  1. Heh. Today's first class meeting, and I have students do an ice breaker to get to know each other. Student A comes up, "Me and Bob...." and I stop, him, shocked, and say, "Mean Bob? He was mean to you!?" heh. Instant correction. :-) All in fun, and a good group, so no harm, no foul. Personal irritant - mixing "me" and "I." (Hence my correction above!) We try and teach against the "Me and Bob" but it gets over-generalized such that "me" is no longer an allowable word. "The stars were shining brightly on Bob and me." Today's grammar lesson brought to you by quotation marks! Show? Oh, yeah! Today's early rerun with the two money/drug guys. For being Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber, at least they were polite, well-spoken and respectful. New shows today! And I'm home alone, so I can indulge without anyone gettin' in my business. Bring on the wine!
  2. Absolutely agree. But when it starts affecting the father/son relationship, I think you'd want to stop and prioritize. Comments above about Zach working on a different boat may be right on. Maybe they have a good relationship, but from what we see, it just seems to be a way of stoking the fires.
  3. I think JJ was leery of the defendant, too, with 17 years of fundraising, but no idea what the money was for. I'd think if you spend 17 years working with a family you'd know (or want to know) a little bit about their "foundation" or "scholarship" or whatever. Presumably medical and burial expenses would be long gone, so I'd wonder what the funds were for. It probably wouldn't affect my participation, unless it was obviously just a money-grab. I did like how JJ awarded the money to the family, instead of the plaintiff. And if it was all legit, how sad to have it played out in JJ's courtroom. The whole thing was just a little too iffy. Nice to see a non-dog bite/fence line/landlord-tenant case! And this: Thank you! Having never seen the PB case (GRRRRR!!!), it was nice to hear a tidbit!
  4. I loved that that fact came out! Sure, call CPS. They know aaaaallll about us.... Today's evicted roommate case (the only one I saw) : "It's like she intentionally wanted me to move out!" The whole world: "Well, duh!" I usually don't mind defendants filing counter claims on this show - they are going to court, often sued by a lunatic, so why not give it a shot. May catch Judy on a good day . Speaking of which - The Giant FlySwatter made an appearance! Woo hoo!
  5. The thing that drives me bats is that Bill seems to continually set up "tests" for his son, with the expectation that he will fail. The deal last week where he set the trap to see who would race first to the wheelhouse, etc. "Oh, there's a mechanical failure - let's see who jumps in to fix it." Every week, it seems there is some new test designed to see just how badly Zach wants this. I hate when people do that! The communication between the two is in need of serious work, it would appear, and I agree that both their lives may be better if they separated work and "home" life.
  6. Great recap! I saw the descriptions, and figured they were repeats. Ha. (My dish guide has been messed up for a year - 4 different episodes a day, but the same descriptions for all of them. Sigh.) LOVE the acronym! ha! Great one.
  7. I just saw that one! And I kept looking for storage as well! I know at the beginning they mentioned something about a pantry or something, but it did look like they only gained a little more counter top space, but lost cabinetry. But being able to see the rest of the house would be a big plus, so I can appreciate that, but the pipes and planks just puzzled me. I was wondering if this was the ep references above about ripping out a load-bearing wall.
  8. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Sympathies and hope for peace and strength! Big hugs from your friends here in JJ land. What a lineup you have! Dang! It's like you got the "greatest hits" version. Does TimeLife offer that as a DVD collection?! Speaking of PB, has that episode ever been rerun? I liked the purple-haired section 8er that re-ran the other day. Def's comment about sawing off the branch she was sitting on cracks me up every time.
  9. Regarding the "VCR" episode that re-ran today: Agree with all comments above. I certainly felt there were cognitive difficulties with the young man and his father. My neighbor's twin grandsons were preemies, and are still in the NICU. She and her daughter are there every day, all day, and daddy comes every night after work. They all attend classes on the machinery, the tubing, the alarms, the care, the "how to" for home care. I can't imagine anyone from this show being able to care for a preemie like that at home. Even a pristine, clean one. I hope the stepmom is an active part of the baby's life. That little guy needs someone in his corner. Would also like to know what happened. Young mom hopefully took her baby and made a life for herself. Baby daddy will end up in prison, I'm afraid. I also agree that this show gets hard to watch since the participants obviously have issues that are contributing to the hoarding, and the show can be unbearable sad. But I do find it gets me upstairs to start clearing some of the junk out. That's usually when I turn it on - when I'm needing motivation.
  10. Ya' know, we started a drinking game for this show. Me thinks we all need to be hitting the bottle a little more frequently! (Grape Nehis all around for those tea-totalers out there!) I'm sorry I missed the "victim-less" crime show. Wow. But I think I have a pretty good idear...
  11. Jumping in with my own tin-foil hat theory: The show wasn't a real competition at all, but a vehicle to introduce Tregaye to the FN viewers (who hadn't already seen her) in preparation of "her show." While she drove me nuts on this show, and I can't imagine watching any show she's on, she does have "personality" and can cook good food on a pretty predictable basis. To me, those are the two things necessary for me to watch. There used to be a baking show (Gail Gand?) , and it was quiet, and calm, and had good food, but wasn't something I wanted to watch on a regular basis, and I wouldn't jump up and start baking. So I can appreciate how Tregaye may what they were looking for. But it was not competition, in my book. Having said that, "on fleek" in the title of a show?! Oh good heavens! Who on earth would see that in the show listings and say - "Wow! A great new must-see show for me!" Just can not imagine. And for as much as I would not watch her show based on what we saw here, THIS may just get me tuned in. I can only imagine what that combination would look like! (And wouldn't you want a cohost part of the decision process? Don't they need to have some chemistry to work well together?)
  12. I think, Brattinella, that she said they were "exceptionally superb" or some other variation. But that was then... I hope she is in school. I hope she does well. I hope every dime is well-spent. I hope she joins the work force. I hope she does not show up on JJ again. I hope. #shawshankfavoritequote.
  13. OMG. Rondelle Moore is going to send me over the edge (again.) For every "student" who complains about outrageous student loans - how much of what you "borrowed" was actually spent on tuition, books and living in a cheap dorm? Or how much was spent on cars, trips to Cancun for Spring break, the spiffy apartment at the lake and lovely body enhancements? Not to mention the money that is refunded when you drop out. Not so say that student loans shouldn't be used for life-maintenance, but I think running up $100,000 in loans is mind-boggling. Even worse is the "financial aid" that is not to be paid back and comes from tax dollars. Argh. Pardon me as I step off the soapbox. Sigh. Not sure why she got credit for only the $800 Lincoln she sold. If it was worth $1275, why doesn't she get "credit" for that?! She's the one who sold it for under market value. How much do tattoos cost, anyway? I need bunnies and rainbows.
  14. Please let us know when your episode airs. Surely there's a case for the show somewhere! Maybe some step-grand-inlaw-outlaw can watch the crumb-crunchers for you!
  15. I with there were spoilers for this show so I wouldn't feel the need to keep monitoring it to find out who "wins." Oh. Wait a minute. Never mind... Blech.
  16. Oh, my, mom!! Glad you are (mostly) okay, and tucked away safe in your new abode. Have another glass of wine, and it won't matter if you use heat or ice. ;-)
  17. I do! I do! And the wheels on the cart would stick on the carpet, threatening to topple the little black and white Zenith over. First color memory? Mr. Moose's antlers turning yellow on Captain Kangaroo. I'm really, really old. But I was really, really, young then... And baby sister's pull toy that would change the channels when she pulled it across the room and the little bell would tinkle.
  18. We had some memorable repeat offenders today! Ms. Radicchio leaf on her hair (but it was really way cool!), Snidely Whiplash, and someone I think was once referred to by a riff on "Pizza the Hut." Several I muted, but it was fun to see a couple of 'em back. Of course, we still haven't seen Ms. Bean. Dang. The lovely judge's b.s. meter was pinging on all cylinders, and she zipped through some of them PDQ. Good on ya', Judge! (Blows her a kiss, ala Mr. Factory-employed witness.) Good to see my posts aren't the only one that seem to self-format and repeat!
  19. HA! BeastlyBabyMomma! This was new to me, and I was crackin' up. Wrong show, folks! Jerry Springer is down the hall! And loved how JJ brought up that he conveniently "shares" custody with all those baby mommas - no child support! Gah. So what was the story with the orange sweater vest guy? I only caught the tail end where she told fish-face (snerk!) to get a job. It sounded like the plaintiff won - what were they suing for? And yeah, Chloe's puppydaddy did say he didn't have time. Sigh. Angela, sweetie, do you need some more wine? You sound a little tense...
  20. Oh, good heavens. The stupid dog custody case?! "I love the dog like a daughter." Yeah, that's why you left it when you hit the road with the TV! Co parenting the dog?! The defendant didn't say much, so don't know much about him, but he is way better off with the puppy than Miss Manipulator. As is the puppy. Sheesh. No computers or working TVs upstairs at the Toes household. There is an old TV they used for video games when the kids were older, but it wasn't "watchable." I too, had students whose parents said, "I just can't get him to turn the TV off." I had a junior high young man who slept about 6 hours a day at school, and when I questioned him, he admitted to staying up all night video gaming. Explained it to mom. "I just can't get him to turn it off" to that, too. Not much I could say to. Poor kid.
  21. Delurking to join the "chat!" My favorite part of the show is (usually) the host chat part. Kelly and Michael I thought did a good job. Their lives were different enough that they each had things to talk about. I think when she is with Mark, or people she knows very well (like Anderson), the chat is usually about them, because they have so much in common, thus a lot of "in jokes." The discussions of late are more strained because they can't pull things from the news, or the papers, like they usually do since so many of these shows are taped, and they just have to talk about generic stuff. Some of these could be a month old. I always thought Michael was a horrible interviewer - it looked like he could only read prepared questions, while Kelly seemed to be able to genuinely converse with the guests. Of course, some more successfully than others. But Michael just always seemed uneasy. Thought Keegan did a great job today! They had fun, he was funny on his own, and seemed to do well with the guests. I agree Kelly needs a strong counter-balance for the show to be successful. I'm willing to cut a little slack on her recent manic-ness since she has to carry the show with the revolving cohosts. Some are more lively and willing to take the lead than others, and in an effort to avoid "dead air", she may just keep things spinning. Exhausting to watch, sometimes. But a little bit of fluff for me in the mornings before I head out for the day.
  22. I saw her and some family members on Guys' Grocery show a month or two ago. She was the cook in a family version of the show. Cooked reasonable food, as I recall, and wasn't nearly as "Tregaye" as she is here. Same lavender lipstick, though. Blech. I understand needing to have an identifiable personality to separate oneself from the pack, but criminy. She may be around, win or lose.
  23. I think Wikipedia should just be renamed "Rabbit Hole." My personal nemesis. I'll go looking for info on a specific thing, and hours later, have no idea what I originally came looking for. Glad teebax has found some down time! And a constructive way to use it! Ha! Did tvtropes once, and do recall that it is easy to get lost in! Loving the drink recipe ideas. Not a mojito fan, but the watermelon may be a welcome change. If you are screwdriver fan, beware the raspberry vodka. A whole new level of yum. (Good thing Spec's is closed today!)
  24. And you are exactly right in most "real" instances. These people, and many of those who show up here, aren't paying anything. So the $300, $600, $1000 a month folks like this never pay ought to add up to a tidy nest egg. But again, that would mean they'd end up paying, rather than squatting. And may never had any intent to pay to begin with. These people were rent-to-own, as well. For $300 a month? Wow.
  25. So good to hear from our beloved teebax! You know we are here for you. Hugs all around, for all of your family! Top tips: Wine. (Berringer's White Merlot my current fave.) Chocolate. All of it. Cranium's "WhooNu" - best game ever, perfect for oldsters and youngsters alike. Easy, and fun, and a great way to find out lots of cool stuff about your loved ones! And did I mention the wine? Blessings to the whole 'bax family, and your new sweetie!
