S04.E03: Something Wicked This Way Comes
RealityGal replied to yeswedo's topic in Project Runway All Stars
I assure you helen felt she is way above even having to consult the mirror for an opinion. Michelle needs to stop thinking about what pithy comments she is going to make in her TH and focus on designing something reasonable. Yes on Chris's attitude to the judges. There really was no need for all of that, it will never cost you anything to be gracious. I think he was frustrated by the time constraints and probably tired. He is probably the only designer I've seen really sitting in the workroom. I'm sure the show is enough to annoy a person in optimal health, but it has to be a disaster for someone who may not be in the best health, and who wasn't used to the 1 day challenges that are the new thing (even though this was a 2 day challenge). I get the feeling that the judges put him out of his misery. I may be the only one, but I sort of liked Fabio's. I think it might have been better if he almost made a mullet top, like a top that is short in the front (yes, sort of a dreaded crop top, high waisted pant situation) but the front would then become long and dramatic in the back, maybe with a strong shoulder. That way he could have the pants, but the drama of the couture. I would love to see Fashion Fund period, but they aren't even putting that shit on Amazon or ITunes, and I can't care enough to try any harder than that. Ovation needs to get their shit together! Someone once called her Helen of Cry, and I love that name :) Michelle is going for something this season. Maybe this is her idea of an image rehab, but its too over the top. Blood red....my goodness, yes! LMAO. I wonder if thats why she decided to blow off taping the show. I mean, the disrespect is at an all time high, no one even calls her "stunning" or "ethereal", she doesn't even get a "sorta pretty" She shouldn't have to put up with that! Well here is another gem from the Zanna Roberts Rossi collection "remember, this prize is really great so you should try to win" and "just make sure this looks good" I think someone just found Betsy Johnson in a bar and she got tricked into judging because someone told her they would give her all the gin and tonics she wanted. She read under the influence of something to me. -

First - Sonja's dress was brilliant. I would have chucked my computer if Samantha had won and I'm not entirely sure how she was in the top three. I can see how she beat Jay, because his was really ugly, but hers was not cute at all, that front read all sorts of Frumpalina to me, it looked saggy. Second - Good on Kate. I'm not a fan, but I'm glad to see that she was able to pull off something that wasn't pretty princess, but in no world was that going to best Sonja's dress. Third - some of the face offs were really good and some were just really bad. Chris v. Michelle was really bad. Michelle's looked like some form of the halter she kept trying to do in her season and some strange sort of winged things in the back. Chris was also bad, and for all his talk, I think he knew that. He basically implied that if he made bad decisions under a time crunch. Fourth - 2 day challenge! and pretty gowns! Thank you PRAS!!!! Fifth - ohh, Dimitri is getting a little of the bitch edit this time around. It's okay because he is super talented, and I really enjoyed his dress this challenge. Sadly, his was a clear win over Gunnar (and right now, i can't remember what his looked like. Sixth - come on, why won't anyone send Helen home. Her dress was the worst thing on the runway. It looked like she stapled a bathroom rug to a set of fancy curtains. Even Scarlett O'Hara would have come up with something better. What the fuck was she talking about how she could see it in Paris Fashion Week or something of the sort. Whatever. Ugh....Helen. I wonder if the producers know that I'm fully invested in seeing Helen get eliminated in the meanest way possible. Seventh - Alyssa....goodness, why that dress???? Why that top???? You are on a fashion show, you have been hosting that fashion show for at least two seasons, you should have a few phone numbers of people that can make you some maternity outfits. Work your rolodex girl! Eighth - guest judge. I agreed with most everything she said, but damn was she mouthy. Her comment about Dimitry's dress being "exactly what she wears" was laughable because 10 girls in the world have the body to pull off that dress, and she and I are not one of those 10. He barely looked excited when she said that, although if Heidi were to say it he would have probably offered to alter it for her measurements. Ninth - was Betsey Johnson drunk? I think she was. -
Social Media & Spoilery Speculation

But if I may, its sounds like you rose above it by your own achievements. Danielle is trying to rise above it by landing a man with money she doesn't have and could be spending on her daughters. Years ago, I realized that I wasn't the type of person that the person I wanted in my life would want to be with. Not for that reason alone, but with that in the very back of my mind I strove to become the type of woman that I wanted to be. I have and continue to put in a lot of work. I hope, at least for her daughters sake, that she works on becoming a best her, and then finds a man who is attracted to that, not someone she has to basically buy with money or a green card. -
I strive to be a cougar one day, but I can say that I would be so unattracted to a man asking me for gas money that I'm not sure the sex would ever be good. I'm not sure I would let him get that close.

S07.E01: Bye Bye & Bon Voyage

There are so many reasons why its a bad idea, and I think Peter must have balls the size of coconuts to even bring it up. First and foremost, he has shown that he doesn't really have great business sense, every part of his business seems shady. Second, he already lost a chunk of her money and she didn't have enough to give away. It might be different if she had Oprah money, then by all means, let your husband open and fail at multiple businesses, maybe the one that succeeds will be great. Third, her own ability to earn is not what it once was, I think Cynthia is beautiful, gorgeous in fact, but she doesn't seem to do commercials, so there is runway and advertisements, its a competitive field for beautiful women, even if they are looking to cast a mature black woman for an ad, there are actresses that want advertising work now too, but she needs to hold onto her money and put it into things she can control and she know can grow. Fourth, you know the second he can get to North Carolina he will be looking to get an apartment out there and get a mistress, Peter Thomas just has that vibe about him. Me too, I wish he would do a YouTube video because I look cute standing in stilettos but the minute I start to walk I look like a linebacker. -
I thought Gregory's comment was about how he basically would have saved Aaron from himself and was more directed at how Adam should have taken more control of the situation. As for Katie, I don't think anything she done has been daring. She made a chocolate cake with strawberry and sauce. Hugh called it boring. There is no grit in complaining in front of the judges, IMO. If the remarks stung, sting him right back and talk mad shit to him about his stupid scallop noodle. When he says "who cooks chocolate cake?" say "who the hell cooks a scallop noodle with a meatball?" I don't know that her boring chocolate cake really pounded anyone into the ground, and Tom, for his part, even while sending Aaron home did say that it was a great idea, just one that Aaron couldn't possibly execute. I think most of the judges, Tom included have a greater level of respect for someone who aims for the fences and fails over someone who simply wants to foul out and get to first base.

I wouldn't say that the judges can't know what a good dessert is, but I also know what a good dessert is. I would say that the judges can't give the same in depth analysis to a dessert as what they give to a savory dish. I suppose its a matter of MV, but the people I've worked with would avoid her like the plague, no one wants to be in a culture of trash talking and then have it brought up to the boss later when a feeling has been hurt. Most times in those industries you are expected to give it as good as you get it, and for that reason you don't need to cry foul to the boss...ever. And truly, even a lot of bosses I think don't like it and thats why the complainer will normally be assuaged, but almost never promoted. A boss generally wants you to deal with a personality conflict, figure it out and do your job, not come at them with some personality situation, that takes away from them doing their job. Not only that, she unnecessarily drew attention to herself for something other than her food. The easiest way to show that Aaron underestimated her? All it required was a simple raised eyebrow when the judges gave her the win. Or even trash talking once they got to the stew room, or in the car ride back. She hasn't been shown to do any of that when she is around Aaron, which is 95% of the time, which to me says she specifically wanted to wait until a judge was around to air her personality conflict with Aaron instead of putting on her big girl pants and telling him when they were together and without the presence of the judges. Someone said that she simply waited until it had the most impact. I agree, but I don't think it is a good impact, but Tom didn't seem to give a care about it, and now there is a small seed planted that she complains. If it comes up again, thats going to start to look like a pattern, even if she is right, and when its a pattern people start thinking the problem might be you. Its going to start to look like she can't handle things by herself and needs to complain to the judges when she feels like her feelings are hurt.

What prize do I win????
-
Seeing as how they are different, and most chefs aren't very into desserts, unless they specialize in this (or so it seems to me) then it puts the judges in Padma territory of judging, which is to say, its like me judging something. I know if something is simply too salty or dry, I think 80% of the country could tell you if a cake was too dry or if a dish was over the top salty. But the in-depth analysis that the judges do, beyond the simple, me and Padma level of judging is pretty much for the savory dishes. I think Katie does not want to be judged on that in-depth level if she can avoid it because she couldn't compete. I do think Tom may take the complaints of someone he likes seriously, but he likes people based mostly on their food and if he has any respect for their food. I don't think he has evidenced any big respect for Katie, and while he had to let Aaron go, I think he would have more respect for someone who aimed for the fences than someone who is whining at him and only did something safe. The thing with Katie was that Tom just let the whole thing fizzle, and the look he gave her, to me said, he could really care less. I think if Gregory had a personality conflict, or had some sort of complaint in front of the judges, I think Tom would have been a little more concerned. I don't think heebiejeebie was saying that she actually did hide behind the judges, but that it was that level of petty and childish. She was basically asking for the judges to punish Aaron for being mean to her, and talking smack about her cake. Something, she herself wouldn't do during the massive amounts of time she was around Aaron with the judges not being around. You're an adult, you don't need to beg someone to punish another adult because they are hurting your feelings, take it up with the person you have a problem with. She was attempting to tattle on Aaron, and I'm sure she is hurt that the judges comments didn't go further. I actually don't think adults behave like that at all, most people I've worked with know what to tell the boss and what not to tell the boss. And telling the boss about immaterial general or even specific trash talking would not be respected in any workplace I've been in (unless it rose to some level of illegal). For one, if I have a problem with someone, I can take care of it myself, I don't need someone else to step in and defend me. Second, I assume my boss hired me to work, not to regale him with personality conflict stories about how someone hurt my feelings by telling me my cake was lame. It's like having that one co-worker that you just avoid because you know that the second they may or may not perceive a hurt feeling they will be in HR complaining. Funny thing about those people, the person they are complaining about will generally get a talking to, but the complainer will almost never get promoted. You'll see the person that they were complaining about get promoted before you see them get moved anywhere. They are all adults, but they aren't all in the same position.

really? don't they need to be married for two years for him to get a green card?

I don't necessarily consider school a microcosm of an adult world, because its populated by children. As I saw it, Bruce was bold, smacked the kid, got an ass whipping and then was going to run away....it looked to me like he was going to insist that he wasn't going to go back to school. I think Alfred saw, and was right to see that these little jerks were never going to stop. So what are the alternatives? You allow Bruce to continue on being a daily victim because the bullies got the upper hand the first time and will never stop, and there are three or four against one or you allow Bruce to simply stay home and avoid all conflict. There was nothing fair in a fight with 3 or 4 on 1, so Alfred created a situation where it was a 1 on 1 fight. And suddenly the bully who had some big talk when he had 3 other kids to back him up was quiet, and after Alfred's little talk it will stop. To me, the path Bruce and Alfred took was reasonable. Even more reasonable given the other options available. 1. Tell a person in authority, and then they can do nothing and the entire school hates you 2. Go to school everyday and get beat up and psychologically tortured by a group of bullies 3. Give up and be quiet and let some punk kids talk about your dead mother 4. Transfer to another school - perhaps reasonable, but if the Wayne's were big business figures he will face the same thing at another school 5. Ask the bully very nicely to please leave you alone
-
Yes, exactly. I'm not saying it as good as you, but yes, especially the part I highlighted.
-
Not easy, but I think it involves a different skill set. I've seen contestants say things like "ugh, I don't want dessert, I came here to cook!" I can tell if a cake it too dry or flavorless. I can also tell if a dish is too salty, but I can't give you the type of in depth analysis that the judges can on a savory dish. My feeling is that their analysis of a dessert is mostly as superficial as my analysis would be. She chose something that the judges couldn't give her an in-depth analysis of, as they do with savory dishes. Aaron didn't start out saying anything in front of the judges, Katie was the one who started talking in front of the judges about what Aaron said, and it looked to me, like she was hoping to gain brownie points because Aaron was just so very mean about her dessert. And its not like it was a slam dunk, Tom's praise seemed lukewarm, Hugh said it was boring. I attribute that strategy to Katie, instead of just letting her food talk for itself, she instead had to bring up some meaningless trash talking to try to bolster a boring dish. Personally, I don't think Tom has any appreciation for someone telling him anything about a personality conflict, and I could totally see him thinking its kind of a baby-ish move as adults should be able to deal with it on their own.
-
I think grown ass has something to do with it, because I believe that a grown up should have enough gravitas to stop someone from doing something on their own. If she thought she was being unfairly picked on, take him to task one adult to another adult. Doing it in front of the judges, to me, makes you look like you can't control a personality conflict on your own so you have to passive aggressively take it up in front of the judges. To me, Tom looked like he couldn't have given two shits about her carrying on. He had to say something because he had to say something. What Katie did was different because she presented the comment to the judges out of context. Since everyone was trash talking and the judges weren't there they couldn't see if there was or wasn't a situation where everyone was trash talking, instead she made it sound like Aaron was right in front of her berating her and only her, and no one else was doing anything. And that to me as well is a bitch move. But I think MV, and mostly because people hate Aaron.

LMAO, sympathetic ovary syndrome! -
Not just a pariah, but he could expect even more bullying about his dead mother. Just because you can do something doesn't make it a reasonable option, if his teachers were unable to do anything, and frankly there was nothing they could do but stand aside. You bring that kid into the office and ask him if he was talking shit, all he has to do is say he wasn't, how do you know otherwise, you gonna ask his little cronies? You think they are going to tell the truth? No, so then what can you do about a kid getting picked on about his dead mother. Nothing. Me eating nothing but astronaut ice cream for the rest of my life is also an option, but its not really a reasonable one. As is telling someone at the school who has no power to do anything. You can't kick a kid out of school for something you can't even prove he said, I would be surprised if you could even discipline a kid for something you can't prove he said. Parents of children at an exclusive prep school are generally a little more pushy than the average bear, they want their kids record spotless so they can go on to an exclusive high school and then an exclusive college, so you had better have your i dotted and your t's crossed before you come at their child with some discipline. But you can bet your bottom dollar, no matter what, that kid would go around telling everyone how Bruce snitched on him and then everyone at school hates him and picks on him for his dead mother.
-
The lady sitting it the Chair wasn't worthy, it brought the whole Chair down.
-
He tried ignoring the kid, and then the kid and three of the kid's cronies cornered Bruce and started talking even more shit about his dead mother. Snitching would have made the entire school his enemy. And what exactly is a principal going to do about a kid talking shit? Tell the kid to stop, and how well do you think thats going to work? Talk to his parents? So they can make excuses for their precious angel who would have never done anything like that! If a 12 year old boy can't throw fists for someone talking shit about his dead mother and asking if he saw her guts or not, then I think we've entered a world where nothing has become sacred. I think Bruce was absolutely pushed into that fight, I don't think the kid would have ever stopped his campaign of assholery otherwise.
-
damn, you gotta bring your own phone to this shit?

I haven't thought about percentages, but he isn't a bad looking man in the face, and he seems like a nice enough guy so yea, I don't have much against him. I realize he is using Danielle for a green card, but you know what, he is putting in the work with her crazy ass so I say give him the damn green card.
-
But how are the judges the right people? If anything, Tom at least has seemed put off when someone chooses to bring personality beefs up with the judges at judges table (or whenever they are judging) and it has made almost no difference in how he judges the food. I remember that when its been done in the past he has seemed to have more of a "get over it" attitude. What sort of advantage could she have hoped to gain other than looking like a passive aggressive tattle tale? I think for most of the judges its really all about the food, so whatever personality disputes you have don't really matter to them. Again, I have no problem with her taking him on, if she has felt picked on, but you're a grown woman, do it to his face, don't be sneaky and wait to do it The only other advantage she could have wanted to get was for the judges to chastise him, which to me, is also not a grown woman move. If I need for you to stop certain behavior, the force of me telling you to stop, is enough. I can handle it, I don't need anyone else to chastise you. To me, I don't think she has stood out in front of the judges in a good way. At least with Tom, I get the impression that he is pretty old school and complaining about how unfairly you're being picked on by someone doesn't impress him in the least. If she wants to stand out with the judges, she should stop her passive aggressive whining and cook something decent.
