Maybe Asuelo is pronouncing it in “American” and Kalani is using the Samoan pronunciation...In the Samoan language, each vowel has a long and short value, and the name for the country has a line over the first “a” indicating it should be given more emphasis/longer sound than a regular “a” Found on the interwebs: The Alphabet The Samoan alphabet looks like this: A E I O U F G L M N P S T V H K R Each of the vowels has a short and a long sound. The long sound is marked by a line above the vowel, called a macron (or fa'amamafa). A a»say 'cup' Ā ā»say 'car' E e»say 'leg' Ē ē»say 'rain' I i»say 'pick' Ī ī»say 'bee' O o»say 'hot' Ō ō»say 'dough' U u»say 'put' Ū ū»say 'sue' Here’s an audio guide for the Samoan language pronunciation https://forvo.com/word/sāmoa/ Of Course there is a “correct” way to pronounce place names in every language - In Italian Paris is actually Parigi, (I long ago helped several clueless backpackers who were about to miss their train to Paris) and in French, London is Londres, and of course very few (pretentious?) people speaking English here would say “Paree” for Paris... Sorry for the lesson, but I love learning about languages!

Maybe his major was posing in photographs, not taking them? -
Jer, no need to worry if you’ve “lost anything from this year - Embers (sic) first year.” Every bloomin’ minute is on social media! Just ask that professional photographer who follows you around 24/7 for some reprints. Jeesh.

I love this so much! I understood from context what you meant, but had to look up the translation out of curiosity - I can’t imagine a better word to describe the whole LulaNo oeuvre! Schmatta: A rag (from Yiddish שמאַטע shmate, from Polish szmata) (OED); also means junk or low-quality merchandise: "Don't buy from Silverman; all he sells is schmatta."

Social Media: What's Up With Her?
Shieldmaiden replied to ClareWalks's topic in My Big Fat Fabulous Life
Wow, that psychic really has some skills - I’m betting they’re both covered in cat hair all the time but the psychic amazingly “reads” that he’s around animals all the time and that she’s a cat person... -

I can confirm this - I also taught high school French and Spanish...I had to start with English grammar much of the time because teaching someone how to conjugate a verb or make adjectives agree was next to impossible as so many students didn’t know these basic parts of speech. I ended up using good old School House Rock songs sometimes! (I know I should add on topic commentary, but I’m on the west coast following you all and waiting anxiously for air time!) -
It didn’t work for the Capulets and Montagues either...

At our local rock, sand and bark place you drive your pickup on a scale before and after loading...maybe that could work for her? ? -
I second that emotion...and wanted to add - my first reaction to the pronunciation question was that the poster actually knew enough Spanish (Mexican/Neutral, whatever) to know that Ricky was saying the “ll” differently...If the poster had wondered why you don’t say “Kay-say-dilla” at Taco Time, I would have maybe smirked a little...

S07.E10: From Stranger to Sweetheart
Shieldmaiden replied to humbleopinion's topic in Married At First Sight
THIS TIMES 1000! Rule of thumb: remove the other person’s name/pronoun, and if it sounds wrong, it is: “Henry is coming with Bobby and I” would end up being “Henry is coming with I” which sounds wrong; should be “Henry is coming with Bobby and ME”. PET PEEVE! -
S07.E09: Fantasies and Firsts
Shieldmaiden replied to humbleopinion's topic in Married At First Sight
I’m shallow and judgmental, but Amber’s “fantasy” date consisted of a ride in a carriage from My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding and a restaurant with a lovely view of a parking lot (yes, I noticed the skyline in the background). I’ll pass. -

It’s a group of people from this forum who comment live on “My 600 Pound Life”...very fun to follow - I don’t even watch the show sometimes, I just read the thread.

I’m sorry (not sorry) but that “kimono” looks like a cross between a grandma’s tablecloth and a “hippie” costume you’d buy for Halloween...

I missed it...what about his underwear? If I remember right he had on white boxers with huge blue lobsters all over...

I felt a little guilty that I was thinking “white trash” when Angie and crew showed up on my tv, but wow...that performance on Maury (and just needing/wanting to be there to establish paternity)...my white trash detector is well calibrated ? -
But they did! Remember the dorky Boeing worker who lived with his gay lady roommates who brought over the woman from the Philippines? She was the one who complained at the airport about the flowers he chose, and on the way home in the car wanted to test the diamond he gave her because she thought it was fake - Daya? They live(?) in Lake Stevens north of me (I’m in Everett). I think they’re still married!

Thanks for the sympathy! But I feel like I get all the snark and none of the agony of watching it live here in Seattle by reading along with you all...I just fast forward through it all to catch visuals you all highlight.

I think the language she’s learning (and that Andrrrrrre speaks) is Romanian, which they call Moldovan in Moldova, but is more or less identical to Romanian.

Can you turn on the Closed Captioning option? I use it here all the time for all of my beloved British series (especially those set in the north of England or Scotland)! Not only do I not miss any dialogue I have learned lots of great Britishisms...I can’t believe you send us such quality tv and this is what you get in return from us - Sorry!! -

What I noticed was scarring on her upper arm - a tattoo removal? It looks like a cartoon character or something...
