Haha. Yes, something along the lines of "it's a lovely book." Fortunately, she doesn't know I bought it, but if I cross email paths with her again and she asks, I'll probably just congratulate her on her success.

My post reflects the level of respect I have for the posters here. I knew folks would appreciate it (and not in Robyn's understanding of "appreciate" haha).

So, completely off topic: I just read a first novel by a young woman with whom I became acquainted over work emails last year. I was so excited for her, and the book sounded like it would be a fun beach read "chick lit" kind of thing. It came out to great fanfare a couple months ago, and I was looking forward to writing to her to say how much I'd enjoyed it. The problem? The book is absolutely terrible. I was appalled. The subject matter was unobjectionable, the characters a bit overdramatic - but the real issue was that it seemed completely unedited. There were so many sentences that just didn't make any sense. Some examples for your enjoyment: A description of 6 or 7 people sprawled on a couch enumerates "a dozen pairs of feet." Another: "My phone buzzed announcing a new text on my phone." A character is described as whispering, but in the next sentence, his "voice morphed back down to lower decibels." A few pages later, "my stomach did a million backflips in reprieve." (In context, I think the writer meant to say "relief" although backflips generally suggest excitement. If you're going to alter a metaphor, at least find the right substitute!) Brand names are everywhere: a stereo is "Bose" with music coming through a "Spotify app," to name just two. Hackneyed phrases in a potential wedding toast are described as "mundane cliches and platitudes" (as opposed to profound ones, it seems). Entering a room feels "like walking into a powder keg." Another emotional situation is described as a "chemical explosion waiting to set fire." (If this were edited as "catch fire" it still wouldn't make much sense. Obviously someone thought this was a fancy way of saying "an explosion waiting to happen" but it just doesn't work.) The worst? "We had all reached our emotional bandwidths." Outdone a few pages later by: "Worries were already zipping at the highest echelon throughout my every pore." If you've read this far, I look forward to your reactions!

Christine Brown Woolley: Nacho Sister Wife Anymore
Teafortwo replied to Rhondinella's topic in Sister Wives
On Christine's instagram she thanks some bridal shop for the dress and their help with getting her out of her comfort zone. I can just imagine the shop ladies oohing and ahhing over this dress, despite its obvious flaws. I have no problem with an older woman wanting to show some skin (even if wrinkled) but as others have said, this is completely unflattering. Gwen should have given her mother some advice (she wore a nice off the shoulder dress to Logan's wedding). That having been said, imo Maddie's dress is the worst of the three. It's just wrong in every possible way. So ugly! -

Janelle may have Maddie in her downline, which might account for the difference. -
Books and documentaries about polygamy: Let's gather them here!
Teafortwo replied to CouchTater's topic in Sister Wives
Reviving this thread. I got a notice about a new documentary by a woman named Ondi Timoner. Her name sounded familiar - I knew I'd seen one of her other docs some time ago - so I looked her up. This was the doc: https://www.interloperfilms.com/join-us-shop. It's about families who've escaped a cult. The screening was quite awhile ago now and while I don't remember much about the details, I do remember being impressed by it, and by the talk she gave afterward. I'll probably watch it again soon. Also, there is a chapter in a book by journalist Sarah Davidson that's about a polygamist family circa 1970. One of the wives is an attorney. All the wives say how great it is, they work together etc and they seem happy but the undercurrent is as sad as you'd expect. The book is called "Real Property." I don't have it handy but it's an anthology and all of the essays are excellent. I'm pretty sure this essay and the above documentary are two of the things that made me interested in Sister Wives when it first came out. In the first few episodes, though, I remember thinking that the only interesting thing about the OG3 was that they'd all chosen to marry the same man. They all seemed so bland! -
I've been staying home. The smoke from Canada is terrible here in NYC. An acquaintance sent me this pic:

I actually get a good vibe from Mitch. He seemed respectful of Aspyn and not a camera hog (camera shy, if anything). I also admire his mama for getting away from the cult and making a successful, creative life for herself. The fact that she's the person who raised Mitch is a plus imo.

I think the bottom line is Mykelti was lonely. Her mother kicked her out of the house when she dropped out of college. She didn't know anyone in St. George except her "boss" (the owner of the pawn shop). Along came Tony, and his similarity to her father made him seem familiar, and therefore safe. I didn't like the way he treated her on the "hike" up to where he proposed. And there were cameras! However, she does seem happy and seems to adore Tony and the kids, so I suppose it worked out. Marrying Tony seemed like a rebellious gesture at the time - at least to her mother. The way they all treated her around her engagement and wedding was despicable, and I'm sure it strengthened the bond between her and Tony further.

Thanks! I'd love a show like that about the Browns too. I never watched the Duggars. Since the Browns pronounce deal as "dill" does that mean they would pronounce dill as "deal"? And if so, would they call this Deal pickle popcorn? Mysteries of the universe... kind of like 'what is the sound of one hand clapping"

Thanks, I was under the mistaken impression that it was more of an expose of fundamentalism in general. I read a couple of synopses. Yuck

Happy Birthday @Gramto6 and may you see the moon! -
Someone mentioned a polygamy or fundamentalist docu-series that is starting this month. Can anyone remind me what it's called or what network it's on please?

Janelle Brown: Smarter Than Your Average Brown (Maybe)
Teafortwo replied to Rhondinella's topic in Sister Wives
Yes but she's a motivational speaker!! (wannabe) -
I just hope they minimize the amount of time devoted to the Padron family. I think Tony is very funny on the show, but on the few Patreon videos I watched before I canceled after a month, he came across as conceited, and monopolized the conversations to an annoying degree. He really is similar to Kody, minus the polygamy, pettiness/meanness and receding hairline.

Don't give TLC any ideas. With the way they do recaps and repeat scenes, they'd only have to do about 10 mins of new content in a 30 minute show. Maybe less since commercials. (Come to think of it, I bet they'll do something very similar, since there really is no drama. They'll just show the knife to kidney scene over and over. "Preeeviously on the show previously about Sister Wives..."
-
Can you imagine it going through such a large group? Oy vay
-
I read somewhere (probably Reddit) that the whole family had measles shortly after signing on to do the show, so filming had to be delayed for some time - hence the "courtship" as well.
-
While I don't wish to see a show heavily featuring Kody and Robyn, it would be kind of funny/sad/poetic if they renamed the show "Kody and Robyn minus 15" (16-Mykelti =15 lol)
-
The issue I see is really with the kids. Aspyn and Mitch have stayed off social media, Gwen is still in Flagstaff and who knows if TLC would want to include her storyline since she's gone public with her show rewatch/youtube/patreon and would probably not sign an NDA. I've seen some of her commentary and it sounds like she and her fiancee would like for their wedding to be filmed but TLC turned them down. In any case, these are adults who are working, going to school, hanging out with family etc. The only notable thing, really, is that we watched them grow up on TV. Then there are Ysabel, Paedon and Truely. What is Ysabel's storyline, if she wanted to participate in filming? Lovely young woman but no TV-style drama (good for her, not good for the show). Paedon we know is a fame-seeker, but he'd likely be a giant turnoff to the mostly female audience. I know I do not want to watch him at all. Hopefully Truely is allowed some input as to whether or not she wants her life to keep on being filmed. I strongly suspect she'd opt out if given the choice, except maybe for the usual filmed family gatherings and maybe a couple of "talking heads." For her sake, I hope she stays off camera as much as possible. Pretty sure Christine will continue trying to exploit her though. Look at the way they handled her finding out about the move. Awful. That leaves Tony, Mykelti and their kids, Christine and David, Kody and Robyn (and the tenders). Out of that group the only one who brings any real drama is, ironically, Ari. (Kody does of course but imo he is unwatchable.) Of course they could do a whole bunch of shows introducing Christine to David's kids and grandkids. Bo-ring! Everyone's current activities are over-exposed on social media. The show itself has run its course but will stay on the air as long as we keep watching and discussing.

She's been pushing Plexiglass hard on her Instagram. Barf. -
Robyn Brown: She wanted the family, but got stuck with the man.
Teafortwo replied to Rhondinella's topic in Sister Wives
When things fall apart between Kody and Robyn, she'll blame him for misleading her from the start (telling her the OG2 were close, for ex.), for crushing her dream, etc. -
Christine Brown Woolley: Nacho Sister Wife Anymore
Teafortwo replied to Rhondinella's topic in Sister Wives
Iirc, she was homeschooled until the move to Utah. I feel like this is a place where we can all feel free to judge if we like. Imo if Christine moved her mid-term or even in between semesters after only 1.5 years of Truely having regular access to peers of her own age, it was selfish. They could have waited 3 months before moving. -

It's at least a 20 minute drive from where they lived before, so unless Truely was already going to school in Lehi before the move, she would have changed schools. I forget the name of the town they lived in before but it was closer to SLC. -

Christine posted a pic of herself walking home from walking Truely to school the other day. She was on a bridge over a river, with mountains in the background that looked similar to the mountains behind the new house, which is very close to the Snake River. I truly (no pun intended) hope that for Truely's sake, they moved into the new house before the current school semester began. In that case, Christine and David would have had to close on the new house by January, which dates the start of their relationship earlier than publicly announced. Guess we'll have to wait a few more years to find out.
