LSSC: Season One All Episodes Talk
zxy556575 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Late Show With Stephen Colbert
There's apparently no pleasing me, because as much as I didn't like Stephen's forced banter with Jon, I also don't like his producers piping up from the sidelines, all mic'ed and sounding scripted. Hungry for Power Games remains gold, though. -
There's such a range of reality. Even the Emmys have divided their categories into Structured, Unstructured and Competition, but people still tend to associate "reality TV" with shows like Honey Boo Boo and the Kardashians. I primarily read non-fiction, including a lot of personal memoirs, and also enjoys documentaries. Fact-based books are more compelling to me than fiction in some ways because the stakes are higher and emotions are genuine. Candid reality shows can be viewed in that same vein -- as exemplars of the human condition. I also think a number of people watch shows like the Housewives solely because they enjoy mocking. Anyway, I can understand the draw. I've watched a lot of competitive shows, but those get stale just the same as scripted dramas. I avoid depressing fare like Hoarders or Intervention, as well as sophomoric stunt shows in the Jackass model. And everyone ages out of stuff like The Real World at some point.

Leno used to do the same bit going around knocking on doors, but at least he used a large apartment complex and didn't have to haul himself around residential neighborhoods. Even though his name is a lot more well known than Corden's, it always took a while before anyone would let him in, too. Putting myself in their place, it wouldn't be because I was hesitant to look silly during the comedy bits, but because I had dirty dishes in the sink or otherwise wouldn't want my house to be on television. Embarrassing! Most of the those who ended up letting him in were college students or young people in their mid twenties, like here. "Sure! We're probably stoned anyway!"

Me, too. I'm a member of a community discussion board that's primarily retirees. The site-owners first allowed political discussion, then forbid it entirely, then created a politics section that members had to sign into separately, then changed everyone's usernames in that section to "guest" to help forestall personal vendettas, then threw in the towel and forbid all politics again. Apparently even making a money off the extra hits wasn't worth the headache. In case you thought grandparents were peaceable, kindly folk. ;)

I would have given Sausage the win, too. Personal preference mostly.

Is it possible the other people have their IM client set not to save previous conversations? Otherwise, I got nothing. -
TDS 3.0: Season One Talk

I got a kick out of the bit about Hillary's gaffes. Made me wince and wonder if she's turned into a sleepwalking zombie at this point, but still funny. Trevor changing from his overly-enthusiastic game show host voice to a resigned-to-his-fate Hillary voter was spot on for me. -
All Episodes Talk: Weekly Willises
zxy556575 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in The Willis Family [V]
That was it. I guess it was just to allude to the friction that comes up at times. The show ended up spending more time blathering on about the logistics of building their danged house than it did about anything band related. And yes, perhaps the female children will end up living elsewhere with their eventual husbands but not any more so than the males. "It will be my husband's decision what I do with my life." Pfft. I'm kind of fascinated by Toby's hair. Is he going bald on top or does he shave the middle and just cultivate the spiky bits around the edges? Also, we can all see he has dad bod. Get the shoulder surgery or not, but I hope it's not going to be a plot point that we have to hear about any more. His wife still thinks he's hot, so whatever. Something still seems a bit off to me about Jair and Mary's breakup. I know she didn't want to go on tour with the Willises and leave her own family's band, but there seems to be some unwarranted antagonism. -
The Real O'Neals - General Discussion

I enjoyed the episode even though it exceeded my cringe tolerance threshold due to second-hand embarrassment on Kenny's behalf. Stop talking, Kenny! And Jimmy? Bless your heart. I hope you enjoy community college. -
I'm usually all for the comics having a good time and laughing at each other's jokes, but Kulap had the most annoying laugh! Her constant braying was hard on the ears.

All Episodes Talk: Weekly Willises
zxy556575 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in The Willis Family [V]
New season! Same wholesome, slow moving show. Kids don't even seem to have grown that much. Hypocritically, I would trap mice in my own house but kind of wanted the Willises to catch and release. -
Don't I remember Whitney once giving all her points to someone else so they could go to the final round? She doesn't seem to take it all that seriously, anyway. But she doesn't bother me the way she does some people; my only real exposure to her has been this show.

Kimmel gives Chris Harrison advice on giving his voiceovers a little variety.
-
That's what made me think of it! I haven't watched and generally don't like the precocious kid segments on Ellen or other talk shows, so I'm dubious. The thing with the original Kids Say is that the titular children weren't trying to get their SAG cards or anything.
-
I'm looking for gentler fare these days and would genuinely like to see another reboot of Kids Say the Darndest Things. To be very specific, the Art Linkletter years. As Cosby proved in the 90s, the host can make or break the show.

Not only believe, but manage to blame "liberals" for all of Trump's factual, demonstrable lies. "It's because he's being covered unfairly by the media!" -
I watched the Bitch Perfect battle four times, oh yes I did. Definite highlight of the entire run so far. Ru's breasts are jacked so far up her chest she's going to be able to use them as eye masks pretty soon. Speaking of jacked, a few of the queens need to look into cosmetic dental surgery.

Jake also has the Dunning murder to consider if he goes back to the present and ends up resetting. But then, his dedication to the mission is haphazard at best. God forbid he listen to Al and lay the fuck low. I had no understanding of how a cut to Sadie's face was life-threatening. The doctor blabbed on about blood loss, but there wasn't very much in evidence when she was tied up. Was the implication that she had been stabbed through to her brain? A hundred times this. Drives me crazy.

The Carmichael Show - General Discussion
zxy556575 replied to Skyfall's topic in The Carmichael Show
Season 2 seems to have lost the spark somehow. I was looking forward to the Cosby episode but was disappointed. Although the cast discussed all sides of the issue, it didn't feel sincere or earned to me. Jerrod continues to throw off the acting, I think. Even Loretta is becoming a little one-note shrieky. -
Now I'm wondering what kind of agreements All3Media has to air the clips. I don't remember the couchies ever commenting about a show being really bad -- stupid or boring or terrible. Maybe all negative comments are purposefully left in editing so as not to piss off the relevant networks? The only indication we get about lack of interest is people being on their phones. I've never even noticed Mackenna's nose ring! Guess I need a bigger TV or better vision or the strength to pay attention.

I enjoyed it a lot, which can mostly be summed up as: Titus! I'm happy just watching him inhabit Bosch. It's nice to be able to spend time with these people again; the mystery is secondary to the characters and evocative settings for me. I thought there was going to be an answer or surprise of some sort as to what Eleanor and Reggie had been fighting about and why he walked out, but if so I missed it. I don't mind Maddie in "the daughter" role as fuel for Bosch's emotional turmoil, but she's more of a construct at this point than a fleshed-out person. I also don't find Eleanor very compelling; she's just there for the requisite disapproval. Not sure what qualities skeezy Nash had that would attract both Jeri Ryan and the pretty vet, but I need to let that slide or I'd never watch any movies or TV. It's also possible that Veronica was deliberately using him, although she did sell loving and wanting to be with him.

Small Talk: How Not To Get Caught Dead With Dirty Underwear
zxy556575 replied to tobeannounced's topic in Dateline
It's not that Kraft changed the recipe, it's that they changed it, didn't tell anyone until 3 months later, then released a bunch of ads that crowed "Haha! We fooled you and you didn't even notice!". I mean, just put a blurb on the box that it has no artificial ingredients.
