  1. If he already had an existing homeowners or renters policy, his personal property off premises would probably have been covered. That's why when you have items stolen from your car you claim them under homeowners and not under your auto policy, which only covers permanently installed equipment. So not only didn't he insure his storage shed; it sounds like he didn't insure his residence either. The policies you can buy from the storage facilities are very reasonable. The last time I had stuff in storage it was $35 a month with a $100 deductible for a $10,000 limit. I took the policy even though my homeowners would cover it because I would rather have a claim on that type of one-off policy than have one on my main homeowners policy. I think the policy also covered flood, which my homeowners does not. And the $100 deductible was $400 less than my homeowners deductible. ETA if it was business equipment, he would have had to cover that differently. My post is referring to storage spaces in general and people who won't spend a few bucks to cover their stuff.
  2. I think you guys have covered everything, but I want to chip in and agree with those who loved this episode. After The Nod it's my second favorite one of the series. I can't believe I waited to watch this until today. I don't remember what I watched last night, but it wasn't nearly as good as this was.
  3. I've noticed it a lot on both court shows I watch. It's one of those expressions that make me want to stab someone in the eye. I first started hearing it in corporate America (and still do from time to time.)
  4. I could be wrong, but I thought the step-father said he agreed not to press charges if she paid him back, but then she never paid him back. Thanks for the kind words. I spent the weekend installing an alarm system, working with the police, and fortifying their doors and windows. I spent Friday night in their home, sitting with a shotgun in case he returned.ETA: JJ signed a five year contract extension with CBS. I'm not sure if that was discussed here yet.
  5. JJ had perfect timing today. The busted by fingerprints case could have been ripped from my life over the past few days. Unfortunately, I don't have a police officer in the family and am still waiting for them to find the relative who stole a bunch of property from my elderly parents and pawned it, forcing them to come live with me out of fear he'd return and try to harm them. I was wrong about a potential JJ appearance. If my siblings and I do find that POS, the case will be featured on Nancy Grace instead of JJ, if you get my drift. Regarding the case, shame on their ungrateful daughter for stealing from them. She seemed to think it was justified because she has two kids she can't afford since she hasn't worked in a year. There may be a solution to her problem but I guess working to earn money instead of stealing from others just hasn't dawned on her. It's easier to steal what others worked hard to earn. I'm glad her step-father had her thieving ass thrown in jail, even if it did take her away from her precious snowflakes.
  6. I say this as a Tucsonan who adopted it as my hometown after going to college here: if I were the last person on earth and could live in any house in any town, Tucson wouldn't even crack my top 100. It's not even close to being the worst place in the world, but it would make no sense to live here post-apocolypse. My A/C was down for two days last summer and I was a combination of suicidal and homicidal! And it's not just that it's hot in the summer; the desert gets cold in the winter. My freaking pipes burst a couple of years ago during a cold snap. This isn't that perfect weather you get in places like San Diego or LA. Anyway, I tried the show and didn't care for either episode. I'm not a Kristin Schaal fan but I do like Will Forte. I'll probably try one more week, but I doubt this will last much longer than that on my dvr..
  7. My saga since Friday would actually make for a good JJ episode. It involves cell phones, search warrants, death threats, property damage, and a physical altercation. What more could a JJ litigant ask for?To be fair, it's nothing I created. I'm just the Olivia Pope of my family. Got a problem? Call in the fixer.
  8. I have had little to no time for JJ lately due to trying to fix a mess one of my idiot family members created, but I have to say comments like this is why I miss you guys when I'm not on the board. This is one of the funniest things I've read in a while and gave me a much-needed laugh during a very stressful time. Thank you!
  9. It wasn't at her home. He got her thrown out of the business where she used to park her hot dog cart and sell in front of. He called their corporate headquarters and got her thrown out.
  10. I loved this episode and also think it was firing on all cylinders. There aren't any characters on the show I dislike, so it's hard for there to be a bad episode from my viewpoint. If I had to pick my least favorite character, it would probably be Charles, but he doesn't even really bother me. (I think I still harbor a little resentment toward him for putting on Dre's Jordans, which is a huge no-no in my book.) This episode had so many repeatable lines that I am going to re-watch it just so I can memorize some of them. Junior's insult to Dre about parting his teeth had me howling. Little Diane is absolutely hilarious. The whole subplot with her and Bow was really well done. I grew up in a black household with four siblings, so I could completely relate to the insults flying back and forth. I remember the first time my now-ex girlfriend met my family. She asked me afterward if we even liked each other. She was an only child and had no idea how siblings talk to each other. It didn't take her long to realize there's actually a lot of love behind the teasing. ETA another one I just remembered: "Guys, I've got bad news" "Kim Kardashian stopped messing with black guys?" "Worse." "Zoe Saldana stopped messing with white guys?"
  11. Maybe the barber of bumvile and his beloved would have more money for housing if the stopped spending money on tattoos. Why is it that so often we see litigants who are struggling but they always seem to have money for tattoos?
  12. She was a lesser of evils for me; I really didn't like any of the contestants. Dava-Leigh is okay, but I'm not a fan of editorializing by contestants. When she told Alex she knew about transitive verbs because she used to teach English, I wondered who asked her that.
  13. I am now on a mission to find a kickball league to join. That sounds like a lot of fun, especially if it involves adult beverages. Let's just hope I don't end up on Judge Judy for my efforts. I can't even believe the defendant thought using the dues to hold a memorial party (?) was a good idea. My heart does go out to her for what she's been through. Parents should not have to bury their children. But she's still wrong. Today's second episode featured two dog cases. Are you shitting me? I think JJ is just trolling me at this point. Remember when Judge Wapner had an animal court show on Animal Planet? Sometimes JJ reminds me of that. Anyway, the defendant in the dog case had some seriously jacked up teeth. Is that what meth does?
  14. This episode was new to me as well. Byrd definitely stopped the litigants from coming to blows. There was an additional security person who ran in as well.
  15. JJ made the point that fish and visitors stink after three days. Truer words have never been spoken. I'm one of those people who lives alone in a big house, so relatives always want to stay with me when they come to visit (and when you're from a cold place like PA and move to a warm place like AZ, people will want to visit you all winter long). It's usually fun for a few days, and then I remember there's a reason I live alone, and I can't wait for everybody to get the hell out of my house. Also, I only do that for relatives; there's no way in the world I'd let a sibling of someone I'm dating move into my house. Who does that? And then she bought them a truck? Good grief.
  16. I could barely follow the second case, so I can't comment on it, but that first case made me appreciate living in an unfriendly, impersonal suburb. I don't know any of my neighbors by name, although I will wave hello at my mailbox or while pulling out of my garage, and that's exactly the way I want it. I can't even imagine living next to that insane plaintiff. He didn't just expect the defendant to pay to move a fence on his property, he ensured she couldn't continue running her hot dog cart from where she was working. Who does that? The fact that he submitted video evidence that hurt his case shows he's completely oblivious to how much of a lunatic he is.
  17. I'm not sure why I'm still watching. I've hated this entire story arc. I think I'm hopeful that Shonda and her team will pay attention to the viewers' reactions on social media and right this ship. I'm actually missing Liv being a fixer for someone different every week. I don't want the show to be canceled, since no one forces me to watch it. But I do wish it'd return to the Scandal I knew and loved. I don't even recognize this mess. And Papa Pope needs to shut the fuck up. I was hoping an alligator or something would come up the bank and eat him just to shut up his bloviating ass.
  18. My issue with JJ is always consistency. If that's how she consistently ruled, I'd be fine with it. But with JJ, her mood seems to matter more than anything else. You don't have to dislike a litigant for them to be correct, but JJ sometimes can't separate the two. The woman got full value because she was calm, articulate, and prepared. If she were our typical litigant, JJ would have shouted at her and called her a hustla for asking for $300 for a year-old blanket, awarded her about a buck-fifty and thrown her out on her tuckus.
  19. It looks like I can skip JJ today. None of these cases seem remotely intriguing.
  20. I actually had the exact same thought. Jeopardy also has a bizarre ability to ask about someone shortly after their death, even when the episode is taped before that person dies. I can't think of specific examples, but it's happened frequently enough that I know it's a thing.
  21. I should have clarified that I actually loved her hair. I went natural as my New Year's Resolution (trying to get away from all that chemical processing), and I'm quite thrilled with it. My hair is only about an inch long right now, since we had to cut out all the relaxed part, and I couldn't be happier. My plan is to get it to Viola Davis-like proportions; I'm not sure I'd want it as big as the plaintiff's was, but I certainly liked it.
  22. I record JJ at home. I've tried to get her to change her schedule to conform with my workout time, but so far she hasn't been inclined to to so.Today's first episode included some boring case about an investment in a cupcake business. The investor was an attorney, so JJ of course made him look like an idiot. She also proclaimed the defendants to be hustlers, since they used a portion of the investment to pay their rent and buy a computer. One gavel for me. Then we had a comforter case. A lady took her comforter to a dry cleaner. They lost it. The most interesting thing for me in that case was that JJ said they hadn't had a dry cleaning case in over a decade. Considering how often The People's Court has dry cleaning cases, that surprised me. But I actually can't remember seeing a dry cleaning case on JJ. I don't understand why JJ awarded full replacement cost for a year-old comforter, but that's what she did. One gavel for me. In the second episode, we had someone who actually fell for the work from home scam in which they send you checks to cash and you cash them and send the money back. These were some well-disguised idiots. I can't believe any of them fell for this. Why would a company need you to cash checks for them? It makes no sense. The person who solicited the person for the job claimed to be a representative of the company had a gmail address. JJ asked one of the defendants if she graduated from elementary school. She claimed she did, but I'm not so sure. We also learned that JJ doesn't speak Spanish or Thai. Two gavels, and I'm being generous. By the way, JJ gave the plaintiff a pass, which I wouldn't have done. It was really stupid of her to agree to cash these checks. In the second case,we had a litigant with the biggest hair I've ever seen. Seriously, her hair took up my entire tv screen. The big-haired plaintiff was trying to re-home a dog. The price was $450, but the defendant only paid $200. The defendant didn't pay because, "she didn't give me no papers." He even signed an agreement to do so. Their contract didn't mention papers, so JJ awarded the plaintiff the balance. One gavel for the case, and half a gavel for the plaintiff's awesome hair. Those of you who didn't get JJ today can rest easy that you didn't miss much.
  23. This was probably my least favorite episode so far. I just couldn't buy any of it. Yes, I know it's a TV show, but her boss would have had to be the dumbest person on the planet to not realize what was going on. This one was a big swing and a miss for me.
  24. I think she said it was a new car, but some people refer to old cars as new cars if the car is new to them. So I'm not positive about that detail. Oh, no! How am I going to know if I should stay in and watch JJ after work or go to the gym?!
  25. I only know New Hampshire doesn't require it because JJ had a litigant on from there and was arguing with the litigant about it. You know JJ knows everything, so she didn't believe the litigant! I tell my clients that checking their clue report after an accident is a really good idea. It's important to make sure if you're not at fault your record accurately reflects that. What happens with a lot of insureds is they stay with the same carrier, and if the rate increase is only minor they may never even know they're being charged. Also, I've posted this before but I think it is worth repeating. If you do have a claim, regardless of fault, and you were previously getting a claim-free discount or a disappearing deductible, you may lose that discount. That happened to me, and I fought for months to get my discount back and lost. I don't know if every carrier does it, but it's something to be aware of.
