  1. I'll mention it again as well, even though I did after his first episode. Yes, he's overbetting. It will eventually bite him in the ass. I can't remember now, but I remember thinking the contestant going into FJ in third place also made a bad bet. You're already in third place, wouldn't it make sense to either bet nothing (and hope the other two get it wrong) or bet enough to beat the person in second place? I don't understand why you'd bet it all if you're in third place, although I'm sure there are times when it would make sense to do so.
  2. Nice find. I saw this on some website this morning and knew someone here would've posted it by now. This episode is so old JJ let the plaintiff introduce hearsay and use the word "basically" over and over again. BTW, I really shouldn't have read the comments below the clip. Some people are really horrid (behind the anonymity of their computer screens).
  3. At one point last night, he said it right before they went to a commercial and then did it again right after they came back from the commercial. I almost threw my shoe at the TV.
  4. The witness had me howling. That place should have installed cameras and done a reality show. They'd have made a hell of a lot more money and probably been quite entertaining to watch.
  5. I've never heard of it. I wonder why they don't show all of the answers on the screen. This show is just not very well thought out at al.
  6. I think he made up the whole leash thing anyway. Like the plaintiff said, this wasn't the first time she's boarded her dogs. She certainly had enough sense to bring a leash and collar for her dogs. The defendant was just a lying piece of crap.
  7. I was rooting for the middle guy since he's from my current city, Tucson. However, I was fine with Dan winning. Did he overbet, though? I deleted it and can't check it now, but I remember thinking he bet way more than he needed to. I'm glad it worked out for him. The genuflect king is gone.
  8. There was mention of him trying to kill his family with a machete. Like MM, I can't understand why the wife had anything to do with him once she'd already gotten away from him. I felt sad for the daughter, although she really is better off without him in her life anyway.
  9. The challenger only picks the next category when the contestant has two wrongs. In the top ten challenge, the contestant has the option to play it or let the opponent play it. I found myself actually screaming at the TV tonight. The host kept asking if they understood what he was saying. Wtf is that? Every episode I tell myself I won't watch another, but I'm such a trivia whore I can't stop myself. I will, however, do the same thing many of you are and just fast forward through the inane chatter. I was hoping for a rapid succession of questions like The Chase or even Jeopardy. This is just painful to watch.
  10. I'd tune in to watch someone suing JJ. Of course, she'd also still be the judge and would promptly insult them and dismiss the case.
  11. I was surfing online while the case was playing and didn't actually look up until after the first commercial. My initial thought was that she'd forgotten to take out her rollers. Once I looked more closely, I really liked her hair too.I went natural around the first of the year. My hair is still at mini Afro length. I can't wait until it's long enough to do something that creative with it. And I won't give a damn if people like it or not! I thought she looked great. Wait. This is the JJ forum. Change that to I thought she "lookeded" great.
  12. He didn't bother me as much today. That may be because I chose to listen to Jeopardy from my deck. with a nice glass of whiskey instead of watching him genuflect. Melissa is from my hometown and shares my love of national parks, so I was rooting for her. Since I wasn't watching the screen during gameplay, I didn't see her buzzer technique. My mom called afterward to see if I saw that someone from home was on Jeopardy. She said she was worried Melissa was going to accidentally knock out the champ every time she tried to ring in.
  13. I'd like it more if they didn't feel the need to explain it to us a million times. They need to cut out a lot of the chatting.
  14. I learned today that if someone loans me money by leaving it on my bed, then I don't have to pay them back because they didn't loan me money; my bed did. That case hurt my brain.
  15. I didn't like it but will continue to watch because I love trivia shows, but it can't hold a candle to Jeopardy or The Chase, in my opinion.
  16. I've noticed that as well. But in this case, the plaintiff was clearly not all there. I feel sad for her. Anyone who would give medical records indicating the doctor thought she had mental problems obviously has them. Also, her hallterview was a bit.... Something. I thought JJ handled that case as well as she could.
  17. Yep. American Express still has them on their website. It's been at least 20 years since I've worked in a retail establishment but, when I did, they were a huge pain in the ass. I hated when people paid with them, although I understand wanting the security of them while traveling. Today's systems may be better able to handle them, but I'd almost cry if someone paid with those damn things! I' haven't watched the episodes today, but I've never heard of getting paid in Travelers Cheques. That has to be something shady.
  18. My tax refund is large every year, despite the fact that I don't have any children. I support two elderly parents by paying their rent and some of their other living expenses, so they qualify as my dependents. I also have a bunch of deductions, including mortgage interest, student loan interest, business expenses, health expenses, charitable deductions, volunteer work, etc. I have almost nothing withheld from my check, and I still end up with a big refund every year. Unlike your average JJ litigant, however, I don't spend the rest of the year borrowing money from people in anticipation of said refund!
  19. Don't forget the plethora of times he said, "Me and her..." Part of me wants to commend him for attempting to sound intelligent, but he sounded more like Oswald Bates from "In Living Color."
  20. I saw him use a whole lot of words to defend himself but not say anything at all. It must be exhausting to be with someone like that.
  21. Both of my parents are black Republicans. My father was the chairman of my hometown's Republican party. I identified as one too, until I went to college and started developing my own ideologies. I also have friends, a gay couple, who are both staunch Republicans. Truth be told, I'm more surprised when I meet gay Republicans than I am when I meet black ones. So this episode didn't resonate as much for me as some of them have. As someone said earlier, there was a time when a lot of black folks identified as Republicans. Some of them still do. There were some funny moments, but it wasn't one of the stronger episodes for me.
  22. Thanks for the info on the case. I already know I'm going to skip it. I really dislike dog cases. I'm not a dog hater, I've just never enjoyed these types of cases. For the record, I have a beagle who is only a danger to himself. He sniffs the ground the entire time we walk the neighborhood, so he has run into mailbox posts, trees, fire hydrants, and the side of a car that was not quite all the way in a neighbor's driveway. I just can't listen to any more dog bite/irresponsible pet owner cases.
  23. I'm late to this discussion since I missed all four JJ episodes yesterday, but I recently reviewed an MVR for a guy who had a violation for driving without insurance and registration, and the fine was almost $1,000. It's surprising to me how much fines can vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. I agree with you, with a fine that low, there's little incentive for people to get property insured and registered.
  24. I pulled up a few consignment shops we insure in my agency (I don't write them; I'm a construction expert.) None of the policies include bailees coverage, so I was wrong about that. To paraphrase JJ, I haven't been wrong since 1978, so that came as a surprise. It is, indeed a very different exposure from what a dry cleaner has. We are including some Property of Others coverage on the policies as a safeguard. PPO coverage is a property coverage and Bailees is a liability coverage. So having the property coverage is not presuming the shop owner is liable, but it would cover that property should the owner want to do that - perhaps for good faith. I asked our small business insurance expert about it, and she said the PPO coverage isn't necessary but nice to have. She said a smart consignment shop owner will have built into the contract that you turn over your items at your own risk and should be insuring them yourself. So thanks for the additional information and for helping to educate me on something I didn't know. I really do love this board!
