  1. IIRC, they changed Asha to Yara so the viewers wouldn't confuse her with Osha. Nothing to do with Targs. But, speaking of Targs, the reason Robert wad able to take over Westeros was because of his (and Stannis') Targ blood. Otherwise, it might have been Ned or John Arryn, but they weren't descended from the ruling family.
  2. Yes, he was. The Fingers owe allegiance to Arryn, just like the Umbers owe allegiance to Winterfell.
  3. There are actually TWO different cookbooks. The official one is A FEAST OF ICE AND FIRE. There's also THE UNOFFICAL GAME OF THRONES COOKBOOK: FROM DIREWOLF ALE TO AUROCH STEW.
  4. But he has to come out of his room eventually, and they outnumber him. I don't get the sense that they agree with him, or that they were happy about the failure of the first batch of Waywardians. From a purely self-interested viewpoint, if the Abbies rampage through the town THEY'LL be the ones who have to rebuild it AGAIN. These people were volunteers who wanted to save humanity. Killing off successive batches of people doesn't seem like a winning strategy to achieve this. And, presumably, they thawed out the most promising people first, so the chances of success with a new batch keeps decreasing.
  5. I don't understand why the other people in the mountain would let Pilcher get away with this.
  6. I don't think that Cersei is "dumb" per se. But she THINKS she's a tactical and strategic genius, and she's not. She's surrounded by people who are WAY better at the "Game of Thrones" than she is, but she can't or won't see that.
  7. I watched it on demand on Comcast. So it's your cable company's fault.
  8. Exactly. They have a hypnotherapist and Pilcher is apparently a psychologist (among other things). They don't have to wake everyone all at once. They wake up one person, explain everything carefully, with appropriate psychological support. Maybe give them a tour of the complex. And see if they're able to cope. If not, back into the freezer. Eventually, they'd have enough people to run the place. And they could take some of the "headquarters" staff and temporarily reassign them to the town to keep things running.
  9. That would mean that there's an astronomer in town. I think they've purposefully excluded any scientists so that no one will ask the hard questions.
  10. I'm STILL not sure that Cersei was telling the truth about the baby she and Robert had on the show. If it was stillborn, I guess Maggy the Frog's prophecy could still be true, as it would be if Cersei was lying to Cat. Show Cersei is a lot more sympathetic than book Cersei, and, IMO, more realistic.
  11. I was disappointed by the addition of a certain character in the first season, but, since you don't know about that yet, I'll leave it for later. Both Jorah and Ser Barristen were MUCH more interesting on the show (silver foxes!) than in the book. Especially Jorah, who was a lot less likeable in the books.
  12. THIS! But to be fair to the characters, magic hasn't seemed to exist in Westeros for centuries, and Nan's tales of the Others are believed to be nothing more than fairy tales. They DO have proof that there were dragons (and direwolves) in the past, but they're believed to be extinct. You asked earlier if I had changed my opinion of any characters in the course of reading the books. Stannis was pretty much a nonentity to me until he showed up at the Wall. He was the ONLY one who answered the Night's Watch's call for help against the REAL enemy. So yay, Stan! Sansa grew on me a lot. She was just a silly teen at the beginning, but she grew up really fast. When she saved Ser Dontos at Joffrey's birthday tourney, that was really clever and kind. Dany, OTOH, was great in the first book, but rapidly got bogged down in various cities in Essos making really stupid decisions.
  13. What Abigail did to Austin was pretty horrible. It's right up there with what Sami and Nicole have done, but they were punished for their sins while all Abigail got was a stern talking to from Jack (Jenn didn't even do that).
  14. KM would be better suited for ANY one dimensional character, villain or heroine. She's just not good at any kind of subtlety. Personally, I think KM would be better suited for a different profession -- modeling, perhaps? Something where she doesn't have to ACT.
  15. Eric "saved" Nicole for about three minutes, then she "saved" him for another three minutes. Now they're both in jeopardy and I suspect Daniel the Magnificent will end up saving them both (again). Serena blames Nicole for DOING HER JOB and finding out about Serena and Xander's criminal past/diamond smuggling. Maggie hadn't eaten and was hypoglycemic. (And Maggie was the sponsor to the person she said needed her help.) It was just a red herring to keep Daniel out of the way so that Xander could threaten Nicole.
  16. As a long-time book walker, I just want to say thank you to all the unsullied. Your insights and opinions about A Show have been highly entertaining and remind me of how I felt when I first read the books. If you're hoping to get the answers to all your questions by reading the books, I fear you'll be as frustrated as we are, waiting for GRRM to finish the books!
  17. A psycho killer just tried to kill you, but your ex knocked him out! There are THREE cell phones and a land line in the room. Why WOULDN'T you call the police? And, IDK, maybe tie him up, take his gun, barricade the door to keep out his henchwoman, and wait for your ex's dad, the cop, to show up?
  18. I'm pretty sure it's a reference to Jar Jar Binks, of the second (prequel) STAR WARS trilogy. A character universally hated by fans.
  19. That's what they SAID to the children, but I don't buy it. They could just as easily have indoctrinated the adults while they were in the "hospital."
  20. Either this is really BAD science fiction, or the "Truth" isn't the real (or whole) truth. It doesn't make sense that humans would "devolve" in only 2000 years. Society might collapse, but humans would still be human. And if they're trying to create some sort of ark, why aren't they trying for self-sufficiency? No farms, no factories, no infrastructure of any kind exists in WP! Where do they get the spare parts, where do the electricity and gasoline come from, what do they do with all the waste, what will they do when they run out of food? And none of this explains why they're lying to the adults and killing people willy nilly.
  21. I don't think it's aliens. I'm going with "Government Conspiracy." The other Secret Service agent is in on it and the people in the Boise office MUST know something is going on.
  22. I got that impression when Clyde was first introduced. I'm actually surprised he hasn't been murdered yet. Both Stefano and Victor have reasons to want him dead. I don't know if anyone has figured out that he's behind E.J.'s murder, but Victor knows he was behind the attack on Sonny.
