  1. Not Jeopardy! related at all - unless the Category is Women Authors (or however it is that they phrose it). I watched American Masters on PBS tonight. It was about Laura Ingalls Wilder, Rose Wilder Lane, the "Little House" books, etc. I was aware that Rose had been an editor, and that the connection between Laura and her daughter about the books had been kept quiet for years. How we perceive things changes over the years - views on what were then called Indians, for example, are so very different now. And Pa Ingalls as described/portrayed in the books is a different person in real life. He has some of the same traits, but for example, he was not a successful farmer. Anyway, I thought the documentary was interesting and well done, and wondered what others may have thought. I couldn't find another place to discuss this, so I posted this here, among friends I hope! I'm currently reading a Dickens biography, and see some parallels too. Laura worked as a young teen in a bad situation, while Dickens had worked at a boot black factory at a young age, also bad situation.
  2. I lived in St. Joe in 1970-71, so that plus MO was easy-peasy. I did not know some cormorants were flightless. And I’m not good with Roman numerals either. Shadwell was Jefferson’s birthplace. One of Jefferson’s famous quotes is “I cannot live without books.” He sold books to raise money, and then turned right around and bought more books.
  3. The Hail and Farewell segment was exceptionally well done, I agree. We don’t get much snow here, for which I am glad, but the Moment of Nature segment was nice.
  4. https://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2020/12/26/marcus-allen-car-surprise-christmas/ The mother of Steeler's Marcus Allen was surprise gifted a car from him. Use the edge of a large spoon. Works every time for me.
  5. Happy surprise! The episode that was supposed to be on last night was shown tonight! The champ was from Chincoteague Island, one of my favorite places in Virginia. I remembered the FJ answer from when I looked it up yesterday.
  6. I haven’t seen Mobituaries by Mo Rocca mentioned yet. I’ve listened to a few, and they’ve been interesting.
  7. I enjoyed watching this. I thought it was a cynical, but realistic, take on modern politics. Loved his wife’s implicit threat at the end. I was sorry Charmian was killed halfway through; I liked the actor, Sarah Greene, in The Dublin Murders.
  8. Jeopardy! was pre-empted for stupid basketball tonight. Hiss boo! I looked at the J! archive site, and I did not get FJ. I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday, however it was observed. Nice quiet day here. After last night’s stormy weather, today was a calmer day. I got to Skype with daughter and family, so that was nice.
  9. I don't think that's a Christmas tree farm. Yes, there are evergreen trees, but I think that is just part of the landscape. I haven't spotted any signs, any other people coming and going, or anything like that. And why would she be mailing cards from someone else's mailbox?
  10. We missed part of the first J! round due to tornado warnings in the southern part of our viewing area. Enjoyed the episode, though. The “discovered” phrasing doesn’t bother me, though I am glad we’re all becoming more aware of how things are explained, and how it can be hurtful/insulting.
  11. This was originally aired in 2007. The first Kinsella Shopaholic book came out in 2000, The movie was released in 2009. I didn't get salud; I thought it was salut, and meant Salute, as in, I salute you.
  12. Frank struggles after Joe Hill's lineage as a Reagan is revealed; Erin and Anthony receive gift-wrapped evidence; Danny's opposition to authority clashes with Jamie's adherence to the rules, as both brothers work to solve a murder. The last scene with Christmas dinner was kind of sad. Nice to see Jack & Nicky there, briefly. Cases of the week were OK.
  13. FYI...Jeopardy! starts two weeks of Alex's Favorite Episodes on Monday, Dec. 21. Read more about it on the Official Jeopardy! site: https://www.jeopardy.com/jbuzz/news-events/2-weeks-alexs-favorite-episodes-around-world Alex's last week broadcast will begin January 4. That'll be must-see TV for me, and many others too, I am sure.
  14. Week 14: 5/5 one* YTD: 32/70 six* I don't think I've ever in my life paid for parking for a doctor visit!
  15. Yes, when Alex asked Brayden about James, I was so hoping Brayden would say, no, no influence at all.
  16. FJ wasn’t a TS. Devon got it right. I lived close enough to KC where Hallmark is headquartered to know a bit about their history, so it was easy for me. I said Chris Cross, knowing perfectly well it should be Christopher! Welcome back Teebax!
  17. The "mailbox" ad for Toyota kind of confused me - why are they driving to that rural mailbox and mailing cards from there? I didn't get that she was mailing home-made ornaments that then show up on the tree. Her (service member) dad then surprises her there. But the song was used for a British (?) missing person crime procedural, so that didn't work for me for the commercial. I read Toyota's description of the ad, so I better understand it, but then how good is it if it's confusing? The little girl is adorable, though!
  18. I still don’t know which is Will and which is James. Not a fan. But when the one was doing the King cake challenge, I knew that, however tempting, he should not have eaten any of the cake. It’s rich and filling, and loading up before having to eat beignets was a mistake. Too bad it wasn’t a fatal mistake. I wanted Hung & Chee to get ahead!
  19. I knew begorra and Cutty Sark. For FJ I guessed Henry VIII, but James 1/6 also crossed my mind. I too thought of Squiggy.
  20. I really like it! Doesn't matter to me if it doesn't make sense - it's the message that matters to me. Give of yourself - there's nothing more important!
  21. I received an e-mail from my local PBS station letting me know that Sandington is back! "Enjoy Sanditon on MASTERPIECE Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Charlotte Heywood all over again! " Umm, no, I think I'll pass. I did enjoy it the first time through, but once was more than enough.
  22. SNL did a spoof of the Lexus December to Remember ad & it’s freakin’ hilarious!
