I live in Central Florida and my area hasn't been affected by Hurricane Matthew, which is reason to be thankful (although honestly, we were never projected to be in harm's way this far inland). The bonus part is how many people have contacted me to ask if everything's okay. That was really nice of them! It's also handy that these days I can easily catch up on shows I've missed due to all the pre-emptions for wall to wall storm "news."

I didn't get that either, especially since the new digs looked bright, clean and roomy. But one of the problems of the series for me is her opaque inscrutability, so this was just more of the same.

Does you guys remember her reality shows Life With Lisa and Dweezil & Lisa? Those just zapped into my head. Thursday's show would have been great if Heather Anne had come up with the Lt. Dangle line on FTW. Tom Lennon may have figured out the game now since his losing streak has been reversed to winning.

Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"

Welp, it's 4 am and has had hardly rained at all. No storms, thunder or otherwise. The "squall" forecasts for Friday afternoon have been downgraded to "rain." Central Florida is much more likely to have sinkholes than hurricane force winds this far inland. The big ones that swallow you up evoke a greater sense of fear in me than earthquakes or hurricanes. A tornado bearing down would not be wonderful, either. -
The story goes that Kate Mulgrew was resentful of Jeri Ryan from the jump because of the way Ryan was added to the existing cast of Voyager at the expense of another actor. The tension reportedly got so bad that Ryan would be physically sick before they had scenes together. And you know what? All viewers ever saw onscreen was a caring, mentoring relationship between Janeway and Seven of Nine. So kudos and thanks to both of them for their professionalism.

I think sometimes when we see shots of Heidi with a skeptical or dismayed expression during the runway, her consternation is about the models, not the clothing. I question her taste level.
-
Let's not forget the critical scenes of an officer going to Gibson's hotel room to languidly straighten up papers and select clothing from her closet. Not only atmospherically riveting, but moving the plot along at a breathless pace.

Thank you. I didn't understand, outside of general legal advice, why his dad was so insistent that Eric not speak to the police, even going so far as to physically bar him at the station. The blackmail could be seen as partially exculpatory, and hiding it/lying will only bolster Cornell's original suspicions of Eric.

Not sure why but I thought Reva as Pop's niece? I did take "Reva's people" as being literal truth, but maybe Luke meant it in the honorary family sense.

Below is the local forecast for my city in central Florida from the Weather Channel. We're under a tropical storm watch (which, btw, happens several times a season). I went to the grocery store tonight for my regular Thursday BOGO buys and the entire aisle of bottled water was empty, along with half the chips. Bagged salads were cleaned out, and canned foods noticeably deplenished. The gas station had closed off the pumps. For heaven's sake, people. Get a grip! -
How old are the kids? If they're adults already or even late teens, I'd see it more as an empty threat, even if sincerely meant. I have no interest in watching but am curious to see how the forum comments shake out!

This Just In: New, Cancelled, Returning, And On-Hiatus Shows News

Sometimes there's no logical reason for liking or disliking a piece of entertainment (or the reason would take years of psychotherapy to tease out), but Conviction is my favorite of the new Fall shows. I tend to like easy-listening procedurals, so maybe the premise just hits my sweet spot. It hasn't gotten very good reviews, so my enjoyment is not widely shared. Dumped/not for me: Aftermath, Lethal Weapon, MacGyver, Bull, The Exorcist, The Good Place, Better Things, Versailles, Speechless -
Okay, I honestly don't understand the repeated excuse of not being familiar with a particular style. It's not like the artists are required to draw anything from memory -- they have a damned Internet full of examples! I realize (sort of) there are technical differences in how tattoos are inked from one style to another, but it seems like any artist of this supposed caliber should be able to apply a stencil for, say, a koi fish and still do it justice even if they're "not familiar" with Japanese.

TDS 3.0: Season Two Talk
zxy556575 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Daily Show With Trevor Noah (2015-2022)
Aw, Trevor. After a year of daily, multi-channel TV news watching, he's finally turned into Jon and can no longer hold back his disgust: "What is WRONG with you people? Do your jobs!" -
The congressman survives a bomb blast and building collapsing on top of him but looks and sounds just dandy in the hospital? I guess he twisted an ankle. The insubordinate, lying chief of staff being promoted made me hack up a hairball. "My greatest weakness is that I am too bold." Blow me, dude. I'm also supposed to believe that the former president spent AN HOUR of cabinet time talking about his son's piano recital or some shit? I'd like Kirkman better if I thought he made that up to appease the idiot son, but I'm afraid not. That entire storyline was brain-crushingly hokey: "My father didn't trust you!" Yeah well, presidents don't get to choose their successors, son. I'm thinking the majority of them disliked their replacements. I wanted to like this show but am not going to be able to hang in much longer at this rate. Complete malarkey.

I appreciated that they didn't drag out the discovery of the magic radio and eventual acceptance by both Raimy and Frank, because boring. I was also happy to see Raimy immediately tell her fiance what happened even though that didn't pan out. I guess it will now be par for the annoying course that Raimy will keep everything a secret, yet incorporate info she learns from her dad into her present day cases, causing suspicion and mistrust of her. My primary memory from the movie is my dad, a ham radio hobbyist, nattering on about some inconsistencies or other. My mind shut him out to focus on Dennis Quaid.

I'm annoyed on Gina Rodriguez's behalf. I wonder how much of the discrepancy is due to better representation? Be interesting to see another column with the name of each person's agent/agency. Are there many minorities working as agents and managers?

But what are the odds that those changes would specifically affect the 20 or so people involved in the time travel project, out of a US population of 320 million? I'm interested in the changes to Lucy's life as a plot point of the show, but it would strain credulity for me outside the TV.

I thought I recognized her but had to look it up -- that is Amy Pietz playing Evie's boss. Was Evie's singing supposed to be bad because she was nervous? After the build-up, it was pretty lackluster. Or maybe my ear is off.

Not having seen any of the commentary doesn't stop me from speculating that maybe "too black" means "so culturally specific that I don't understand many of the references"? It's perhaps a less offensive critique that way but still a specious argument. Pointing a lens to show ways of living that are "unlike me" is how we learn. I'm not any more familiar with Harlem than residents there probably are with my small town North Dakota, but I'm glad to hear that many of the "street level" scenes in Luke Cage ring true. For better or worse, I have been developing more of a sense of the place from watching the show.

I think Evie needs to pay attention to those alarm bells -- they're loud and flashing! -- because as much sex as Xavier included on his list, it doesn't seem like monogamy during his last eight months is a priority for him. But maybe it isn't for Evie, either. That was the worst part for me because those characters are generally unrealistic and tiresome. I will NOT be taken in by your charm offensive!

Maybe! I got through about 10 minutes before giving up.

I'm 90 miles inland in Central Florida and even we're getting dire warnings. The electrical cables in this area are underground and if we do get some wind/rain, any power outages are likely to be minimal. I'm deliberately not reading my community discussion board because all the talk of bug-out bags and extra provisioning is super peeve-y. -
Why can't they make retractible stairs for it?

Not disagreeing, but I thought Ryan's stoma tattoo was disappointing for 5 hours of work. She can do better. Kelly has the best overall score right now so I'm hoping she makes it through to the end. It was nice that Team Peck tried to give each of the flash canvases the best artist for their desired design. A touch of actual humanity and professionalism on display!
