I can understand why Luke, someone who is very impulsive and lets emotions guide him, and also who had less than a year of Jedi training might not be successful in restoring the Jedi order. And if he's in the throws of some self-imposed banishment, because, hey, that's what Yoda and Obi Wan did when they fucked up, I can understand why people Rey and Finn's age wouldn't quite know the full story. Because to most of the rebellion, Luke wasn't a Jedi. He was a farm kid who was a pretty great pilot, and, okay, he got a little weird towards the end, but war's tough man. Only Han, Leia, and Lando (and the rest of the falcon crew) really saw the Jedi Knight side of Luke, and they would hold onto his secret if that's what he wanted. My issue is that it feels like A New Hope all over again with Rey and Finn stepping into Luke's shoes, and Han Solo, remarkably taking on Obi Wan's task (I actually love this, it's absolutely perfect. HAN SOLO IS LEADING A GROUP OF KIDS ON A BLIND MISSION INTO THE FORCE! That is the most stunning character development I've ever seen.) I feel like there should be a new story to tell, but instead, it looks like we might be we're hearing the same story all over again. Well except for Darth Vader.

S41.E03: Tracy Morgan / Demi Lovato
absnow54 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Saturday Night Live
I was pleasantly surprised that Tracy handled the show on his own. I figured with the first cameo by Alec Baldwin, and then the rest of the 30 Rock crew showing up, that they'd be supporting hosts, but Tracy was on fire last night. So glad to see he's doing well. The Jackie Chan sketch was one of the funniest sketches this show's had in years. I died when they took out their notebook to take down Leslie Jone's 18 year old clue. -
The resolution to this story line is going to be tedious, I can tell. I think the exploration is a little premature, since Riley and Lucas have spent much of the season forgetting they were kind of-sort of-dating, and Lucas and Maya only have their antagonistic flirting to go off of. It sort of felt like they jumped the shark on the whole thing, and therefore spent a lot of time trying to talk the audience into the choices they were making (it's a kid's show, I know. Why do I care?) I also disliked the conversation between Riley and Maya about their relationship with Lucas, and that Maya's talking him down is a negative thing. Riley's blind optimism and support, led him into a bull riding competition he was largely unprepared for, where he could have been seriously hurt. Making someone feel bad about themselves is a negative thing, I agree, but Maya brings skepticism, which can be just as valuable as Riley's can do attitude. Blech, I just hated the idea that someone had to be paired with Lucas, or else. The three of them were obviously not comfortable with it, and Riley feeling obligated to date Charlie was brutal, like I wanted to jump into my computer to rescue her. It seemed like she was preparing for a prison sentence. Charlie, get some chill!

S01.E01: Josh Just Happens To Live Here
absnow54 replied to Tara Ariano's topic in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend [V]
"Sexy Getting Ready" song was so reminiscent of a "Flight of the Concords" number, I fell completely and helplessly in love. Especially when the rapper came in and was like no. can't do it. I love Santino Fontana, and Greg is sweet and adorable. I'm definitely checking in again next week. -
S41.E02: Amy Schumer / The Weeknd

I feel like there's a pretty good chance that Jennifer Lawrence will show up too, since they're desperate to let everyone know that they're bestest PR friends. -
I agree that Dylan has a bright future, but I think calling him the biggest male star of his generation is a stretch. He's in the same age bracket as Logan Lerman, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth, and if you stretch the range, would include people like Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan. I think Dylan O'Brien has potential, but I think he's in the early stages of breaking into the industry.

It's astonishing how much disconnect there is between the books and the movies. The first one was pretty faithful, but I can't place any of the scenes from the trailer. What are the flying disk things?
-
I think renaming Part 2 is a smart idea. Burn as many bridges from the source material as they can. It still doesn't trump what an awful idea splitting the book up was in the first place.
-
I really enjoyed this movie and am sad that it is performing so poorly at the Box Office. I thought the cast was perfect and the chemistry between the three leads was great. I hope this gets enough word of mouth buzz to garner a sequel, but I'm not optimistic.

I don't know, given her positioning between a Jedi and a Sith while holding a weapon that mirrors the light sabers surrounding her, I'd be very surprised if she wasn't a prominent player on Team Force.

I actually feel like Charlie Rowe is better suited to play The Colonel (*wipes away single tear that Josh Hutcherson isn't on that short list*) but since I watched a few minutes of that Descendants movie on Disney, please, not this Mitchell Hope guy. He basically played a grinning block of wood.

The voice is actually Samm Levine from Freaks and Geeks.

I think the wording was just confusing. In 1991, Elizabeth Banks at 17 was old enough to have a child, who today would be 24. My first thought when reading your post was that Elizabeth Banks was in her 60's because one of her kids was 24 in 1991.

Unless you could identify a song and artist without even thinking about it (REO Speedwagon, for example) the song was probably an original. They really nailed the 80's music. Heart Attack sounded like it could have been a Pat Benatar song.

Could Rachel's mother be granted conservatorship over her if Jeremy gives the video of her breakdown to a judge?
-
There are two rooms in a confessional, one side for the priest and one for the confessor, so Anna would be able to hear the conversation clear as day through the perforated wall. Wasn't there a gag where Adam pointed out that he wasn't the prince of anything, and Rachel hand waved that "nobody cares, it's fake."
-
Given the game they seemed to be playing, I think Adam knew that Rachel would fold and watch the monitor. I felt like he was very clearly manipulating her to call her bluff that she didn't care about him, which is why he went to "their spot" (where they first met) to pitch his "Let's run away" idea right after.
-
I thought Adam had sex with Anna because he knew Rachel was watching. We know he usually covers up the camera (to some ineffective degree) when he's hooking up with someone, and in this episode he was purposely trying to rile Rachel up by flaunting the future Rachel wanted (saving African AIDs babies) as something he could provide for Anna.
-
I also love that when Victor removed the pot he asked "Was he here?" as if the pot shielded him entirely from the room.

I was almost disappointed that "Day 2" wasn't also the last day of camp, especially when it opened the same as the movie with the boys sneaking out of the girls' bunks. I think it would have fit into the humor of the show that the entire time, it was just a weekend camp that was densely packed with action in those two single days, but it does open the possibility to more seasons with extraneous guest stars that appear and disappear before the end.
