  1. Please don't hate me but I'm replacing my very worn 30-year old laminate kitchen countertops with granite in a couple weeks. The sink will also be granite and mounted under the counter top. Also being replaced with a black solid surface cooktop is the 20-something year old 'almond' color cooktop. Granite will also replace a faux marble countertop with a cracked integrated sink in a nearby powder room. We still have an almond colored fridge in the kitchen, which won't match the other black appliances. We put in a black dishwasher last year to replace the 29-year old almond one that finally died and the built in oven/microwave is also black. Some day we'll have a black fridge to match, but won't ditch a perfectly serviceable fridge simply because it's the wrong color.
  2. I just got the email from BB&B about the "Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines" items available and took a look at them. They are mostly accent pillows and rugs with some 'throws' in the mix and all VERY expensive. I shop at BB&B quite often and use the $5- and 20%-off coupons they send me in the mail. Even with 20% off there were no items that I'd consider purchasing. The rugs are way over-priced IMHO, with some going for as much as $3500 for a 13' by 18' rug. The accent pillow designs are mostly ugly. Again, JMHO. If those are priced similarly to what JoJo uses to stage the Fixer Upper houses, I wonder how many of their clients actually purchase them.
  3. Thank you for sharing. I'm so sorry for your loss, but my experience with a three-month tubal pregnancy was similar. No sex determined and when I asked if we needed to arrange a burial they told me no--the hospital took care of 'arrangements' and I didn't ask what they were. It was pretty depressing. My thought was similar to yours...that unless it was a nearly full term stillborn there was no way for her to hold it in the blanket.
  4. I thought that "blanket" part was nonsense and wondered if anyone else noticed it. I also wonder if a miscarried baby would be brought to a woman in the hospital... any nurses here who would know?
  5. Six of us (parents & four children) shared one bathroom and (horrors!) I shared a bedroom with my youngest brother until I was a teenager!!
  6. I've had three miscarriages and one tubal pregnancy. and it never occurred to me that they might have been "my fault." My husband and I really wanted a baby, but we accepted that it wasn't going to happen. Even after all that, I never carried on the way Sad Chipmunk Scarlett did with all the tears and angst. I really can't stand Clare Bowen because I can't understand what she's saying most of the time. Why on earth was she--an Australian--selected to play a southern country music singer? Her accent is terrible and she mumbles most of her lines. I haven't liked her since the first episode she appeared in.
  7. I personally dislike split level homes so I thought changing the front entry to the upper level was genius. I didn't care for all the bare looking wood on the front porch and dormers--to me it just looked unfinished. But the porch itself was a really nice addition and complemented the front of the house and curb appeal.
  8. I'm an even bigger meanie because I wondered how much filler she'd had injected into those duck lips. It was painful to watch her speak.
  9. Whoa...that photo. Dude needs a haircut AND a shave. Also looks like he could use a shower.
  10. I was confused by that at first, but kinda guessed that "Bennett" was her middle name. Here in the deep south a lot of women are given a family name as a middle name. I had a boss whose middle name was Duncan,, which was a family name from past generations.
  11. A friend and I were talking about the show today and both of us are puzzled by how dark the filming has gotten. It's almost like no one in Nashville has paid their power bills and their electricity has been cut off. C'mon, some of us fans are old and our eyes can't take all that dreary lack of light on the sets. Turn on some lamps for pete's sake.
  12. From the blog, "Magnolia Table will be serving breakfast, brunch & lunch, so in addition to Chip’s favorite breakfast items, you will also find his famous ham sandwich on the menu." Chimp's FAMOUS ham sandwich... Seriously?
  13. I've gotten more attractive throw pillows than those at WalMart for $10 or less.
  14. The first time my husband and I went with my mother-in-law to her Southern Baptist church I nudged him when the choir began singing "Amazing Grace" and whispered that's a Willie Nelson song! Then, they sang "I Saw the Light" and he shushed me before I could say Johnny Cash!! I'm Episcopalian and had never herd those songs in church. LOL!!
  15. I saw a "sponsored link" on the Yahoo News page that claimed Joanna is leaving the show to concentrate on her skin care line because she's a "serial entrepreneur."
  16. Drake is a wonder. His version of My Happiness is actually better than Elvis' original recording. However, Drake is so true to the Elvis tribute artist persona that I can forgive him for being (almost) superior to Elvis in his early days.
  17. Apparently they couldn't get permission to perform "That's All Right Mama" but "Blue Moon of Kentucky" is a winner. I love Drake.
  18. I enjoyed the music--what there was of it--but little else.
  19. I've been following Drake's journey since we met on The Elvis Cruise when he was only nine years old. He's such a nice young man and I'm so happy to see his success.
  20. There was also the movie "Honeymoon in Vegas" with the Flying Elvi--skydivers dressed as Elvis. As a huge Elvis fan (I saw him perform at the International Hotel in Vegas), I have three tabby cats named Elvis, Priscilla, and Lisa Marie. Yes, they all sing.
  21. I looked forward to Sun Records, mainly because of Drake Milligan's portrayal of Elvis. I met him and his mother on The Elvis Cruise in 2007. Nine-year old Drake was the youngest Elvis Tribute Artist on board and he was better than some of the older "Elvi" who performed on the ship. Drake has competed in Elvis Tribute Artist competitions and often won in his age category in the Collingwood Elvis Festival. His only previous acting experience was in a short film about Elvis, entitled 'Nobody'--as in a young Elvis' comment when asked who he sounded like and he answered, "I don't sound like nobody." It's been quite a thrill to watch Drake's journey as he's matured and I can't imagine any other performer as Elvis in Sun Records. You can see Drake on the cruise below. He had the moves down pat, but his voice hadn't quite matured yet.
  22. I didn't think it was ugly either. In fact, my home was built with the very same type brick and I think it's lovely.
  23. Doesn't everyone want macrame plant hangers and bare lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling on each side of their bed in the master? I thought the entire house was fugly and cold looking.
