  1. I'm not impressed. It appears this show is simply about terrorism. E Corps destruction is meaningless. It's a power play by Dark Army. That's pedestrian. All that remains of interest is whatever Angela believes. This is sort of like if The Sopranos, which has some cool hooks and style as well, would have been about a low level soldier wanting to rise to lead a family. Yawn.
  2. I ... Fast forwarded through a lot of this, the fake suspense stuff. I haven't cared about Phase II all season. The only interesting part is whatever Angela meant by seeing their parents again.
  3. I'm bored, too. What is Frank even doing? He just seems to wander from scene to scene. I thought he was more driven than this.
  4. Something is clearly wrong with me because I laughed at Lizzy and Tom in the car on the way to the hospital, each trying to out dramatic the other. “Promise me... tell Agnes about me.” Self centered to the end, our Lizzy. The over use of slow mo and music made it even funnier. I liked the audacity of the time jump. They killed the wrong person though, of that duo. I cannot imagine who the bones belong to that could change things so much if it were known. Aliens? Abraham Lincoln? Lenin? Don’t care, either. And I care even less who dates who on this show. Lizzy has never worked as a character. Tom did, except for everything to do with Lizzy. Everyone else is a side show except Red, of course, who is the reason to watch.
  5. So like Scooby Do? I guess that fit the tone. They had to because the script said so, not because it made any sense.
  6. Just got around to this ep. Other than seeing Katee again, it was pretty bad. So many inconsistencies, and silly writing. Also, the fact Amunet is supposed to be smart and powerful did not jibe at all with the way Katee played her, which was buffoonish and over the top. And I don’t know why the ladies thought they could take on a meta and her gang.
  7. I didn’t get the ending. No idea what it was supposed to symbolize or why Max liked it so much. I did like the scene where everyone volunteered to take Max, and Max's reaction, which I *think* was an acknowledgement that her mom managed to surround her kids with good, caring people as they grew up and their dad was absent, and Max realized it. Also, I know Louis C.K. and PA wanted that Mother song at the opening. And I know why Lennon write it. What does it have to do with Sam and her daughters, though? This show can be very real and sweet and I love that. And then there is a while ‘nother level I don’t get at all.
  8. This is the first MF episode that I turned off and deleted without finishing. After seeing two stories of how individuals who allegedly were winners were actually frauds, I lost interest.
  9. Lizzzzz wasn’t annoying and there was a great and dark twist... not bad. The whole “black men being shot by cops” was an anvil. The story Cooper told was crap. If a cop pulls you over, and tells you to get back in your car, and you refuse and teach for your wallet, what do you think will happen? I get that it’s implied that he was pulled over for no reason, which may be true but we don’t know what happened so it’s all hearsay. Writers do better.
  10. I don’t know what happened, but my DVR only hit the last few minutes of one episode and then the whole of the second episode. So all I saw was Gretchen awake in bed (of course), Jimmy leaving, the car on fire and Jimmy’s smile. I don’t know who Walter is. Even so, I have no desire to see what I missed because if it ended up with Gretchen being psycho again, no thanks. But that’s OK, she saves it for later when she tells Jimny she is moving in with Boone and she and Jimmy can’t be friends. And then she refuses his apology. And then falls back on her personal insecurity and yet is angry for Jimmy for it. Yay for Lindsay at least. And Gretchen, hate to break it to you, but you have always chosen yourself.
  11. This was the funniest line of the show for me. So perfect.
  12. I've always liked Kevin. He is honest and doesn't coddle, and he is clear about his motives. I'd much prefer to deal with him than people who say meaningless nice things. As a father, I was embarrassed for us all when I saw the male paternity clothes. Come on, dude. It isn't that hard.
  13. A-ha. So Lee never did say he shot Gamby last episode. I thought so. It's a shame Lee didn't make that point more clearly then. Could have saved them both a lot of grief. So Gamby shouted down the tiger? They finished the show with all the main characters on appropriate paths. Good for Amanda, having her book published. Did Abbott think Lee had died, while she was sitting in the cop car? I loved how the one trailing cop was holding her dress train. And BTW, if I EVER drive to my secluded home and find an ex sitting on the steps in a wedding dress? I am backing right the fuck up and driving off. It took me a while to get this show, but I really did enjoy it. Thanks Danny, Walter and everyone behind it. I'll never be able to explain to anyone why it's a good show. I may not even try. But I liked it a lot.
  14. My wish is that this show would stop making all the adult men into idiots and assholes. It's grown tiring. I love how strong the women are. Can we see the same for the men? The closest it comes is Hopper, and he is clearly flawed, controlling and not always that bright. Bob was originally supposed to be an asshole, according to the "Beyond Stranger Things" special and interviews, and only became sweet (though clueless) because they liked Astin so much. Even the teen becoming a man (Billy) is an asshole. Stop it, show.
  15. Mentioning race in passing is gratuitous, when you do it frequently for no reason. Mentioning it to make a point, like the election night Dave Chappelle skit, is awesome. What SNL seems to be doing more and more is mention it to pander to those who think every mention is worth a "hooray." Same for sexual harassment lately. I would have liked it better is she has been less manic. I work with HR people in big corporations daily, and they are far more cynical and knowing and therefore less jittery than Cecily's character was. They get it, they've seen it and they aren't surprised by it. There was actually quite a bit of discussion in the Twitterverse about whether Swift was lip syncing the second song that everyone liked so much. I watched a couple of times and can't be sure either way. Her lip movements did seem to trail the words just a hair, but she was very close. And yet she never did anything that wasn't within the song, no little comments or trills or noises, so it also seemed fishy.
  16. So there is an answer, and it isn't the flip "because Cartman is an asshole," which made no sense given the priority given to this story line for months. I've been posting for weeks about Cartman and Heidi and the unclear purpose of their conflict. I didn't see the Trump analogy because we already have a Trump figure (Garrison). This ep finally made it clear. Well played, show.
  17. Cold open - Indulgent and boring. Maybe Alabamans cared? It’s clear the show enjoys making fun of Jeff Sessions because Kate is so good. But there was no point to this. Monologue- Gratuitous. I think aside from a very tiny part of the population, we all know that pulling out your dick is wrong. It’s a cheap laugh. Ultimate Fighter - OK. It needed more than one joke. Democrats - Kind of fun. All politicians are so full of themselves, on both sides, and think what they believe and say matters. It doesn’t. They forget it’s about us. The short - Went nowhere. Aside from the wig. Taylor Swift - First saw her years ago, performing live on a morning show. Her voice sounded awful, she wasn’t particularly atttactive and I thought she would be a flash in the pan. Thanks to technology and image makers, she isn’t. So you go girl? WU - Huh. So Roy Moore really dresses like that? Some sharp one liners. HR lady - more gratuitous sexual harrassment comments. We recognize that 99 percent of us don’t do those things, right? Fast forwarded it after the doll. Che was especially on fire this time. Loved his Uber driver comment. I don’t know who this host is. And why give Ball’s dad any attention? Black Unicorn - This show really likes to point out race in passing. Tamika - Race again. Is Tamika supposed to be woke and unaware of how ridiculous she sounds? Women and Dolphins - OK. Another skit with tremendous attention to detail and one long joke. Taylor Swift’s eye make up is weird. Cats - Did anyone in the audience hear “Ah got the pussy!” Tiffany went for it here. That was fun. Ah, Kat Williams. Morris Day did it better. Oh, she’s a stand up comedienne?
  18. I’m with Frankie here. Just because you are related doesn’t mean you are close or even matter. If you don’t see people, or get to know them, then the fact they are “family” is meaningless. I️have friends who are more family than family. This show can be amazing. It’s the pacing and reality of relationships I️ think. Duke, tell people what you saw! Don’t get the appeal of cold, muddy beaches.
  19. And I was the opposite. I kept wanting the kids, in their various combinations, off my screen and I wanted to know more about why this evil thing existed, what it wanted and how it knew about our world. El was the one exception, because that actress was so good. I think they screwed up her detour to find her sister. I thought they were going to bring her sister back, and maybe one or two others of the original lab kids, because they ALL had a role to play in ending the evil that was mismanaged by their tormentors. When she didn't come back with El, I was surprised and hated that we had to watch an hour of the 80s film, "Warriors," for no reason.
  20. I actually laughed at that, and wondered about Lucas' grasp on reality. Bob's death is yet another example of why this show regularly disappoints me. if it isn't the fact that characters don't talk to each other when they clearly should, it's because a character does something inexplicable just so something specific can happen. I saw no reason at all for Bob to stop where he did, just as there was no reason for Hopper to explore the tunnel without telling someone, anyone where he was first. If they would clean that up, Stranger Things would be in my top 10.
  21. Happy to. So did Lee actually acknowledge he shot Gamby? I was waiting for definitive acknowledgement, and the dialogue seemed to skip over that to Lee getting upset that Gamby would think he shot him. Lee didn't deny it, but that doesn't mean he did it, does it?
  22. Yes, that's one possibility. As is the scenario I outlined, twice now. Why are we talking about this? It's no bigger than your assumptions. In fact, based on the fact that we never see her mother speak English even to Lee, who as far as we can tell isn't Korean (I hope I said that right, geez) and who speaks only English, I'd say her mother doesn't speak English because she can't, not because she is trying to keep the language alive in the home (which has no children, BTW) or some such. I could be wrong. She could be really, really stubborn. Or she does it to irk Lee. Or it's an artistic choice by the director. All are possibilities. Yes. Yes, she could. As I noted. Or it could mean she was very good at learning English when she came here. Or it could mean she learned English abroad from someone with an American accent. What's your point? I have a close friend who married a Vietnamese woman, and she came to the US with the hope she could bring family members over in time. She still struggles with English, years later. She brought her then 5yo son soon after (she had him out of wedlock and the father fled, making her less attractive to men/families in her town), who is now 18 and speaks almost flawless American English. And she has brought a sister over as well, and she would like to bring over her mother. As I said before, it happens. Unless you think it doesn't happen, I'm not sure why you are listing every possibility in response to my post that said I first considered one thing, and then thought probably not.
  23. Finally... some action on this show. And we mean horror action, not sex action. This has been very slow this season, just like last season. Almost quit watching around ep 3. It still bugs me that these characters don’t talk to each other. On the other hand, they have guts. The scene at the end, with the beeping motion dots and Paul Reiser, brought back memories of being scared shitless the first time we saw Aliens.
  24. Because of the evidence we were given. Christine had a clearly first generation immigrant mother. Christine went to university in the US. She could easily have been a foreign student who married to get citizenship and bring family over. Happens all the time. As I said, that was my initial thought. Then, as I posted, given her career i thought she wouldn't need to marry for that.
  25. That was a god awful monologue. Quasimodo seemed like something a bad stand up comic would do, and I don’t care how Jewish you are. I was surprised how bad it was; expected more from LD. Cold open was gratuitous. It didn’t say anything, just expressed glee over Manafort and implied Trump issues. I actually first thought Manafort was Trump’s son for a few lines. Manafort is way more sleezy than that. Leslie was odd in the Price is Right skit. Almost like she hadn’t seen the lines before. They should have done more with Bernie and Pete. They were a good combination. I really haven’t watched Sarah Huckabee enough to know what to make of that skit. The advertising skit missed a great opportunity to tie the use of those words in the 80s, which were in fact commonly used in those ways at that time, with the sexual harassment claims today and how some verbal behaviors between equals that have everyone aghast were also common then and usually laughed off. Just like some people drank at lunch during the workday. Context matters, something no one recognizes today. Miley seems to have finally grown up, which was good to see. She really is talented. Finally, someone said we should just ignore Triump’s tweets. I love their Donald Jr and Eric. The repeated hand gestures were awesome. Poor Eric. Che and his “both showed up late” line was wonderful. Good to see the Astros. Leslie was hilarious. The high school show was just odd. A professor saying a high school kid is sexy? That got weird fast. Another lit cigarette/ cigar. Ugh. I had to look up quank. I was surprised to learn I understood the rest. What happened to Larry? i kind of lost interest after that.
