  1. I just spoke to my BFF about this show and we both confessed to having crushes on Ray, despite thinking he should have a little more of a NY accent. She and I are natives, hence the nitpick. She works at NYU which is close to where some of the scenes are filmed in this. Both of us are suspending disbelief at how fast they whip around the city. They'd need a helicopter to accomplish some of those trips so quickly. Even the subway isn't that fast.
  2. I agree. Today pet medical bills can be very expensive and people are more willing to want to do whatever it takes to keep their pet alive so pet insurance is a must for anyone with a dog or cat. What surprised me is that Bobby seemed to have no problem pushing back on the amount he was comfortable spending on Henry but when it comes to other things like Danielle's personal grooming he caves like a total wuss.
  3. I know! That no one cares enough to demand an answer or investigation. I would think the stories coming out about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance would be suspicious enough to warrant someone somewhere looking into it more closely. If a guy has a fight or is on the outs with his wife then she disappears and there are rumors of his temper swirling around, he automatically becomes a suspect of something and the authorities watch and tail him. This guy gets away with it because of his power and money, that's what I think. If one day I just disappeared you'd better believe the cops would be grilling my husband six ways silly and put him on a person of interest list.
  4. Not to defend atheists because I'm not one, but the usual response to this is that the burden of proof falls on the side that believes in the existence of an entity whose existence cannot be proven. There is no need to prove that something unprovable does not exist. It's not only impossible, but it's because to them only the provable exists. That's the argument I've heard. And the billions that believe are said to somehow be engaging in a collective delusion based on emotional needs and with regard to miracles are ascribing causes to events where there is no necessary cause and effect relationship, no matter how it may look like there is to someone that wants it to be true. But then again, I'm with you on this.
  5. Jephte looks to me like an immature guy that didn't realize he was playing in the big leagues with fire and got burned. He always has this deer-in-the-headlights look, like his head is spinning that he got himself in this deep with a woman he didn't really love or find all that attractive. Now he doesn't know what to do because if he leaves her with a baby the entire world will think he's a creep. So he stays and pays lip service to the camera about wanting to be the best husband and father (yeah, right, sure). And I don't think Shawniece was not aware that she was entrapping him by having a baby. She took a big risk because she thought he was her best chance, but she will find out that it wasn't worth that risk. I don't for one minute believe that Danielle didn't allow herself to get pregnant because she wanted to "seal the deal" with Bobby in that she knew she could virtually get away with anything with him and have everything her way if she did. I don't think it's any accident that she has started to come off more like a bitch with him since the pregnancy. She knew at that point that she could let "the real her" out and he would be even more unable to rebel against it. Another case of entrapment.
  6. Why isn't the FBI investigating? Is this not their business? I confess I really don't know, but it seems odd to me that we have investigations for everything under the sun but not this, especially after all these people have come forward.
  7. I agree with you but I don't think this is anything that new with Katie. Maybe it's just getting tiresome now as they keep repeating it over and over again. I'm also getting tired of this "they hate her/they love her/they hate her" stuff. I think it's really getting juvenile. A little of that stuff goes a long way. I've said before that I think it sets a mean-spirited tone for the show and I don't think TV shows should be tacitly legitimizing any more mean spiritedness among women than we already have.
  8. I could never use Ponds due to sensitive skin, but I did use another cult classic, Albolene for a long time until I discovered all the newer serums and creams out there to rejuvenate, hydrate, prevent and minimize wrinkles. I use many types and brands and rotate them to get the benefits from all of them. I have used Olay Regenerist with good results and love some of the stuff from Murad too, but I also use Aveeno and Neutrogena products as well as Boots No. 7.
  9. Is any of this ever investigated by the authorities? I admit I don't know much about that with regard to Scientology. There have been more than enough criminal charges made on this show to raise suspicion and put them under a spotlight. Shelly's disappearance is just shocking. Has no one from outside of Scientology tried to find her or at least put pressure on Miscavage to tell what happened to her? We have shows all about trying to find Hitler, for chrissakes, but with this it's crickets. I guess everyone is afraid, but why is this bogus organization allowed to have that much unchecked power?
  10. OooooOOOooooohh, I guess I'm supposed to be impressed, LOL. ;-) She's so wishy-washy it's hard to see her as enthusiastic enough to be a coach of anything.
  11. OK, I guess I'm going to get a reputation as a nitpicker, but in this episode Wendi said the model in the white suit looked like "The Charlie Girl". Unless they've moved the show ahead a year, she was a year too early to know about that because the perfume wasn't released until 1973. I loved some of the references, though. Pamela Sue Martin, Binaca, LOL. And the fashion show, too!
  12. She has clients? That's a new one on me. I only follow this board sporadically so if that's common knowledge, I apologize. So anyway, I get it. All this posting online is to show what a good health coach she supposedly is. She posts all these trendy "healthy" practices to attract clients. All she would have to do to become certified is take some $500 online program and pass a test. Today I guess that's all someone needs to call themselves an "expert".
  13. Skin creams really work. I'd be willing to bet Christine doesn't use them or if she does, not the right ones.
  14. I'm 14 years older and look 10 years younger and I smoked for years too. I never had kids, but worked in a high stress job. Plus I recently lost 40 lbs. with no increase in wrinkles. Sometimes it just comes down to genetics. As I get older it consistently amazes me how unfair the aging process is to some people. We all have our issues that way. For me it's my legs. Spider veins, thigh cellulite that's exercise resistant, edema, you name it. I'd probably be jealous of Christine's legs. But at least I can cover my legs. I'm no expert, but Christine's skin looks very dry. I was blessed with oily skin that doesn't tend to wrinkle.
  15. I had the same reaction. Some people can't use them and I'm one of them. I'm also one of those people that has to wear nose plugs if I go swimming. I could never master that and concluded it's my sinuses, not that I didn't know how to do it. I did everything right and still experienced sinus "burn" without the nose plugs. Something about my sinuses is out of the ordinary. I recently read online that I'm not alone and some people just can't with stuff like that. The best thing for me is either Flonase or Ayr, a simple nasal mist. Janelle seems to want to try everything she thinks all the cool people must be doing, and if she posts online that she's doing/eating all those things she can be one of the cool people too.
  16. That was some beautiful chicken!
  17. I agree. Didn't they show a school photo of the father in the beginning? They would have had to clear that with him to do that. It makes me wonder why they couldn't tell us more about him on the show, or even have the son meet him too. Also, my husband and I were confused as to how Chris found the son. Did we somehow miss that all important piece of information? What happened to the segment where they show the steps they took? All Chris said was that he made some phone calls and found him. It seems as though as the season wears on the shows are getting sloppier and omitting more of those details. But that's what makes this show interesting for some people. Otherwise, it doesn't make much sense. The more I think about it the more I think they edited some 2 hour shows down to an hour and didn't do a very good job of it. I felt the same about John's segment. Big details were left out and as a result the story didn't seem plausible. I really felt for John. That guy got shafted in just about every way. I can't imagine thinking you're Italian all your life and then finding out at 50 that you're not! Knowing how so many NYC Italian Americans have a very strong sense of cultural pride, that had to be a very big head spin for him.
  18. LOL, I remember that too. My mother used to say that all the guys looked like Jesus Christ. She'd see one and say to my father, "Look, Russell, we're saved!"
  19. Great catch, you're right - the clip on the TV in this episode referred to the Grand Jury, not the hearings.
  20. Yeah No

    S05.E10: Cold War

I think Sam's win was the result of shrewd strategy on his part, not just luck. If he intended to increase his chances of winning by gaining weight, I think that was a smart thing to do. Our society tends to see being "fat" as a liability, but in extreme survival situations, it's actually an advantage. I guess you'd have to ask the laws of nature as to why that's the case. But I also don't agree that he "did almost nothing". This season he actually did a fair number of projects.
  21. Wow, did he? That's something I regrettably missed but thanks!
  22. I think you meant to write that seatbelts started to be required in cars in 1968. I was a big car enthusiast as a kid so I remember that development well. I was the only girl anywhere that owned Hot Wheels (which came on the market in 1968) and did slot car racing. 1968 was also the first year cars started having "side lights", I suppose as a safety feature so people can see your car at night from the side. With regard to seatbelts, even though they were required in new cars, most states didn't start making laws about wearing them until the 1980s. Because of that a lot of older cars had to be retrofitted to have seatbelts depending on their state's laws. Some states don't require vintage cars to have seatbelts. So to make a long story short, yes, the narrator is incorrect.
  23. I agree. I hope Miles' father can help him look at the God account in a new way. Maybe he'll become less certain that it's not God behind it, as in becoming more agnostic than atheist, like his DJ girlfriend. I still hope Miles and Cara are end game, but I'm not ready to see them together so I'm OK with them pursuing other interests for now. I wonder how they'll eventually get together. I'm sure the God account will have something to do with it. I read that the network has ordered a full season so it's nice to know that the ratings have been good enough for that! Also, I loved the detective being a part of this episode and glad they've had him reappear a few times. I hope he continues to be a part of this show because he's great. Another tear jerker episode at the end, too! I just had a thought - maybe Miles got his name from his father's love of jazz, as in Miles Davis.
  24. I was 40 years old at the time of this scandal so I was well aware of it, but I learned more in depth things from this documentary that I didn't know before, like the incredible extent to which Monica pursued Bill, and the way he encouraged her infatuation by sending her gifts, etc. I have to say I felt more sorry for her anyway after watching this, mostly because I realized how sheltered and naive she was, especially to trust Linda Tripp with all that personal and damaging info. I grew up on the streets of NYC and even at a much younger age I would have been able to take one look at Tripp and know I could never trust her with anything that personal and potentially damaging to myself and the other party. How reckless of Bill to fall into something so risky with someone he really didn't know he could trust to be discreet. I don't condone the relationship at all, but neither of them was using any common sense whatsoever. The stakes were so high that even if it was an irresistible flirtation one would think Bill could control himself even if she couldn't. He was the elder, more mature, supposedly more responsible person in the relationship, so I still put more of the responsibility on him. People flirt with famous and powerful married people all the time but it's the flirtee's responsibility to know how to handle them, especially when that flirtee is the POTUS. My personal instinct is that Bill had ceased connecting sexually that much with Hillary and they stayed together mostly for other reasons, which left him more vulnerable to the advances of a cute young intern. But still, no matter, he should have known better. In my opinion, this is a very sad story. At the time I also never got over how people just didn't care about this scandal and how Bill was so "teflon" that nothing stuck to him. Even then this made no sense to me. Plus I hated the way people bashed Monica and treated her like a slut or whatever. She definitely didn't deserve what she got. If this happened today this would probably have had a very different outcome.
  25. I always wear my blue blocker reading glasses at the computer.
