  1. When I was 10 years old we moved from California to El Paso, Texas. On my first day in school there the teacher asked me a question and I answered, "yeah." She very quietly said, "When you speak to me you say, "yes, Ma'am." That is why I was so surprised to hear some of the terms (bucks, guys) used by Chip and Joanna. Maybe things have changed, or they didn't grow up in Texas. Or it could be producer driven to add folksieness, which is just wrong.
  2. When we had the wallpaper in our kitchen removed we put in new light fixtures over the table and sink that are brushed nickel. The newish faucet is also that finish so we replaced all the cabinet hardware with brushed nickel (pulls were ceramic, but the hinges were brass). I looked around and 'noticed' that the brass pantry doorknob was a tad out of place. My husband told me to just ignore it, so I do :)
  3. Better add pooled drapes to the drinking game.
  4. Thanks for clearing that up! I wasn't sure exactly what he said about his mother-in-law.
  5. On the most recent show Joanna mentioned his dental work and, if I heard him correctly, Chip said something about his mother-in-law from China.
  6. Shiplap! Guys! Bucks! Let the drinking game commence!!! :)
  7. Eating a roach and lifting his shirt weren't simply goofy. Those two things were disgusting. Producer driven or not... ewww. The show really should concentrate more on the houses and reno work/design decisions and spend less time on the Gaines family and dorky stuff. Joanna is getting on my nerves by calling people "guys," Once again, does Baylor produce grads that are so poorly spoken? I don't think so. Producers, get a grip--southerners don't all talk like that and we're insulted that you think those terms are "folksie."
  8. I doubt that a Baylor grad would actually speak that way. I've lived in the south for more than half my life (Texas, Louisiana, Georgia) and even rednecks don't speak like that. Most of them have more pride. We are working with a contractor right now who's adding a screen room to our house and he and his carpentry crew all speak like professionals. In fact, the contractor has come up with design suggestions that would put HGTV "designers" to shame. And he refers to money as dollars, not bucks.
  9. Ewww. That was creepy. The dance routines were really awful, especially the group. It's a good thing they aren't participating in real competitions.
  10. Nice couple and enoyable show to watch without the bickering prevalent on so many HGTV programs. They do some really tasteful work, but some of the "accessories" overly clutter any available flat surface and the big letters and clocks on the walls are tiresome. One thing that irks me is the "folksy" way Chip talks about money--referring to dollar amounts as bucks. I think he's a Baylor grad, not some country hick. When something costs $1000, say a thousand dollars, not a thousand bucks. Personal rant ended :) I would like to add that Joanna is seriously beautiful. I envy her exotic looks and gorgeous hair!
  11. I have to go see if that one's on my DVR! Interestingly, I actually know a 40-something woman just like that who posts on Facebook about meeting & marrying her prince & living in a fairy tale. She's one of the biggest phonies & "storytellers" I've ever met. I could see her applying to be on HH & behaving like that.
  12. That was the impression I got. Or...the nice home they were moving from was under water mortgage-wise or in foreclosure.
  13. I can't believe no one has mentioned the husband and wife who DIDN'T want two sinks in the master bathroom because they "enjoyed" brushing their teeth together at the same sink. That just struck me as gross. Drinking wine together is quality time. Teeth brushing together? Just no.
  14. Well... three hours was two hours too long. When I realized it wouldn't be over until 11pm my time I started folding laundry and zoned out until the last hour. An encore of Bethany's freestyle? Seriously, show. Was that to appease Golden Boy for being eliminated? I don't have any trouble understanding Sadie because I'm accustomed to Louisiana accents. And I just adored her, but was so happy that Alfonso won the Mirrorball trophy.
  15. Team Itsy Bitsy was overscored and overpraised. That is all.
  16. I'd never heard of her and looked up a couple articles about her You Tube success. She has an agent, sponsors, and even a lawyer. The agent's goal is to get her the gigs, such as magazine features, commercials, and a spot on DWTS. Then I looked at one of her videos. She's what they call a "hauler"--she shops for clothing and cosmetics and then shows off her "haul" in a video when she gets home. That genre must be very popular with tweens and teens who aren't likely to realize she probably gets a lot of stuff free in order to promote certain brands. Interestingly, in the first "Badie" video with her and Sadie, Bethany talks about performing live in front of an audience and mentions the dance competitions she had previously taken part in. So, she does have at least some experience/training. That may be why she got partnered with Golden Boy.
  17. Four 10s for that umbrella twirling crap? I'm sorry, but there was very little dancing difficulty in that number. The steps were super simple and I saw nothing worthy of a single 10, let along a perfect 40! The judges are just too biased in favor of their Golden Boy. That guest judge was ridiculously unqualified and Julianne needs to just disappear along with her ugly hairstyles and outfits.
  18. Scores so far are pretty low. Bethany up in the sky box has a total bitch face on after every competitor dances. I would LOVE to see her eliminated sooner rather than later, but they appear to be 'safe' this week.
  19. Has anyone watched her videos on You Tube? She is "perky" and "adorable" in what I imagine appeals to young teens, but between the perky parts her expressions are what y'all call Resting Bitch Face--similar to what I noticed during DWTS. She may be only 18 or 19, but with her social media base I'm guessing that she'll do well with call in votes.
  20. So glad she didn't get cut. The prop malfunction wasn't her fault and she certainly finished with a flourish.
  21. I'm not a fan of Duck Dynasty and have Never watched the show, although my husband thinks it's hilarious. However, Sadie seems adorable and I was impressed with her first appearance. I used to dance with an adult ballet company and it isn't easy to face an audience for the first time when you aren't accustomed to it... and our group wasn't on live TV.
  22. Sadie doesn't bother me, but I'm from Louisiana and totally understand how their faith is a huge part of southerners' lives. I'm Jewish, but have mostly Christian friends and it's not unusual for them to pray openly, such as saying grace before a meal in restaurants. Plus, Sadie is just a teenager. If I had been in her position at that age my parents would have wanted to approve of the costumes.
  23. Please, please, please... dump the Scarlett character next season! Send her, her funky wardrobe, and her woe-is-me angst back to where she came from. Seriously, she adds nothing interesting to the other actors' storylines except chaos. She's such a downer that she's ruining other characters' lives in addition to her own. Plus, I cannot stand the actress who plays Scarlett's voice and can barely understand a word out of her mouth. Basically, I think the reason for her mushy speaking voice is that she's trying to convey a Southern accent while simultaneously covering up her natural Aussie accent. It's not working. Trust me, I'm from Georgia and have no problem understanding the other actors, even Gunnar.
  24. I read earlier that Michelle Obama is making a "guest" appearance on an upcoming episode. Not sure that there's any benefit to the show in having her on it, but the article is here http://www.deadline.com/2014/04/michelle-obama-nashville-series-cameo-military-episode/#more-716787
