  1. Angela Lansbury in Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit is coming to the Ahmanson this month, so I'm there. Because - Angela Lansbury! I'll be 13 rows back from the stage and dead center.
  2. Well, that thread is within the TV forums; mods have mentioned that one could be created in the Off Topic section in which real-life crimes against grammar could be (respectfully) discussed, but no one has done so. Man cave drives me crazy on every level, too. As I've mentioned before, I have a game room -- there is a room attached to my (detached) garage that had a fireplace and built-in grill, so I added a pool table, stuck a giant TV up on the wall for prime football viewing, built a bar in one corner, etc. I have people over for "happy hour" occasionally, and my best friend likes to come watch playoff games with me, but it's mostly used by me (and my cat). Should I call it a woman cave? Man cave is just such a stupid term, and the implications of it -- that he gets a place to escape from the household and parenting duties, but she's forever in the "open concept" kitchen, preparing the family's meals while simultaneously watching the kids' every move -- take it beyond annoying.
  3. I don't agree that insulting someone's gender (or race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc.) is an acceptable substitute for attacking their actions, when it is those actions that are at issue with their gender, race, etc. being irrelevant. Such slurs cannot, by definition, be "deserved" in my opinion. It made me angry to hear Dave say it. It made me sick to see Andy Cohen run with it.
  4. If that's how Doug came to be EC, they left some footage out that I’d have liked to see. Mei was asked if she wanted to do it, and she repeated the question without answering it. So did she, at some point, throw her hat in the ring as well and the team decided to go with Doug, or did Doug become EC by default? Inquiring minds want to know.
  5. I find that one of the worst moments in the show's history, just behind treating that slur like something so funny it should actually be put on a t-shirt at the reunion.
  6. Yeah, not particularly inspired or challenging, but what sprang to mind - and made me laugh - when I thought of "quotes I like from episodes I don't." Because, hee. This sort of thing always amused me. I- t-at'- t-e l--el- A-e-t ---ll-, let -e- ---- I'-e -ee- ----i-- --t. I'- ----. Season 2: I, T, E, A, L Season 9:
  7. Fireflies! Man, I love this show, and love ION for airing it so often again.

  9. I think it's interesting that Katie and Melissa drew the knives allowing them to choose teams, because they probably would have been among the last picked had others been selecting teams.
  10. That definitely read to me as Doug snapping him out of it (and I'd need to throw a fit for a minute before regrouping, so I'm not critical of Adam's initial reaction, just that he kept on instead of getting started on the next batch of clams until Doug took charge). Had a disaster occurred when Adam was out front by himself, I think he would have got in his own way.
  11. When Katsuji showed his ass talking about Katie as if she's not good at anything, I hoped her dish would be his balls, deep-fried. Yes, she has been one of the weakest chefs of those remaining, but she has turned in highly-praised food more than once, and he has been inconsistent himself. WTF either way, but was Mei trying to say -- in the talking head when she said she wanted to step into the role of EC (even though when asked if she wanted to do it, she merely repeated the question and never answered it) -- with we all know women are better line cooks? Better line cooks than executive chefs? Or better line cooks than their male counterparts? I like the name and concept of Magellan, an around-the-world study of spices. But I don't think the menu did it justice. The Four Pigs menu seemed much more cohesive. And they certainly had better leadership and worked together better. Katie should give a clear direction to KeriAnn - I want the servers bringing me tickets for their tables, or I want a runner bringing them to me - having seen that KeriAnn wasn't doing a good job of training the servers. Both were in over their heads, and it just snowballed. At the end of the day, it's an individual competition -- one person will go home for this challenge, and one person will ultimately win the whole thing. But RW is a team competition in that one team will come out on top and not have any of its members up for elimination no matter what. So to sit back and encourage someone who isn't the best choice for EC to go ahead and do it because you're counting on her going down and letting you slide under the radar may be good strategy, but it doesn't impress me. Adam has a great personality for front of the house when things are going well, but I think he'd be manic in the weeds. I could watch Kristen and Stephanie every week, so I wanted to actually hear from them. Stephanie will likely forever have my favorite response to learning it was Restaurant Wars day -- "I should have taken some Pepto." Adam's clams looked really tasty, but Mei's toast didn't look appetizing. Otherwise, everything looked pretty good, with nothing making me want to reach through the TV and help myself like the Thanksgiving feast did. KeriAnn's dish was just a bad concept, between pre-making the crepes (the hell?!) and then making a filling that can't be spread. But someone needed to tell her it wasn't going to work as intended and get some input on fixing it, rather than surprising her with it. I'm glad Tom reacted the same way, because that was a real head scratcher for me. And Katie needed to give her a straight answer when she asked what happened. Although it's ultimately her call, Katsuji kept talking about it as Katie's idea, when it seemed to me it was Gregory's. I think KeriAnn was the right call, but I always think it sucks to go out for front of the house. And to wonder if she might have been able to stick around had her dish gone out as intended. I think going out midway through the competition is commensurate with her skills, and, again, that it made sense under these specific circumstances, but I do feel for her, too. On a random note, if Tom thinks something is salty, it must be like the ocean. Also, the editors can miss me with that lingering shot up KeriAnn's legs.
  12. G is for Rose's telling of the Great Herring War, which kept the women from going their separate ways. Betty White deserves a special award for pulling that off without breaking character.
  13. Ha! I don't remember if it was here or back on TWoP, but wherever we first floated the idea for a pop-up video version of HH, we deserve a piece of this new show. I still want stuff like a HH complaining a house is too small being followed by a pop-up explaining it’s X square feet over average for houses in that area and price range. Or a HH declaring an appliance will have to be replaced because it’s not stainless steel followed by a pop-up letting us know the appliance is only three years old and of high quality. And I’d really like to see a HH who complains “You can hear all the street noise” in the downtown condo they just had to have be treated to a pop-up that simply states, “Duh.”
  14. I think Frohike is my favorite of the LGM partly because of how Tom Braidwood, the show's AD, came to play the role. CC and crew were sitting around discussing the character types of the three geeks, and decided Frohike was a perverted little gnome of a man. Braidwood walked by right then, and one of them said, "Like Braidwood." Also because he dressed to the nines to bring flowers to a comatose Scully. And because of "Do you recycle?"

  18. That reminds me ... Maybe not as much of a sacrilege since it's Wings, not the Beatles, but I like the Guns 'n' Roses version of Live and Let Die better than the original.
  19. Okay, here we go with a short one because I'm feeling lazy: -- ----'- --- ------ ----- ------, --- --- ---- -'-- ---- ------- ---. -'- ----.
  20. Another good quote from an episode I don't like; maybe I'll continue the trend when I put up my own ... if I can think of one that fits. "I've seen the life on this planet, Scully, and that is exactly why I'm looking elsewhere."
  21. Byers, John Frohike, Melvin Scully, Margaret (sorry, Mrs Scully!)
  22. It's raining, so I'm in a soup mood, and I, like most, have turkey to use, so I'm making tortilla soup with turkey instead of chicken. With the last of the turkey, tomorrow's lunch will be a turkey club salad with avocado dressing -- a bed of romaine lettuce, topped with pea shoots, then scallions, then chopped bacon, with a nice ribbon of turkey strips down the middle. The dressing is just avocado, lemon zest and juice, garlic and red wine vinegar, olive oil and a little bit of hot sauce in the food processor.
  23. That's funny. Dyan Cannon is a courtside fixture; she's a HUGE Lakers fan. "Celeste" (Jennifer Grant) certainly didn't get her dad's acting talent or charisma, but I remember liking her with Steve.
