A Case Of The Mondays: Vent Your Work Spleen Here
zxy556575 replied to potatoradio's topic in Everything Else
Our office was recently remodeled to this type of layout. It's so open and conducive to teamwork!! They even added a ping pong table!! Isn't work FUN!!! Fortunately, I work from home. -
Life at Vet U: Dang it, I knew they were going to drag out the Match Day results until next week! Good luck to the two students who are preparing for a year of separation during their internships, but long distance relationship are hard, my dears. It's an inevitable drift. The equine student seems kind of nervous and uncertain for horses; they sense that anxious hesitancy more than most animals. Nice to have Dr. Oakley and her dart guns back! She really does have the most troublesome patients in the wildlife preserves, either running away or trying to gore her. Those pronghorn sheep on the cliffs were so cute. But troublesome. And try getting them all in a pen next time, cheese. That was a lot of work for one danged ear tag.

It didn't occur to me that the splat mark wasn't the actual crime scene, but that's true. The only nefarious reason I can think of for Eric to dash down would be to remove something from Kate's person. The blood splatter would be messed up with him kneeling it in and picking up the body, but I don't see how contamination would come into play.

Faux Life: Things That Happen On TV But Not In Reality
zxy556575 replied to Kromm's topic in Everything Else TV
Doesn't it seem like TV houses have a much higher percentage of letter slots than exist normally? Directors love those shots of mail being pushed through and spread out on the floor. Especially in apartments, which I've never seen IRL. -
Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"

I shall now imagine you living gracefully in a glass lake house, with an small urban jewelbox as your pied–à–terre. You made me curious so I just counted: 5 double lower cabinets, 7 double uppers, 4 double drawers, one 36" wide pantry. Galley kitchen. Suburban 1350 sf tract house set among thousands of others, woot! -
Oh, dear. I had it in my head that there were 8 episodes and just noticed that there are 13. I'm already dragging myself through. I'm on episode 7 and have been fast-forwarding past the more violent scenes/fights so know I'm missing out on some backstory. I want to like this but maybe I just have to admit it's not for me. I usually wouldn't be so forbearing and patient but have enjoyed the other Marvel series so much that I want to see this one through. I think Cottonmouth isn't a compelling villain, which isn't helping. He's just a hardscrabble wannabe who's one bad heist away from losing everything. Yes, he's a violent sociopath but seems pretty easy to bring down.

Ah, thanks. I thought I had somehow missed an entire storyline with the kid. Druggie and/or missing parents obviously, but every city has some of those and I was unsure why this child in particular had struck a nerve with Henry. I wish Henry had told Cady why there wouldn't be an adoption. He keeps everything important to him bottled up while still being a rock for his friends.

She was awful! Good grief. I'm hoping the show isn't cancelled before we find out why Jake and Julia are so never-lie-to-you, ride-or-die tight. I also may be terribly naive to believe there is one. Ha! That was so random. If Louise is so dumb that she needs to be reminded what time her show is on the air and how long hair and makeup take, she can pack her lacy bras and go away.

I wasn't immediately entranced the way I was for Jessica Jones and Daredevil, but didn't dislike it, either. This episode set up the characters and background okay, but was kind of plodding. I didn't think Luke was fleshed out very well on JJ and don't really have a sense yet of who is he as a person. Maybe I need to adjust my expectations.

I'm drawn to Zahn McClarnon. I only know him from Longmire, which is enough, but I also found an earlier photo that supports my hypothesis. Like @Irlandesa said about Gosselaar, there's something about the lithe way Zahn carries himself and the comfort and ease he has with his body that makes me raise an interested eyebrow.

Ha! And why couldn't they find office space somewhere to hold them?

I've pretty much always liked Mathias, even more than Walt. ;) He's intriguingly mysterious -- Good guy? Bad guy? Situational ethics? But in the end, always pocket-sized sexy.

Wiki tells me that of the remaining contestants, Tito, Kevin and Gia are tied for lowest with 2 bottom finishes and no wins. I'm not gonna call Tito's shop and shout invective at him or anything, but it's vexing that he's still there. He should have been gone for the Medusa or the tree of life. He's also been an arrogant schmuck. Let's remind ourselves of this guy's mediocre output, Nikki.

Curious about "you can't go back to any time where you've ever been before or you might disintegrate on the trip back or something." Does that mean the same day, month, year, epoch?

Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"
zxy556575 replied to Betweenyouandme's topic in Everything Else
As I browse around P.tv, I see TV shows (and actors) mentioned that I have literally never heard of. Not one article or newsfeed headline, and nobody I know has ever talked about them. Upon threat of death I could not tell you what they're about. This is why I look up so much shit on IMDB and wikipedia. A couple of recent examples are Adventure Time (on the air for 7 seasons) and Code Black. I don't tend to like animated shows so can forgive myself for the former, but Code Black is a network show going into its second season. Am I just that old? I actually check out Variety and Hollywood Reporter most days but guess I only read/notice stories about shows I already know about. Some of it has to do with the way TV watching has changed. I used to subscribe to TV Guide, read it to see what was on every night, and plan my viewing. Now I have everything preset in my DVR and many times don't even notice what channel or night shows are on. They just come up in my play list. I also set my onscreen channel guide to hide all the networks I don't watch -- sports, religious programming, children's, etc. This means I never see titles of shows that are off my radar. I'm trying to convince myself I'm not as superfluous as advertisers and the Nielsen ratings consider me to be, is what it is. -
The actor is Currie Graham. He played slimeball District Attorney Mario Siletti on the recent season of Murder in the First, if that's what you're thinking of.

From Jezebel: "Fleabag is the latest addition to the 'unlikable woman' genre of television comedy. The series, imported from BBC3, was created by and stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge. It’s light on plot, which is to its benefit, and instead follows the protagonist as she ungracefully stumbles through a failing career, a friend’s death, and her deeply dysfunctional family. Waller-Bridge is committed to that particularly grim British approach that finds a kind of poignant humor in complete and utter failure." Maybe I'm topped off on awkward failures, but I sort of watched with a weary sigh. I certainly didn't laugh. Does wincing count as enjoyment these days?

LSSC: Season Two Episode Talk
zxy556575 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Late Show With Stephen Colbert
I'd like to see an analysis of what percentage of comedy/skit time has been devoted to Trump over the last year, for Stephen all the late night shows. My guess is at least 50%, which is too shitfucking much. And nah, I do not think the show has improved in the sense that I'm now yukking it up on a regular basis. However, I do feel like my expectations have been lowered and tolerance for the banal increased. His interactions with Stephen are a lot less awkward now, I agree. -
My fingers are crossed for a Kelly win. I love her work and, from what we've seen, she's remained poised and calm. Good lord. It's a pretty low bar when the highest compliment for a contestant on this show is that they haven't started personal vendettas or screamed insults at each other.

Boneface had been marginalized and discounted from the second episode when his team excluded him from contributing to the joint piece. His portfolio doesn't blow me away, but he is quite competent and has been doing this for 17 years. I have to wonder why the grudge right off the bat against the guy. Here are Nikki's and Boneface's elimination tattoos. I think Nikki's are better from a design perspective, but genuinely don't see what he's done artistically that's sent her into the hate stratosphere. I also thought his packing tape portrait was one of the top results.

Another example of the show's hokiness is Seth murmuring at the bomb site that he lost everyone. Was he being literal? White House staffers are mostly intact, and those are who he'd primarily have been interacting with in his job. Was he speaking figuratively, expressing the entire country's loss? If so, that there is pure cheese. That only one person survived the bomb blast is not believable -- there would have been many casualties widening out from the epicenter -- but I am curious who's going to be pulled from the rubble. I'm hoping for a C-SPAN camera operator. But miracle of miracles, my guess is Agent Whosit's lover.

It's fiction and there's no precedent for any of this, but I imagine there would also have to be 2-3 press conferences a day. Start naming ACTING officials -- cabinet members, a chief of staff, press secretary, etc. None of them have to be permanent. Kirkman seems to have more time to ponder and wander than I would have expected for someone with such an urgent to-do list. Get cracking, dude. I don't give a shit if Kirkman hasn't been elected and has been prejudged as incompetent, that roomful of people arguing with each other and ignoring him strained credulity. These are supposed to be Washington insiders. Who rounded them all up, anyway? I want to like this show. There's plenty of inherent drama in the situation without adding storylines and events that feel more like cheesy soap opera.

And therein lies its greatness.

Great show with Grace, Mamrie and Hannah. I was having fun, the comics looked like they were having fun, Chris and the audience were having fun. Wins all around.

This is the part where I'm brought low and have to admit how much I liked the flash challenge, after bitching about them for so long. Some of these folks could have a career as collage artists. I'm glad they went with portraits rather than something more abstract like heaven and hell. What's wrong with Boneface doing a self-portrait, Nikki, and how exactly is that lazy? His had more of a fine art gallery feel to it. Ryan's piece pretty much looked like her, too. Didn't everyone sketch out their design on the plexiglass first? Gian taping his to the back was smart: "Gian, you magical motherfucker!" Hey, artists? STOP BITCHING ABOUT THE SKULL PICKS! Time after time, they work up a hypocritical snootful of anger that someone dared give them a difficult request. Then they turn around and do the exact same shit when it's their turn. Bugger off. I think I dislike Nikki as much as any asshole who's ever been on this show. What a douche.
