Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"
zxy556575 replied to Betweenyouandme's topic in Everything Else
Drive though order at Steak 'n Shake: patty melt, onion rings, and mint shake. What I got when I opened the bag at home: patty melt, fries, chocolate shake I was the only customer in the line so my peeve is those damned drive through intercom systems. Surely there are better microphone and speaker options. (And yes, stress eating after a trying day.) -

Nick seems drunk in that clip. And guess what, Nick? Your response is exactly what "opening up" means. Just say the damned words. You end up hurting someone more by being "polite" and lying. I wish the show would address the pot directly, but Heather still seems unreasonable to me: Derek asked her if he was okay > she said yes > the extent of his usage bothered her more than she thought it would OR she lied when she said it was fine > Derek stopped when she told him she was unhappy > despite this concession on his part she made no further attempt to start over, be open to him, give him another chance. I do believe Derek when he whined that she was completely shut down by day three. Given the premise of the damned show, I think she should at least have tried. She was obviously very upset and miserable during the honeymoon, but her unhappiness was for her own shattered dreams that the show would match her with Mr. Big. -
Oy, the dratted dog being crated but still on/next to the bed? I think Sonia doesn't know what "deathly afraid" means, because she ain't that. She is fretful and nervous but Nick could so easily have helped her cope by managing his pets' behavior. Instead, he didn't do squat to put her at ease. That to me shows how little he cares for or about her, more so even than his lack of physical affection.

One Mississippi - General Discussion
zxy556575 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in One Mississippi
You should feel fortunate to have such a stable, rock-solid person in your life. Does your guy also have an adored cat? :) Even though Tig is enormously resentful about what she sees as Bill's dismissal of and uncaring attitude towards her past sexual abuse, when he told her about the trust he set up to make sure she was financially taken care of, it was clear how much she means to him and how deeply he cares. -
I'm not so sure about Nicole! Woman is a nervous dervish in the kitchen. But she at least cooks enough to know that about herself and implement her lei system. (Which, c'mon. She could put rubber bands around her wrist, but of course that wouldn't fit her deliberately kooky persona.)

I was glad they kept Barbara Eden, too, just because she was such a nice person. I liked her saying that they should eliminate her -- some self-awareness on reality shows is always appreciated. Maybe the celebrity contestants aren't quite as hopeless in the kitchen as their regular counterparts, but I don't ask a lot from this show so I'm not mad at it. Barbara not knowing how to unlock a pair of tongs was funny, as was Kenya's repeated tortilla burning. Ten seconds, Kenya! I looked up Matt Dallas' age because he looked kind of rough to me and it hasn't been that long since Kyle XY; he's only 33. Maybe a shave would help. I didn't mind Sorrentino as much as I thought I would and I'm fine with Rachael, which I know some people aren't. Mindy was and is adorable. Nicole calling out a couple of shows she's been on and then saying "every mediocre sitcom" was odd. One of those things that sounded better in her head.

Parental Units And Other Adults Of Note

In one way it's the least of their problems but in another it isn't since it's partly their livelihood, but I don't see how the band can continue unless Toby is found not guilty. Even though the kids did nothing wrong, how could fans enjoy their concerts with that kind of ugly blot hanging over the family? I'd just be watching and feeling heartsick for them. But the group isn't my cup of musical tea so maybe I'm way off. -

Seriously. My sense of design was offended. He was 27 at the time. Which, still. We were both in grad school and ended up taking jobs in different states after graduation. Dated long distance for a while but eventually drifted apart. I was 8 years older than him and he once said he'd marry me if I were 10 years younger. NOT EVEN HIS OWN AGE! Wrong assumption that I would have said yes, anyway. Eh, we had fun for a couple of years. -
That's funny. It's the cheekbones and narrow eyes.

Okay, it's not like I forgot my sister's birthday? I will admit to forgetting the date and that tomorrow is the 15th. So thank you local grocery store 10 minutes before closing for: card, wrapping paper, bottle of her favorite wine, box of her favorite chocolates, large bag of treats used during her line dancing class, and gift cards for iTunes and Shell gas station. Practical!

Oh my gosh, tell me somebody has watched Cracker with Robbie Coltrane! I'm finding him to be such a horrifyingly awful person that I can't stomach watching. The series is very popular, won awards, and has good customer reviews, so it must be me?

I've never heard of it but will give it a go after such a heartfelt recommendation. :)

Ugh, ugh, ugh. So gutwrenching and life-destroying for Brenda and the kids. Has to be either Jenny or Jet. Wasn't Toby taken into custody without bail? Authorities confirmed Willis was told he was not allowed to go around his biological children or his wife. Willis has been scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing and a bond hearing on Wednesday, September 21. -

Dear Ann Landers: I was dating a guy long enough so that I was staying at his place most nights (closer to my work) and he had given me the obligatory dresser drawers and shelf in the bathroom. One day he put up a Playboy-type poster of a semi nude woman in his bedroom. I told him I didn't like it and asked if he would take it down. He refused. Things spiraled and I became incensed that he refused to make such a tiny concession in his life for someone he professed to love. He said if it was so minor I should be able to let it go and he had the right to live in his own place the way he pleased. Etc. I cleaned out my stuff and left. After a cooling off period we discussed it, he took the poster down, and we went back to normal but I still don't know who was right or wrong. Or maybe neither one was. -

Well that's carked up. On the plus side, now I can use it and be a vocabulary snob at the same time. -
I'm sure there's a legal difference, but what's ironic to me about the talk of Derek and Heather possibly getting an annulment vs a divorce is that nobody excludes them when discussing marriages. For example, Wikipedia lists a celebrity as having X number of marriages, along with the years, and "annulled" in parentheses if applicable. Same is true of the one person I know IRL who had an annulment -- everyone knows she went through a damned ceremony, signed the license and GOT MARRIED. It still counts in our heads! And it's not something you could ever omit telling a new partner: New romantic interest: "Tell me about your previous relationships. Have you been married before?" Derek/Heather: "Er. I was married very briefly and got an annulment." NRI: "Wow. What happened?!" Derek/Heather: "I was on a reality show on a bargain basement TV network." NRI: "Gosh, look at the time! I have to be somewhere."
-
Aw, c'mon. There would be zero discussion without snap judgments, baseless speculation, armchair diagnosing, and extrapolating our own singular experiences onto others. ;)
-
I don't think there was any one incident. Heather wasn't thrilled with Derek to start with although she tried to remain (semi) upbeat on the wedding day. Then she found fault with everything he did to support her initial distaste and it accumulated -- smoking, liking gambling, not unpacking, shouting at her, being messy, calling her names. Probably his job, clothes, smell, and everything else he ever said or did.

Well, Nick. If there's a conspiracy to hide certain "facts" from us, now's your chance. Or, you know, you could have tried to say something or act differently while you were being filmed 16 hours a day. His "fuck the haterz" video with the dog lapping his mouth already told me what I need to know about him. -
Heather was d-o-n-e. I guess props to her for not pretending and a continued mental mooning to Ashley who couldn't even extend David that courtesy. Whatever Nick's problems are, he is completely unsuited for this experiment, as were half the other gits who have been chosen. Did the casting announcement specifically ask for aimless Peter Pan men who are overly attached to their mothers/grandmothers? Because Doug, Vaughn, Ryan R., Ryan D., Derek, and Tom sure don't seem to want to let go of their bachelor lives and fucking grow up.

The invisible band introduction seems like something Stephen Wright would do and I find it amusing, but it doesn't strike me as being Trevor's type of humor at all so it's a little odd from that perspective. -

Now I'm going to watch it again just to put myself in a good mood! (And this clip should have been promoted on the PT.v home page instead of Bill Hader, seriously.)
