmouth's The History of the Kings of Britain; Alexis Soyer's The Pantropheon, and a guide book to Tahiti. That last one is for fueling my wishful thinking.
  12. If they bring Chuck back, it might be worth it. (That's assuming Chuck really is God.)
  13. I believe so, although my memory is a little fuzzy on that point.
  14. I was about 14 or 15 when this happened. What I remember most vividly from those days is (A) Roman Polanski sobbing -- I really felt bad for the guy -- and (B) my cousin and I doing tarot card readings to discover whether or not Manson was really guilty.(!) I've never read Helter Skelter, although I think I saw one of the movies.
  15. IIRC, the "forcibly turned into an addict" trope was also used in the first season of Graceland.
  16. Made chicken mole tonight; unfortunately, it didn't turn out well. Too sweet with a strange, bitter aftertaste. Not sure what I did wrong.
  17. I'll give this one a try, mainly because all the shows I watch, except Orphan Black, are on hiatus until fall. Who knows, it might be okay.
  18. Pizza -- yummy stuff! I voted for "delivery". Homemade is undoubtedly better, but delivery is the no fuss, no muss option. Frozen pizzas just don't do it for me, although the french bread pizzas aren't too bad.
  19. Currently reading Field of Prey by John Sandford, a mystery-suspense novel. I quite like his style -- will probably seek out other books written by him.
  20. I did not call the show sexist or misogynistic or anything of that nature. I was concerned about a phrase another poster had used. Apparently, I haven't spoken clearly enough in the past. So let me be clear now: I do not engage in verbal wrangling, unless there is some fun or wit involved. I see neither in our current discussion.
  21. I made no claim that the show was misogynistic.
  22. This forum is turning into a big threat to my waistline, what with the doughnut thread and this one. I like just about any ice cream, except licorice. I'm quite partial to Baskin Robbins chocolate almond.
  23. I rather enjoyed those movies -- not really Doctor Who, but with Peter Cushing in the main role, I didn't care.
  24. That was my impression, too. Sam owed him a death. That was the bargain: Death would send Dean to a far away place where he couldn't hurt anyone, on condition that Sam finally die. I'm not entirely clear why he expected Dean to be Sam's executioner, though.
  25. I didn't remember that, but you're right. Hum! What now, I wonder? Will it be like that Torchwood series, in which nobody can die? (shudders)
