  1. IMHO, he was already seeing the error of his ways without her - the whole prison sentence and literally losing the respect of everyone he ever knew took care of that. Abigail was just willing to accept that he had changed a lot sooner than other people, and to support that without holding his past against him.
  2. So Henry has been keeping up a secret correspondence with Abigail and admits to having regrets about not acting on anything with her...seems like a very heavy-handed way of confirming the actress will return, and a direction for her story to take...
  3. Sure, it's good to be different, but it's problematic when the actor can't be understood and makes the viewer lose part of the story. I have the same problem with Matt Czuchry, who plays Conrad on The Resident. I would imagine all professional actors have taken voice/enunciation lessons.
  4. IIRC, he and his wife/then girlfriend had been in college when she unexpectedly became pregnant with Henry. So it seems that perhaps he dropped out at that time in order to go to work and support her and the baby.
  5. I'm not the only one, am I, who - when Connie asked Brenda if Herschel had left for another woman - yelled, "ABISHOLA!!" at the tv, right? It would have been kind of hilarious if they said he moved to Detroit to his family, but hey...
  6. My biggest peeve has always been the makeup and bright clothing. I understand that the actresses are 21st century women who want to look good on TV according to modern standards. But again, from the copious amounts of historical reading I've done over the years, women in that era did NOT wear makeup or bright clothing (Rosemary as an actress might have, but after settling with a husband in a small town, she likely would have been forced to tone it down if she wanted to be accepted). The general idea was that a good Christian woman did not "paint" herself or wear flashy colors, for fear of others thinking she was "fast" or "easy". On a semi-related note, they also did not enter saloons, for fear of people thinking they were not respectable. When Clara was first hired to work at the saloon and Jesse was upset, this was actually rather historically accurate. As saloons anywhere but Hallmark were full of drunken rowdiness - and girls who worked in them often supplemented their income by "entertaining" men in the rooms upstairs - Jesse could be forgiven for thinking that others might look poorly at Clara if she worked there.
  7. Don't forget, the husbands did manual labor, suggesting they came from a lower class...as indicated in the first season, many of the widows were unable to pay rent on their homes or even food on the table (I forget his name, but there was a boy in S1 who said they were lucky his mom knew how to make somewhat tasty dinners out of the fish he caught). Even Abigail, whose husband was the foreman - AND had additional income from a working son - was largely in the same position. The only reason she was able to open the cafe was because Henry agreed to back her in exchange for a ridiculous percentage (and also hinted at sexual favors, IIRC). So it's rather doubtful that the majority of the widows would have had either the capital or the skills to open businesses. .
  8. Yeah, I know...but apparently enough people misheard to warrant an article? Thus I thought to share.
  9. I read a lot of historical fiction and nonfiction - sadly, during that time period, it was quite typical for someone in Elizabeth's position to give her baby to an orphanage at birth (men who lost wives in childbirth, such as Philip's dad, also). Then she would try to find a new husband as soon as possible, at which time she'd bring her child home. Despite the wealth of Elizabeth's parents, I could totally see them trying to convince her to go the orphanage route - no doubt hoping that either she wouldn't find another husband in reasonable time or that she would simply allow him to be adopted by someone else, allowing for a "clean break" from her marriage to someone they absolutely didn't want her with.
  10. It's been around a good while now, but I find I've become rather affectionate toward the Geico commercial with the basketball player running around blocking everyone's tosses. He's all, "No no no! Not in my house!" and I all but giggle along with him.
  11. Re: anachronisms - Everyone in town frequently says ok, which was not really part of lexicon til the 40s. Also, I recall Abigail often mentioning spaghetti for Cody's dinners (Elizabeth made it too, I think). It's not too feasible that the townspeople would have had any familiarity whatsoever with Italian food; and even if they did for some reason, are we to believe Elizabeth/Abigail stood around making their own noodles and sauce? Because it's not exactly like today, where you can just pop into a store after work and buy the makings for a quick dinner...
  12. I remember seeing a coffin on a wagon, but that could have been symbolic. Even if there was a body, I would imagine anyone who had been in a rockslide/avalanche could have been unrecognizable.
  13. I would have to regift them...one of my biggest horrors is that if I had a huge set of kitchen knives, some intruder might break in and murder me with them. Because, apparently, no intruder comes in already bearing weapons... I haven't seen this, but am semi-interested, as I go through sporadic periods of hair loss due to lupus. I've found biotin shampoos to be quite effective, though, and not very expensive, so I guess I'd have to get some legit proof this product would be better.
  14. Same! I'm precisely 40 now, and there were two different outbreaks various years in elementary school, during which I never caught it. But yeah, I'm thinking I'd be in the same boat as you.
  15. I hope against everything that I'm wrong...but I have this bizarre strong feeling that Nathan's "secret" will somehow lead to Jack's return. Yeah, I know it sounds insane. But let's look at the info we've been fed so far. Elizabeth is supposedly going to choose a partner by the end of the season - but there are only a few episodes left and she isn't even allowing a chaste kiss or handhold. The idea that such a person will suddenly agree to marriage seems unbelievable to me. We know Daniel Lissing was last on The Rookie, and that his character is now gone. And based on a few articles, DL has stated he would be ok with returning to WCTH (which seems to me as an odd thing to say, given his character was killed off). Hey, if Henry can suddenly have a son he never spoke a word about to anyone in 8 seasons, Jack suddenly reappearing because he was previously on a top secret mission or something doesn't seem too impossible...
  16. WCTH Execs on Why We Don't See Lucas With Little Jack
  17. Literally 99% of the things you see on this show did not happen in the books - like even the Mountie isn't named Jack, but Wynn. He and Book Elizabeth marry within a few months of meeting (both families are totally fine with the match) and they remain together til old age. None of the characters on the show are in the books, except for Elizabeth's sister Julie.
  18. Do the Tampax people hate the American public? Because truly, I cannot fathom another reason they'd feature Amy Schumer, telling us she has a vagina she doesn't know much about...
  19. Most likely, other students simply stopped attending once they got older. Parental need back then would have trumped waiting for an official end of schooling. Don't forget, Clara and Peter were only married for about five minutes before he died. The fact that Abigail hadn't even known of the marriage until after tells us the two of them never even lived together. That part has always seemed a bit questionable to me. I know this is a Christian show on Hallmark, so certain things will never be shown or even implied. But Jack and Elizabeth were shown to be quite passionate, even sometimes with others near. A few times we saw them start making out, then conveniently have the scene fade out, them alone in Elizabeth's house, at Abigail's with her gone, that time they waited out the storm in the mine. I just find it hard to believe that over five years, there wouldn't have been some form of sexual activity, if not full intercourse (and that most likely only because of fearing untimely pregnancy).
  20. Maybe, if they grew up referring to it as that, as Haley (and I) would have... It's kind of like how Voight says "get on the horn" but the younger people don't.
  21. My newest peeve is the one where Parker the pizza delivery person just randomly shows up at Jake from State Farm's housing, enthusiastically dumping a mountain of free pizzas and sides into his arms. First? Totally creepy and inappropriate for a customer to look up an employee's home address and just show up randomly in their doorstep. And second? I keep wondering, did Parker just steal all that stuff from her employer? But if she did pay for it herself, then she literally just negated the amount of her insurance discount.
  22. No, not that one...but the title alone sounds like a spoof. 😁 Granted, I don't know much about directing, so I have no idea if MJH is considered a good one or not, how she connected with Young Sheldon, etc.
  23. Oh yeah, I know this - I just mentioned this on the Chicago PD boards, in reference to Kim getting Makayla (another situation that wouldn't happen, as she is a single person working long and erratic hours, in a dangerous job where she could be killed literally anytime). By "legitimate" or not, I just meant that they too have every right to apply for Augie, in the same way the other people did for big brother. I had interpreted your comment to mean that those people had more right to get Augie simply because they already had one of the siblings officially - my apologies if I understood you wrong.
  24. In recent years she's been doing a lot of those Christmas movies - a fact I know because she starred in a really terrible one with Mario Lopez a few years ago that was filmed in my city (I had to watch it simply because I recognized literally every place in the movie, not because I had any kind of hopes for the actual storyline.)
