It's extremely disheartening to me that both parties assume that any SCOTUS nominee, liberal or conservative, will always push their own party's agenda. The Supreme Court judges are supposed to rule on matters of law, not of politics. They don't of course, but that's the disheartening part.

It seems like this was one more example of Jake's disorderly and impulsive thought processes. He fully intended to start with Dallas -- and did -- but lost heart when he experienced such violent resistance from the past. Or maybe he was simply intending a reset in order to prevent the kid from being killed in the boarding house fire? Who knows. The subplot with the Dunnings was pretty solidly set up in the premiere, so I wasn't surprised when he decided more or less on a whim to try to "fix" that. I'd describe the overall subject matter more as "spooky and unnerving time travel" rather than simply JFK in and of itself.

Ha! I just paid the damned $1.99 to see the whole thing!

Besides ... tax-exemptions are for TAXES. Why would the guy think that included not paying his utility bills??

I gotta give credit to the producers and casting agents for deliberately swinging the pendulum the other way to make up for the awful men they picked in season 2. I think David and Neil were both truly and fundamentally (and neurotically?) sincere about wanting to be married. Tres less so, but even he was willing to give it an honest go. But then the producers shot themselves in the foot again by completely failing on the woman! It's easy to believe the reports of 80% female applicants vs male, so there's no excuse for casting Ashley and Sam. Oh, Vanessa. She certainly put forth a very different image of herself during the casting process. I guess the composed, self-assured and together version only comes out when she's not with a man.

Good catch! That didn't even occur to me, but you're right that the age is off. I didn't think much of O'Toole's performance one way or the other, to be honest. It was very one-note, but was written that way so I can't fault her. Jack's final scene with Edna where he asked her not to call the Sheriff was pretty dumb of him (some more, again). C'mon, Jack. The police are certain to be after you -- not like you were at all subtle or inconspicuous about murdering someone.

I loved Trevor's little dip-dance at the start of Tuesday's show. He really does seem to feel more at ease standing up. I hope doing the show is fun for him; I know I've fallen victim to his dimply charms. I figured the cost/cast exchange was deliberate since Trevor just kept repeating himself instead of trying to clarify using different words, but it went on too long and came off as awkward and cringe-y. I haven't conducted a research study on this or anything, but sometimes it feels like Trevor's interviews with black guests are higher on the awkward scale -- as if he assumes some sort of innate bonhomie or commonality that at times just isn't there, and it sort of puts the guest off center a bit.

With Gilmore Girls getting a reboot, I'll take the opportunity to say that I loved Jess and disliked Luke. I wasn't the only one, but definitely in the minority. Is 'shipping restricted solely to slash and unlikely pairings? I've watched a couple of series* where I really wanted the two M/F leads to just do it already, but it was clear the show had every intention of going there anyway. An example would be Castle, where viewers pretty much knew from the get-go that Castle/Beckett were the end game, so why bother 'shipping them? * Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (and they STILL haven't after 3 years) * Reckless (and they NEVER did because the show was cancelled)

The Dreyfus interview was on tape; not sure why the show even bothered to try to pass it off as live. I don't like any talk show hosts making fun of their guests, and the "glad you dressed up" sarcasm is particularly unwarranted. Why does Stephen care if his middling celebrity guests show up in tracks suits vs business suits? The celebs are aware of how they market their own images, good or bad, but it's not the host's job to call them on it. If Stephen believes it cheapens the tone of his show, let me disabuse him of that. Some of his own purposefully silly/juvenile skits do that on their own. I could also stand to see fewer hosts fawn over their female guests who wear sexy clothes, especially cleavage-baring: "Wow! I'm really trying not to look!" Grow up.

I'm still thinking about this show a few days later. It burrowed into me for sure. Also wanted to thank John Ramos for his insightful and moving recaps; they made watching more enjoyable for me.

What is so impossible about not referencing the source book in TV show threads that are clearly labeled No Book Talk? I'd like to discuss what I watched on my [device name] without having to scroll through someone's tl;dr treatise about their disappointment at how unfaithful the adaptation has been, changes between the two versions, how much better the book is, etc. And yes, sneaking in one sentence that refers to the book in a larger post still counts as talking about the book.

It wasn't that fucking long ago that Howard Dean shouting -- once! -- in excitement/passion made him an unelectable "loser" in the eyes of the public. The absolute worst part of Trump's campaign for me is that the vile ignorance and bigotry of so many Americans has been brought to light. I honestly had believed they were a small minority.

The only reason I'm looking forward to the inevitable scene (probably in the finale/cliff-hanger) of Quentin and Julia pitting their magic against one another -- to the death! -- is that it gives me hope that Julia dies.

Given the Repuglican alternatives, I absolutely wanted Jeb to win the nomination. I dislike his politics but at least he's not a raving nutjob! I'll be voting for whomever the Dems put up, but both their candidates have electibility issues and I'm kind of terrified that Trump might actually prevail. The street interviews with Ugandans on Trump vs Museveni were sad to me.

So the group shots showed only around 20 first-year students, total? Which would mean maybe 60 students in the entire place, given that Brakebills is apparently a four-year graduate institute and there are only two third-year students left. With all the culling going on, I can't imagine more than 8-10 a year manage to graduate. At this point I don't much care if anyone finishes or not, given that I still have no idea what sort of benefits would accrue. To focus on the most minor of issues, it bugs me that the pronunciation of Quentin's name changes from quent to quint from character to character and moment to moment. On the plus side, Alice's skirt was finally a couple of inches longer. Penny? Kady isn't worth your love.

It also occurred to me that Jake giving Doris the "prize" tickets was what set Dunning into his murderous rage in the first place.

I pretty much watch this show the same way I do, say, Fast N' Loud or Jay Leno's Garage -- as a mildly entertaining way to learn about a hobby I otherwise have no knowledge of or interest in. Spending 30 minutes a week with likable people was enough for me to keep the show on my DVR. This week, however, I was thoroughly bored and deleted the episode halfway through. Don't know if the situations are simply becoming too contrived or I've reached the limit of how much I personally need to know about comics and comic-related collectibles.

I stopped watching his show because it seemed to be the same thing over and over, although I don't mind him personally. But I agree that smaller doses are better. His tortured facial hair stylings are nutso.

Good lord, Jake. His bumbling and reckless lack of planning were driving me crazy. Why was his first inclination to go find Dunning? To do what, exactly -- talk him out of killing his family? There was no evidence that Jake knew what his next move would be after the murder, either. I suppose Jake missing his shot at Dunning from 4' away could be attributed to the past pushback stuff, but why Jake waited so long in the house before trying to help, while Doris was screaming and there were trails of blood, was kind of baffling. What does he think is going to happen now with Doris and the kids left in the house with a dead body? A ton of people saw him leaving the house bloody and battered, so I don't suppose Doris will be charged, but you never know. It's possible Doris may be left in dire financial straits now without any child support. The kids are certainly scarred, as well as being without a father they were previously shown to be close to. I don't think I've seen Josh Duhamel play a bad guy before, but he brought the simmering scariness for sure. I couldn't watch the cow/sledgehammer scene.

Me too! The fact that Sisko was such bosom friends with Curzon only made me think less of Sisko. I could take or leave Jadzia. She never had much personality aside from being pretty, even after they tried to up her ante via the romance with Worf. She and he had zero chemistry. I wasn't sad or anything when she died.

I'm halfway through season 6 and it hasn't gotten any better for me, unpopularily. I really enjoy Quark, though, which surprised me because I typically find the Ferengis to be irritating. Whereas I think Brooks' acting choices detract, Shimerman's bring much-needed humor to the series. I want to say my UO is that I ship Sherlock and Watson on Elementary, but I'd be teasing just to get a rise out people. I definitely can't see them as anything other than partners and defend-to-the-death-friends.

I started reading the book since so many people recommended it, but it's pissing me off that it doesn't follow the TV show! Heh. Guess I'll have to wait to read it until the series is over.

So nice to see Jackson Galaxy and cats! Trapping them all will for sure be a long process, but hopefully they haven't become too feral and can eventually be captured and adopted. VRC has always rescued breeds other than pits when needed (and Tia's own dogs run the gamut), but I was pleased that the Assumption Parish location is open to all. It was heart wrenching to see Tia tear up talking about all the dogs who never get adopted.

Just to say that I'm really liking that Dog Town focuses on training so much. We don't really see that in other shows and it remains very interesting to me. The one dog who was a neurotic, constant digger was a tough case but they did get him better. The dog from yesterday's show who was a hyper jumper seemed better, but he was returned to the shelter so I'm thinking the training didn't stick, or more likely, the owner didn't stick with it.

Right after I was hired, a former employer instituted a salary freeze. I'll grant that they were having financial problems. But I was stupid enough to stay for five freaking years without a single raise or bonus (I don't count the free turkeys on Thanksgiving). When I found out that some people actually had gotten raises during the "freeze," I finally quit. Duh. In my defense, I liked the work, was close with my cube-mates, and my manager left me alone. Overall job satisfaction for me pretty much relies, not on the company itself, but on my immediate supervisor.
