  1. Defiance was a week behind Killjoys & Dark Matter as a finale Date though too. It might be Skiffy is just waiting for all the dvr numbers to come in before making a decision.
  2. I really hope this isn't the season finale because I still love this show. I know this show is less rating based because the video game makes it easier for it to be profitable Is there any news on how that is doing? I'm not a gamer so I literally know nothing about that aspect of the show these days. I think considering Nolan is the shows lead if the show is back so will he. I suspect will budget determine if he will be in space or back on the ground more than anything sadly. I wonder if that was why we got the Omec this season actually. There was no mention of them this time last year. Nor or are they any of the promo materials like the Volge or the Gulanee. This season was supposed to be all about the VC. I wonder if TPTB were planning to do more with Brazil and maybe even take our characters there but got told that wasn't in the budget by Skiffy. The Omec might have been conceived as band aid to fix the hole that left in the story. They seemed much less planned out than other aspects of the show.
  3. It took me a minute too. It probably doesn't help that I haven't watched the show in about ten years. That voice is exactly the same especially when she gets snarky. I knew right away she was familiar and when they played the clip I went "Ohhh". I think Cece is still producing dance stuff. Its not as lucrative as a solid gold single but it still pays. I agree with Cece about the house though. I don't think its about money Hannibal just seems to have control issues. Even if he makes peanuts Family Matters was a top ten show and Kimberly was the second lead for most of its very long run she was probably making around $25,000 an episode on the low end (I seem to remember Urkel was actually one of the top ten highest paid men on tv at one point).. Even if she made some bad investments she should be able to by the house Cece took them to a few times over. Those children were adorable though just so cute and they speak so well. Kelly was actually really funny and even Cece had some good moment. See this is good television and why I watch the show not like last weeks trainwreck.
  4. I suspect it has something to do with why the RAC is producing trained killers in the first place. In my head either they're creating an army the nine can use when the quad decides to fight back. Or the RAC is planning to overthrow the Company and is creating an army for that purpose. The RAC could be trying to start a military coup and take over the government for themselves. All things considered they can't be worse than the Nine. Like the Louis XVI the Nine seem to have forgotten that a government serves at the pleasure of its people not the other way around. All the bombs in the world won't keep people down forever. Not to mention the Company needs Westerly as a workforce to survive so killing off all them isn't a viable option.
  5. There could be a couple of reasons for that. 1) Considering all the records only list a county in Ireland rather than a specific place it entirely probable there simply were no records beyond the g-g-grandfather. You can often find ship or immigration records for that era but all it takes is someone transposing a letter and you'll never find those records. 2) If you watched the Rosie O'Donnell episode its likely Bryan Cranston's ancestors had a similar story. Most Irish immigrants to Montreal at that time were famine survivors and the stories are heartbreaking. Especially considering that their were only 4 other families with that name at the time in Montreal. It could be his family was one of the cases where an entire community moved at once because there was simply nothing left. I wouldn't blame him if he simply wasn't interested in hearing that. Especially given how little he was likely to find in Ireland. 3) I wouldn't be surprised if one the stops he made in Montreal filled him on some of this and the show simply didn't include it. . The hospitals most of the Irish refugees were processed through would have been run by the Catholic church the same way the children's home was. They may have done other searches and turned up other information. The show may have felt the story of the g-g-grandfathers abandonment was more interesting. (Especially since as I said it was probably something similar to Rosie's story)
  6. I finally got around to watching this and I have to say Iiked it more than I though I would. I definitely thing it was a little long and slow. Its one where I'm glad I waited to watch it at home. Its a lot easier to be patient with something like this when you can just hit pause and go the bathroom if you need to. I could definitely agree that Matt Damon's part should have been cut down and was more than a little self indulgent. The visuals though were amazing and I will forgive a movie a lot if it looks as amazing as this one did. I actually think that might have had more to do with Coopers crew being so close to the black hole. The mentioned Miller's data was caught in a loop due the relativity effects I wonder if their transmissions weren't doing the same things. If they were using any kind of radio waves it could be bent into all kinds of pretzel shapes by a black hole. The transmissions from earth would have been coming from far enough away to be less affected. Its like shooting a bullet through a whirlpool if you try and shoot through it while its sucking you in and tossing you around your probably not going to shoot straight. But if stand on a cliff overlooking the whirlpool the bullet would be going fast enough the water isn't going to push it around as much. The twelve scientists on the planets would have been helped by the fact that they were on a more fixed point as well as being on the surface away somewhat away from the effects of the blackhole. Cooper surviving the black hole didn't really bother me. No one knows what happens inside a blackhole so for all we know it is possible to survive it. The only part of the ending I didn't get was how Cooper was supposed to get Brandt if the wormhole had collapsed. Or was just the part the Cooper was what collapsed?
  7. I would laugh so hard if one of the other Omec just walked up to Kindzi smacked her accroos the face and said "Shut up idiot child I'm in charge now" "Now where is this Australia Tev'gin mentions in his log" and then the Omec can all fly away as far as I care. Unless this story takes some kind of interesting twist in the next episode the Omec have outstayed their welcome IMO.
  8. .Its not about "whatever it takes" it about interpretation. Unless you have some insider knowledge you cannot say for sure what "the show" is doing. Your simply seeing a Johnny/Dutch bias within the show. I think the show is shipping everyone right now. Its a pretty common first season tactic. Throw everyone together and decide on who sticks after renewal. That's my opinion and you are welcome to disagree. However you might want consider that I am not one to roll over and declare myself converted so its might be best to agree to disagree. I suspect the thinking behind these cuffs is the electronic locks can't be picked like traditional cuffs. They might also be adjustable so the trick of dislocation your thumb wouldn't work either. Or you know the writers had an idea and didn't put half as much thought into this stuff as we do.
  9. Yeah the whole Callum/Bethany/Sarah mess is one of the first time I've used the fast forward button while watching Corrie in a long time. Bethany and Sarah are actually great I love their scenes of them together. Its Callum who is played by one of the worst actors I've seen anywhere. The idiot who plays Morgan Corinthos on GH is practically Shakespearean compared to this guy.
  10. Eh I think if there really was attraction between these two someone would have acted on it by now. I think its more a case where they love each other so much and they re so important they think they should be together as more than friends. I think it would be forced if they tried and it might cost them something precious. Like Mal and Zoe from Firefly I think the fact that Dutch is the superior and Johny the subordinate affects things as well. I think since Dutch has always been the teacher its hard for her to see Jon as an equal. Frankly I don't see someone with Dutch's daddy issues ending up with someone who sits easily under her thumb the way Johnny does. I think Dutch actually prefers romantically D'avin because he stands up to her and challenges her, she just doesn't know how to say it without hurting Johnny's feelings. I actually like Johnny and the doc. She actually seems to appreciate Johnny kindness while Dutch seems to see it as a weakness. Besides shes a hot mess and Johnny likes to fix things. While it might not be an easy relationship it has potential to be an entertaining one.
  11. I really wish Ken had even half a realization that he played a role in who Tracy is. Although I suppose Ken ignoring his kids and then being shocked when they are less than perfect is consistent if nothing else. I do think Peter was just going toe to toe with Tracy at first. They were tearing each other to pieces in ways only they can but when she said something about how she knows she worthless, he saw how damaged she is. I don't think Peter was trying to bully Tracy I think he's probably the one who actually understands her. He sees her flaws more clearly than their parents and sees the person beneath the mask better than most of the street. Largely because they have so many of the same insecurities . I think once they sat down he was trying to be truthful and hoping Tracy would really listen to him. I think he shut down Tracy's insults not to hurt her but to keep things from escalating and turning it into another fight. I feel like Peter's speech about Amy didn't come from a place of meanness or anger but rather desperation. Peter loves Tracy and Amy dearly and wants to stop what has probably seemed like a runaway train for a very long time. Not unlike his own commitment to AA he knows Tracy needs to hit rock bottom if shes going to build herself back up again.. Even if he's currently drowning in self pity he still wants to help Tracy find her way out.
  12. This is probably the one slightly disappointing aspect of the finale because I feel this is one of the more common "feminist" themes that's actually more misandry if your really think about it. The idea that men are unreliable and women are better off without them is one of those stereotypes that hurts men and women both IMO. Its why women so often get stuck with a second shift at home and men feel in adequate. Personally I'm choosing to interpret it more as Adam and Chet are not worth and Quinn and especially Rachel need to love themselves more before they really love anybody else.
  13. Yeah I think I have something in my eye or something cuz that made me way too soppy. It was a good finale I just wish we had gotten another moment with the original rookies besides them just standing in front of the whiteboard. I did love the slideshow pic of the four of them though. Swarek's dad was gold and actually good idea, although I wish we had seen his sister again. I was wondering where the hell Marlo was though especially when Andy made that comment about "all the people we love" The vows were good I loved the screw-up with the ring and Sam calling her "McNally". The whole wedding was pretty perfect.
  14. Except that exploring the human condition makes for great sci-fi. Star Trek the new BSG Babylon 5 some of the greatest science fiction shows ever and all spent ages on the human condition. If all the show is pretty CGI and technobabble then its the old Battlestar Galatica I wouldn't want to watch that. Defiance has done some amazing things with guilt, family and identity. I would hate to see them dumb themselves down.
  15. Yeah I think so too. For one shes the easiest to blackmail. If Adam chooses Anna she could totally spill hell I could see her taking a knife to Adam if she figures out she being played. Faith makes more sense because she has the most at risk she could never burn down the Everlasting house on her way out the door. Plus I could see the network loving a hillbilly in London society angle that Faith could bring to the show.
  16. I doubt their going to make it outside the stasis net before the battle breaks out. Since they are both humans they may have no choice but to fight. That's actually a truly original way of dealing with a weapons shortage to bad our hero didn't try that from the out set. Except we had no indication that Irissa didn't want a child before she met Luke. I could see being upset from a feminist standpoint if this was retcon. However since Irrissa was introduced as an adolescent deciding she wants children could simply be part of Irissa maturing. The reality is people who don't want children are a fairly small minority(if vocal) and tv doesn't always have to represent those. The show does have Doc Yewell who probably could have had children at this point(although her age is somewhat ambiguous she is at least mid thirties or the Indogene equivalent) but has chosen not to. Simply being a non-traditional women does not mean Irissa doesn't want children. In fact I think its more progressive for the show to demonstrate that being a badass doesn't mean Irissa is completely masculine and she does in fact have a softer side. Also BSG Starbuck and President Roslin were childfree by choice and remained that way until their death so its not like there is no representation. Alak and Irissa do have several things in common. Both Votans with a strong affinity for humans. A mix of values from both sides. There is also some really great chemistry between the actors. (I almost wonder if its a case where the actors are dating in real life so TPTB thought it would be a good idea to put them together.) I'm not sure if its endgame I don't think the writers have decided that themselves yet. I wouldn't be surprised to see them drop it entirely but I'm interested in what they've shown me so far.
  17. I think it more the first rather than the second now that you mention it. Narcissistic Personality Disorder seem to fit her better than sociopathy. She clearly has some bond with Tobias and Edward so I don't think she's full on sociopathic. Narcissists still have emotion they just don't care about anyone elses. Nancy Botwin was a another fictional example IMO. Unfortunately for us Evelyn lacks Nancy's charm. Marcus may have been a true sociopath but I also wonder about the Autism spectrum. Some high functioning individuals can be manipulative the way Marcus is described(especially given the way Marcus reacts to the unexpected). Marcus might be the result of a child who was autistic but was never treated and wound up developing some really detrimental ways of coping. Like holding you anger in all day and going home to take it out on your family. Tobias has some emotional regulation issues to put it mildly but that could also be the effects of the abuse.Tobias definitely has a sensitive personality type that he probably got from his mother, he just seems to have picked up his fathers repressive coping mechanisms. All things considered though Tobias is actually probably healthier than he should be. I like to fanwank Tori was responsible for some of that. Considering the amount of shrink speak she uses I figured one of her erudite parents was a shrink and she used some of that on Tobias. I think its less Daddy issues and more fundie issues. The whole sacred mother thing is a very christian ideal. Fathers in a lot of pseudo-christian works tend to be aloof or extraneous (Aslan for example). So is forgiving your mother even if she has done absolutely nothing to deserve it. I think of it more as she created a potentially interesting story, and then she squandered it all in Allegiant. Also you might want to tag those spoilers
  18. Evelyn is clearly a narcissist and sociopath
  19. I'm wondering if for season two we won't move away from Manson a bit and move on to the Black Panthers and the riots as the main plots. Have the show be structered something like True Detectives but with Hodiak and the police remaining as the central characters. Have the show revolving around a different event each season until we get to the Tate murders and Helter Skelter.
  20. Actually Ric is Corinthos as much as Sonny is since it was Adela's maiden name. Sonny uses it because of his issues his Dad Mike(Or Morgan was Deke's name I can't remember which). Legally his last name is Morgan that's why Jason used it. I still remember the first time I saw Sonny get arrested and I wondered who the fuck Taggert was talking about.
  21. While they change a lot the lines there is definitely a slightly creepy pseudo-incestuous vibe to their relationship. Which actually given the history isn't entirely unexpected. In a situation like that a mother and son often would be slightly closer than strictly healthy because the abuse isolates them so much. I got that vibe from the books a bit too though. Particularly the way Evelyn reacts to Tris, I almost wonder if Evelyn didn't have a beef with Tris's parents considering how hostile she for no apparent reason. Yeah Veronica Roth seems to assume that simply because Evelyn is battered that she is sympathetic. Its something of a trope (the walking dead pulls it with Carol a lot too) where the fact that Evelyn was beaten by her husband in the past means she is a good person despite massive evidence to the contrary in the present. However Evelyn is still an asshole who treats her son like a prized possession regardless of her history. Evelyn seemed to feel Tobias having his own feelings about politics and people was some kind of betrayal. I get that some of that is Evelyn left behind a little boy who idolized her and wasn't sure how to relate to an adult. It just that she never adjust her tactics or expectations that make her seem so self involved. Sadly Evelyn comes across as sociopath who only really cares about her son in relation to how other people perceive them and how he see her rather than actually giving a damn about Tobias. A telling moment is in the Insurgent book when Tobias comes back from Erudite and Evelyn makes sure to get the photo op hug but Tori is the one who bothers to check over his injuries. Its a sad and scary thing when the parent who beat their child with belt starts to look like the warm caring one. As Marcus said he believed what he was doing was in his best interest and wasn't about him something Evelyn never seemed to consider. Worst of all is that the author doesn't seem to see this and thinks that telling us Evelyn loves Tobias makes it so. Sadly where the Hunger Games often would have been much improved if the author cared about psychology. This series often like Veronica Roth has read too many textbooks and not seen enough actual human interaction. Several of the characters seem to lack true motivation and instead check of boxes on a mental health sheet. Marcus for instance fits all the personality traits of a sociopath but there is never any explanation as to why. A lot of the characters seem based more in what the author has read about than actually experienced. Evelyn is justified in her actions because of what Marcus did and it neatly explains all of her actions. Except real people aren't like that so it just feels off. The story really doesn't have a lot of nuance to any of the characters. Evelyn truly is a good person but Marcus is just evil. Which is part of why the story is so frustrating because it ends up reducing the characters to stand-in for the authors moral sermons.
  22. Ken is one of the main reasons Tracy is the way she is so while its sad it not really surprising to me. Ken's temper is half the reason he's had so much trouble with his kids. He explodes and says awful things without thinking of the consequences. He does it with Peter too but they've also been able to have positive and honest conversations as well which helps. Ken also makes much more of an effort with Peter because of his own guilt but also I think because Peter is his biological son. (Despite his education and idealism Ken has always been an old school chauvinist when it counts) All of which Tracy has seen and noted I'm sure. Ken has rarely been able to actually talk to Tracy. When it came to Tracy, Ken has pretty much been either distant or screaming at her and not a lot of in between. Deidre spoiled her yes but Ken set her up for attention seeking behavior since the only time he paid attention to her was when he was screaming at her. I mean Tracy is forty now so that excuse wears a little thin but I big part of the reason I like Tracy is because she does have a valid reason for being the way she is. Worst of all she has to what wonderful pillar of the community Ken when know one really sees he actually a remarkably shitty father(Some of the crap he pulled when she was kid borders on abusive). No one except Peter which is something they've bonded over more than once.
  23. I think Kate addressed Colin's issues because he has to change schools and she wanted to get ahead of the story. Kate was trying to set the record straight before the tabloids came out with "Colin Gosselin has an IQ of 50 and still wets himself " headlines. Technically school issues like this are supposed to be confidential but that didn't stop people talking when Colin had issues adjusting to school initially. I think if all Kate wanted was sympathy she would have been teary and a lot more specific about the issues Colin had. As for what caused Colin's issues I suspect his premature birth is the culprit more than anything else. Lack of oxygen at birth can cause issues with brain development and it frequently manifest as issues like Colin's. Child abuse while it has definitely been linked to issues like bi-polar disorder really isn't likely to cause learning issues like Colin's. It doesn't really affect the right parts of the brain unless the parent is actually hitting the child in the head. It more likely that people who abuse their children are also more likely to use drugs and alcohol which cause premature birth and issues like Colin's. Or more simply correlation and causation are not the same thing. Not that I think Kate is actually abusive I just think its important to be clear when talking about issues like this.
  24. Yeah that's how I feel too. I wonder if Steve wasn't trying to root out the bad guys and got caught up in it. Or he got the explosives to plant on that gangbanger he so gung ho for and Santana swiped it. I also wonder about Steve's parents this is supposed to go pretty high up maybe one of them is involved. I seem to remember hearing that Lauren Holly would be back this season. In the even greyer area it could be that Steve is working with this gangster because he thinks he a lesser evil than a gang was or nastier gangster. I am going to fanwank that Sam was planning to get the guy to pick Oliver out of a line up or something else more official. That way no one could question if the man didn't identify Oliver later. Especially because Sam and Oliver are so close it would be easy for a good lawyer to argue that Sam coached the explosive salesmen so the guy wouldn't identify Oliver. If he holds off and gets the explosive salesman to ID someone else back at the station house with witnesses and lawyer present that goes a lot further to establishing reasonable doubt.
  25. The first episode specifically mentioned people in town raising cattle and ranching so I would imagine they have most of the standard farm fair like potatoes, grain, veggies etc Wow Im kinda surprised the scene with Nolan using the Irath as a dart board got past the sensor, that was really was disturbing. Mostly because of Irissa presence. I actually found that hard to watch. I don't blame her for being afraid of Nolan, him seeing it for the first time was heartbreaking though. I like that the show isn't afraid to show that everyone in this new world is a little fucked up. Alak actually showed he is a Tarr this episode. In a lot of ways Alak is the least fucked up of all our characters and has the solidest moral compass. Which is why I hope he can work things out with Stahma, For all her faults she actually a good parent and probably the main reason Alak is as solid as he is. Lord knows Datak was probably no help in that department
