  1. I don't think it's inherently cruel to keep a cat indoors all the time, or inherently dangerous to give them some outside time. Most cats can adjust to being perfectly happy indoors (and many are that way from jump), so the former absolutely doesn't work as a blanket statement, but the latter doesn't, either - depending on the dangers of the area (predators, traffic) and the cat's temperament, sometimes it's possible for a cat to safely have some supervised outside time, and sometimes even some unsupervised outdoor time is safe. I think indoor-outdoor cats should generally be primarily indoor with controlled access to the outdoors rather than allowed to come and go at will, and should pretty much never have nighttime outdoor access. But the specifics depend on the cat and the environment. And even for cats who chomp at the bit to dash out that door, but can't be kept safe by supervision, there are catios and leash training as options. Whatever the circumstances, there's usually a safe solution to be found.
  2. Well, once again - four of five this week! - I had no guess for FJ. I've never read the book, and couldn't tell you a thing about it other than I know the title exists.
  3. I don't think anyone takes cling wrap. I didn't do a nationwide survey, but all the recycling centers I did check stated it cannot be recycled ("because it is a complex plastic made with chemicals that are difficult to remove during recycling").
  4. His own actions, and that of a media that to this very day characterizes what Beth said as comparing his actions to that of a rapist (which gets used against her), when what she said was his she seemed into it justification for keeping on despite Tami's repeatedly telling him to stop sounds like what a rapist says. She was right. And the women were right to say they didn't feel comfortable having to live with him afterward. David is no victim, I have only ever felt sorry for him about the fact his race means his actions had more repercussions outside the house than they would've had one of the white guys done the same thing, and to read (I haven't seen this, since I don't have the streaming service and haven't looked to see if they put the first episode up on YouTube like the did with NY's reunion season) that he STILL refuses to see and accept what he did even when it's clearly laid out for him by the woman herself sadly does not surprise me.
  5. Aw, first Quint and now Nola just a couple of months later.
  6. I love that little rant of his. My favorite part of that episode is when Rachel tells Elizabeth the Pilgrims came here to escape persecution by the British, and she tells the little brat, "Yes, so they could go about persecuting the Indians."
  7. I can't engage in the mental gyrations necessary to ignore the sexist context in which "bitch" has traditionally been used, so I don't use it against anyone; there are plenty of insults which aren't gender based for me to hurl at the jerks of the world. My peeve for today is high winds; this could make grilling the turkey breast interesting this evening. Not to mention my campfire.
  8. I watched a couple of episodes in the wee hours while trying to get back to sleep, and, wow, was that storyline with Mare Winningham as the fake doctor with the hots for Mark a ridiculous plot.
  9. I won't be watching Wed-Fri's games and am just going to look up FJ rather than the entire game. Last night's FJ was the third in a row for which I had no idea. But today's (no spoilers, don't worry) was an instaguess that turned out to be right. Whew; I was starting to get a complex.
  10. Interview with Tami about changing her mind and deciding to do the "Homecoming" season.
  11. Yeah, I was honestly a little taken aback by the idea of not wanting that feedback. The reason could be something beyond your control, something that shouldn't have been counted as a negative, etc. but it could also be something you hadn't been aware of and something that correcting before the next interview could be beneficial. Few employers are even willing to give that feedback when asked, let alone offer it, to the dismay of some job-hunting friends; they'd leap at the chance to know. I'd take it, too, in that situation.
  12. I will not use "the C word"; it's vile and misogynist. I won't use "bitch", either, as it's horribly sexist, but the other one I won't even type. I have to check myself in Britain, where it is not given the same meaning, so it wouldn't be fair for me to have the same reaction there I do here when someone else uses it.
  13. Oh good, I'm glad that's going to work for you.
  14. Same here. I don't "rely on" or "resort to" curse words, I merely use them as part of my vocabulary. I don't use - or quietly accept someone using in front of me - slurs or other discriminatory language, but arbitrarily designated words like "shit", "damn", and "fuck" are fair game in many situations.
  15. Imagine having "the ass man" in the first line of your obituary. But, yeah, that's what I associate him with, too.
  16. I somehow managed to miss ever learning (or at least retaining) Ford's birth name, or even that Gerald Ford isn't it. The only thing I know about him other than the circumstances under which he became president is he fell down a lot.
  17. This was the first episode I've watched in quite some time, and even though I didn't see the whole thing I barely made it through what I did watch because he was such an imperious twit. The garage on their house is indeed ass ugly, and I didn't get a good enough look at the layout but I may also have had an issue with having to use the intended dining room as a bedroom. It's not a house I'd have bought (I wouldn't have bought any of the three they looked at, especially the new build), but he was just insufferable in how he expressed himself.
  18. There will be new episodes of this show; Flay and FN agreed to a three-year extension of his contract. (There will also be another show with him and his daughter; I liked their first one, so I'll give the new one a look.)
  19. I don't hate it, but I'm happier when it's not there. I don't like facial hair, so that's the part not doing it for me. Underneath that, though, he looks good; I have no idea who he is (no need to tell me; I'll look him up), but he's cute.
  20. My parents realized how much I picked up around age three, when my mom answered my question as to how something worked, and I replied to this revelation with, "Well, son of a bitch."
  21. I'm not going to be home tonight, so just checked the archive. This football category went much better than the last one! That was a fun theme for the first round category titles. The Thespis TS surprised me, and I wasn't expecting them to do so poorly in the human body category. I only ran football and '38 in the first round, but at least I wasn't terrible at any of the rest, missing two in each. In DJ, however, I was terrible in Book Title Math; for all five clues, I only knew one of the books, so I blew the whole category. I only ran Broadway and body, but only missed six among the remaining categories (it would have been five if "Who are Bill Gates and the other guy?" counted for the business history DD). For the second day in a row, I didn't even have a guess for FJ.
  22. I don't usually watch, but I'm assuming the answer is yes, that's the norm since there was that hullabaloo about that kid who was eliminated before FJ and ran backstage crying, then was too upset to return (so, presumably, returning is what was supposed to happen). (The mother got pissy that Alex didn't go console the little darling and complained to producers about it, they asked Alex to re-tape the segment where he said something about the girl being so upset, and Alex hit the roof, threatening to quit. It was revealed when all those Sony emails were leaked about five years ago.)
  23. I suspect it's a common enough way of referring to the series they'd either accept it (which I'm not sure if I'd do if I were in charge, but I certainly wouldn't make a stink about it as a powerless viewer if it happened) or, at least, give a variation on the BMS prompt, e.g. "We need the full title".
  24. Was that also the cause of the previous three miscarriages (she had five total)? To-term pregnancy and delivery is a lot to put a body through six times, even without such a troubled history. And, of course, six kids are a lot to add to the population (especially in America, where we gobble up a disproportionate percentage of the world's natural resources). It's always been her choice to make, obviously, and once she made this latest one I'm glad it ended well for her this time. But I also hope she's done.
