  1. Please excuse me if I'm incorrect because I'm not Anglican, but wouldn't pre-marital sex still be considered a sin back in the 1950s? And in what appears to be a relatively small town, everybody knows everybody and Will's sleeping around would be talked about. For those times, it just doesn't seem realistic but neither is it where the top cop there would have a non-white fiance. And speaking of, you almost have to feel bad for that guy who has a fiance who seems to think nothing of meeting a guy in a jazz joint and going off to bed with him. Especially in the 1950s where such young women who behaved like that were judged harshly and usually called words beginning with s , t, or w.
  2. Is anybody else still watching this show? Last night's episode was just a "rehash" (Skinwalker's greatest hits) done as a meeting in a fancy office building. It was ok that George Knapp was in on the meeting; he's been reporting on UFO stuff for like 40 years. Wondering what the EX Governor of Utah was doing there, but I suppose that former Governors have a lot of connections (unless they are Andrew Cuomo, and nobody's taking HIS calls). It seems that Oak Island has turned into some kind of tourist destination; I wonder if the people involved with this show will be looking at that angle, though controlling tour groups on such a large property might be hard to do. You have to give Prometheus Entertainment credit for becoming a really successful company by finding about all this weird stuff and turning it into tv shows which can cut and paste themselves into years long runs.
  3. Maybe next season will have her in the 1920s version of Rehab (AA wasn't invented yet) - or we can see her throwing back a few with Fitzgerald and Hemingway. Oh, they were in Paris, not Portofino but why bother with nitpicky details.
  4. Are they setting up Will to be Sidney 2.0? If so, no thanks. I didn't realize that Georgie and Kathy had decided to separate last season - took me a couple of minutes to figure it out this episode. So the actress who plays Maya - where have we seen her before? After a while, you watch enough British TV, you seem to see the same actors. I've certainly seen the actress who played the younger sister as well. Wonder if the other Vicar (the one away on his honeymoon) will be back or if he's been written off for the season? Loved Leonard as a Beatnik but for some reason I didn't think a Beat coffee house would have those pink and turquoise walls. I really hope that he makes a success out of the place. Trouble is brewing (pun intended) with Mrs. C - hopefully, it doesn't involve her husband. And of course, the new head cop is a Dick - because why wouldn't he be? I'm beginning to think that British TV could use some new writers, or at least ones who don't keep recycling the same stuff over and over.
  5. Yes! To both JudyObsure & Driad. I'm starting to find this series really unengaging. Too many people to keep track off and it just seems like somebody had the bucks to take a beautiful bunch of young people and photograph them in a beautiful setting and throw in some PG rated sexual situations and call it a TV show. And yeah, the writing is awful and a waste of some good actors. Back in the 80s, there was a show starring Connie Selleca and I think, James Brolin, called "Hotel". If I remember correctly, it was more of an anthology type of show, where you'd have some drama with the leads but it was mainly about guests who came and went at the hotel, so it would be a mostly new cast week to week. I think that this show would've really worked out better that way rather than having this cast of characters all staying at this hotel for weeks on end. Also, how weird that out of everybody at that hotel who isn't Italian, the only person who seems to speak Italian is Bella. Oh well, we're already at the half way point of this series, I'll finish it up but don't know if I'll watch a 2nd season.
  6. Well, this week's episode was kinda sorta interesting (I actually stayed awake for the entire episode). One would guess that the equipment that got sent up in that first rocket would have been trashed and must have cost some bucks. At this point, you have to say that something strange might be going on or these guys really don't know what the hell they are doing. And the UFO (or whatever it is) showing up during the fiasco. I really wonder about what gets left on the cutting room floor. And they still never got back to those "lights in the sky" we saw a number of episodes back.
  7. I love this forum as you folks are really able to hit the nail on the head with your comments. If this had been a run-of-the mill crime show rather than "Endeavour", I would have been ok with this final episode as over the top ridiculous as it was. It made me think of a movie I saw a few nights ago on TCM - "Murder By Death" ( for those of you who haven't seen it, it's a comedic spoof of 1930s/40s murder mysteries). I think the aspect of this episode which disappointed me the most was the character assassination of Winn. We've seen her near catatonically depressed when Joan had left the family home with no communication, and we've seen her angry and upset when Thursday lost his retirement money, but we've never seen her as such a nasty, mean bitch. Frankly, it was rather shocking and I give the actress props for being really able to sell it, but it seemed so out of left field. Characters change and hopefully "grow" but as in real life, people become broken. We've been watching the young, hopeful, Endeavour turn into a heartbroken, cynical, alcoholic. But we've also seen Joan start to come into her own. But Winn - ... she acts like somebody who has been hitting the bottle and hitting it hard. All I can think is that the writer is setting us up for something really bad next season, but why does it also feel as if he's also giving the show's fans a Bronx cheer? Now I REALLY wish that they would have ended it with Season 6. Sigh.
  8. I think that the "magic powers" were in the many bottle of alcohol apparently consumed. I kept thinking, man, those people are all gonna have some awful hangovers in the morning. Maybe Lucien will have more interest in Rose now that he's seen that she likes to par-tay.
  9. Was there a significance in how the step mother just wrote her new address on the note and addressed it as "Morse" ? I've never seen the original "Morse" series so I wonder if I am missing out on some of what they are now showing us.
  10. Opps! I think that the woman with the locket with the baby photo was actually Constance, the nanny/maid. Or am I now totally confused? The young English women in this show all kind of look alike to me.
  11. Yes! And wanna place any bets that Paola is going to wind up "in a family way"? The triangle between Lucian, Rose, and Constance will wind up a rectangle (or we can also throw in the Indian guy and now have a pentagon).
  12. This second episode was much better than last week's. I guess that Endeavour's step mother was thrown in to give us some more of his backstory: his father drove a cab and left him and his mother for another woman who very obviously resented him. "We took you in!" she screamed at him - like lady, he was your husband's SON. And she was being very high and mighty and moral in her indignation that some couple were "staying in the same room and not being married". Yet she apparently had an affair with a married man who she took away from his family. The woman was a first class bitch and harridan and its a wonder that Endeavor even let her stay there. There were a lot of red herrings in this episode. The thing about the episode being about "couples" certainly eluded me. I had an inkling who the killer was from two things: him talking about his daughter (and all her names) and that her photo was in some magazines. I thought she looked like the model that Bright was painting and I also thought she looked like the girl in the porn movie. And it also seemed to be a big connection to the taxi cab company and the murders - I also wondered if the creepy cabby had something to do with the murders and worried that he was going to come after Joan (well, he knew where she lived). Unfortunately, I have to agree with Alistaire in wondering if we have a foreshadowing of what is going to happen to Thursday. I didn't get a good feeling when he said what he did to the London corrupt cop (not sure if the guy was still a cop and obviously involved with the sex trade or if he was an ex-cop who switched sides). This is going to go further for sure and I don't think that the Thursdays are going to get a happy ending. And with their son serving in Northern Ireland at that period of time - too much chance for tragedy. A few years ago I read an interview with Shaun Evans where he said that he didn't want to continue with "Endeavour" past the late 60s or so because he felt that it would be getting too close to the "Morse" era and that they would have to show the transition to the character being Morse. Seems as if that's what they are now doing. I would have been happy (in a sad way) if they would have ended the show in Season 6 with that epic showdown. And finally, about the names. When I was in the Air Force, we had a guy in our squad named Daniel Strange and another guy named James Looney. They got kidded a lot and we all used to joke that our squad was the only one on the base with a Loony AND a Strange.
  13. I thought it was the daughter, Alice, who was looking at the locket, and yes, one space was empty and the other had a picture of a very young child. Maybe it will turn out that Alice was never married and had a child out of wedlock or that who ever the child's father is, he would be thought of as "unacceptable". And Alice was snubbed by some hoity toity Englishwoman in town. I suspected that the new governess/maid had a child - from what we saw of her letter I think I'm correct.
  14. I think that the "exotic" lady is going to be a Josephine Baker type of person (singer/dancer/possible actress). The man she is traveling with alluded to being a high end art dealer - I think that is going to be just a cover story. For some reason, I'm thinking that maybe the little girl's father (Bella's daughter's husband) was possibly killed in WW1, but not sure if the child is old enough for that to be the case. So many women of that generation were widowed young because of the war, and so many young women never married because there was a shortage of eligible men. Americans today really have no idea of what a horror WW1 really was and the terrible loss of life involved. And then you had the Spanish Flu of 1918/19 that followed in the wake and killed many millions of more people.
  15. The location is stunning and love the house, and costumes. It seems as if everybody except Rose and maybe the Irish maid, Old Lady (she is still dressing as if it's 1902) and the young girl (niece of the old lady) all have secrets. I'm kind of feeling that Lucien is "supposed" to fall in love with Rose (at least his father and Rose's mother want that) but will instead wind up falling for the new Governess with A Past (and not a penny to her name). And this being 2022, I wouldn't doubt if the young medic is in love with Lucien. Whatever, this is an eye-candy soap opera and there isn't much else on TV during the summer. My main complaint is that there are so many characters that you need a written program or spread sheet to keep track of them all.
  16. I watch in "real time" (Sunday nights channel 13) so no spoilers will come from me (plus I hate that too). Anyway, I don't understand those of you who feel that Thursday (and his wife!) are "cold". My take on that time and culture is that people weren't supposed to act warm and fuzzy but to keep that stiff upper lift. And I can sure understand Mrs. Thursday's anger when she found out that her husband lent their retirement savings to his problematic brother without so much as discussing it with her first. I do think that Joan might be a narcissist but she seems to want to help people and her comment to Endeavor about stinking of booze wasn't incorrect. And Endeavor is no saint - Violette was supposedly a married woman (which didn't stop him from having an affair with her) and early on in the series - wasn't he dating a nice nurse who finally packed it in with him because he wasn't spending enough time with her? It makes me wonder if Joan all of a sudden threw herself at him, he'd go running in the other direction. I think that a large part of Joan's appeal to him is that she is "the one that got away". She doesn't want him so that makes her that more attractive. And Jim Strange seems to be an overall decent man; he doesn't have Morse's demons and in the real world, that would make him much easier to live with long term.
  17. I agree with everything you say (and My God, I have never been bored with watching this show until now) except for the hair. Stick straight (ironed or set on super large curlers) and parted in the middle was usually teen girls. A women of Joan's age (20s) was more likely to wear it like she did and believe it or not, Bouffants were still being worn at that time (I know because I had teachers who wore them). The reporter's hair wasn''t right for that time - for one, a woman of the reporter's age would have worn it more styled and again, possibly more bouffant. Her long layers wouldn't really be a thing for a few years later and then usually worn by younger women. I also had a quibble about the Hot Pants seen on the runway. 1971 was certainly a year for Hot Pants but they were almost always worn with boots (especially the lace up ones) and also usually with colored hose. The way they showed them on the runway evoked more 1930s chorus girl than 1971 hot fashion trend. As an aside - does anybody know why the actor who plays Jim Strange lost so much weight? He looks almost like a totally different person - it was hard getting my head around that it was still the same actor/character. I think he is going to wind up marrying Joan (in the future). Maybe another reason Morse likes to hit the bottle.
  18. Watched this week's episode and it was so tedious that it could have been "Oak Island". Lots of hot air (pun intended) wasted on throwing smoke bombs into a cave opening. Everybody wetting their pants over the smoke getting sucked into the cave. Maybe instead of the astro physicist they need a geologist on this team. Somebody who understands um, rocks and cave formations. As for the lights in the sky - the first thing I though was drones. Obviously, the locals know all about this tv show and maybe somebody is playing with them or actually had a reason for the drones (if that is what they are) to be up there. The flight pattern made me think of the constellation Cassiopeia (kind of a long W shape). I'm going to assume that next week we'll find out more after the "frame by frame" analysis is done.
  19. I had a slow day at work yesterday so I tried to do a deeper dive into this case; unfortunately didn't come up with all that much - just that the victim and his wife met in the early 1990s and that he divorced his wife in 1994 and was estranged from his son for many years (what happened there seems like needed background material). Also that the murderer had a successful catering business where she didn't cook but did the business end of it, until the last recession pretty much killed it. Also that the insurance and extras she had on hubby was more like $1.3 million and that she had wanted to sell the house and travel the world and apparently hubby hadn't been totally on board with those plans. Yeah, lots of background that I wish we knew about this case. A "happily married" spouse usually doesn't decide to bump off their husband or wife without some kind of good (in their minds anyway) reason. Also, Psychoklown, do you think the older women - cutesy behavior thing comes from some women trying to use their sex appeal to get what they want, and then when said sex appeal fades with age, going the cutesy route because they are used to trying to manipulate others and when one angle is gone, they try another?
  20. I wonder if almost nobody has posted on this thread because it was so hard to find. Anyway, I actually enjoy this show but will say that Lauraleefaerie and GustavMahler make some very good points. I don't understand all the shade against Dragon - frankly, from the pained look on his face every episode, he looks as if he'd rather be anywhere but there. And this is just typical Prometheus production fare - from the narrator on. I keep expecting cameos from Giorgio and his sidekick Dave Childress as well as the Lagina Brothers.
  21. "The Jacket" was a really heartbreaking story. AJ was such a beautiful girl with a future, only to have her life snuffed out by that scumbag lying "father". I just kept shaking my head in amazement at him still proclaiming that he didn't do it. Yeah, your GPS just happens to show you traveling to some out of the way derelict house and the poor girl's body was dumped there. Nope, but he didn't do it. What a sociopathic bastard. And it really makes one want to know the story of how AJ's mother met and wound up marrying this guy. If I recall the story correctly, AJ didn't even know who her real father was (one has to wonder about the story behind THAT), then her mother married the one guy, who is the father of the other two children. Then Mom and Step Dad had an acrimonious divorce and Mom wound up married to this guy who had a past criminal history. You'd think as a woman who has three young daughters, she would have been careful about who she brought home, but either she didn't do a deep dive into this guy or he did such a great job covering his tracks/being a bullshit artist that she had no clue who she had married. Was there any local news coverage of the crime where they did any kind of investigation of the family? And I'm guessing that the scumbag dosed AJ with heroin to subdue her enough to sexually assault her. Makes you wish they'd bring back The Chair.
  22. I thought that this was a very well done documentary. It was interesting to see how his comedy morphed from the early 60s to the 70s and how he had a resurgence in the 90s. I had been familiar with some of his comedy in the early 70s (I was a young teen who'd listen to nightime FM radio) but I had no idea that he was also on tv in the 80s. He had a brilliant kind of warped mind that excelled at word play and also was able to cut through so much of the bullshit of life. I was sad that both he and his wife had bad substance abuse problems (and sadder for his daughter, and trust me, I know what that was like) but on the other hand, they also had such a love story. It was tragic that at the point in his life when he felt that maybe he could slow down career-wise and spend more time together that she became fatally ill. His second wife appears to have been considerably younger, but thats usually how it goes. Listening to so much of his later comedy I kept thinking, oh boy, if he had still been alive in the last 5 or so years, how much material could he have had, but it seems that so much of what he said 20, 30 years ago is just as true today - if anything, more so.
  23. The texts received by Parker's ex-wife and ex-partner, and their replies were identical which leads us to believe that they are/were working with the same person (The Raven?). Now we will see if Parker's ex-wife is really a bad guy or if she is a good guy pretending to be a bad guy and who needs Parker's help in taking the real bad guy down. Gazing into my crystal ball, I think that Raven has a mole in the FBI and that Parker's ex is aware of it. She might be worried that there is also a mole in NCIS. So she has gone undercover as somebody in co-hoots with the Raven and pretends to kidnap Parker. I'd love to see her REALLY being a bad guy but something tells me that isn't going to be the truth. Why did they now have to drag all this personal Parker crap into this? I don't care if he has a crusty father who plays board games with him; I don't want to know his ex-wife (who he clearly still has feelings for), and God only knows what the backstory of "something even a happy marriage can't recover from", and I don't think that I want to know. We've got the romance with Knight/Palmer (nice to see Ducky again) - show leave it at that. Please. But it appears that the actress playing the ex Mrs. Parker is being added to the cast list, so she is going to be around for a while next season.
  24. Xeliou66 - you said it all for me! I'm another person who can't stand romantic pairings on these types of shows (I still gag when it comes to Rollins and Carisi on L&O SVU) but both Knight and Palmer are so likeable and they do have good chemistry, so I'm on board with that. Not looking forward to Parker and the ex-wife which will probably be one of these things with the "cute" bickering or they still have a flame for each other. Why ruin a good thing with Parker - keep him mysterious and his personal life out of the show.
  25. You'd think if it were the CIA they'd kidnap her in a safer way than t-boning her car and possibly killing Robyn as well as injuring/killing Aunt Vi and Dee.
