  1. I don't know much Latin, but "novo" = "new" is one of the few things I do remember. Plus, I watch the English Premier League, so Newcastle was pretty fresh in my mind anyway. I'm deeply ashamed that I didn't get FJ - and I've seen Wayne's World! (Even quote the "we're resistant to change" bit occasionally.) I said Coneheads, knowing that wasn't really a hit movie. Must have some kind of Mike Myers block or something. To be fair, a lot of people wouldn't recognize Montgomery Clift if he was sitting across from them at lunch - I wouldn't, for instance, although I knew who it was from the rest of the clue. (Of course, he'd look a wee bit different now, not sure I'd want to see that at lunch.)
  2. I have, but only as snarky good fun, so I don't know how true it is. He does have a somewhat idiosyncratic speech pattern which could make one think that he's a bit slow. He seems like a nice bloke, though.
  3. It seems to me there was something to this effect in the paperwork I received, but it's been several years, so I might be mis-remembering.
  4. I never felt the least bit sorry for Cersei. She brought it all on herself. I hope she's totally crushed by the experience, since I don't find hating her to be fun.
  5. Well, since "Dineh" is the Navajo word for the Navajo people, it probably isn't that either. Although that would make just as much sense as anything else on this show. (A quick Google didn't come up with a 'Sisters of Dinah' or of Dineh, so I'm guessing it's made up.)
  6. I thought he was extremely pushy, possibly even controlling, and would've given him the shove. But maybe that's because I'm someone who doesn't enjoy having vacations planned out to the minute. The time I spent just wandering around Paris is a particularly find memory. But hey, chacon a son goute.
  7. Well, I fully expected Arsenal to lose to Chelsea, so I'm happy enough with a draw. Still want to poke Mou in his stupid eyes, though. And yes, Oscar was clearly concussed and should've been taken out of the match. But Mou don't care 'bout nothing like that. Concussion, consmushion.
  8. I didn't see last night's show (I get Jeopardy on a Baltimore station and they didn't air it for obvious reasons) but after checking J! Archive, I can see that I would've done good in the first round, slightly less good in DJ, and rocked FJ, which seemed exceedingly easy to me. Plus, I got 'quirt' - in fact, I tried to use that as the answer to the clue for 'crop'. IDK, our bozos aren't any better; in fact, they're often worse. I'm American, and yet I knew the FJ the moment I saw it. Some of us are Anglophiles.
  9. Let me clarify my position on this: they should never have used the Khan character. Any actor in the role would've been a pale imitation of the glorious charisma which Ricardo Montalban brought to the original.
  10. I wouldn't disagree with you, but as Crim pointed out, that's not exactly setting the bar very high. For me, it's pretty obvious that the big effects were more important than any of the performances, but at least there's not that sense of "gee whiz, look what we can do" which pervades the first two HP films.
  11. Perhaps since the parents weren't actively abusing him, the Child Protective services people couldn't do anything else? Personally I would consider not giving the child pain medications to be abuse, but it's possible that the law in Britain at the time did not.
  12. I get your point, and don't necessarily disagree with some of it, but the billionaire who wanted to take Jo to Paris was pushy and overbearing, and was clearly trying to move the relationship at a pace which Jo found uncomfortable. So I don't blame her for bailing on the trip and the relationship. Although I'd probably have waited until I'd at least gotten to Paris before telling him I had no interest in his "every single moment planned" itinerary for seeing the city.
  13. I haven't finished the book yet, but feel compelled to ask: is it Isabel against who you rooted? 'Cause at about 2/3 of the way through the book, I really want to slap the crap out of her, myself. {edited to note that, having finished the book last night, I mostly enjoyed reading it, and found myself sympathizing primarily with Tom and Lucy, although I did end up feeling a little sorry for Isabel at the end. As for Hannah, I can't say I rooted for her, exactly, or even hoped that things would necessarily work out for her, but I could certainly understand her better than Isabel.}
  14. Okay, so I totally didn't expect the Margaery/Tommen storyline to go there. No wonder they recast that role with an older actor. Still kind of icky, though. But what sort of treason will Cersei accuse Margaery of since the "she's not a virgin" card is off the table? Interested to see how that plays out. Damn, Jon Snow is taking charge at the Wall. You go, Jon! Oh man, Sansa, I think you'd be better off married to Joffrey. Did not expect THAT to happen. Do like having Roose Bolton back on my tv, though; I love that actor's voice. Cersei is treading in very dangerous waters - can't wait to see this come back to bite her in her very naked ass. Arya has a storyline that doesn't involve wandering aimlessly! Yay! As long as Tyrion's storyline doesn't involve a never-ending boat trip followed by an overly involved war between Yunkai and Meeren, I maybe can get behind this newest development. Hey, it gets Iain Glen back on my tv, so that's good. Best of all: no Dany this week.
  15. Any Hell's Kitchen is too much Hell's Kitchen.
  16. Oh, I still think Blair's a dismissive jerk. But Hayley is also a screeching harpy. The two aren't mutually exclusive.
  17. It would've been smart if he'd actually followed the directions correctly.
  18. I totally would've done the shuffleboard task. No hot tub appearances for me unless I have no option. And the viewers would be very grateful for that, trust me. It's a shame that Hayley is so annoying that Blair tunes her out, because more often than not she's right. I was actually hoping Jenny and Jelani would be last, but I find her far more annoying. Oh well. I'm glad it was a non-elim since I like Matt and Ashley.
  19. I'm sure they'll find some way to screw him out of it. Maybe give the empty position to Amelia? One of the interns? A janitor?
  20. Well, Wire in the Blood was good. That's something, I guess. But yeah.
  21. Let me preface this by saying that I love many things Star Trek, and have seen the films up to the last Next Gen one. The new Star Trek movies suck. I'm particularly offended by the notion of Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan. BC is a good actor, but Ricardo Montalban was, is, and will always be the only Khan.
  22. I'd have to disagree with you about this. It's always been my relatively unpopular opinion that, with a few exceptions like Ian McKellan and Billy Boyd (but only near the end of the last film for him), the effects almost completely overwhelmed the performances to the point where it seemed like the effects were all Peter Jackson ended up caring about. I could never get on the band wagon for any of the Twilight films. I tried reading the first book when it came out because I worked in a bookstore and tried to know what people were reading, but it was so terrible that it killed any interest in anything Twilight ever for me.
  23. I remember when Bruce Jenner was a hot guy winning an Olympic medal and I kind of mourn for that person a little. Or maybe it's the mooning teenager that I was at the time for which I mourn. Either way, if he really is transgender, and transitioning will make him happy, more power to him. Or her, I guess, if it's true. But yeah, not gonna watch it. I gave up on Bruce when he entangled himself with the Kartrashians.
  24. I will if I can figure out where to send it. There's nothing on the Jeopardy website itself. She did that deliberately, as she told Alex. Personally, I think she was snarking on his love of Michael's Bahston accent.
