  1. I thought this was a really good episode, and I was almost convinced many times that Frank would end up leaving. I'm glad he didn't- the law side is really clicking, including Yee and Dixon. I hope we get a few more seasons of them. I also thought it was odd that no one seemed to be mentioning that he was attempting to murder Madison and Cosgrove and had evaded his ankle monitor to do so. I guess we assume it came up in the offscreen law portions since they didn't have as much focus this episode. I liked that Nolan and Frank, who seemed to get off to a rough start last season, have become more friendly and cooperative. It's nice to see that respect between them even when they butt heads sometimes. I don't know the exact answer, but there is an episode when Stone gets someone to testify by granting them immunity in his county, only for them to be promptly arrested after testifying on charges from the county where their criminal activity took place. Stone said he only granted immunity for his jurisdiction and advised the guy to get a better lawyer 😆
  2. A subtle thing I noticed when watching this again was that as soon as it's revealed that Taylor is a girl, everyone immediately switches to using feminine pronouns and referring to Taylor as a girl/daughter. It's a small thing, but it says a lot.
  3. I had a hard time buying into the premise of the episode. As a former teacher married to a teacher, I cannot fathom any school (no matter how progressive) encouraging kids to share deep dark secrets with each other as some sort of weird bonding activity. Not to mention that teachers are mandatory reporters so any student who discloses abuse or sexual assault would have had their disclosures shared with police immediately. Aside from that, I thought the show did a good job of handling the case and balanced the personal and professional aspects of the plot well. I feel like the writers have Price and Maroun taking turns about who wants to be most sympathetic to the defendant. It's starting to veer into Serena territory on occasion. I was glad Jack put his foot down at the end with Nolan, but it also seems out of character for an office under Jack's authority to be overcharging black defendants in the first place. I like all 3 characters for the most part, but it doesn't always feel like the writers have a firm grasp on who they are and how they differ. Does Cosgrove have other kids? In earlier episodes (even this season) he mentions kids plural, but we only ever hear about Lily and there was no sign of another child in their home.
  4. This was a good one. I really like that they're collaborating more across teams. That was sorely missed last season. Shaw is a terrific character, and I'm glad he refused to be bullied even if it cost him. I think Dixon did the best she could, but I did wonder how the conversation would have gone with Van Buren in charge. (Would have been a great opportunity for a cameo too- a conversation with either Shaw or Dixon would have fit). Interesting that Frank was the first to pull out his phone and take pictures of their badges when he was complaining last season about how cops get recorded. I like that they've developed him more- he still doesn't understand and is occasionally ignorant but he's also had his eyes opened a bit to what his partners have experienced and I appreciated him saying he would back up Shaw's decision. I still love Jack and look forward to seeing him each episode. I think the revival has hit its groove this season and I'm so glad it's back.
  5. We saw this earlier today and I really liked it. It's not going to rank super high on my list of favorite Marvel movies, but after the mess and disappointment of Phase 4, this felt like Marvel getting back to actually having a cinematic universe again. Maybe I'm biased because I always liked the interconnectivity and that each movie/show felt like a chapter in a larger story. Phase 4 lost that feeling of cohesion for me so to have this kick off Phase 5 and introduce Kang was a relief. Maybe I just like the formula more than most, I don't know. My biggest complaint is that I would have liked a bigger scene with Jimmy Woo, and would have liked to see the supporting characters from previous films make an appearance- even if just a cameo from Judy Greer and Bobby Cannavale at Cassie's fake birthday at the end. Also Luis. We needed a scene with Luis. I could have done without Bill Murray's character. I wonder if they cut his material. His only purpose was to show up, needle Hank and Janet, and then lose his ship to them. The cast was pretty good overall. I don't have strong feelings about new Cassie either way. I've never been a fan of Evangeline Lilly so she's always just been kind of there in there movies. It was super fun to get to see Janet kick some ass - and she and Jonathan Majors were great together. Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd are always enjoyable. I was honestly a little worried they might kill Scott off at the end to keep Kang trapped, and I'm glad they didn't. I'm a little surprised this one is so poorly received. While it didn't blow me away, I thought it was a massive step up from most of the last phase (with exceptions for No Way Home and Shang-Chi, and WandaVision, if counting the TV series).
  6. I really liked New Blood and am bummed it didn't last longer!
  7. I'm not entirely caught up on episodes but Facebook spoiled this for me and
  8. I've been wondering about Max's peer group going forward too. Is Lauren supposed to be sticking around as a character? Or Daryan? They have Max too young to be in the Amy age group, but too old to be in with Jack, etc. The groups seem to breakdown as: Amy, Simon, Asha, Aadi, Summer, Aaron, Nina, Jacob Max Jack, Liam, Hope, Ruby, Sam, Lily, Eliza, Jake (maybe?) Then the Quads (whose names aside from Aled and Clio I don't know), Bertie, Glory, Harry, whatever Gary's other son is named (Zach maybe?), Tyrone's eventual kid with Alina So it leaves Max a bit adrift unless they introduce some friends for him in the next few years.
  9. I'm liking Caleb too, and I'm really confused why Cain was all "don't come near my family ever". Like...did I miss where he told Moira what that's all about? Because it seems like there's no solid reason why Cain shouldn't want him around. I don't remember them mentioning that he's into any dangerous business or anything. I kind of hope he stays around and doesn't end up being a villain. I like Naomi lately too- her relationship with Marlon is sweet and I liked her chat with April today too. I'm not very interested in the whole Leyla/Liam/Bernice/David quadrangle or whatever is happening there. Is the nanny guy supposed to be taking care of Gabby's son too? Weird he's only ever seen caring for Dawn's kids, but Gabby was part of the interviews to hire a nanny.
  10. I like Spider, which now has me worried he probably won't make it out of this Griff/Max storyline alive. He and Toyah are better suited than she was with Imran and it'd be nice to have a more competent police presence around, maybe he could even mentor Craig. And anytime they need to give him vacation, just say he's off on a new undercover mission. I'm getting tired of the storyline and am not interested in Max at all. Spoilers for those watching a couple weeks behind:
  11. Exactly! It's more down to earth. Also fewer characters returning from the dead or having an evil twin, etc. I'm not loving the Corrie storylines at the moment either, but I prefer it to something like General Hospital for sure.
  12. Welcome Desperado! I started out watching on Hulu but eventually got a BritBox subscription so I could get episodes the same day. I'm impatient! It also introduced to me to Emmerdale and Eastenders as well...I watch more British soaps than American!
  13. I haven't been watching Emmerdale for very long, but that was really terrific fall out from the affair. So well handled and acted!
  14. Yeah, I was surprised when I saw that news too. I think she's an OK actress. But nothing that made me think she'd get cast on something as high profile as Doctor Who.
  15. Well shoot! That was the best I had come up with! I hadn't seen it till recently and thought it was pretty funny.
  16. I think A Christmas Movie Christmas has almost all. It might be missing 2 or 3, but I can't remember for sure. If you preview it, let me know how many it ends up having!
  17. Re: Nichol and the books I'm still really invested in the show and thought these episodes were better than the first two. I don't remember this book well at all so can't really say what was/wasn't changed. I like seeing more of the bond between Lacoste and Beauvoir here. It's nice to see their relationship outside of Gamache. The villagers seemed more like themselves here, probably because they seemed less hostile in these episodes. Watching these is really making me want to reread the books.
  18. I liked this one too. I also thought the actress was a little spazzy but assumed it was a character choice too. I liked that they had a fairly normal backstory and thought the actors had chemistry. I'd watch it again. I also liked My Big Fat Family Christmas. It was nice to see another Asian lead movie, and I thought the male lead was pretty charming. He did a guest spot on Nancy Drew last season and didn't have the accent so I was surprised to hear it here. This might not make my must watch every year list, but I liked it and I'd watch it again. Maybe my bar is low this year. I'm ok with that.
  19. I really liked this and am excited to see more. Hopefully it will get more than 1 season. Molina is pretty close to how I pictured Gamache in my head so his accent (or lack of) doesn't bother me. I also think he has the gravitas and warmth to pull off playing Gamache perfectly. Jean-Guy is not how I imagined at all, but I do think the actor cast captured his character well in spite of that. I'm interested in seeing how they handle his arc long term since he seemed to take a backseat to Lacoste in these first episodes. Not that that's a complaint because I always wished Lacoste would get more focus in the books than she does, and I'm glad to see her get it in the show. The villagers could use some fleshing out but there's a lot of characters and it's only the first couple episodes so I'm sure that will come. Peter was probably the most unrecognizable so that's interesting. Clara was far too young which is a bit disappointing. I'm grateful they put an end to all the mess from the books. I can see smeared paint and whatnot as an artist but the mentions of crusted food in her hair every book were gross. I agree the corruption story is working better here than in the books so far. I think it's more blatant here from the start which helps, as I feel like the series started as small town mysteries and then suddenly it was a story about police corruption. It's been about 4 or 5 years since I read the first books I'm the series though, so I may be misremembering. Overall I think I'm really going to like this series.
  20. I feel like whoever created that list leaned towards the more serious Christmas movies. I do appreciate that they included a lot of older movies- Trading Christmas is a favorite of mine! I probably would have listed Snow Bride and Road to Christmas higher up, and definitely would have included Crown for Christmas. Mingle All the Way is another that I really like, but it rarely gets mentioned or makes any lists. Magical Christmas Ornaments is another I like that isn't often mentioned. Now that I think of it, didn't Jessica Lowndes defect to GAF as well? Maybe that list pointedly left off anyone who went exclusively to that channel.
  21. Thank you @AnimeMania! Much better kick off to the thread 😆
  22. From Wikipedia: "Three Pines is an upcoming British-Canadian mystery streaming television series starring Alfred Molina, based on the Chief Inspector Gamache novel series by Louise Penny centred on Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. The series is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video." I didn't know this was going to be a show till I stumbled across an ad for it on Facebook today. As someone who enjoyed the books (especially the early ones), I'm excited to watch this! I believe what I saw said a premiere date of December 2nd, but Wikipedia doesn't have that listed.
  23. I've only just started watching Emmerdale, and I'm so annoyed by Chas. Given the amount of screen time she has, it seems she's one of the major characters but she's so insufferable that I can't imagine her ever being a fan favorite!
  24. Caught up to Friday's episode at least. One thing I will always enjoy about this show is how (unlike American soaps) there's a better sense of community and relationships. Chesney and Todd talking about Bernie, Dev talking to Paul and Gemma about Bernie...that's the sort of thing that makes the world feel real. I like Bernie and Dev as an unlikely couple and thought the moment in the pub where he said he believes her was sweet. The quads are cute! I don't think we've seen all 4 of them in a very long time. Not that I fault the show- getting 4 toddlers to cooperate at the same time is not easy, but it was nice to see them. I'm not sure why they would give Summer a pregnancy over someone like Shona (since she's pregnant in real life). Not that all real life pregnancies should be written in but it would make more sense for her and David to have a baby than for Summer to have one since she already has several plots going. And saying Shona is home with the baby, napping, etc would be much preferable for covering her maternity leave than whatever nonsensical story they'll come up with. My prediction is that Summer will have the baby and keep it, but we'll get all kinds of drama in the meantime about her diabetes and whether the baby will be ok, etc. Yay...
  25. I liked it! I read the book and do remember the end, but not quite how they get there. I thought the book within a book was pretty clever when I read it, and it's working well on screen too.
