I agree that this show would work best on another network. Bravo and E! wouldn't touch it b/c they make their livelihood off of fake-reality programing. I think FX or USA would have been the best bets for this show, to be fair NBC would have worked b/c let's face it they have nothing to lose at this point and it would really stick it to ABC and CBS which have way more successful faux-reality programming.

Snark Talk: Home, Home on the (De) Ranged
CMH1981 replied to film noire's topic in The Pioneer Woman
My pantry is the same, a hodgepodge of anything and everything. It's so bad that I always end up buying items that I already have...condiments and the sort mostly. To be honest Ree's pantry looked very bare. Of course we have to remember that this is the tv-show pantry, the house pantry probably looks much more disorganized and more fully stocked. -
Food Network and Cooking Channel: One is about food
CMH1981 replied to HyeChaps's topic in Network Talk
I was thinking after watching another abysmal episode of the Pioneer Woman where she made "7 Can Soup"...you have to check out the recipe. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ree-drummond/7-can-soup.html I would love to see a summer series where every Food Network personality w/a current airing show competes agains each other and the loser has their show cancelled. It could be a four or five hour live event where each personality get's their share of screen time and we watch them cook, but the last hour there is a blind panel who decides who the loser is. Ratings gold I tell you....ratings gold. -
Snark Talk: Home, Home on the (De) Ranged

So based off the "pantry staples" episode and from past shows she did say it isn't a quick jaunt to the local supermarket. Does anyone know what the closest town she would go to would be for the supermarket. I'm guessing Pawhuska. Is that where the kids all go to play their sports activities and her friend Hyacinth lives? How far is that from the ranch? -
How was that nan bread a pantry staple? Wouldn't that go bad fairly quick like regular bread? I'm not a fan of coconut, but when she added the canned coconut milk to the curry to make it creamy, it plopped into the skilled and looked like maybe it had gone bad. Is that how canned coconut milk looks like? It looked chunky. For being speechless over those damn chocolate peanut butter bars she sure wouldn't shut up. Did she really say you could add crushed up saltine crackers over that chocolate? That was just stupid showing off her boots on the ladder and her hiding a bar in the pantry in her cookware....ugh. Why can't I quit this show. That soup was just nasty and then she added canned chili then the cheese I really think this is how she really cooks when not on camera, just dump from a can and serve...plus meat from the ranch. I would love to see Ree compete on a FN competition show, not one where it was predetermined she would win in order to promote her show.

Part of the issue might be that the show is on Lifetime. I still believe there is a stigma where all anyone thinks about Lifetime, other than it's a "woman's" channel, is Golden Girls reruns and movie reruns of "Mother Don't Hit Me b/c My Boyfriend/Husband/Lover Already Did". I rarely watch the channel unless it's for some tv movie of the week that looks cringeworthy/behind the scenes/hot shirtless guys and this show. I do admit Lifetime has stepped it up w/ some of their original movies. With all the great reviews the show is getting, you have to remember that these journalists were sent copies of the episodes/season to review, so it's a good possibility they don't watch the network either.

I just found it realistic, based on the fact that Rachel and Adam, the insanely rich hotel heir, basically lied to him and said that it was a given that his sister would win. In his mind he is probably thinking all about the money his sister would gain and thereby share with him as his sister wouldn't leave him behind once she were to get married to Adam. He didn't put it together that they were both lying to him so his sister would come back w/ them so Rachel's ass would be saved.
-
So did the producers really tell Adam to choose Anna last, or is he just playing the game and being a dick by stringing her along like that? I agree the whole roommate thing was farfetched, and the fact that Rachel didn't password protect her laptop...seriously?! What did she just just tape the password to the bottom of the laptop? Loved that Anna's brother knows how to play the game as well...wanting an Xbox in exchange for him convincing his sister to continue on the show.

We don't know that for sure that he wasn't done. Liza didn't give him time to cool off...she considered sending several texts, and what could be construed by Josh she sent her friends to go confront him and tell him she was still in love w/ him. (Yes, I know Liza didn't send Kelsey to tell him that, but to a guy that is how that would be seen, even though Kelsey said Liza had no clue what they were doing.) To top it off she then goes to his apt seeking him out to talk and then gives the roommate the flash drive full of photos and cheesy music montage. Yes, he came up to her on the street, but I think it was more to make peace w/ Liza, but again she said they would need to start over and she took the first step in doing the whole "reintroducing oneself" schtick. It's just my opinion of course on how I perceived it all.
-
I guess I wasn't paying that close attention to see if she actually pressed send. That being said, she should have just let him go regardless, he made it clear he was done when he walked away from her. I hated the video as well, if it was just some random photos on the flash drive that would be fine...but she had to include that music and the opening credits basically. It might as well been a mix tape w/ the title being "I miss you Josh."
-
Damn promo monkeys led us to believe that she would tell Kelsey and the "great friend" and "long time" conversations were from that...but of course they were not. I too think that she should have just let Josh go, but then we saw how she kept texting him and that was bothering me, b/c i hate when people do that after a break-up...it's just so immature in my opinion. It really showed who was more the adult in the relationship at that point. Like the poster upthread mentioned, they have lots of new hurdles since they are starting over. He will have to meet her daughter, and goodness knows let's hope he doesn't fall for her b/c she is an actual younger version of Liza, plus the he might want kids at some point and she won't. Loved Martha Plimpton, hope she is more of a regular next season. I too thought Liza should have just falsified the figures, but then again double blackmail works...although to be fair I don't see what Martha Plimpton's character did would actually get her in trouble. I mean wouldn't other publishing houses want to find out what the others are figuring for the book deal. Nothing wrong w/ that in my opinion. I did yell out when Liza was doing all the correspondence via email about the sales figures, no paper/electronic trails!!!! Then again, she did use it to her advantage for the double blackmail. Did anyone else think that Martha Plimpton's character was going to be impressed by Liza and her predicament and ask her to write a book of her experiences for her publishing firm. Of course that would make Diana furious. I really thought Sutton Foster looked her real age this episode, and no way she would be able to pass for 26. I guess it was the breakup and all that.
-
Is this show really as popular as the promos lead one to believe? I mean i've been watching this show, solely as a Sutton Foster fan, but if I miss an episode it's not the end of the world. The promo monkeys make you think this show is the most popular thing ever since Sex and the City on HBO. I'm sure the ratings are okay for TVLand, but on another network... To be fair I find the premise very shaky and i'm really intrigued to see how the season finale wraps some things up b/c no way in hell can they stretch this out much longer. The Younger/Dairy Queen season finale promo...you just know they paid those people to show interest by offering them a DQ Blizzard. I love the one lady who says they can keep "axing" her questions but she is going to continue to eat.

Wow...Matthew. Just wow. I think if they pumped some Ritalin in him he might be able to focus and get out what he has to say, that being said he really is a douche. I wonder if they are saving Alton Brown to do the final take down of him, which I can't wait to see happen.
-
Again, Kevin Dunn was the MVP for this episode. I loved his "If I had a kid...which I do." That sums up his life in general, everything seems to be an afterthought to whatever is going on at this second. I can't say enough how much I want him to win an Emmy for this season. I was okay w/ Bill Ericsson being the scapegoat b/c I could never really figure out why he was brought into this administration to begin with. I remember Selina wanting him on her side when she was running for President, but then he turned her down. That's it. Wow, I wasn't expecting staffer Lee Patterson to show back up, but damn. She blew it all wide open. I love Sue and how confidant and cool she comes across but is never able to reign her distaste until she makes a blunder like the voice memos comment. I have to say, Catherine being bitchy was awesome, as was the smackdown by woman saying she would be just as rude/hostile if needed. So it looks like Selina quashed Catherine's engagement for the time being....would love to have seen that conversation. Line of the night was Ericsson's "I took noticing in high school."
-
I did, but only b/c I love hearing Robert and Sally talk about the films and why they chose them. Unfortunately I ended up deleting the movie after it ended and forgot about the follow up conversation b/t the two. I really wish they would post their full conversations online for each movie from each season. I guess I didn't pay too much attention to the movie, but just enough where I didn't find it that racist b/c they were portraying a certain period of time. I don't think you could pull off certain periods of time and be politically correct at the same time. I don't want to start a war or anything but that's just how I feel/felt regarding the movie. In regards to my earlier comments on Travels With My Aunt and Mame being shot on videotape, I can't recall the source but I thought I had read that somewhere, that's why the films look so different. I'm probably wrong though.
-
I just got done watching Travels With My Aunt, and boy does that film look bad. I'm guessing it was filmed on videotape instead of film stock, b/c it reminded me of the movie version of Mame w/ Lucille Ball which was filmed on videotape as well...right? Maggie Smith looked garrish w/the red hair and caked on makeup and lipstick. The movie was okay, but for some reason I went into this thinking this was the other Maggie Smith movie, Room With A View, don't ask me why. I read some history of this movie and it was originally a vehicle for Katherine Hepburn and to be honest with the script as is I can't see Kate in this role. I know she was presented the film, and chose to rewrite the script herself but her version was turned down so she walked, yet they used part of her script. Maggie Smith is great in this movie, overacting...yes but the role calls for it. The movie made me think of Auntie Mame, like this could have been a sequel of sorts. So if they remade this movie and stuck more to the book, who do you think could pull this off? I think Meryl Streep or Helena Bonham Carter could do it justice. If Meryl, they could have one of her daughters play the younger versions of the character easily.

I liked watching how the checkerboard cake was made too. It was a lot simpler than I thought previously. I agree though, the cake did look sloppy not being frosted all the way, and it also looked like it was going to topple when she went to move it.
-
I loved that too even though I knew from the beginning it would end up she wasn't talking to anyone. Since when has Francine really had any friends? I still think i'm done w/ this show. I like this show more when it's off the rails and the A-plot is more crazy Roger centric. I really feel like they neutered him with the network switch.

I think that Amy and Dan still yearn to be back in the inner circle at the White House. Dan was forced out and Amy chose to leave, but you can tell they both want back in, so of course they are going to jump at any chance that might gain them favor to re-join the group. They knew that Gary was just the mouthpiece, they probably both thought that Selina wanted them to help quash the bill. They both know that Selina uses Gary to do the dirty work most of the time.

This movie was great, and I agree Kelli deserves some award recognition, but the Emmys are going to be tough this year...You have Frances McDormand for Olive Kittridge (check this movie out if you haven't seen it and you will see why she is the front-runner) and Queen Latifah for Bessie. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't put Susan Sarandon in the lead actress field for this movie as well...it seems to be her movie just as much as Kelli's. Kelli, Susan, and Emily all brought it. Why isn't Emily Watson getting more mainstream roles. Some network needs to get her on a series and stat.
-
Wow...I couldn't believe the hatred Amy still has for Selina. I would think Amy would recognize that she took her verbal tirade to heart by choosing Tom James. I'm guessing Amy didn't realize that it was Ericsson who blocked Amy and Dan from the White House and not Selina...just so he could get the credit for bringing in the congressman. I'm not saying that Selina would have welcomed Amy back w/ open arms, but I bet she would have been glad to see her. This episode it looks like we started to see more of the real Tom James...it looks like he has his own agenda...as well as everyone else on this show. I guess he isn't the quiet, folksy arm candy like we all were show at the beginning. Still loving Ben and his quips. What the hell was that granny gown that Selina was wearing? I'm not saying she should have been in a negligee or anything but maybe a presidential pajama set or a so pajama pants and a t-shirt w/ a robe or something more than that. For that matter the presidential bedroom left a little to be desired. So if the President is bed-ridden due to illness wouldn't most things be put off to another day...like her meetings w/the joint chiefs and all that. Her secret meetings w/her circle to get the bill quashed is another thing I understand, but setting up the office outside her bedroom?

Season One Talk: Spring Baking Championship
CMH1981 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Spring Baking Championship [V]
I would have swapped out Damiano and put in Simone in the finale...I think she really would have brought it w/ the wedding cake challenge as well as the dessert bar. After the Simone fondant purse debacle I guess you aren't supposed to eat the fondant, which I didn't know. Heck, even Duff said as much that he usually asks if they want him to remove the fondant before he serves the cake. Damian would have used the fondant like the other two but obviously he had never touched the stuff b/c he had no idea really how to work it. I loved seeing those muscles struggle to get that fondant he needed. During the first challenge I wasn't paying attention completely and all I heard were "bar" and "dessert" so as I was watching the part where they were showing some of their desserts and they weren't in "bar" form I was thinking well he didn't understand the challenge and was going to get pinged bad. -
Season One Talk: Spring Baking Championship
CMH1981 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Spring Baking Championship [V]
Andy got what is called the "winner's edit" where they focus on him on the last episode. I was glad Andy won b/c let's face it, imo, those other cakes were horrible looking as wedding cakes. Damiano crashed and burned big time w/the wedding cake, and i'm not sure why. Pressure? He was freaking out way too much over the outside decoration and that icing was just horrible looking on his cake. When he went before the judges he knew he blew it, they were being nice to him about the decoration. To be fair to Duff...he does know cakes so I would trust his judgement, but it seemed like he realized someone needed to criticize something about Andy's cake. I couldn't believe Dwayne just slapped those chocolate panels on there, he should have figured out an alternating pattern or something. So...on to FNS next week... -
Yeah, the forcing the kids to paint activity was beyond stupid...i'm sure Ree probably rolled her eyes when they asked her to have the kids do that. I do wonder if all the family was actually on the ranch that weekend but they only needed two of the four kids for this episode.

Anyone up for watching Linda and Teddy re-enact scenes from Fifty Shades of Grey? http://www.vulture.com/2015/05/watch-linda-belcher-do-fifty-shades-of-grey.html
