  1. I agree with everything that Ohmo said above. Just makes more sense that Brenda would kill her husband than anybody else. Especially with a gun kept in a kitchen drawer (don't we all have junk drawers with scotch tape, broken rubber bands, various pens that don't work, and .. guns!) Actually, I really want more of a deep dive into Brenda and Buddy's marriage. Dateline kind of alluded to it with all of the stuff about he wanted to do this and that and the other thing and she always went along with it. You really have to wonder about the possible amount of simmering resentment this woman had for years, and I think that it probably was the tax audit/investigation that finally made her crack. My guess is that she was a very passive-aggressive type of person and rarely (if ever) actually blew up in anger at her husband. Maybe he was a domineering jerk (they didn't seem to interview any of his employees) and she learned to go along to get along. And why didn't they have children? Was is a choice that they both made (if they couldn't have their own, there could be adoption) or was it HIS choice? just lots of questions that could possibly be a clue in why she did what she did. And did anybody think that she looked much more stylish when she was arrested than she did while her husband was still alive? She looked better with the short grey hair than she did with that dowdy dyed long hair with bangs. Maybe she finally felt "free" - women's hair can say a lot.
  2. I really enjoy this show as long as I check logical reasoning at the door. That being said, I really like the cast and they have great chemistry together. It's also satisfying to have the good guys win most of the time. Hair, makeup, and clothes are mostly on point (I agree that Mel looks better with the more natural looking makeup; that shade of red they use on her is wrong). Even the teenager is getting easier to like this season.
  3. So does anybody think the Vicky White/Casey White case is going to wind up on Dateline? That woman must have had some kind of serious Bonnie and Clyde fantasy. I guess the cops weren't going to take her alive in any case.
  4. You (and everybody else above) said it all - took the words out of my mouth. And this episode reminded me of the photo of a "Keep Portland Weird" bumper sticker somebody posted on my FB feed a few years back. Portland seems, um, weird indeed.
  5. Well I felt totally ripped off with Part 2. It was mostly a rehash of Part 1 with a more recent interview thrown in as the bonus. Mrs. Shelton is what my mother would call "a broken down tomato". Hard to believe that she has gotten away with so much but she is smart enough to let somebody else's hands actually get dirty (with the exception of shooting the guy in the back). Her husband is serving a life sentence - amazing how it was HIS DNA found on the discarded items near the one murder scene. Probably was a win/win for her - her enemy's husband was dead and her husband was behind bars, which was probably fine by her. And in a state where people get put on death row for a lot less than what she has done, she gets off scott free and can laugh like hell at both the reporters and their audience.
  6. So did anybody watched this weekend's Part 1 about the female disbarred Texas lawyer Catherine Shelton? Talk about a WTF story. Bodies drop like flies around this broad yet nothing seems to happen to her. And that's in a state where people seem to get sentenced to death in cases where there is less evidence than what they can pin on this woman. One ex-boyfriend- a doctor whom she apparently only dated for a few months and then sued him for half his assets claiming they were common-law married - was murdered in his garage. A man who could have possibly been implicated in that murder wound up being murdered himself, and there is more coming. One ex-boyfriend joined the Marines to escape her (probably prevented him from being killed) and they interviewed yet another ex-boyfriend who she actually shot in the back and yet she got let off the hook in that case ("self-defense" - yeah the guy GOT SHOT IN THE BACK as he was trying to leave). I'm waiting for Part 2 to air this coming Saturday.
  7. I can't add much to what has already been said but Michelle got away with murder. The jury had it right. And did anybody else notice her body language when she was being filmed asking for whoever took her son to bring him back? She would sort of turn her head away and downturn her eyes which to me said that she was lying and knew damn well that her child hadn't been kidnapped. This seems to me to be the case of a woman who just got sick of being tied down with a young child and wanted "out". It was probably easier to kill him than to dump him on other family members to turn him over to foster care. I think that if her sister hadn't moved to Florida, the boy would not have been murdered as it sounded as if the older sister did much of the child care work in the family. And no surprise that she sticks by Michelle while writing off the niece as a lying, wanting revenge drug addict. Better to think ill of the drug addict than to come to grips with the fact that your beloved "little sister" murdered her five year old child.
  8. Really good episode - I enjoyed Robyn's detective work and the lack of shoot 'em outs and chase scenes. I also enjoyed their take on "12 Angry Men" but also how they had most of the jurors originally closed minded about the case and with the attitude of "we just want to go the hell home". Makes you wonder how many innocent people get locked up and guilty ones are still out on the street because somebody else got convicted, although most of the time, I still believe that the police get it right in who they arrest. This show still has a great hair/makeup & wardrobe crew. Loved Mel's boots and Robyn's sweaters but that Granny Square thing - no, just plain no. Talk about an Ugly (actually Fugly is more the term) sweater. And some hipster fashionista type would pay $800 for that thing? Those Granny Squares need to stay back in the 70s where they belong (and if I only had my Granny Square midi-skirt from 1971.... not that I could fit into it but. it was a helluva lot more attractive than that sweater). Sigh.
  9. Kind of makes you wonder about prison. And I looked at my prior post re "Dexter" and realized what a hypocrite I am as I watched all 4 seasons of "Killing Eve". Talk about a show that glamourized a psychopathic killer! Somebody punish me by making me watch some reality tv like The Kardashians. Something where it's only people's reputations get sliced and diced rather than their bodies...
  10. It's a shame that the first guy (talk about lucky!) didn't go to the police after he escaped - maybe the 2nd guy would still be alive. Frankly, I never watched "Dexter" and never will. I don't understand making killers into heroes; especially killers who seem to take such glee in killing their victims. It just glamourizes such sickness. And it's hard to believe that this weirdo murderer is actually going to be up for parole next year. If you ask me, he should've gotten the chair but I don't think that Canada has capital punishment.
  11. My guess is was because of his age. He was 10 years older than me and I can still remember the civil rights marches on the nightly news and seeing black protesters have fire hoses turned on them. He grew up in the segregated South in his grandmother's home so he probably heard plenty from the old folks. Black people at that point may not have been slaves but they still had a precarious lot in life. Look at a white person the wrong way and God knows what could happen to you. His grandmother was a grown woman in 1920s America and that period of time saw a big growth in the KKK. Most of the black guests on FYR have been younger people who didn't grow up having to drink from a different water fountain or in fear of being lynched, so they are that much farther from the experience of slavery and Jim Crow than an older southern black man like Andre Leon Talley,
  12. I was a bit disappointed with last night's episode. The only one of the three I was familiar with was Andre Leon Talley and there was very little on him. I had read his memoir and he had a very interesting life, although he came off as somewhat bitter in the memoir. He started his career back in the days when there was still a lot of class in the world of fashion and things changed. He also seemed to feel that losing his looks (he had been a very handsome man when he was younger) also hastened the end of his career. I guess that one can more easily get bitten by the sharks in shallow waters. As for the two women, I didn't find either's ancestors all that interesting, other than the pastor being accused of witchcraft and then him blaming his wife. Ah, the good old days when times were rotten... I was also envious of Erin Burnett in how she kind of stumbled into her career. Some people really have the luck to be in the right place at the right time or know the right people. For a person who had no background in journalism, she certainly lucked out there.
  13. I believe that I said something months ago that Missy Peregrym was pregnant because of how she started wearing very loose shirts and then she always had a jacket on and even with the jacket, they started shooting her above the waist. Last night's episode was obviously the actress going out on maternity leave while "Maggie" recovers from her ordeal. It was a pretty decent episode but I guess there are no SWAT teams located north of NYC? You'd think if they could helicopter up the two agents, they could also helicopter up some backup. Eye roll here.
  14. I originally liked Torres as an addition to the team - he was somewhat lighthearted and fun at times. Since Gibbs and Bishop left (taking their beyond boring angst with them), the show has turned Torres into a moody, whiny, angry alcoholic. So now he's the guy picking up all the angst we got rid of with the other two. Show, give us a break. I'd say that most of us want the crime of the week and our heroes catching the bad guys. Who the hell watching a crime show wants to watch the heroes in therapy - this isn't Dr. Phil or Iyanla Fix My Life or Ophra. I like Dr Grace and I had even liked Jack (remember her?) but c'mon already! The other day I read that they are bringing on an actress to play Parker's ex-wife and it's going to be for multi episodes. So that will either be angst filled or they'll be the "cute" bickering back and forth exes. Another trope I can't f-ing stand.
  15. No, the trial hasn't started yet.
  16. Here is one that might eventually make it to Dateline - very new story : https://nypost.com/2022/04/18/orsolya-gaal-was-stabbed-nearly-60-times-police-sources/ Nice Jewish family living in an upscale neighborhood; very attractive victim. The 13 year old son was arrested and then released. Her husband and older son were on the west coast. I'd say that maybe hubby paid somebody to kill her as he'd have an alibi, but stabbing somebody 60 times is really personal. A paid killer would probably just shoot her and make it quick. This is going to be an interesting case.
  17. OMG - that Dentist Daughter photo - and that is on the website? WHAT are they selling? No doubt in my mind that the dentist killed his wife - goes back to means and motive and he had those in spades. By killing the wife he had a win/win situation. He probably knew that the local investigation would be subpar (and who knows, maybe he paid off that local "investigator") and he gets the bonuses of $5 million in life insurance AND doesn't have to split the business and marital assets with an ex-wife! And it wouldn't surprise me in the least if the side piece knew of his plan or maybe suspected it. One thing that bugged me (and I had to hold my hand in front of my face every time they showed up pictures of those murdered animals) - they kept saying how the dead wife/victim had been such a loving and kind person. Gee, in what world do "kind" people get their kicks killing large animals (and she was really, really, hoping to add a leopard to her collection of death) with high powered guns and topped with modern high tech gun sights. Not much of a "sport" in my mind. The poor animals never have any kind of a chance. And to end here, 48 Hours mentioned how the kids have been "supportive" of their father. Yeah, ok. Your mother dies in suspicious circumstances in a 3rd world country, your father cremates her within days and then moves in with his girlfriend in like a few weeks. AND YOU SUPPORT YOUR FATHER. I guess you don't want to piss off the guy with the bucks - can't bring back Mom...
  18. I have to agree - this season was kind of a clusterfuck. I understood why they introduced Pam but it didn't become apparent until the final episode. Had no idea why they had Gunn - it just seemed like a waste of time and an excuse for Eve to gouge somebody's eyes and Villenelle to get in a good quip. That young twerp (the guy who now seemed to be Carolyn's boss or handler or whatever) seemed to be there for some odd comic relief. And did anybody else scratch their head why they had Anton Lesser do like a 2 minute cameo? I totally agree with the person upthread who said that they could have condensed this into a two hour movie. With all of the commercials, each episode was a bit over 30 minutes (yeah, there were A LOT of commercials). With keeping the ending they gave us, two hours would have probably been more than enough.
  19. I had heard of Regina King but not of Damon Lindlehoff. Never watched either "Lost" of "Watchmen" (love the graphic novel and the show seemed as if it strayed from it). The stories were more or less of the same old thing. The stain of slavery, Jewish people escaping from Eastern Europe and left behind family members being slaughtered during WWII. On one hand it gets repetitious after hearing about this so many times, on the other hand, modern Americans really need to be educated about these horrible parts of human history. It outrages me that politicians rail against teaching about the truth of American history in schools and it also outrages me that so many people are now saying the Holocaust never happened. As a nation we must NEVER forget these things. I don't know if PBS makes Finding Your Roots available as a teaching tool for use in schools, but if not, they should. The show humanizes history in ways that most text books can't. I thought that Regina King seemed so "real" (unlike some of the other actresses we've seen on the show). She obviously was very emotionally touched by what she was learning. And this show shines a light about all the family secrets that past generations kept in the closet! Unfortunately, generations down the line wind up opening those closets either by accident or on purpose and the skeletons hit them on the head.
  20. You really had to feel bad for that poor husband (victim) in this case. And I laughed that I am not the only one who couldn't figure out what all these men saw in her. From the early photos, I guess she was nice enough looking but she sure as hell was no Angelina Jolie. And at the time of the murder - I guess it shows that looks aren't everything. This case brings me back to wondering if these psychos who'd rather murder their spouse rather than divorce them have any kind of religious or spiritual values. I look at it like, ok, so I bump off the spouse and get the 600K life insurance (and nowadays, that's not a whole lot) but is that worth your soul being subjected to eternal punishment (or at least until the next reincarnation)? And I'm not saying that means you're going to have somebody with horns, a tail and trident roasting you over flames but there is going to be some kind of punishment for doing something so morally reprehensible.
  21. I wasn't all that surprised that Villenelle died after killing off what was left of The Twelve - in a way it was like a "Live by the Sword, Die by the Sword" moment. In the first season she was a totally psychopathic remorseless killer and somewhere along the line she became a character that we started to root for (due to a combo of writing and Jodi Comer's amazing portrayal). My take is that Eve started off as a decent person and got sucked into the dark side and Villenelle was like her shadow side. The rainbow to the beige. I actually liked the scene on the boat where Eve is having such fun at the party and Villenelle is almost radiant while killing off the Twelve (or what was left of them). Frankly, there was no way that relationship was meant to last. Villenelle "freed" Eve in one way but imprisoned her in another. It was interesting that the people left standing (so to speak) at the end were Eve (who started out on the side of "right"), Carolyn (who also probably started out as one of the good guys but is now in some sort of grey area and maybe is trying to get back to the good side) and Pam who got sucked into the dark side and had the luck (Helene being killed) and sense to get out before it was too late. In a way, I wish that Konstanin had lived but he had contributed too much to the dark side to survive. I liked Carolyn and the actress really nailed the part. If the spin off is going to be about Carolyn (present day, not the young version) I'd probably watch it.
  22. Yes! To all of the above. And yeah, the video of Becky holding the bloody kitchen knife was the hi-light of this episode. And I have to agree with whoever said that the victim was kind of "a whackadoodle" - she might have been a good mother to her children but there seemed to be something a bit off there too. And what I don't understand is why she and her ex-husband built those two motels in that part of Arkansas. It's not as if there is really anything "there". Not the Ozarks and unless there is a major highway there, what's the point? Looked like standard "no tell motels" to me. Maybe there is a lot of "sin" going on in that Bible Belt town? And yeah, God help America with all of this bullshit conspiracy stuff. I remember the good old days when conspiracy theories were fun - and usually about stuff like the Roswell crash and Men In Black, and the Illuminati. You also had to read about this stuff in BOOKS - and had to actively search out the books at that. Now, all you do is turn on the computer and it's all out there on social media. The fact that Q Anon actually had so many people believing it is a real wake up call. If you look at countries that have dictatorships, you see that conspiracy theories are also part of the national psyche. Democracy can not hold when you have an uneducated populace who will believe almost everything outlandish that they read on Facebook. For some strange reason, it seemed that the day Hillary Clinton remarked something to the effect that she hadn't wanted to stay at home and bake cookies that she became the lighting rod for every type of evil thing a politician could be behind. And the weird thing is, at one time, the Clintons were very popular in Arkansas. And when this murder happened people whispered that they were behind killing a FORMER state senator who nobody outside of Arkansas had ever heard of. I still don't get it.
  23. One hates to say that a victim had it coming, but this Arte guy wound up learning the hard way that humiliating employees and then further treating them badly by not paying them didn't turn out well for him in the end. I agree with sainte-chapelle above in that something stank in Arte Land. Either he didn't have all the money that he appeared to be hiving high on the hog on or he was just the type of asshole who got off on treating people badly and using people. He certainly didn't seem to make any provisions for his girlfriend/business partner, so what does that even say about him? I wouldn't have been surprised to learn that he had hidden any financial contributions that she made to the business so in case of a breakup, she wouldn't get a dime, including any money she had invested in the business. He just seems like the type of guy who would do that. Good luck to her in fighting his estate (whoever they may be) to recover any money. And if she had been an astute business person, she would have had a contract or something drawn up showing her investment and what her place in the business was.
  24. This made me think of a really funny video that used to be on YT (I say "used to be" because I searched for it and it has apparently been removed) called "Jersey Girl" and it featured a young woman (who was a familiar Jersey Shore - or Long Island "type") and all the different ways she could say "what the fuck". It was really a classic.
  25. Wow - as a person living on Long Island, I thought, "Where is Amy Fisher when we need her?" Seriously though, I had been following this case in the local papers and always wondered what the boyfriend was like as he seemed to be a Bozo when written about in the newspapers. I can't believe that the guy has gone on national tv instead of hiding under a rock and changing his name. What kind of person would allow somebody else to dictate that he can't see his own daughter and to banish her to live with others. Valerie was an attractive enough woman but she still wasn't all that and even if she was, my God, what was DiBlubber thinking? Dateline did help clear up some questions that I had about why the Feds dropped the murder for hire case and why she only got 4 years in prison (and will be out in two). They didn't really go into how her father (also NYPD) had some connections, which had been brought up in the local papers. Frankly, if I were Diblubber, I'd be looking over my shoulder when she gets out and ditto her ex-husband. She certainly has cojones wanting custody of her son when she gets out of prison. And does anybody else wonder about what happened to her daughter? Dateline didn't tell us - did she end up with Valerie's family or her father's family? Valerie wasn't an idiot in how she pushed getting the hitman off on DiBlubber. That way her hands looked clean and she could say that it wasn't her idea - it was really that the boyfriend cooked up the plot and then carried it out. The entire thing was really clumsy and shame on the FBI for not getting enough proof to make the charges stick. And lastly, I had to laugh when Dateline kept showing us those beautiful houses on the water in "Shirley". Those houses are not in Shirley - I believe that area is called Point Lookout and you have to drive through Shirley to get there. Shirley is a very blue collar area which gets eye rolls from people living in nicer areas. It's basically if you want your kids to be in a "good" school district, you try not to move to Shirley.
