  1. I know. I was thinking of Elton John's Rocket Man when he sings, "All the science, I don't understand." I really thought Mark would do better. I've never seen Shark Tank, so I knew nothing about Mr. Wonderful. Well, not I know he's annoying on Jeopardy and not very good at it. A good friend of mine lives in Green Bay and is a huge Packers fan. He said the sentiment up there today was they were happy Aaron won but disappointed he missed the Harley Davidson clue.
  2. I agree completely. The owner of the consignment shop should have had Bailee's coverage. Had the plaintiff had homeowner's insurance, she could have claimed the jewelry under her policy, although there's usually a sublimit for jewelry. However, the onus to insure those items was on the defendant. I think JJ got it wrong.
  3. I don't know that site first-hand; I suspect if I tried to sign up on Christian Mingle being a black, lesbian, atheist, it might cause their server to explode. However, I think there are scammers on all those dating sites. There are honest people, too, but you have to be savvy, for sure. A friend of mine recently separated from her hubby. She's of the mindset that the best way to get over one guy is to get under the next. I think she should take a year off and just work on herself, but what the hell do I know? So, anyway, she's been hitting all those sights pretty heavily. Her profile is a current picture and she's honest that she is just looking for something casual. It's no surprise she gets lots of responses. However, it's been an endless series of losers. She's at a point where if a guy just showed up looking remotely like his picture and had at least 3/4 of his teeth she'd be thrilled.
  4. I have no idea how it works, but I'd be surprised if they have to pass a test. That's not a slam at celebs; I just don't see it going down that way. They probably do a few practice games, but I can't see them taking a test.
  5. Here is a link to the cheese balls case: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPG6nKP487s
  6. Gabby Giffords was my congresswoman before she had to step down, so I'm a huge Mark Kelly fan. I love that his twin brother is also an astronaut. They were on CBS Sunday Morning not long ago, and they're both very impressive. I'd put Martin Short on my list of worst celebs on CJ. He was such a ham and, if I remember, ended up in the red. He was also annoying on Hollywood Game Night. Andy Richter and Jerry Orbach are high on my favorites list. Michael McKean, who is now on Better Call Saul, was excellent on CJ.
  7. I agree that she is hard on people, even some who don't deserve her wrath. But then we all know how she is. Where are they getting these people who would willingly go on the show, knowing how JJ is? Being mean and impatient is her whole shtick. I've said it many times: if for some reason I chose to go on a court show, hers would be the last one. While it would be nice to get more information about the backstory before she goes on a rant, that's not gonna happen on JJ. I watch The People's Court, and MM manages to hear cases without even bringing up her litigant's sources of income. So it can be done. I think this is a great discussion and love that we have a forum where we can discuss these issues. I'd love to discuss it more, but I have to go to work. :-)
  8. I thought it was a good episode, by CJ standards. As long as no one tries to ham it up, I'm good. I was rooting for Neil or Vince to win since I love The Middle, Breaking Bad, and Better Call Saul. His DD wager was exciting, but I was surprised he missed FJ. Some of you have mentioned your favorite CJ contestants. Who are your least favorite?
  9. She was one of the worst liars I've seen on the show. The handwritten letter that she claimed she had given to someone else? Did she then try to say she wrote the letter twice? If she and her daughter are two of the most honest people out there, I think we're in bad shape.
  10. Good for you! That's on my bucket list. I shared the cheese ball case with my parents this weekend, and they loved it. That's a classic! My mother used to say: "People who want to work find work. People who don't want to work find excuses."
  11. Why not both? I don't know why so many litigants think you can't work and go to school. I worked, at least part-time, the entire time I was in high school and college. Unless you're lucky enough to have parents who can pay for it or a full scholarship, I can't think of a reason not to work while attending college. Hell, I had the GI Bill, which covered almost all of my expenses, and I still worked while in college. It was nice to have spending money and not worry about my government check coming in late and leaving me short. I think JJ's litigants don't understand that you can be more than one thing at a time. You can be partially disabled and work. Maybe you can move furniture, but you can work in an office. Yet all the litigants we see who collect disability wouldn't dream of attempting to do any type of work. You can be a student and an employee. I've never worked at a place that said I couldn't take classes during my free time. You can be lovers and not be parents. I know contraception is such a radical concept, but some folks don't procreate with every person they date! Anyway, we're not exactly dealing with two-step thinkers here.
  12. I'd love for Selina to admit her mistake to Amy, but it'd be really out of character for her to do so. This episode did exactly what any good show should do: make next week's episode a must watch for me. Veep isn't usually the first thing I watch on Sunday evening, but it will be next week. I can't wait to see how this plays out.
  13. Christine Baranski had to deal with Cybil Shepherd's oversized ego and now has to put up with Julianna/Archie feud/non-feud (who knows what the truth is there?) Maybe someone should give Baranski her own damn show. She's certainly earned it.
  14. As a lifelong Phillies fan, I feel your pain. We have an awesome mascot. At this point I'd trade him for a player who isn't an AARP member. I got FJ right away, although I had no idea what street Wrigley Field was on and know very little about the Cubbies. The mascot being a bear and the team being 100 years old made it easy for me. I could see how a non-baseball fan may have had trouble with it. I am usually really sensitive to annoying players, but the champ doesn't bother me in the least. He picks clues quickly and doesn't hop all over the board. I know the mustache isn't popular, and I'm not a fan of it either, but his gameplay doesn't bother me.
  15. I'm enjoying these stories! I met a woman online and we chatted via Skype, text, etc., but never met in person since she was in Phoenix and I live in Tucson. We had talked about meeting during one of my frequent business trips to Phoenix but at this point had not met. She was working as a manager of a chain restaurant, and had no dependents, so I figured she was probably doing at least well enough to handle her own business which, again, is all I require. Then she called me one evening and asked if she could "hold" $1,500 until she got her next paycheck. I assume anyone who asks me if they can "hold" a decent amount of money has never "held" that much damn money at one time in their lives. Like your situation, I didn't ask for any specifics; the details didn't matter to me since I knew I wasn't giving it to her! So I refused and told her I was a bit offended that she would even ask someone she had never even met for money. She tried to lay a guilt trip on me about my lifestyle and how I wouldn't even miss that "little bit" of money. She even cursed at me and called me selfish. Yeah, that'll really change my mind!
  16. Me either. Hell, I'd rather be alone than be with someone who can't even support herself. You don't have to pay anything for me but you do have to be able to support yourself. He has three kids and makes $9 an hour? That man is just full of bad decisions. Did she say she continued to give him money after finding out he was married? That's a whole new level of desperate. As we usually see on this show, she seemed otherwise normal. She wasn't a troll or an otherwise unattractive lady. I don't date men, so maybe there just aren't any out there? But, again, being alone would be more desirable than the shit these women put themselves through to try to get a man.
  17. It could have been allergies. My eyes water like crazy from allergies. People often think I'm crying. It's really bad when the pollen count is high.
  18. JJ is a bit out of touch with what we like to call the real world. I've been poor and I've been where I am now, and it costs a lot more money to be poor. A whole lot more. Bank fees, interest rates (if you can even get someone to loan you money), inflated charges for groceries in poor neighborhoods, it goes on and on. When I barely made enough to scrape by I didn't have a bank account. They had minimum balances or you paid fees. That seemed like a sucker's bet to me; I'm not paying you to keep my money! When I finally was able to get a bank account, there were times I had to deposit a couple of dollars into the ATM so I'd have enough in there to take out the $20 minimum. Incidentally, I recently discovered that the money machines at Walmart have only a $1 minimum for withdrawals. I took out $14 just because I could (my bank reimburses ATM fees since they don't have physical branches.) Where were these machines when I was broke?!
  19. I forgot to mention my favorite part of the episode. When Dre was explaining to Bow that his mother was probably going to be gone forever and Bow couldn't stop smiling and dancing. That was a fantastic scene.
  20. I agree. This episode resonated with me. My mother still refers to my partner as my friend. She knows we're together and accepts who I am, but she's never going to say girlfriend or partner or wife. Do I wish she would? Of course. But getting my born again Christian mother even to this point was an achievement. I'm black, but I had a long-term partner who was Italian, and her mother acted the same way. It's definitely not just a gay thing. Pops reminds me a lot of my dad. So I think I can give an educated guess. He wouldn't have had much to say. While my mother was shocked when she found out I was a lesbian, my father told me he was just glad I'd finally figured it out. He'd known my whole life and just wanted me to be happy. I could see Pops having the same type of reaction. The scene at the office in which the female employee mentioned being a lug also resonated with me. It is probably different for gay men, but when guys find out I'm gay, they pretty much react the same way as Dre's colleagues.
  21. I couldn't believe the son was only 20. He looked at least 30 to me. Do hillbillies just age faster? It would have appeared more age appropriate had he married the 59 year old who looked like she was 90! Since Mother's Day is approaching, I need to remind myself to thank my mom for the good genes and also the good sense to live right. Hard living will age your ass real fast.
  22. Don't get me started on the "Blank her? He hardly knew her!" It makes me dive for the remote every time he starts to say it, and I always just miss it by a few seconds.
  23. That's certainly part of it. Who the hell pays on a car they own without knowing where it is? I'm so glad MM demanded they report it stolen before they could leave. I didn't catch if there was a follow up to it. I'd love to know if they actually reported it stolen. Was the judgment contingent on them reporting it? Also, the ID part of it made no sense to me. My older sister and I look almost exactly alike. In my younger, wilder days I will admit to borrowing her license so I could buy alcohol. She didn't mind because she thought anyone old enough to serve in the military should be able to have a damn beer. Anyway, I always returned it right away. That's an important document you need to have on your person. If the defendant had the plaintiff's license it had to have been with her knowledge and permission. I just don't believe otherwise.
  24. I think we have a better chance of Curt getting decked in the face than Harvey. Curt can be confrontational with the litigants when they come out to talk to him. I can't really blame the ones who just blow right past him.
  25. Does anyone else think the twins in the case of the car loan were in cahoots? Something didn't sit right with me.
