  1. Ah, Rinaldo, I should have known that you'd come through with the answer. Thank you! That's even more perfect than how I had imagined it.
  2. I rewatched the episode recently. I love the way Sue Ann closes the oven door with a decidedly unladylike move of her leg while holding the soufflé. I wonder if that was in the script or added by Betty White during rehearsals.
  3. Mary was supposed to have known Phyllis before she moved to Minneapolis. Was their connection ever explained? As much as I liked Rhoda, it was a bit odd to me that she went from outright hostility toward Mary for "stealing" the apartment from her in the pilot to her bestie by the 2nd episode, based on little more than being two single women of a certain age. I'm glad the writers ditched those "desperate single gals" storylines pretty quickly. Episodes 2 and 4 were, IMO, downright embarrassing both then and now.
  4. No kidding. In a post-Madoff world, no one with half a brain does what Diane and the other Rindell clients are portrayed as doing.
  5. It felt like one of those "here's something a cast member can do so let's cram in it somewhere" pieces.
  6. Dan Castellaneta was perfect in that role -- soooooo annoying! As I recall, what cheesed Debra off more than anything was Brian's insistence that she had to bring snacks again the next time, because her pretzels and whatever didn't count. That was nonsense, and I'm glad she stood her ground, even if Raymond couldn't.
  7. I'm not a huge fan of jazz, but I can appreciate artistry and passion, so that did not diminish my enjoyment of the film.
  8. The NT Times review here includes a video about the making of the swimming lesson scene. So lovely. I saw this film yesterday and it is still haunting me. There is so much going on inside of people that we're never aware of.
  9. I wish I'd gone to bed as planned and watched it on DVR this morning. It was not worth staying up for on a day that started at 5 am for me. Other than the opener, too many skits felt like good ideas that weren't fleshed out enough. Elizabeth Warren is a case in point -- KM captured her essence, but the writing went nowhere. The People's Court had some excellent moments, but Putin's appearance deflated it for me. It's an easy go-to that lacks bite from repetition, IMO. I'm waiting for someone to explain the boot camp to me, as I didn't laugh once during that. I'm glad Alec embraces the fact that he's almost unrecognizable compared to his truly gorgeous younger days. Women who have "let themselves go" to much lesser degrees take a lot more shit than he ever will.
  10. This is photo-shopped, not Rosie in actual make-up, right?
  11. Spicer's latest rant, shouting "That's the silliest thing I've ever heard" to a reporter who had a completely reasonable question, is tailor-made for Melissa.
  12. He was a media whore, hitching his teeny-tiny hands to some of the biggest stars of their time.
  13. Monte Markham was all over my TV in the 1970s, and I loved him! I just rewatched the S1 MTM episode where he was a married globe-trotting journalist back to visit WJM who put the moves on Mary. My gosh, he was hot!
  14. Haven't seen it yet, but I'm wondering, if Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman have supporting roles in this movie, who are the leads?
  15. Just did a Google search on Ms. Fabray but could not find anything about her health. Until your post, I hadn't realized that she was still living -- and that, at 96, she was only 16 years older than her TV daughter, Mary Tyler Moore.
  16. What a bizarre -- and misleading -- movie title. Until I saw clips on the SAG broadcast, I wondered how Viggo Mortensen had snagged SAG and Oscar nominations for a superhero action movie.
  17. Saw it onstage in Boston in 2009, and yes, Troy was a difficult character to like then as well. In that production, Gabe was played by Bill Nunn (who was in the SAG In Memoriam segment on Sunday). I thought Denzel did a pretty fine job translating it to film. It's an actor's showcase, and the performances were excellent.
  18. Did MeTV actually do this? The episodes never showed up in my DVR's Comcast listings. I thought I was recording two MTM episodes early this morning, but despite the Comcast description, MeTV actually aired Car 54, Where Are You? instead. Yeesh. Fortunately, most MTM episodes appear to be available (with limited commercials) on youtube.
  19. I saw Fences yesterday. It's very much an actors' showcase and both Viola and Denzel nailed their roles, as did Mykelti Williamson as (in my opinion) the most sympathetic character in the movie. By coincidence, Bill Nunn (who was remembered in the In Memoriam segment) played Gabriel in the stage production I saw about 9 years ago. He was terrific, too.
  20. Nice clip of Doris Roberts as Marie in the SAG In Memoriam segment tonight. I had forgotten that she passed away last year.
  21. Used to love watching Mannix on Saturday nights. It was the only night I was allowed to watch a 9 pm (Central time) drama, 'cause no school the next day!
