  1. That is awesome! Maybe one or both of them is headed for a life in a natural science discipline. You should get them some illustrated insect books from the library or at least take them to an appropriate website after they come inside and clean up. The best way to learn about stuff is (a) because you are actually interested and (b) right now. My kid had an ant farm for a little (very little) while for some school project; I had to keep a white rat (I named Pumpernickel) for several months for some school science thing. Encourage inquisitive young brains by doing: it works! Go mom!
  2. Some one may have given you more useful info by now, PRgal, but my mom went through eight weeks of radiation for a tumor in one lung (that they could not remove surgically) and her side effects (at age 78!) were fatigue and a very sore throat. This was over 15 years ago so I understand the technology has advanced tremendously and the "beam" or whatever is much more accurately targeted on the tumor. I am still dealing with cancer (in my case, breast cancer - its been surgically removed but I'm doing infusions due to the kind of cancer...) and radiation was considered unnecessary (I assume because if they are going to cut your whole breast off, why bother to shrink the tumor first?). Hope that was not TMI! 😸
  3. Well, I for one, am very glad to see some Guy Ritchie crazy toons on my little screen. This was big fun, at least the first ep was, and I have just subscribed to Netflix for the sole purpose of seeing more.
  4. I'm sure I have recommended this previously, but try Siggi's Icelandic yoghurt (I only eat the real milk, full fat kind) - it has significantly less sugar (and therefore less carbs) than most yoghurts including the "light" varieties. I prefer the vanilla, the mixed berry and when I can find it, the strawberry/rhubarb. Siggi's does make a vegan option as well for those of you that flow that way...😸
  5. Sing! We are top of the league, top of the league, top of the league!! Come on you Gunners! (the Manshitty keeper also is now suspended due to too many fouls plus he got a knock, so the stars are aligning!)
  6. YouTube vlogs seem to be the last refuge of those of us who want unadulterated snark and don't get offended easily, if at all (cancer took away my last "offended" molecule - now, I laugh at most everything that doesn't involve hurting children and/or animals). I was a devotee of the forum scanning all things Royal and really miss it. Now I'm here to rag on TFGH and chat with you all, and if that goes away i will be sorry, but not surprised.
  7. I just re-watched all of Inspector Morse which was sublime... with BritBox I have an infinity of programs if I'm inclined towards TV (its obvious what I like: mysteries, travel, gardens, British movies...) but since I've been "retired" (in theory - I'm now working about 25 hours a week between my fixed volunteer hours and my two paid consulting jobs), I've been reading like crazy - so many great writers out there since I had time to read (like 25 years or more) properly. I love all the Scandinavian, British and other international mystery fiction that has been waiting for me...yum. Right now I'm slamming through the Ruth Galloway (archeologist! sleuth! set in Norfolk! check!) series (author: Elly Griffiths) and they are great!
  8. Good vibes from this quarter too and a suggestion: Go outside! Look up!! Walk a bit. Breathe deeply of the fresh air. Walk a bit more. Find some grass and sit on it - if the weather permits, take your shoes and socks off and get your toes in the grass. Bend over and look at the amazing little universe contained in a square foot of grass and dirt. You are part of an ongoing creation and it is all good. 😺 Pet peeve: Forgetting that "this too shall pass". Because it does...

    The NBA

Warriors soundly defeat Lakers...without LeBron, its true but then I'm sure he was watching from his cryogenic chamber and hopefully not crying too much 😸
  10. You won't interview well for a position that you really, really don't want (but are just applying for because you think you need the job...). On the other hand, there are an awful lot of people with degrees in marketing out of work right now - its one of the more disposable positions in any firm that is not growing. In my experience people that are successful in marketing have extremely outgoing and creative personalities and "fall into" marketing as a career because of that. You might want to circle back around to assessing your actual strengths as a person (not from a job point of view, but what you have proved yourself best at in life) and then look for a job that reflects those, rather than the other way around. Just a suggestion...
  11. I was taken to lunch on Tuesday (yes, there is such a thing as a free lunch...😸 ) and went to a marvelous restaurant called "Taste" that completely lived up to its name. The idea is that you get several small things and taste lots of new flavors - so they have about 35 different kind of small (but not tiny) burgers, including hamburger, chicken, lamb, salmon and vegetarian, plus about 12 different salads and 6 different soups on any day. I had a lamb burger (with spicy garlic aoili, arugula, tomato), and what they call a "dirty chicken", which is BBQ chicken breast with a really good BBQ sauce and onions, tomato and greens, plus a salad of arugula, candied walnuts and other greens with balsamic viniagrette dressing - I thought this might be too much food for me, but I scarfed it all down happily. Now I want to go back and try the salmon (there were three different salmon burgers to try!) and a buncha other stuff. Not cheap, but really wonderful.
  12. I did not realize how much I had missed this show until I was able to see S2/Ep1 last evening! Very sorry about Cricket but she went out doing what she chose and did so well...and no, I don't see this as adding to Will's angst quotient because he already has plenty of motivation (the right kind: a thirst for truth and justice). The cast is all so good. Beyond happy this got renewed.
  13. I'm not on reddit, Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn. Not missing anything! Try it, you might like it! (pet peeve: the world telling the world you gotta be on line 24/7. No, you don't!)
  14. I know this is in the wrong forum but I really wanted to respond to Cloud9Shopper and I apologize in advance for those who are not religious: Dear friend (Cloud9Shopper) - you have mentioned singing in your church choir so I know you attend church. Have you forgotten that you are a beloved child of God and nothing about what you do for work or your job title makes you any less loved and cherished and essential??? Perhaps Lent is an excellent time to refocus on your absolutely unique self, created to be here as no one can replace you ever. You are called to love and be loved - of course you want to support yourself and have the respect of your family and friends but nothing other than the quality and quantity of your love is going to matter in the end. Being rejected as a job applicant is naturally painful; being rejected from entering everlasting life is more than painful, eh? You are going to have to find a new way of life that includes reaching out to those less fortunate than you and being truly grateful for all that you are and have been given; that perspective, once gained, will not only give you an attitude that may serve you well in your job hunt but also put your career in proper perspective. Mental health experts say that gratitude is the first sign of mental health - and as I deal with homeless, lonely and abandoned people at the local food pantry I am reminded how blessed I am to have sufficient daily food, shelter and (currently) reasonably good health - can't you say the same? With a big hug, I wish you well!
  15. For whatever reason, every time I have been in a situation of sharing a room with someone not of my choosing, that person winds up either a very loud snorer or a teeth grinder. I have spent many nights on the bathroom floor in exile from a comfy bed in order to sleep (I have never found earplugs that were both comfortable and effective and I've tried a hundred different brands). So whatever it costs, I always, always opt for a room by myself for actual sleeping in...and getting a proper night's rest makes all the difference both during the trip and afterwards (as sleep deprivation generally leads to me getting a viral infection and regretting ever having gone anywhere).
  16. Having been on a 17 day cruise (my first!) this last summer, I can tell you two things: (1) try out any anti-motion sickness meds well before you even book the cruise as everyone reacts differently to different meds and some side effects could be worse than the thing itself. On my ship a lot of people were taking Dramamine and it did not work for everyone, and other people mentioned to me that they got headaches or digestive issues. (2) the cruise that I was on (L.A. to Hawaii and back) was in the middle of summer and nonetheless the first night out was extremely rough with high seas and wind. The ship (a huge Princess vessel) was definitely lurching to and fro *a lot* (like hard to keep your footing a lot), despite the stabilizers, and this went on all night and into the first day at sea, finally calming down by the middle of the first day or so. I do not get seasick at all (and thank God, neither did my son) but it was a bit alarming as I did not realize in advance such a big ship could lurch that much and also did not know the stabilizers make a lot of noise (all night long) from underneath, so not much sleep that first night! Nonetheless I would go again in a heartbeat if someone wants to pay my way and do plan to cruise again but its worth pointing out to the cruise fanatics that the experience may be unexpectedly fraught despite their best intentions and it is a rather expensive way to have a terrible time if you are prone to motion sickness.
  17. Another satisfying win for the Arsenal (coupled with a defeat for the bar stewards down the road and a draw for MC)...still second but looking fierce!
  18. Since Valentine's Day is already just a totally commercial enterprise, having nothing at all to do with the martyred saint whose name was co-opted for this purpose, why not just celebrate "love for everyone" or don't celebrate at all (which is what my husband and I did, having agreed that expressing love is for every and all days, not some card prompted assigned arbitrary date on the calendar - we also abjured Mothers and Fathers Days on the same principle within our little family but sent cards out to the parents as they were wholly under the spell of Hallmark, etc.).
  19. Congrats on not waiting, and I hope this very much after the fact post finds you still keeping your new way of life going and successful! I have found that it takes a while to really develop new habits in terms of taking care of oneself properly, even when we know it is what we should be doing. However, once you are doing it without having to think (you no longer even reach for that french fry or take the stairs automatically rather than the elevator), you have won!! And it really is a big deal - better than a lottery win, being hard earned and priceless!
  20. You can have both! So go apply for unemployment ASAP as it takes a week (or more likely three) to "kick in" and start getting you the money you are due (really - its not welfare as you paid into the unemployment system all the time you were working so they owe you!). Good luck on finding a new job!

    The NBA

I would hope KD might eventually realize that his career choices have not endeared him to any city/team in the way other NBA stars might claim. As a Warriors fan, I am grateful for his contribution for the championships in which he participated but I will never consider him a "Warrior for Life" in the way that many departed players are (like Iguodala, for example).
  22. I think there is a difference between criticizing (even obliquely) another woman's body and criticizing their choice of clothes, particularly when said choice of clothes is so often nowadays completely inappropriate for the venue/occasion. When I see people (of either gender) attending Sunday Mass in shorts and flip flops I definitely feel a tad outraged: Sure, its great they made the effort to come but really...show some respect for where you are. And I will always think that leggings of every color (unless accompanied by a tunic/long shirt that covers the butt and a bit beyond) are great for the gym or yoga studio and totally inappropriate everywhere else. No matter how splendid your body we don't need to see quite that much of it, IMO.
  23. Apparently an unpopular opinion but I still can't stand the Trina recast actor's work - her grief over Spencer's "death" is not even vaguely convincing and it seems completely out of character for her to want to forgo college etc. - the OG Trina would have thrown herself into the Sorbonne experience as a tribute to all that Spencer wanted for her and that she worked so hard to achieve. So its a combination of terrible writing and bad acting, in my estimation. Of course I also never bought that Spencer would be besotted with Trina in the first place - his pairing with Esme (without all the backplot) made the most sense as a couple of louche Eurobrats living the high life off money they never earned.

Hey, Cojo was a very nice and promising scrub, so I'm not sure what this was all about for the Warriors (perhaps some deep behind the scenes plotting for the future stuff us fans won't know anything about). Since Wiggins seems to be recovering his mojo, I guess we need less Cojo 😸
