This English major also bombed in that category. I didn't even get "tone" correct. I thought it was a good game, but I thought the weakest of the three won. I was rooting for Tara.

A car Keurig! That's the funniest thing I've read all day! Good gravy, that babysitter was a piece of work. Actually, she was a piece of something else, but I think JJ already called her something similar. Much like Pat Bean, she made me wonder who these people are who have so much time on their hands. Even in the unlikely event that she's not boinking the absent piece of shit father of the twins, why is she all up in their divorce? He's clearly telling her horrible things about his estranged wife, and she's believing all of it. Personally, I don't trust anyone who dogs out their ex that much. She just married him for papers but then had twins with him? Yeah, right. Someone upthread said the babysitter should get her own man. I'm fine with her having this one, and I suspect the estranged wife is too. He sounds like a real prince. Let me bring my side piece along for the custody exchange and then encourage her to call CPS on the mother of my children. I think the wife is upset because the side piece is trying to step into her place as a mother. I don't think she misses being a wife to him at all. She really should have pursued the restraining order against the babysitter. At least then the babysitter wouldn't show up to the child exchanges. And, as usual, the piece of crap man never shows up for court to get his much-deserved JJ beat down.

My JJ broadcast has moved from 6:00 and 6:30 pm to 12 pm and 5 pm, which is just weird. At least they'll already be on my DVR when I get home from work now.

Annoying is an understatement. I'm no luddite. I have a cell phone, and I share JJ's disdain for them. I really miss the days of people not being able to reach me so readily. My boss actually asked me why I don't link up my cell to my work e-mail, and I said because it's my personal cell phone. If he wants me to have a business phone, he can pay for one. But even then, when I leave work I'm finished working for the day. So it would be useless for him to get me one. These companies want 24-hour-a-day employees. That's never going to be me. I work to live, not the other way around! I have coworkers who are linked in liked that. Then they'll come to me and complain that they had to do something at 9:00 at night. Their clients are so used to them being available all the time that they now expect it. My clients know that you will not reach me after 6 pm, on weekends, or on holidays. So they don't even try. It can freaking wait. And don't even get me started on people who can't even put the phone away long enough to have a conversation at dinner, sit through a movie, or drive their car. SO MUCH HATE. I've just re-entered the dating market. I was on a date with a woman my age (early 40s). We were having dinner at a restaurant. She kept taking out her phone to text whoever the hell she was texting. So I took my plate and moved to another table. When she questioned me, I told her she'd obviously rather have dinner with whoever was on her phone, so she should continue do that. I'd rather eat alone. Needless to say, we didn't go out again. I'd expect that from a 20 year old, not from someone our age. Sorry for the JJ-style rant. I'm really starting to hate cell phones. Maybe I'm becoming a crotchety old bat like Ms. Pat is.

I'm enjoying the new episodes, too. MM has had a parade of crazy characters this week. The case with the 77 times arrested father made me cry. When the daughter was describing the abuse her mother suffered and how she took the photos of the bruises when she was 10 years old just slayed me. MM is right; if that girl is looking for love from her father, she's going to be disappointed her whole life. Some people are just shitty parents, and if yours are, then you need to let them go and find your happiness elsewhere. I sensed that the son understood that better, although he was no peach, either.

I'm far from an expert, being a woman with no children by choice, but it seems to me it would be easier to get a job instead of being a professional baby mama. Aren't kids a lot of work? For as much as I complain about my job, I wouldn't trade places with her. I don't understand people who don't want to have their own. If one of her baby daddies loses a job, how is she going to collect that check? With the loser in this case, she also has to worry about him getting locked up, since he has drug issues. I don't get it. And for as much disdain as I have for her, she's found three dudes who were stupid enough to go near her without at least a condom. If they weren't worried about being tied to someone they'd known for five minutes and on the hook for support for at least 18 years, were they not even remotely worried about an STD? I mean there are three guys she hooked up with and got knocked up by. Statistically speaking, it's safe to assume they're not the only three guys she's been with. And without protection. Gross.

Yeah, I mentioned that in my post. She can't be good for the granddaughter.
-
A hypocritical Bible thumper? Now I've seen everything. /sarcasm I was surprised that Pat seems to be close to her granddaughter. Someone who spews that much vitriol is usually also a bigot, regardless of their race. So good on her, I guess, for not disowning baby Jill Scott. Of course, she was going to have that child lie for her. She's really a shitty, bitter human being. I don't know how much time the granddaughter spends with her, but I see a therapist or at least a return to JJ as a litigant in Baby Jill Scott's future. I feel for her. Baby Jill's hair made me think of an old Wanda Sykes bit in which she explains why she wanted her kids to be white, like her wife is. She said that since her wife is much younger than she is, she would probably die first and didn't want her children to have no one around who could do their hair. She said her wife would have to drive through the hood with her window open and stick the child's head out the window so someone would do her hair. Anyway... That case had it all! The only thing that would have made it better would have been if the plaintiff had accepted Pat's challenge to fight and someone had caught it on video. I feel sorry for that plaintiff. I have excellent neighbors, and I can't imagine living next to someone like Pat. One of us would be in the grave, and the other would be in jail. Why would anyone spend that much time caring about a neighbor's finances, or that they got a family plan for a cell phone, or how many men they've bedded? Pat needs to get a life. And add me to the list of people who wanted to hear the tape. JJ let us down with that one.

Can't wait. I'll watch that one first when I get home tonight. Thanks for the heads-up!

I just got back from a vacation at the shore and am dreading going back to work tomorrow. It's the kind of mood that makes me envy the JJ litigants who manage to get through life without ever holding down a 9 to 5. Seeing a Toaster recap immediately improved my mood. I haven't seen any cases yet, but thank you for giving me this so I can look forward to them!
-
You all have picked over everything in the case of the kept drama girl, I think. So I'll just add a thank you for a much-needed laugh. I've been crazy busy at work and am behind on my JJ viewing. But I logged on, saw you all discussing new episodes and, in particular, this one. I knew I just had to watch it. So I did, and it did not disappoint. Neither did the garage/fence case, which I also watched. I don't know what Thermos or whatever her name is was on, but that hallterview was epic. They should have cut the case short by about 10 minutes, and extended her hallterview. I, for one, definitely wanted to hear more.

Agreed 100%. SVU does this as well. We know they're not going to kill off Maura, any more than SVU is going to kill off Olivia Benson.
-
Nailed it! Thank you for succinctly describing her in the most accurate way possible. That look has been bothering me since the first airing of that case.
-
I realized while watching this that, although I'd do fine in the regular rounds, I'd probably get slayed in the final. While I recognized the celebrity names, I don't know who's married to whom, most singers after the year 2000, and who's been in most recent films. I think the female contestant may have had the same issues if she'd made it to the final.
-
That case had one of my favorite non-words ever by a litigant: alterfication. My friends and I had a good time with this case the first time it aired. Alterfication is still a word we throw around when we're teasing each other. "Don't make me start no alterfication with you!" (We have to include the horrible grammar for the full effect.) I did not understand the plaintiff's outfit at all. I'm not sure what look she was going for. I don't usually notice litigants' clothing, but I definitely noticed hers. I was so thrilled when MM sent both of their lying asses home.

I just saw this online and thought I'd share, although I think we already knew all of this. http://wgntv.com/2015/08/21/this-letter-from-judge-judy-finally-explains-how-they-get-people-to-appear-on-tv/

I watched a few episodes last night and finally just deleted all the reruns from the past month from my DVR (they've been piling up for a while.) I just couldn't take the awful grammar any longer. Has JJ just given up on trying to correct litigants' grammar?

I have a coworker who laughs uncontrollably when she gets nervous. So when our boss was bitching at her about something, she was in stitches.I felt bad for her, but it was one if the funniest things I've ever seen. He had no idea how to handle her reaction. He also hasn't yelled at her since, so that's a plus.
-
JJ definitely doesn't know what it's like to be poor. But, in her defense, she deals with a high percentage of people who are scam artists who are just full of bad decisions. After a while, I think all her litigants look like "hustlas" to her. I've posted on here several times that one thing JJ does that bothers me is insists that people can just move at the drop of a hat. I agree with you that it's unreasonable to think everyone can just do that. When she starts screaming, "A-Move!," I turn her off. I feel the same way about her "My America" comments. But I keep watching because, more often than not, I agree with her. Some people really need the smackdowns she gives them.

The Jim Gaffigan Show - General Discussion
teebax replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Jim Gaffigan Show
I'm out, too. My brother texted me after the first episode, which I still haven't seen, to tell me how greet this show is. I've watched the last two, and I just can't watch another. It's terrible. The acting is awful. The writing is bad. And the food thing is completely over the top. I know that's Jim's act, but he's a much better comedian than this show allows him to be. -
It's funny that you and I posted about her name at the same time. Taras unite!
-
I was rooting for her because we share a first name. There aren't many people named Tara on Jeopardy, so I got ridiculously excited to see a Tara in the show. Yes, those are the stupid types of things that make me cheer for a contestant. Thank goodness she didn't break any of my thousands of unspoken rules that make me dislike a contestant. If she had, I'd have had quite the dilemma.
-
Not soon enough, although they've been picking good ones for the repeats. Absolutely. I have no idea what he was thinking. Regardless of his size, there are way too many crazies out there to be running around confronting everyone who breaks the rules. He came off like a complete jackass, and I think JJ said something to that effect. I recently read about a road rage case in which a driver got pissed off at driver and followed him home. Well, the dude who'd been followed home shot the pursuer to death. There are very few things out there that are more important to me than my life. If someone is doing the wrong thing, you can report them and move on.

I'm the opposite. Baseball is one of those categories that could get me in trouble since it's probably the subject about which I know the most. I'd be one of those contestants who'd wager everything regardless of the situation if that category came up for a DD or FJ. If I got it wrong, you'd all be talking about (rightfully so) my terrible wagering skills. If I got it right, Alex would inevitably make some stupid comment about me being a female who has the audacity to know anything about sports.
