I agree and the pastor's "comedy" routine was bad too. This was an episode that was reaching everywhere to have a story and all of it failed badly.

If I hear about Jo's damn car again, I want to find it in the junkyard and run her over with it. Maybe then she will stop putting in her *fill in the blanks* this week on her tough life and untouchable abusive husband and actually say what the DAMN story really is. Since it changes every other episode.

Original Flavor Season Talk: Dinner at Rodbell's
readster replied to Rhondinella's topic in Roseanne [V]
I love that song. One of my favorites when Jackie announced she was pregnant while he was sitting in the bathroom: "Wow!" "Good thing I was sitting down." -
Not only are they out of ideas, but they are trying to rewrite history or characters to make the plots work. I agree, I can see another season happening, but the show has run out of steam.

Meredith: "You don't understand, Nathan, he's my friend. Nathan: *pause* "So was I."

I don't know how to feel about this episode. It had some funny moments, but the troupe of: "Kids don't go to church." is just tired. Eve and Mandy are old enough to make their own decisions, but it was only 2 seasons ago, they had no problem going to church and Ryan has constantly been shown to be anti-church since season 2. So, Kristin and Boyd just magically going to church after Ryan apologize for bashing her on his podcast was just out of place. Here is another thing, the podcast was just... odd. As someone who hosted one for almost two years, been a guest star on several and heard some pretty weird ones. How Kristin continues to support Ryan's dumbass things and though process, including buying him his equipment. I can't believe she didn't know what his podcast was about. I mean her response: "I thought it was about superheroes." Ok, it's called Vegans and Villains, so what do you think this about? Most likely how to be vegan and people who don't believe in it. However, this just proved how much of an asshole Ryan is. Let's face it, we all have spouses that have traits or do things that make us want to quietly talk about with our friends or other family members. However, that was too much. If my wife would have said those things I would have taken that mic and equipment and sold it off. Here was another thing. The prop person really doesn't know how to make recording equipment look realistic. He had a sound board with no USB hook up and trying to make it look like a combo of radio and computer. Because that was another thing, where were those headphones plugged into? Look Eve can sing again, and is good and so is Mandy. Wasn't she horrible just a few weeks ago? Hey, Boyd exists!

They also whine about things constantly and then you add in they laugh when Claire gets hurt or when she makes a mistakes. I mean these are a bunch of the worst employees I have ever seen on TV. I mean, when Gloria finally told them off and that she did the entire spa for her with her own money. I mean they immediately were: "Claire doesn't care about us, she spends money on herself."
-
The problem is, everyone at the company acts like complete idiots who are looking to blame Claire for anything. Because you know "Jay was the best boss ever, Claire, we hate you!" I agree, it is a comedy, so they have to stretch credibility, but really. I was happy when Gloria tore into them to shut up and get over it. She has known them for years and they are all whiners.

That's the problem with the show right now. They are acting like Westport is this void of logical thinking, everyone is stuck up or very gullible and the basic concepts of life can't apply. The entire thing with Greg having problems making friends or having those with similar interests doesn't make sense when there are these many people. Similar to how Katie keeps telling Greg the stuff he is doing in town no one cares about or wants to do. I mean, come on. Those positions wouldn't exist if they weren't needed, I can see someone dying and the spots on town councils and societies being left empty as a result. But that is too much. Same goes with the lawn furnature, I mean really, she couldn't find those elsewhere, she had to steel them?

Exactly, the dumbing down of Vanessa to Kyle to even Kristin has been too much. It's amazing they know how to get dressed in the morning. I'm sorry, I know it's paying her bills, but why hasn't Nancy Travis said: "This is too much, how did this woman ever get through college? That was right up there with Eve playing on the streets and going from very talented singer to: "I'm so bad, even I know it, time to get over myself" I mean an exploding dye pack? They also acted like they couldn't see the Library from their house, Eve couldn't have set up a spy camera, which we know that Mike has lying around and has used in several episodes? I agree, even with the recasting, get over it already. Just like how they kept making fun of Vanessa for enjoying books. They act like "books? What are those?" Plus, they have cut down on the budget so much, that the actor playing Boyd isn't used much anymore. James Mastersen is too busy with other projects and his sciencetology stuff, so he isn't on much either. Plus, it has been pretty much stated, they hate Ryan so much, they have cut down on his screen time just as much as Boyd. They don't get rid of Kristin since she part of the 3 sisters, so they have to keep her on. Even when all her stories just make no sense and are horrible.
-
I know I mean all the characters are just aimless now. Eve finally getting a clue and trying for the air force now was probably the best story and acting between her and Vanessa in years. However, to get her there they had to have it where Eve didn't have half a brain and that life was over because she didn't get into Westpoint and Kristin is even stupider than Ryan now.

Madison was an example of the writers enjoying the character more than the fans or how the stories functioned. They also had this horrible time rewriting her history to make us feel "sorry for her". Remember, she had a father who left her, a over religious mother and can't tell her former boyfriend or Ephram about not wanting to be with them, they are pregnant. Then magically she has a brother in New York after her roommate who did know she was pregnant say she was an only child. Plus, she was going to be a teacher, but only being in a rock band was going to get her out of the void that was Everwood. It became too much, similar to Bright and Ephram's old roommate, they had him signed up for 10 episodes and had a story planned, but they were busy with trying to get the show post baby drama out of the ground. So, the excuse was: "Keep his shirtless" to fulfil the contract and they his story was over in 2 episodes with a mentally handicap brother, cheating on medical tests and drugs and then *poof* he was gone. The show's other fault was trying to bring back stories that everyone wanted dead and buried. Like the alternate ending if they had come back for a season 5, with Madison returning with the baby in tow and Hannah wanting to date Ephram seeing him being a guy who can handle "drama" and her mother apparently showing back up after not wanting to deal with anything after Hannah's dad died and her brother was going to be revealed to have the same disease.

The secret Anti-government guy was too much. At first, I thought the essay contest was opened to like teens or college students. The storyline went very south. In a way, I thought they were trying to explain that Mike's constant political views had come back to haunt him, but it was just painful. I would have liked Vanessa's storyline a bit more if 1. the girls would have not been calling their mother basically a loser for enjoying books and liking the Free Little Library (which is what it really is called) 2. They haven't spent the last year with having Carol off camera (she was cast in another show) and now she apparently moved to California for a new job and not have Chuck go with her and Chuck not really caring and Vanessa upset because she has no friends. Ok, Vanessa is a loser has been too much the last couple of years. She quits her job because Ryan and Eve's classmates were idiots on how her job worked. Then they have to say that teaching has been her lifelong dream, yet they didn't know how to write that so they had her get "laid off" but they couldn't tell her, because Clare was her friend. Then she can't get a professor or college job because she is "too old" and doesn't use twitter. So, they have her as a tutor for former students who just magically go to Outdoor Man. Ummm... too much. Plus, Eve a paint bomb where most likely you would ruin all the other books and the library? Where did you think that would work, or use an alarm when the book was grabbed. Plus, Ryan: "You like neuro science, FRIEND!" When has Ryan ever expressed that he liked that stuff. He get's upset if someone says: "I believe in God."

That's the thing, Minnick's profession and being in charged of the teaching program MAKES NO SENSE! Of course she hasn't lost any patients before. She has worked in a field where unless she is messing around with major arteries, she has been more worried about bones, joints, ligaments. Yet they had her come in nicking hearts, veins, ect to teach doctors better. Catherine and Bailey's big idea was she was great because of her bull in a china shop attitude and having ZERO fatalities or loses. That right there is a red flag no matter what field you are in. Trust me, people can have almost perfect records, but still have faults. Because let's face it we know that as doctors and surgeons themselves, both Bailey and Catherine have LOST patients. We've seen it, we have seen them go in panic mode when they can't save them. Even kids. Here, Minnick has never seen that and has her higher than though attitude and what happens when a kid dies, and completely shatters another doctor who work doing surgery in SOMETHING NOT IN HER FIELD. It went out of the door. How should everything go down? Minnick is removed as head, they all come together on the board and figure out what the hell has happened and how to fix their program. But no! Instead they have it where Catherine and Bailey are doing everything, Jackson is too caught up in his problems with April, Meredith and Alex are complaining about how life is unfair and Owen and Amelia are being completely stupid about things. So, problems with the teaching program at the hospital? What problems? DRAMA!

I agree. My brother-in-law last year found a wasp nest four times that size in his basement. He immediately called in the professionals. He said himself: "There is a small softball size and then there is the size of a couch." Another thing that bothered me was Cam's allergic reaction. He must have developed a new allergy to stings if he swelled up that much after just 15 minutes. Of course mud isn't the cure, baking soda paste is and considering Cam's cooking skills. That would have been the better choice. Claire's bad cook? Since when? In fact, there has been raves about her cooking over the years. So, once again, plot drives character.

The Quotes Topic: "You may call her Bev... or Sea Hag!"
readster replied to Elizabeth9's topic in Roseanne [V]
That episode really was on all points with teenage drinking, Darlene's reaction and Sara's awesome timing. I even like the end when Dan is putting the lock on the cabinet and Roseanne saying: "It's a long tradition that finally came here." -
Oh you know it's going to backfire on both Bailey and Catherine. The stupidity of why Catherine thinks this would be the be all, end all answer to the hospital's teaching problems and Bailey acting like she has a gun to her head. I'm pretty sure it will all end with Bailey out of the chief position, Meredith getting the job and Catherine on the outs with everyone else.
-
It's like the show just wants to say: "You know when you worked at a fast food place and someone was put in charge, who had less experience and was hired much later than anyone else!" "Surprise, they are your boss now!" Sadly, been there, but April in charge makes even less sense when it has been shown: 1. She can't do it before. 2. She falls apart when things get too complicated. We know April got much better after going off to war, but still to now be chief of General Surgery because Meredith dared to question the stupidity of both Bailey and to the fact, Catherine. Makes very little sense.

I have to agree, I mean my niece has the name: "Emma" extremely common, especially after the birth of the character on friends. However, I work with kids all the time with names I can't pronounce half the time or ones where I want to go: "Really, after that movie character?" So, yeah, I see where everyone is coming from. Some days I just want to go: "You were going with so different or show such an uncommon name, you went too far."
-
I think the writers really don't know how to really write relationships for any of the kids. I mean, while I'm happy that they have ended Haley's relationship, once again: "Let's just bring Dylan back, that is always funny." Until they don't know what to do with Dylan and then have him come across as too stupid to tie his shoes. Alex's story line was actually pretty good with Claire's assistant, however let's see how long this works, as we know it will soon be: "Alex is so desperate she'll date anyone troupe." As for Manny's situation, I mean, come on! You had your shot Manny, stop being a dumbass. I was cracking up at Jay and Gloria's story line with Joe, that was great. Phil and Claire's story line was great. As for Sal, I was actually hoping she would fall in and be gone forever. I HATE her character since day 1. She constantly just derails everyone when it comes to Cam and Mitch. It's always when they have something planned. I'm surprised they don't have a sign outside their door that says: "Sal, we aren't home, don't even bother looking in the window, we have some US time. GO someplace else."
-
How true. I could so see Ryan doing: "It's evil money." Instead of: "Well, I put some in a trust fund for Boyd for college." "I decided to just pay off our mortgage and give the rest away." That way he finds the good from it and then Mike would be: "Guess he is finally thinking." However, they have no plan to go there and I doubt we will see it before the season ends (April is the target date). Also, it is unknown if LMS gets another season, ratings are a bit down and you can tell the show's creative teams are running out of storylines and relying too much on: "plot drives character not the other way around."

As I said, that's where the writing went too far. Can I get Ed not liking Eve's style? Sure, this is a guy who can't tell Kyle: "It's my ex's dog who hated me since day one and I hated him. Just go put him down because he's dying and I'm ready to be free of it." But oh no, he had to make it like it was a big deal instead of opening his mouth. Here with Eve, it was magically she realized she as horrible and listen, she plays the harmonica really bad, so Ed and everyone else is right. Similar to how Kristin tried stepping in when Eve wanted to finally go to school and the air force and she was all: "oh no, you don't need to go to college." "Just be like me and have mom and dad give you everything and then act like the moron who knocked you up that you married who couldn't find a job if his dad before he died left him his business." Speaking of which, that is another big plot hole, if Ryan's father was some big corporate guy, wouldn't he have gotten a share from his death? Being the only child and the fact his parents were still married at the time of his death? Because then at least you could see why he only just home school Boyd, because he got say a $35K payout. But oh no, remember, Ryan = dumb ass liberal who can run out of his pregnant girlfriend, but knows how to save the planet and can crochet but not fix a device. But hey, he can cook because he's a new age hippy.

The way it is looking, I'm wondering if they are setting things up to have Minnick's teaching practice backfire on her and the hospital. If she did her whole: "Opps, I nicked something to teach my younger doctors how to do something." The patient ends up dying and so forth and being obvious she did it on purpose. That would not only be a grounds for a lawsuit but also cost her, her license. Then it would look back on Bailey and Catherine because they put this kind of person in charge of the program. Of course, I'm reading too much into it like Genea Davis character with the brain tumor. How we were all waiting for her to complete botch or have a seizure and then Owen and Arizona looking like idiots letting her continue to practice when she could hemorrhage or die at any time, but hey, they did it because: "She was incredible and had to pass her knowledge on."
-
In the real world yes. Because there would be a doctor employee portal. She would go to the address, login with her number and ID. It would ask if it was a work computer or outside (since of HIPPA and security reasons). Office computers would have a sign in screen only, but would be imaged to know they are in the hospital on that set wifi or connected interface (google it) if you are not an IT like me. Real simple Bailey to open her big mouth about Catherine wanting all this. Then both Richard and Jackson going: "Show me the real reason why you think it is the teaching. Because these doctors over the last 20 years have doing this, this and this. However, one who were hired who weren't trained here did this, this and this and those hired by those said doctors were the ones under performing. So, it would mean the screening process of those doctors, not the ones groomed by the main teaching staff over the last decade or so. Instead they say nothing, Catherine tells them they are the problem, but it's her husband and son. So, she brings in this women who is All That and a Bag of chips and she super bitch, but hey, she is a good teacher right? Because the senior attendings and interns are going: "What the hell are you doing?"

This was probably the best episode of the season. Eve decided to finally move on that she didn't get into Westpoint, but she can still do what she wanted to do years. The problem was, Eve's music situation was wrapped up way too fast with: "She is bad, even she knows it." "Ok, I guess I will finally stop moping around for the last year and get my ass to college/military." Been a problem for the LMS writers for a while, they just can't get it a satisfying conclusion. Just Ed says: "She's horrible. Kick her out." Then Eve going: "Yep, you are right, I do suck even though an episode ago I wanted $1K in audio because previous episodes I was AWESOME!" Everything with Vanessa's fears and everything, so very on point, but Kristin... oh why? Amanda Fuller is just bad, her timing, her delivery, I can't find her funny, just painful. Who ever thought she was great for the show 4 years ago I hope was fired? After Grey's , CSI and a few other shows, she did dramas, DRAMAS! Some actors can transition great between genres and some just can't. When LMS does end, I hope Fuller goes nowhere near a sitcom again.
