Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events
Jenniferbug replied to maraleia's topic in Counting On
Didn't she also have Cousin Emily living with them or at least around regularly to help? -
It could be very interesting to see what happens with some of the LLCs and properties in the next few months.

Oh my gosh, you're right! There's so many! Maybe Michael and Grace being married and raising Glory together would have been the rare storyline 😂 -

I started watching around the time Shona appeared so forgot about David being a single father at the time. And I had similarly spaced off both Kevin and Dev 🤦♀️ The others were all prior to when I started watching, but you're right that I did know Peter was a single father as well. -

I think Michael as a single father could be interesting since we don't see that much on soaps, but it seems to be taking kind of a stupid route to get there. And it's unlikely they'll do much with it anyway. Oh wait. I just remembered Daniel, so it's not even that unusual. I wish they would have let Curtis and Emma be a happy couple for a bit longer. Sometimes I feel like couples careen from one plot disaster to another. They went from meet cute to heart problems to a quick marriage to the reveal he's a liar/mentally ill in what feels like a very short time. The show did a similar lightning speed relationship with Ty and Alina. Let people be settled for a bit so we feel it more when they split up!! -
I just finished part 2, and I'm really enthralled by this. The mood really seemed to change when they moved to Apple. I wonder if it helped that they were further along in song writing by then too. John seemed very checked out when they were writing initially but seemed to come alive more when it came time to start recording. I've known a few people who are terrible at the planning, but great when it's time to execute. It feels like Ringo has hardly said 5 words the whole time. He seems like a very "go along to get along" personality who probably got very good at keeping his thoughts to himself. Was he taping up pictures from his kids by his drums? They looked like drawings but I couldn't tell what they were. I don't have strong feelings about Yoko really. It seems weird to me that she sat by John's side constantly, but I assume he asked her to. Mostly I wondered how bored she was. She seemed to sit and read the paper or maybe take some notes, but wasn't really doing much of anything. In retrospect it's like, well she was listening to the Beatles make an amazing album. But right there in the moment? I think I'd have been bored out of my mind day after day.

Who is the girl with the braid in the background of the picture where Jana is cutting butter?
-
Exactly! Personally I won't be mad if they're not in it (I haven't even seen the Garfield Spider-Man movies) but it seems like a lot of set up for them to not even cameo. But the backlash if they're not in it from a large portion of the fans will be ugly for sure.

No matter how many times I tell myself that there's no guarantee the other Spider-men will be in this, I realize that I really do expect it to happen. Marvel hired Sam Raimi, brought in characters from those movies, and set up the existence of the multi-verse...I won't believe Toby and Andrew aren't in it until I'm leaving the movie theater asking how it was possible that they weren't in it 😆 It just feels like a given to me, even though I logically know it's not. I wouldn't expect them to be revealed in a trailer if they are in it. Maybe I've been watching too much New Rockstars, but I didn't feel like there was much revealed that wasn't already known. Maybe the 24 hour trailer hype built my expectations too high. It was still a great trailer and I'm excited to see the movie when it's out!

I'm honestly giddy over this!

It does start to branch out a bit more, though Three Pines is always a feature. However, I wouldn't necessarily call the branching out an improvement.

I'm reading The Devil and the Dark Water by Stuart Turton (author of The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle) and I'm really enjoying it so far. It's pretty appropriate for Halloween since there may or may not be a demon involved.
-
Oh I absolutely agree! I was just pointing out some of the character templates they might be using from the original show. Shanice did more in 1 episode than Lily did on 2 seasons so I think they'll head in different directions for most characters.
-
Not for many years. I watched the first couple of seasons multiple times so remember them pretty well. The seasons once adult Isabelle appeared are where I lost interest and couldn't really tell you what happens beyond very vague outlines. Thank you for the reference! I thought a couple of Claudette's comments about her marriage implied her husband was physically abusive. The doctor said something about her being in pain or injured, and she gave a response that implied she was used to it. Then she made a comment about being married to someone who appears one way in public but isn't who others think.

Going strictly by character similarities, so far we've got: Shaniece=Lily, with the daughter who has grown up in her absence and the husband who has moved on. I liked the husband here enough that I'm kind of hoping he reunites with Shaniece. Mildred=Maya, with being one of the youngest and also the first to abilities. I think Richard was the one who had telekinesis on the original show. Mute kid= also Maya? Again, young and somewhat mysterious, maybe has visions like Maya. I could also see him kind of taking the Sean type role in the future, as a side kick to whoever the "bad" person ends up being. Reverend= Jordan Collier? He's kind of giving me charlatan vibes and also seems to be charismatic like Jordan, but he doesn't seem as egotistical so far so maybe I'm wrong. 60s lady isn't currently reminding me of anyone, except for her healing ability like Sean. The doctor also isn't really reminding me of anyone in particular. Maybe Richard a bit, since they were both kind and helpful and were sort of the "talk to" characters for exposition. I didn't catch what time period he was from either. The 40s? Since he mentioned air raids? I thought both Keisha and Jharell were pretty directly Diana and Tom counterparts, with Diana starting off very hardline against the returnees and Tom being softer (though not quite as soft as Jarell). I wonder if his brother won't turn out to be a Kyle situation. Maybe he's been in a coma unidentified all these years? Not sure, but I don't think we're done with him since the kid mentioned him and Jharell said he thought he saw a green light before his brother went missing.

I liked it ok. I don't think I'm as immediately pulled in as I was with the original show, but I'm thinking the original show pilot was 2 hours, so we got more time to get to know more of the characters. I like Shaniece (the lawyer), and thought LaDonna (? The party girl?) could be fun. The Reverend (whose name I didn't catch) seems kinda fake to me...like maybe he's not really a reverend. I don't know, he gives me Jordan Collier type vibes already. Interesting that Mildred and lady from the 60s whose name I didn't catch are already displaying abilities. Was the kid who spoke at the end mute? Or did they just assume he was? I wonder if Manny is in some sort of original show Kyle type situation, where he tried to stop an abduction, since the social worker (Jharell?) said something about seeing a green light before his brother was missing. It was hard for me to watch and not compare to the original show, but I'm hoping that goes away as the show progresses and characters (hopefully) develop more.

I read the first book many years ago and this is pretty much what my impression of it was too- all these people were dropping dead around Paul and my reaction was mostly "which one were you again? Oh well, moving on..." I didn't read any of the books beyond Dune so maybe people who were fans of the whole series have a different impression, but I didn't feel like most of the Dune characters were very fleshed out aside from Paul and maybe Jessica. I thought Dune the book was ok, but after reading summaries of the future books in the series, I decided not to continue reading. Hoping to watch this later on HBO Max, as it looks visually stunning!

Yes! I'm already annoyed that I can't watch till late on Wednesday, and will have to avoid the internet because I want to know what happens but I want to find out for myself! I honestly cannot decide who I think will die. Johnny seems like a goner for sure. But beyond that...I can't decide. -

Babies are definitely better off screen. Someone needs to have babies soon though- the Quads are going to need to date someone in their teen years! (Kidding). Today's episode was intense! I am anxiously awaiting Wednesday, and I'm really hoping sweet Aadi is ok! -

I saw speculation on Reddit before the reveal that Imran had slept with Kelly's mom, and I thought that would have some good story potential. I would have preferred that to Abi, honestly. I'm also hoping there's no baby as a result. If anyone on this show should have a baby, they should circle back to Adam and Sarah having one. Or give one to David and Shona. Not as dramatic, I know, but I'd prefer a stable couple have a baby for once. Was Bertie the last baby born who wasn't unplanned? -
I loved the first 2 seasons, warts and all. This season I didn't make it past 5 (?) episodes. I didn't rage quit or anything. I just sort of lost any desire to watch. I follow along here and will probably binge watch at some point, but it's disappointing after how invested I felt in the earlier seasons.

I guess that's not how I interpreted the other books. Any hint of the supernatural in In The Woods (which I'm not recalling anything specific beyond the general mysterious nature of the disappearance) seemed like a result of Rob's trauma and his youth when it happened. Broken Harbor I again chalked up to a breakdown in mental health rather than an actual supernatural experience. So from my reading of those previous novels, Secret Place suddenly introducing the supernatural was jarring. I don't recall hints of the supernatural in the books after Secret Place, but haven't read any of these in a long time.
-
I liked Secret Place alright, but never really knew what to make of them having magical abilities or whatever it was. It's been a long time since I read it, but stuff like them turning off lights with their minds. Were they just on drugs or highly imaginative? It was a jarring inclusion when all the books before and after were so rooted in realism. I remember reading it really fast in one sitting though so maybe I misinterpreted.

Yes, I really don't like Imran considering helping out with Harvey's defense. He should be considering that Toyah won't be happy about that either, if he's trying to get the guy who threatened Leanne and Simon released. Either way, his relationship is damaged, but only one way does he retain some integrity by keeping a criminal behind bars. I'm both excited and dreading this super soap week! The Watch Your Back promos are rather ominous. ETA: I'm having a really hard time reconciling this Peter Barlow who visits in 1977 with Chris Gascoyne 😂
