There was an author on years ago, talking about Blackwater mercenaries. Jon was so bizarrely rude to that guy he dropped the book on the floor and didn't bother to edit or retake... or pick it up. -

For reals I thought Jay Pharoah was Kanye when I first glanced at this. According to his IMDb page, none, although he may have a cameo in Chris Rock's film Top Five. ETA He definitely has a cameo in Top Five. Also, reading a person's Twitter feed can really alter your perception of that person. 140 characters means he's either really bitingly sarcastic or a total asshole. -
It sometimes freaks me out that I haven't watched this show on a regular basis in like... maybe 15 years and I still can come up with a relevant quote for an actual situation on a daily basis. "Ah beer, my one weakness. My Achilles' heel, if you will."

Yeah, after the first UD definition it's usually just people trying to be gross. Although that one did amuse me.

"The Daily Show": Week of 9/1/14

I appreciate that she had a history in the industry before I became aware of her, but I could never understand the appeal. And, as one of my Twitter friends said "Joan Rivers was gleefully racist, wished death on Palestinians, a rampant transmisogynist, generally an all around hateful & horrible person" so... there's that. -

I think I heard that the person who hacked Scarlett Johanson was convicted, although I don't know the sentence. Although I have no statistical or factual basis for this theory, I strongly suspect that the majority of these hackers are middle class white guys who, as a general rule, are rarely penalized as they should be for their crimes. -
I find that suspect. I'm almost positive I've heard Martin deny earlier allegations of nuisance audience members. Also, were it such a problem, the theatre could confiscate all cameras and phones before people entered -- I've had that happen for premiers at movie theatres, so I imagine a live theatre could do the same.

I didn't even notice "surfbort" -- and if the definition is actually #3 from Urban Dictionary that's pretty risque for Sesame Street!! :)

Oh, the one weird benefit of working at a company that networks through NYC. JASON! is a parody talk show -- kind of heavily mocking Ellen IMO -- with (obvs) Jason as the host and Samantha Bee as his first contractually obligated guest. They show of clip of a piece she did on penis pumps being covered by the Affordable Care Act and at one point she holds the pump up to her cheek and it gets "stuck". Coming back from the piece, Jason is being an idiot about it and she says that she had a hematoma from her ear to her chin for a month. I did actually stop watching the video because it was awkward humour, which isn't always my favourite. Jason and Samantha are both very hit-or-miss for me. -
Just saw the Sesame Street video -- ADORABLE!!! Do kids even get these jokes? GIFs and Shelfies? Still amazing. I always hope that the celebrity fully appreciates how much of an honour it is to work with the Muppets, as they are the greatest things ever and Jim Henson was a god among men*, so I am sooooo happy to see John geek out over the whole thing. *I'm not even sure why I love the Muppets so much but I do. I really, really do.

I'm super curious if SB's hematoma story is true. Also, does it ever weird you out that they are married? -

Every time I see a superfluous caution tag/sign I think of Homer Simpson: Kent: Springfield has come down with a fever. Football fever, brought on by the biggest game of the year: the Pigskin Classic between the Shelbyville Sharks and our own Springfield Atoms. If you have the fever, there's only one cure; take two tickets and see the game Sunday morning. Man: Warning: tickets should not be taken internally. Homer: See? Because of me, now they have a warning. -

The first two sections were really great. I did turn off half-way through the interview though. Like Jon, I consider the advent of "enchanted objects" to be the (potential) death of "human ability to function." Like can we not take responsibility for any action anymore? We need a pill bottle to guilt us into taking our meds? We need social media to shame us into exercise? (I actually turned off when the interviewee said he posts his FitBit data to Facebook. I just do not understand the mentality.) -

From the pictures I'm seeing (and the videos I'm not seeing) I assume that Benedict and Martin weren't there? -
I love the Boyle Bingo. As @Rinaldo pointed out, it somehow manages to mock Boyle in the most sweet and caring manner possible and I can't even quantify how they did it. Possibly just because they know him so well ("Boyle says 'Boom!'") and are clearly delighted by him??

So You Think You Can Dance Elsewhere

In my reviews of SYTYCD-Canada I found this routine. Honestly, sometimes I just skip the video when I see it's "contemporary" because the current season is making me so weary but this one is pretty freaking amazing. -
S01.E15: Ferguson, MO and Police Militarization
dusang replied to Athena's topic in Last Week Tonight
In the documentary How To Make Money Selling Drugs they interview a former state trooper (I want to say from Texas but I'm guessing) who made his career through minor drug busts on highways and moved up to "SWAT raids" (he called them "no-knock raids") on drug busts. He described "no-knock raids" as the scariest thing imaginable for the targets and was near tears remembering the hundreds of raids he had conducted during his time on the force. -
