  1. If it has nothing to do with politics or policies, why not ignore it? If it's the rantings of a crazy man running his mouth over nothing, why not ignore it? Trump is abnormal. Why continue letting him suck the air out of the room over micro twitter beefs with celebrities? Me, too, and I don't know why a role from 2004 sticks in my head when I've forgotten what I watched last week.
  2. Oh, Dana. He exemplified my two least favorite panelist traits: never having seen the show and being shocked at everything, and acting as if the podium is his stage to hog. Loved seeing Janeane and MIB.
  3. There should be a permanent billboard outside the Sea Org building in Clearwater that gives a number to call for anyone who wants to escape. It's criminal that people are being held against their will. Classic technique for abusers to make their victims believe it's their fault and that they deserve the punishment.
  4. It's pretty ironic that Scientology calls everyone who disagrees or leaves a liar, cheat, con artist, slut, etc. I guess their religion didn't in fact fulfill its promise to make its adherents perfect spiritual beings.
  5. A coral reef with no fish is kind of bogus. I'm feeling sorry for the canvases in advance.
  6. Woot! I agree that the finalists should have open canvases and go to town tattooing their strengths, but we'll see. Even with no restrictions, we've had finalists flounder a bit. I was SO surprised when Nunez picked Kelly as best tattoo and Peck went with his own team member. Thank dog for Dave, as always.
  7. I feel kind of bad for Matt the actor/person having to assassinate a character he obviously cares about portraying. (Okay, some of that is carried over from The Good Wife because his character got shafted there as well.) If there's a Re-revived season, I'd like to see some self-examination by the leads. I don't necessarily need positive change (which is in the eye of the beholder anyway) but I want Rory and Lorelai to show a bit of introspection and awareness of what has brought them to this point. I want to know where the secondary characters -- Lane, Paris, Jess, Sookie -- are in their lives other than they exist. I want a couple of new, interesting cast members. I absolutely want Lorelai and Emily to quit holding onto grudges and pain from 30 years ago already.
  8. I was at my sister's once and noticed her putting a frozen food plastic dish in the recycling container. I told her those weren't recyclable and she was surprised -- never heard that. The info is available but the company here doesn't really bother giving explicit instructions. Like, their one-page instruction sheet says "cereal boxes" as if those are the only type of food boxes accepted. And what kind of office paper has "wax liners?" Does that mean envelopes with those cellophane windows? Only "old" corrugated cardboard? What's the date cutoff? Someone here told me that pizza boxes or any paper with grease stains shouldn't be recycled. No mention of that, either. What about paper bags and those brown recycled paper napkins that fast food restaurants give you 20 of with each order? Materials Accepted: Clear plastic bags only [Note: this refers to the bags that hold the recyclables, not dry cleaning bags or the like. I wouldn't blame a soul for not understanding that.] Aluminum food and beverage containers Glass food and beverage containers: brown, clear or green Ferrous (iron) cans PET plastic containers with the symbol #1: narrow neck containers only HDPE natural plastic containers with the symbol #2: narrow neck containers only (milk & water bottles) HDPE pigmented plastic containers with the symbol #2: narrow neck containers only (detergent, shampoo, bleach bottles, etc.; without caps) Plastics with symbols #3, #4, #5, #6, #7: narrow and screw top containers Newsprint, magazines, catalogs Old corrugated cardboard Cereal boxes Telephone books Printed paper Copier paper Mail All other office paper without wax liners
  9. I liked it as well. I was grateful for the lack of current-day romance and happy to see Hannah reunited with her husband. But mercy, do I dislike CCB's acting choices. I normally would have given this a hard pass just because of her, but the premise drew me in.
  10. VRC isn't large enough to be rated by Charity Navigator, but they provide suggestions for doing research on your own. It's mostly what to look for on the charity's 990 form. Perhaps others here may have more to offer.
  11. I'd be a lot more likely to watch another attempt if someone other than the Palladinos were in charge.
  12. The revival got me wondering how much more I might have liked the original show if had better actors. Lauren is good and carries much of the load, except that she's never been convincing to me in any of her romantic relationships. She doesn't soften or be present in the moment; even her kisses seem overlaid with Lorelai's brittle, self-protective snark. It's also weird that she had more chemistry with Luke during the early seasons with their unspoken undercurrent of attraction. Scott's acting is completely unsubtle and one-note. Alexis is the worst, sorry to say. She memorizes, then pushes out her lines in a rush. Everyone else in the cast, minor and major, was great, Kelly and Edward in particular. All the boyfriends of both Gilmores? Great. Townies and Rory's friends? Perfect. It's just the damned leads!
  13. For me, it's not so much that I mind Rory floundering in her career; that's actually realistic for a freelance writer. What totally bugs me is that so much was left to our imagination. Viewers and critics have made the case that Rory seemed at once too successful for someone her age and too unsuccessful to even have made a living. Which is it? Gah, Palladinos. (Of course in their la la la land, no time has actually passed and one fucking Talk of the Town piece is evidence of a lamination-worthy career.) I'm kind of neutral on the revival as a whole but was only a casual viewer of the original. Considering the number of likes given to positive/complimentary comments here, I wish more of those people would post to give me a more balanced perspective. It's like the old saying about customer service -- people will tell seven others about a negative experience but share positive experiences much less often. ;)
  14. Patterson and Graham are so wooden together, the thought of them pretending to be passionate makes me cringe. The subject does makes my mind wander to what Rory might be like in her sexual pursuits. She isn't squeamish, ashamed or repressed from what we see, and it can also be inferred that she and Logan remain mutually satisfied. But overall, I can't really picture Rory as a riotous sexual beast. Although sometimes it is the quiet ones.
  15. The best part of Alexis' interview with Fallon -- who said he's only now watching GG and is on season 3 -- was when he welcomed her to the show but said he was pretty mad at her right now. Heh.
  16. Great article, @Nick Rheinwald-Jones. It had occurred to me that, if any of the writers here or at TWoP had been given the "lines" article suggestion, they would have TORN IT UP. Readers would have laughed and been edified. I think proto-WASPS Emily and Richard would have a guest cottage. :)
  17. Sadly, the faithful are forbidden to watch. But maybe people who are considering joining will be put off. I'm interested to hear from some non-celebrity parishioners. In all my 60+ decades I've never met one Scientologist or known anyone who knew one, so don't have a sense of what their daily religious life is like. I know they also give a lot of money (relatively) to the church and have in some cases bankrupted themselves because of it, which is crazy on its own. The most recent 2008 American Religious Identification Survey* estimates that 25K people in the U.S. are Scientologists. I rummaged around the Scientology church locator and unless someone lives in a smallish town or rural area, there appears to be ready access. There are six within 30-90 minutes of me, which kind of seems like a lot for so few members. * This gave me a chuckle, in a "the company we keep" sort of way -- there are too few Scientologists to warrant a separate line on the survey's results so they're grouped under "New Religious Movements and Other Religions: Scientology, New Age, Eckankar, Spiritualist, Unitarian-Universalist, Deist, Wiccan, Pagan, Druid, Indian Religion, Santeria, Rastafarian."
  18. Thank you, Chuck Tingle! (Although when did "short stories" become "micro novels"?) From the Amazon description: Chris Hardwick is a busy man. He’s got podcasts, TV shows, and TV shows about TV shows. Suffice to say, when a mysterious hooded figure is found waiting for Chris outside of Buttmelt Comics before a live recording of his Poundist podcast, Chris doesn’t have much time to stop and chat.
  19. Only on TV does every wife and girlfriend know how to face a man and knot his tie for him. Tuxedo bowties as well.
  20. I thought the movie was okay for what it was, but man alive! Call 411, dude. Or make your mother give you the damned address.
  21. Yep, still. I have it in my queue for later; maybe bingeing will make it flow a little better for me. Does Chance continue acting like a besotted idiot?
  22. I'm glad we're getting to see more of Father Doug. The "not soccer bar" and confessional scenes cracked me up. Parishioner: "I masturbated 22 times yesterday." Father Doug: "That's just too much. You have to know that. Just cut back a little bit." I'm starting to feel bad for Jeff the Grey, being all abandoned and conscientious about work. The printer cartridge is indeed a cruel mistress.
  23. Who would you guys be arresting at this point? I still don't know if any of the red herrings will turn out to be the actual killer or if it's someone who seems guilty. I haven't ruled out Eric, either.
  24. Show biz trouper that she is, Leah has been doing a ton of interviews. I'm curious to see how widely viewed the show will be.
  25. The creators of Gilmore Girls had several years to reconsider their casting choices, but this month's revival remains a whiter shade of pale. (With the exception of Lane, whose "tiger mother" is ... not unstereotypical.)
