Season 4, the final season, is coming 7/31/23. Never saw it before but this is a summary of the show which is in my DVR display for the show and also on Rotten Tomatoes: Meanwhile, this is a summary of season 4 on the FX site: If you watch the promos FX is running now, you can guess what Luke’s bombshell is. Five years after season 3, which aired in 2022! So the kids will again be played by new actors. I think Ava was barely still a toddler in season 1. Interesting that they will cover most of Luke and Ava’s childhoods but parents and grandparents won’t have aged as much. But the adults and seniors have gone through a lot of changes in their lives as well. Or so the show is trying to depict.

House Hunters International - General Discussion

First time I was in Rome, I heard cars and mopeds rattle through those cobble stone streets, all damn night. I had to ask to move to a room away from the street. Yes it's possible to get used to noise, since people fall asleep watching TV or being near other sources of sound. Maybe they're used to it from London. -
The charters are either 1 or 2 nights. Sometimes 3 but it's relatively rare. So if they're giving out $15k for say a 3 night charter and that amount represents about 1/3, then that would mean they're paying $50k plus 15k for a 3 night charter. So the lowest it would be is about $22k per night. The charter party is what 6 to 8 guests? With 8 guests that would be under $3k per night or almost $9k for a 3-night charter. Steep but not out of reach for upper middle class people. HOWEVER, you really have to be a Bravo fan or want to be on TV bad enough to PAY to be on these shows. Even if you come off looking good on the show, which is becoming increasingly rare, you're helping them film a show from which Bravo will make millions. So why would you pay to help a cable TV channel, which is a part of a multi-billion dollar conglomerate (NBC-Universal?) make money? That's not even including the cost to fly to Europe or in this case, Australia, then probably stay before and/or after the shoot. I don't really see that many people willing to pay that much to be on Bravo shows. The real rich people, they can charter legit yachts, not what Bravo is conjuring up as representing luxury yacht charters. They can afford to pay for their privacy.

Do people really book 1 or 2 night charters and give $15-25k in tips as they've been showing in recent BD seasons? We're talking about leaving $10-$15k in tips per night stay. Come on, that's 2 or 3 meals in a 18-24 hour period, the crew put out water sports gear for you and maybe set up a beach picnic. Do some of these guests look like such high-rollers, they wouldn't blink at tossing that kind of money around? Maybe they did book legit charters at the beginning but I think a lot if not most of the guests are stunt casting and the tip is part of the show. In fact they make a big show out of it, like the little kid who had a briefcase of stacks of bills and he was handcuffed to it. I'm sure they're really going around with that much cash. As opposed to use credit cards and withdraw from the ATM as needed. Can you even withdraw 5 figures in cash out of ATMs for international transactions?

Boyd wasn't available to come to Detroit to hang with Raylan again. He's trying to get an evangelical version of Family Feud off the ground.😊 -
House Hunters International - General Discussion

Yeah I wonder how much they will be able to withstand the noise in the one they chose. On budget and with 2 bedrooms, near all the amenities. But that means they hear trams and buses late into the night. No AC apparently if they have to open windows in the summer. Wow that's crazy, a rent increase of 800 pounds a month. -
It's a fun ride but they got a big budget -- doesn't look like most UK shows -- and they had to come up with a lot of episodes, probably more than could be easily justified by the plot. So they've had a couple of fillers, including this one, about forcing a landing. But the hijackers are threatened as well and they are on a suicide mission if necessary to protect their families? In any event, Sam walks around the plane and the hijackers let him, while the old mother outwits and outruns the veteran detectives. It's too bad this is a one-off. Sam could be an interesting character with a different plot to use for other seasons but they couldn't keep calling it Hijack.

In one of the later episodes, Daisy was more firm when Gary tried grabbing her. So assuming it wasn’t editing shenanigans, she might have been able to stop Gary’s behavior earlier on. Or at least give negative feedback. Gary is persistent but we haven’t seen that he would force himself when it was made clear that his advances were unwanted.

So do they depict the older characters at university, beyond life at the high school? Ratings must be good for Netflix to keep them on for 8 seasons. But it's mainly soap opera featuring young actors playing teens in the last couple of seasons?

Season 1 was good, right at the peak of the pandemic, they didn't hew as closely to the standard BD formulas. Right off the bat, with this group of guests, you can tell Bravo has taken full control to make BDDU conform to the franchise, the way they did with BDSY. They're able to assemble an international crew from all over the world yet they somehow cast the same trashy American guests and go to the trouble of getting them all to Australia. Americans do visit Cairns but you know these guests aren't about marine life. Right off the bat they're demanding, rude, don't even pretend to be civil for even one day. That's got to be coached up by the producers. Who is so rude to people they've just met? Or maybe they got to meet the crew before filming started and there was enough familiarity built up to bring out the contempt so soon. I also think Laura is prodded to do her makeup thing, first at the start and then later when she changed to the black dress for dinner service. If she continues to spend too much time glamming it up and there's a confrontation, it's probably the producers encouraging her to be defiant of the superiors, the way Benny was in season 1. But one of the clips seems to show Jason is going to fire someone so maybe he has more power now, with pandemic restrictions over, they probably have some replacement cast members stashed away at a hotel in port. So season 1, the Polish chick used too much data to FaceTime her boyfriend back in Poland and she wasn't getting her work done. In season 2, will the Latvian chick spend too much time painting her face to get her work done? What is it with these Northern Europeans? Does cold weather mean makeup is even more important? Or as she suggested, she is up for boat-mance -- she's turning 30! so she can't waste time? That's gold for any BD show.

S03.E06: For Out of the Heart Comes Evil Thoughts

I don’t know, those little girls could be traumatized. BJ getting violent like that is out of character. Keefe getting jealous of Tamryn is also somewhat expected. First time we’ve seen him get cross with Kelvin? Now Peter seems ready to show he’s after revenge, though Eli would have bailed him out of the situation with the buckets — get it, bail out with buckets? But why would all his partners follow him other than expectations of a bIg payday? -

I can’t get enough of the doll. She says funny things and even seems to have expressions where she seems to be rolling her eyes or looking at the camera after someone says some inane thing. -
I've heard it before, somewhere. Either on TV or online. Always assumed short or slang for aggressive.

I wonder if Emmy awards lead to greater money for the actors. Especially those who've won previously. For the studio or show owners and networks, there might be prestige and future increases in market value. I wonder if Emmy awards lead to more subscribers for HBO. Otherwise, I don't understand the appeal for viewers. (Similar for Oscars too. Back in the day, studios spent a lot on full page ads in newspapers when a movie won an Academy award and they could put the Oscar logo prominently in the ads. But now, nobody is reading newspapers to learn about movies, they're reading reviews or watching trailers online.) For shows in the Prestige TV era, it seems more word of mouth and reviews that build momentum. Succession benefitted from positive critical reception and word of mouth but the momentum had to build up, didn't get a big audience right off the bat.

They really rely on Wi-Fi on a plane being so good to allow smooth, uninterrupted communications to advance the plot. I can see messages working well but not sure about voice calls. They might have been able to send low enough resolution photos. Its clever the ways Sam finds to let people in the UK know there’s been a hijacking but his first message to wife should have just said hijack instead of serious incident but they wanted that discovery to unfold over a few episodes. Hijacking may be about making the Uk govt release certain prisoners? The chief hijacker told another that they‘re doing it for some people he names. The Home Secretary receives a list of demands it was going to be found out by tHe time the plane arrived in the UK. The young who got stabbed complained that they weren’t suppose to kill anyone on the plane yet they have people in both Dubai and UK killing people or ready to kill. It’s exciting for so much to happen on board, such as being shot down but typically, hijackers hold passengers hostage after plane landed when making demands. And they often end up with commandos breaking into the plane.

HOTD In The Media: News From The Citadel

Maybe they favor American actors or at least those who live in Hollywood, with the Emmy voters. I'm guessing actors socialize or run into some of the Emmy voters now and then. -
My DVR shows Reunion Part 1 before season premier of BDDU and Part 2 on Tuesday. May want to check the Bravo website.

Yeah it sure looks like they wrapped up the story. Probably planned for one season all along, though Apple labels it Season Finale. Maybe one season is the only commitment they could get from Rogen and Byrne. But Sylvia has to take care of her family and now a business and Will has a regular job and a fiancé so they wouldn't be able to hang out. Even this season, they hung out way too much for people of their age, one of them having family responsibilities. On the one hand, great to get these leads, probably help attract some viewers. OTOH, they have other projects they could do so they may not be willing to commit to more than one season. But a lot of fun antics, there is some growth for Will but it was mostly light comic fun, nothing heavy.

House Hunters International - General Discussion

Yeah those houses were expensive for what they were, none of them renovated, pretty cluttered. The wife talked up a traditional Japanese style but that second house, whatever they saved on rent would be more than offset going to the orthopedist for their backs, necks and knees. They were going to rent their house out back in Washington state but it sounded like they planned to stay more than a year. She was going to get her masters degree and then teach at the military base. -
How dumb was the ABC party. Where do they get these people? Daisy and Colin said they were going to spend some time off the boat. But it's apparently just a couple of nights before they each go their separate ways. They probably knew this all along, so they played it up for the show, like this was some serious thing and they had to overcome the obstacle Gary was. There's no longer even a pretense that these shows are representative of what work is like on these yacht charters.

The Challenge in the Media: "The road to [fame] is straight and narrow."

Hmm, so they get some vets like Bananas and Wes how many different shows a year? They get to film year round at this rate. -
These guests were cast for the throuple gimmick. Also they're going around in thongs and preening. Those brilliant minds thought it would make for good TV to have some "colorful" people on.

I wasn't too convinced by this episode. They're trying to explain their extreme behavior as adults going back to what, she seeing her dad cheat and him being bullied or made fun of? Thing about Amy's flashback is that it's right after the sex with the random guy and she sees the witch being screwed from behind like she was. The same witch she saw as a high school senior? So her weird sexual predilection connects to her memory of seeing her dad how? Strange juxtaposition. Also why is she fighting for the marriage or willing to give everything up to have custody of the daughter? She seems preoccupied with many things other than the little girl. George also wasn't doing it for her sexually so again, why try to avoid divorce? As a little kid, Danny wants his younger brother to always be with him. But as teens or young adult, was he willing to sabotage his brother's future as depicted or was he jealous that Paul was about to go off to college while he was being a handy man? Paul already had a snotty attitude then. And his plan to frame Amy wasn't going to work. They have the Ring doorbell showing he was at the house and the glove he planted, he touched it with his bare hands. Also the fire inspector told him that arson isn't covered by insurance, so what is his motive for trying to frame Amy? Starting to suspect that they committed to too many episodes. It should have been 6 or at max 8 episodes. These are suppose to be messed up people but to sustain the hate months, maybe over a year afterwards? In the first half of the season, the road rage is depicted as impulse control, anger management. But then they drop this, tries a facile way to explain their childhood made them likely to have this conflict and sustain it for so long. Seems like NF wanted 10 episodes and this dark comedy about road rage didn't really have enough to produce that many episodes. Now I haven't seen the final 2 episodes yet but they've already strung this incident way too far.

Eventually the Blu Ray box sets could get discounted. Surprising because in general, TV shows aren't released on box sets automatically like they used to be.

Was that really an evangelical church? It seems it was mostly families with parents in the 30s and 40s. They had some kind of Christian rock music too, not just playing a simple organ or piano for the hymns. A lot of these seem to be second generation Asian-Americans or maybe they are first generation who came to the US as kids. They don't really seem to code switch, they seem to be modeling American behavior. Like in that church, there was no Korean or other language spoken than English. But since their elderly parents weren't there, no reason to speak other languages? I don't get Danny's desire to bring his parents back from Korea. Maybe they prefer it there with other family? So he's putting pressure on himself to come up with money, not just to put them up in some place but he wants a nice place, that plot of land with a view. Him building by himself is going to take a long time. Also don't understand, he's going to get the church to take out a loan and use those funds to use as downpayment for a loan for himself for that land? Church has only seen him once or twice and they're going to trust the guy because he promised to donate his labor? Contractors are notoriously unreliable. They'd be dumb to front him all that money upfront. I also don't get why Amy is so desperate to sell. She's the breadwinner and that store apparently provides them a great lifestyle. It's great if she can net millions from the sale but she's still relatively young. Is she going to get enough money to provide for her family for the rest of their lives? Also, it's just a store right, so why are they talking about term sheets? Jordan has private jet wealth but she's interested in a store that sells little plants? If Amy wants time off, why doesn't she hire someone to manage day to day? If the store doesn't generate enough income for her not to work, then how can it generate a big enough purchase price that she doesn't have to work at all? They have a big nut with the car, the house, the fancy security systems, etc.
