I think his looks are below average and possibly his cooking, too. I agree with you that he's exaggerated how many women he's been with. He is so repulsive to me that my stomach feels queasy watching him. I rarely have a reaction so strong.

I find that unusual in a large company. I've temped at many companies going back decades and I haven't seen it since the early 2000s. It's not that difficult to prevent. Laptops can even be prevented from downloading offline. But even if that were possible today, this is supposed to occur in the 24th century.

I felt the same way. I liked Jose and I'm really sad he did himself in like that. I could tell Ramsay liked him too. He's better than to be on this show. Although I would like to see him again, hopefully in a better situation.

Forgive me, I don't have the great memory of some on the board, but isn't this or something close similar to a TNG in an episode where Worf's personal conflicts with the Klingons almost get the ship annihilated but then he goes down to the planet and saves the day and the ship? Or something like that? And then Picard gives him a similar speech? Apologies if I'm way off base.

Damn, you beat me to it, I was going to post the same thing! That means it must happen, right? LOL I was thinking that upon reaching adulthood Topas would say he identifies as female and wants to be reassigned as one. I guess I'm late to the party here because I thought that it was not believable that any old software could be uploaded to the ship's computer, and someone beat me to that too. But it's not just a matter of not running a virus scan. Anyone that works in the corporate world knows that they can't just upload a program to their PC without admin. rights to do so. Unless it's assumed that Bortas had admin. rights and entered his security password. But that wasn't a given so I'm assuming it wasn't the case. Also, unless I missed it, was there a reason given that only 30 people could be taken aboard that shuttle per trip? I'm assuming it was because of a weight limit that the ship could tolerate, because they certainly didn't look jammed in like sardines. I would think they would have crammed them in cheek by jowl in order to get as many on board as possible. But not specifying why the limit was 30 is bugging me. It's the omission of little details like these that annoys me about this show. I did crack up with all the porno. humor, though. I agree with someone above that this show often doesn't get the balance between the parody/satire and drama just right, but I actually thought this episode did a pretty good job of it if one is not bothered by the gratuitous indulgence in porno. for humor's sake.

S08.E01: First Comes Marriage, Then Comes Love
Yeah No replied to humbleopinion's topic in Married At First Sight
I thought that too. I also thought I could see that thought on Stephanie's face during the wedding. Like she was thinking, "He couldn't possibly be like that all the time, could he?" I somehow think that even dialed down a few notches he'd still be insufferable, but I guess we'll find out. It may just be me, but when Stephanie had her gown malfunction minutes before the wedding, it looked to me like she was seeing it as an omen in a way that she was making a big mistake. I hope for her sake she's not, but her odds aren't good. -
Forgive me, I am 60 years old and perhaps that makes me not see everything through what I think is the narrow lens of recently popular concepts. Therefore I don't think every person that drives by an old flame's house ONCE is a stalker or is even necessarily engaging in "stalkerish" behavior, or that people that react with "Oh come on" are necessarily being unnecessarily dismissive. But I think it's everyone's right to disagree with me even if I think they are wrong. That's what having an opinion is all about, thinking that your way of thinking is right and someone who disagrees with you is wrong. There's nothing wrong with thinking other people are wrong as long as you give them the right to disagree with you and respect their opinion even if you think it's wrong. In my opinion, of course. :)

I hope Raj and Anu cancel the wedding plans and only reschedule them after they date and fall in love, preferably before the series ends, of course.

I'm not dismissing anyone's concerns, but I am stating my opinion that it is off the mark to read too much into this series, whether it be taking seriously what I feel is intended as pure comedy or reading racism into plot situations. I don't watch every show looking for social injustices that may or may not be there. Sometimes I think a cigar is just a cigar, not a political statement. I have sometimes seen a political statement depending on the treatment of a situation, but not this time. I'll leave it at that. Feel free to disagree.

Nini clearly sucked at FOH, but I call producer sabotage on the ridiculously inexperienced wait staff on all the teams. Don't tell me they couldn't get better people even in Kentucky. I've had servers at the Olive Garden with tons more knowledge and experience. I do think Nini would have sucked anyway, though, and she deserved to go home. Color me surprised that Brian not only came back from his night of no sleep to run FOH well but also make the winning dish. After his "War and Peace" sized server manual I thought he was putting too much of his energy into something that was just overkill. He may rub me the wrong way but I have to give him credit for his win. I agree with the above that the design team for this season's restaurants was inferior to previous seasons. Those plates on the wall in "Third Coast" reminded me of an early season of the old HGTV series "Design Star" when Cynthia Rowley went off on a contestant for her unattractive wall plate clusters. Just ugh. I also thought the judges were pretty lenient in their critiques of the losing teams. They spent more time focusing on positives than usual in restaurant war judgings, which can often be brutal. The judges were so polite and cheerful even when being critical that it left me a little perplexed. Maybe they were generally more happy with their overall performance than in the past? Hard to tell. I'm just happy that David survived to cook another day.

I think this show shifts between satire and drama when necessary, only it's up to the audience to figure out when which is intended. I'm seeing that this leaves a segment of the audience confused and/or unsatisfied. Some people just like both things to be clear or not exist together in one show. If this show were done like a dramedy it might be easier to accept the two together, but because this show contains satire it's harder to tell where the show is coming from at any given time. When is it serious and when is it poking fun? I think I know the answer to that question, but obviously not everyone agrees.

Yeah, the worldbuilding of that didn't really jibe for me. I know, I know what they were going for, but Pon Farr is once every seven years, and the actual ceremony from Amok Time only takes place once per couple. Think of how many birthdays there are among your family and close friends. Can you picture schlepping out to a sacred cliffside ceremony that often? Is Bortus also going to request that they divert when it's his husband's turn? Are there any other Moclans on the Orville besides his family? I think the show is going for the absurd/comedic angle with this. There's nothing serious about it at all. McFarland is satirizing and mocking another TV show again big time, which is one reason I'm not troubling myself to figure out the rationale for it in any serious way. The fact that he would take the entire ship home for something as ridiculous as a peeing ceremony is only done to make it even more absurd and funny, not because anyone would actually DO that in any kind of real life or because it's to be taken seriously like any of the other similar plot lines in other show franchises. Thanks for using the word "jibe" correctly in a sentence, BTW. These days that's all too rare.

I didn't even notice her breasts. I couldn't get past her huge schnazole, which Luke also inherited. Yes, I know I'm shallow. -

Yes. Mr. Yeah No was a wedding photographer for 20 years and when he saw that he said that's what you get when you're cheap and don't pay for a good photographer. Plus when did it become the thing for wedding photographers to dress down that much? I think the show got cheap and consolidated the bachelor/bachelorette parties in order to save money since they are adding another couple this season, but assuming that everyone would just be OK with the strippers was not cool. I'm still wondering if that isn't the reason the producers decided on a 4th couple this time - because it's inevitable that one of them will want to back out early so they will still have 3 couples left to focus on after they go. Although I'm sure they have contracts that prevent contestants from suing the show on that basis. -

I agree, plus she has enough of a "good time" attitude that she's willing to see this as yet another adventure and just go along with it wherever it leads, even if she knows deep down it won't last. There was already a little tongue action in their kissing so I'm sure they're headed for sex. At this point, though, she is already worried about not being able to put up with his insufferable personality, which is not a good sign for it being any more than yet another episode of serial monogamy in her life. That's not what she ultimately wanted, but if the sex is good, she'll be OK with that for a while. Kind of like Amber with Dave last season. Although in this case it might be Stephanie that is in the Dave position. But seriously, you mean to tell me that despite all of Dr. Pepper's degrees from Yale (which she boasts about as evidence of her so-called ability to pick matches), that she couldn't see that AJ was a total pain in the ass from a mile away? A guy with a personality that big couldn't possibly hide it that well. I totally agree that this match had to be a producer pick as they were one of the couples the experts were arguing over. So they picked 3 grooms that were introverts and one that was a raging extrovert to the point of needing medication? Yeah, that's a producer pick, I'm sure. Poor Stephanie. -
I get it, but all those things were done to me when I was a kid by so-called "little shits" and their narcissistic parents, and it was condescending for sure, but I am sure it was most definitely not based on race even though I was ethnically different from the vast majority of my neighbors. In my case it was about the fact that my mother worked full time in the 1960s so the other mothers had the attitude that she must be a "poor mother". My grandmother looked after me but the other mothers and their kids didn't know her as she wasn't part of their little social group. My mother wasn't around to witness whatever happened and stick up for me, so I became the easy scapegoat for things that were not my fault. In this episode the parents' condescending tone could have equally been about her being a single parent and nothing to do with race at all. Or lies their son told them about the kid that made him look bad. But YMMV. I'd rather continue believing that that many centuries into the future there will be no such racial prejudice. It's one of the reasons I loved the other show so much.
-
Wow, I didn't see racism in their behavior at all. Then again I generally expect more from 24th or 25th century humans given what we have seen of them on TV in the past on one other TV show that shall remain nameless. But there was more to it than that too. I just saw them as typical of parents that cannot imagine their child doing any wrong. Like if they admit their child might have done something bad it would reflect poorly on them, and narcissistic people like that can't have that. Which is probably one reason why the kid has grown up to be a little shit, too. To me that's how their behavior rang, judging from what I've seen of it in my own past with friends' parents, etc.

Having 4 couples strikes me as insurance so that when one of the couples inevitably wants to throw in the towel and doesn't want to continue beating a dead horse, they still have 3 couples left and don't have to bribe them to stay. I was all with Jessica on wanting to eliminate them. Pastor Cal has no clue, as usual, not that she has much more of a clue. Then again, beardo is problematic, as is the 37 year old guy, who strikes me as too picky and skittish about commitment. At least they got rid of the obvious player with an abnormal mother attachment. I was yelling at the TV until that happened.

Was there no forum for season 1? I just started watching this and only saw threads starting in season 2 in the vault. I'm all confused since the reorg. Also, I don't like the idea that things might be discussed in a catch all topic that are spoilers for someone just starting a series. This is especially an issue in Netflix as people often catch on to series like this years after they were first aired. It will make people like me avoid the thread so as not to trip over any spoilers.

This was ridiculously hard to find, plus the name of the show that's currently airing is "Return to Amish", not "Breaking Amish", which was its predecessor. Can something be done about that? ETA: Thanks!

Jason Alexander was also in an episode of "Star Trek Voyager" 20 years ago. He's appeared in single episodes of a lot of TV series over the years.

I would think that a kid that can hack grades could have hacked tests too and have fooled his teachers into giving him better grades. If he did that he may not have been so easily found out. That explains for me why Kelly looks different, thanks. I knew there had to be some time between last season and this episode.
-
I spent the first 5 minutes laughing, so I generally liked this episode. It really looked like the show was teasing us at the end with Bortus, like any minute we were going to hear "thar she blows" or something like that. I can't imagine that this would have worked as the season 1 finale so I understand why they kept it for now. Although it did look to me like the actress that plays Kelly had a makeover or something since I saw her last. Her uniform is also fitting her more loosely, although I don't think she's lost any weight. I took a look at her in an episode from last season and her appearance is noticeably different. I can't put my finger on it but it looks like her hair and makeup have changed somewhat. Her hair is longer now too. It's really good to have the show back, cheesy jokes and all. It seems like we had to wait forever for this season.

Janelle Brown: Smarter Than Your Average Brown (Maybe)
Yeah No replied to Rhondinella's topic in Sister Wives
I thought exactly the same thing. It also sounds to me like she didn't really want to move and is trying to keep positive about everything, unsuccessfully. Instead of facing her real feelings about anything she just makes whiny, wistful posts about not being motivated to do tree trimming that come off like she's trying to make lemonade out of lemons and missing the mark. -
For Whitney that probably makes some sense as long as the bike could support her weight, but for anyone who's serious about biking there's no comparison between having your own bike and using a bike-share program. The bikes are usually heavy, have limited gearing and wide padded seats that are nasty as hell to the hips and knees. We have a similar program here and I just haul my own bike around because those are so terrible. If I have my car, I can take one of my bikes. Whitney's concerns on a bike are different - it has to be able to transport nearly 400 lbs to hold her - and that's why she's riding a Fat Bike. The bike she's on isn't specifically designed for fat people, they're built for muddy and snowy conditions, but the larger size of the bike and the way they're built mean they can handle more load on the wheels than a smaller bike. She'd have a hard time on a bike with thinner tires, not that she doesn't have a hard time on her own bike. Even with the custom built Fat bike I doubt she would be able to ride around DC with it. She can barely huff and puff herself down the 1/16th of a mile she forces herself to go on camera just to "prove" to us that she's actually riding, when we all know she's NOT.
