Ten things to remember about the Stark children Vs the Lannisters; They are children - even Jon Snow is only about 17ish. They were brought up with their parents morals & ethics which they now need to unlearn to a degree. (Not their fault). They are slowly learning how to survive in the world (albeit some <Sansa> more slowly than others). I repeat they are children, not 40 year olds i.e. Jamie, Cersei, Tyrion, or even older (Tywin/Olenna/Littlefinger) who have already learned how to play the game to greater or lesser degrees of success. I'm pretty sure Lancel is as dumb as dumb gets. Cersei isn't far behind him. Neither is Jamie for that matter. (I do like Jamie though but he isn't the brightest bulb). Alton didn't strike me as cunning or a master strategist either. The only things the Lannisters have going for them really is Tywin's cunning brain and possibly Tyrion's - if he survives. They hold no power/lands/riches/men at present so they are without resources. Always love an underdog. :)

S04.E06: The Laws Of Gods And Men 2014.05.11
Meredith Quill replied to Mya Stone's topic in Game Of Thrones
I can't reconcile her being coerced with her revealing things that she really didn't need to. Such as, "I held his face and told him, I am yours and you are mine" or "he liked it when I called him 'My Lion'", amongst others. Why reveal such intimate things if you don't have to, when you know how cruel and hurtful it will be to do so? It's not like Cersei or Tywin would have known if she had simply left those parts out. Especially when you consider that the real damage was done by the lies she had already told about murder plots incl Sansa; it's like the lies were sticking the knife in, and the intimate reveals were twisting it. That does not add up to simple coercion. -
Stark family status: Backbone of the whole saga.

S04.E06: The Laws Of Gods And Men 2014.05.11
Meredith Quill replied to Mya Stone's topic in Game Of Thrones
Agreed, she wouldn't just meekly let him kill her. The show may not even have him kill her by strangling her, but by some other method, who knows? However, Tyrion did give Shae a chunky gold necklace (in S3 I think) which I made a mental note of at the time, thinking "hmm wonder if that is gonna replace the hand chain when the time comes?". -

The Iron Bank is all about the numbers. They don't represent the whole of Braavos. -

I'm hoping this show lives up to the hype. Episode 1 has piqued my interest which is always a good sign. -
History And Geography Of Game Of Thrones

Yes that's right Travy, the RW was inspired by the Black Dinner, I remember reading GRRM mentioning that in an interview somewhere. -
History And Geography Of Game Of Thrones
Meredith Quill replied to Travy1991's topic in Game Of Thrones
Great post @Travy1991 The Wars of The Roses were fought between two rival branches of the House of Plantagenet; the Houses of York - sigil, a white rose (Stark) and Lancaster - sigil, a red rose (Lannister), mainly between 1455 and 1487. There is little doubt in my mind that these Houses were the inspiration for the Stark & Lannister names. This was dramatised most recently in the period drama 'The White Queen', as told predominantly from the point of view of Elizabeth Woodville (the white queen) who married Edward IV. I know not everyone enjoyed it but I did and it didn't hurt that Edward IV - Max Irons - is totally yummy. ;) -
It was a 'filler' episode imo. Apparently the writer (an AC fan) wanted to do an AC whodunnit type episode....so yes, I'd say it was a throw away in that respect. It's been quite a while since I watched it last but, I don't even recall any foreshadowing in that episode? I may be wrong though.

@BizBuzz The title refers to the jewel thief known as 'The Unicorn' and the aka 'The Wasp', try this link, it explains it all, rather than me copy/paste a wall of text in here. The foundation for the whole plot is basically that AC really did disappear for 10 days and no-one knew where she went. It was never publicly explained AFAIK, this is the Doctor's spin on it. (sorry if I'm being too literal about what you don't get but it's difficult to know whether you mean all of it or just parts of it). As for enjoying it, well, it isn't one of my favourite episodes but it was ok.

@BizBuzz Do you mean the Agatha Christie story??

The Twelfth Doctor: Let's Not Argue About Numbers
Meredith Quill replied to sevans623's topic in Doctor Who
I like the look; the Doc Martens boots, (which are owned/manufactured by the Griggs family of Northamptonshire, England, my old stomping ground incidentally) give him a very 'will take no shit' aura, as they were the footwear of choice for punks/skinheads in their heyday . The crombie type overcoat is very reminiscent of the whole British 'mod' look which I also liked. Wonder if he'll have a scooter too? :p -

Captain Jack Harkness: Anything With a Postcode
Meredith Quill replied to GreyBunny's topic in Doctor Who
Captain Jack, I miss you. That is all. -
A banger or sausage is made from pork or beef traditionally. To be honest, everyone I know calls them sausages (maybe generally referring to them as bangers is a northern thing? IDK I'm from down south and now live in the Midlands lol), unless specifically talking about a meal consisting of sausages, mashed potatoes and veg which is then fondly referred to as Bangers & Mash. A pudding or dessert is the sweet course of a meal. Black pudding is basically blood sausage which is a generic name for a type of sausage made by cooking blood or dried blood with a filler until it is thick enough to congeal when cooled (squick). But no-one would ever refer to black pudding as 'a sausage' it's always just called black pudding.

I loved Donna so much and yes it was utterly refreshing to have a companion who didn't make puppy dog eyes at the Doctor every 5 mins and who also wasn't there as 'eye candy' for the guys (yawn). My fav ever exchange was: Doctor: "I just want a mate." Donna: "You just want TO MATE?! well you ain't mating with ME, sunshine!!" Doctor: "NO I just want A mate, A. MATE!" Donna: "Oh, well, that's ok then" I lolled so hard at that. :D
-
My Doctor was 4 but my fav is 10, hands down, closely followed in order by 9,11,8 and I am looking forward to 12! Donna was the best companion for me, I totally adored her, which is ironic because I hated her in The Runaway Bride (too shouty) and was dreading her becoming a full time companion. I also don't like the 'special little snowflake' companions like Amy, Clara etc. For me the companion is our eyes into the Doctors world, and as a child, part of what made Doctor Who so exciting was that his companions were 'ordinary' people he collected along the way, which meant, to my childish eyes, one day it could be anybody, even me! When the companions are those who have a 'destiny' to travel with the Doctor, that feeling goes away and makes it less exciting.
